Gibbs: We’re discussing health care in a way “that respects the dignity of each individual”

posted at 5:20 pm on August 7, 2009 by Allahpundit

Kudos for this one to the spin doctor in chief: The fact that he managed to get through it with a straight face after the week we’ve had, on the very day when The One told his opponents to shut up and get out of his way, is a sign of a true master PR flack at work. My only quibble with Tapper’s question and follow-up is that he wasn’t as comprehensive as he might have been. It was Pelosi who jump-started the Nazi meme with her idiotic comment about astroturfers carrying swastikas and it was lefty journo Bill Press who accused conservatives of following the Hitler playbook. And that only accounts for invective that explicitly invoked Nazism; if he broadened the question to more general accusations of racism against Republicans, he would have been there all day.

Exit question: By “taking the temperature down a bit,” does Gibbs mean having union goons stomp on people who are handing out flags?

You are a characature of yourself. Can you actualy engage in conversation or are these silly accusations and bomb throwing as close as you can get? Can you argue a position, respond with coherent points to the substance of any of the responses to directed to you?

Please, we’re dying for some real dialog here. Can’t you offer any?

Many commentators over the last year rolled their eyes at comparisons between the Democratic left and the Nazis (or other totalitarian regimes). Looks like the rubes were right again, eh?

Actually, the Nazis and Italians practiced corporatism. They would pick “winners” in particular industries, and then prevent competition.

Gee, which US administration in the past 50 years has basically “purchased” a large automobile manufacturer, among other things…

liberal:

You have to be getalife, there can not be two people this obtuse.

Nancy Pelosi started the whole NAZI thing. In fact there has been only one swastika at a rally and that one had a no slash across it.

But you know what? Pelosi is the Speaker of the House, she is supposed to represent the American people…Rush Limbaugh is a radio talk show host and a private citizen.

Now I know that liberals think they do not have to live by the same standards they cram down the throats of everyone else, but Pelosi is one of the most despised women in America and remarks like the Nazi one are the reason why.

She is not helping your cause, moron.

Now, surely there is a townhall meeting somewhere you can run off too and start a riot or something.

If you don’t like us, be welcome to leave. We here exchange ideas and, tho some aren’t what you might WANT to call idealogues, they choose to stay and we have discussions. That’s the difference between liberals and conservatives.

I don’t buy into the idea of a ‘big tent’–that’s fallacious. I don’t fit on DailyKos so I stay out of there. But I will go to a site considered ‘liberal’ if I’m able to enjoy an open exchange of political thought and opinion.

Many conservatives think liberals are stupid while the converse is true. Fair enough. But I have to ask which side tells people to shut up, maybe even be re-educated? Which side, since the 60s, has burned down college buildings to make a point? Which side has bombed public restrooms and kidnapped heiresses? Which side spit on returning soldiers while now claiming ‘support’ for our troops?

Which side bragged about throwing his medals over the White House fence but then later claimed those medals were someone else’s?

Which side has an actress who went to the capitol city of an enemy during time of conflict and came back to say our people were treated well, when those returning captives, to a man, told tales of torture? And which side believes the actress is the one speaking truth and more than 500 men are liars?

WE here are FAR from stupid. We have evidence to back our opinions. The other side has only innuendo and mere opinion to back their opinions. That side truly, sadly, and with dementia and cognitive dissonance, truly believes their opinions are fact–the more shrill they are, the more they believe they are right.

Which is of intelligence, which is of stupidity? Which is of reality, and who holds to fantasy?

Decide what you will.

Liam on August 7, 2009 at 5:58 PM

I love it when they say they want to have a discussion about where we want to go…The discussion is them telling us where they want to go. This has nothing to do with debate and everything to do with silencing dissent.

I wonder if it ever once occurred to the Democratic leadership that calling constituents “Nazis” and beating them up might cause credibility problems?

