Who We Are

posted at 8:48 am on August 6, 2009 by Doctor Zero

There seems to be a bit of confusion among Democrats about the nature of the opposition to their plans. Maybe I can help clear things up, by telling them a few things about us.

We’re not paid minions of any corporate interest or lobby. Most bloggers working to stop the Obama health-care disaster are like me, writing when they can find the time, because we care about the future of our country. The same is true of the people showing up at town hall meetings, and organizing rallies. Some of us are well-dressed in tailored suits. Others wear jeans and T-shirts. Most of us are dressed in what we wore to work.

Our support for a massive government program does not increase when you tell us we’re not allowed to ask questions about it.

We’re not racists. We’re also not racialists. We don’t think a wise Latina is inherently more qualified to do anything than a wise Asian woman, a wise white woman, or a wise white man. We’re tired of being fed excuses for high government offices staffed by anything but the best people for the job. There are too many high government offices, so we’d like some of Obama’s absurdly incompetent appointees to take their titles with them when they leave. We remember what it was like when we got rid of the Clinton mob, so we’ll be conducting inventories on the contents of those vacated offices, before we turn out the lights and pour cement in the locks.

We don’t like having to fight desperate battles to save our freedom and future from socialist politicians every ten or twenty years. We don’t like having our time wasted with trillion-dollar statist fantasies, when our government is already trillions of dollars in the red. We’re tired of checking the papers each day, to see which group of us has been targeted as enemies of the State. We’re growing impatient waiting for the Democrats to come up with ideas that don’t require their supporters to hate someone. We’ve had our fill of “progressives” who act as if we’re living in 1909, and none of their diseased policies have ever been tried before.

We believe government should be punished for failing to live up to the expectations of its citizens, not the other way around. We don’t think people who destroy thousands of jobs and billions of dollars in market value should get a pass because they meant well. We’ve had enough of dodging a massive State that wants to organize, subsidize, penalize, and divide us. We refuse to pay tithe to a religion we don’t support, including the official State religion of global warming. We demand honesty, humility, and transparency from our public servants, no matter how many elections they’ve won. We won’t settle for making the only important decisions about our futures in the voting booth, once every couple of years.

We don’t blame people for showing up to grab their share of a government handout. We blame the people who stole the money from the rest of us, and put it on the table for them. We don’t think respect for private property ends at a certain income level, or that only some people should be applauded for doing their best to get ahead in life. We believe in the power and righteousness of capitalism, the exchange of goods and services between free people acting in their own best interests. There is no moral substitute for it. Every other scheme for governing human affairs amounts to a few dominating some, to the applause of others. Our freedom is not for sale, and we reserve the right to defend it from theft.

We don’t invest our hopes in the government. It is beneath the dignity of free men and women to spend their days hoping a politician decides to provide for our needs. We face the future, not with passive and helpless “hope”, but with active and dynamic faith in ourselves, and our fellow Americans. We are opposed to a political class that tries to cultivate our hopes by showering us with fear. We don’t trust politicians with our fortunes, much less with our lives. In fact, we don’t trust politicians much at all… but we absolutely require them to trust us.

We do not regard America as the sole country on Earth that should be forbidden from taking pride in its history, traditions, and achievements. We reject the notion that celebrating our traditions is an automatic insult to anyone else. We owe absolutely no apologies to murderous dictators or unelected tyrants, and we care little for their feelings. We believe there are many lessons to be learned from our history, by all the people of the world, and we cannot teach those lessons if we allow ourselves to be shamed into silence. We will never hesitate to call evil by its proper name, or give evil men good reasons to fear us.

Now, if you’ll excuse us, we have a lot of work to do. There’s