Django on August 7, 2009 at 6:00 PM

Hey liberals:

First they came for the bankers, and I did not speak out–
because I was not a banker;
Then they came for the babies, and I did not speak out–
because I was not a baby;
Then they came for the car companies, and I did not speak out–
because I was not a car company;
Then they came for the conservatives, and I did not speak out–
because I was not a conservative;
Then they came for the old, and I did not speak out–
because I was not old;
Then they came for me–
and there was no one left to speak out for me.

Learn your own history.

Before they came for any of them in Nazi Germany, they demonized them. They published article and put up posters about how the Jews were responsible for all of Germany’s problems. They told the people that it was an ORGANIZED effort to steal from the country.

When Cindy Sheehan protested, did Bush demonize her? No, he said it was her right.

When ACORN did sit ins in banks, astroturfed by your tax dollars, did Bush demonize them? No, he didn’t even fight their funding.

Now we’re supposed to believe that Republicans are the Nazis when it is the liberals who refuse to refute the arguments but instead demonize those who are expressing opposition?

Corporatism is its own big business.
Monopolies are big business.

Thus far, yes. I forget the old Greek tale of a man searching Athens with a lighted lamp looking for an honest man. Androgenes, was it?

I’m in Buffalo, and this place is loaded with dem-types. I’m an aberration; my son is amazed the most right-wing person he knows lives in the most openly-liberal part of town.

What I have found is that most people who call themselves liberal aren’t idealogues. Most times it’s hard to reach them, but they can be reached over time except for the hard-core types.

I have patience because I have to. I believe every Citizen should be armed, especially women. If abortion is a right that gov’t should pay for, so should be DC-provided firearms for every woman when she reaches age 18. RvWade isn’t in the Constitution but the Second Amendment IS. Give American women guns with Federally-paid weapons training, and watch the crime rate plummet. Date rape, a feminist bane? NEVER again.

Socialists aren’t cannibals unless one of their own slips a hair from their Party line. They then consume their own, like what happened to Joe Lieberman.

Die-hard libdems aren’t cannibals, I believe. They’re vermin like rats and vultures–roaming the world to consume what they can. Like Satan in the Bible.

Except liberals aren’t lions.

I am reading Orwell’s 1984 (online at http://www.george-orwell.org, and very scary, really!) and I found this excerpt apropos to the current climate:

The aims of these three groups are entirely irreconcilable. The aim of the High is to remain where they are. The aim of the Middle is to change places with the High. The aim of the Low, when they have an aim — for it is an abiding characteristic of the Low that they are too much crushed by drudgery to be more than intermittently conscious of anything outside their daily lives — is to abolish all distinctions and create a society in which all men shall be equal. Thus throughout history a struggle which is the same in its main outlines recurs over and over again. For long periods the High seem to be securely in power, but sooner or later there always comes a moment when they lose either their belief in themselves or their capacity to govern efficiently, or both. They are then overthrown by the Middle, who enlist the Low on their side by pretending to them that they are fighting for liberty and justice. As soon as they have reached their objective, the Middle thrust the Low back into their old position of servitude, and themselves become the High. Presently a new Middle group splits off from one of the other groups, or from both of them, and the struggle begins over again. Of the three groups, only the Low are never even temporarily successful in achieving their aims. It would be an exaggeration to say that throughout history there has been no progress of a material kind. Even today, in a period of decline, the average human being is physically better off than he was a few centuries ago. But no advance in wealth, no softening of manners, no reform or revolution has ever brought human equality a millimetre nearer. From the point of view of the Low, no historic change has ever meant much more than a change in the name of their masters.

And then came Obama.

Califemme on August 7, 2009 at 7:10 PM

I can very easily picture Robert Gibbs back in Middle School, wearing a “Kick Me!” sign on his back as he would make his way through the halls, while others would take advantage of the invitation by planting their shoe squarely into his chubby rear end and his only defense of sorts would be to turn around with tears in his eyes and scream “LEMME ALONE!!!”

Then naturally he would later get his ass kicked in the gym class locker room, followed by having whipped cream shoved into his face during lunch and again, his only reaction would be to scream “LEMME ALONE!!!”

Maybe someone should hold up a “Kick Me!” sign at his next propaganda briefing, just to see if he reacts.
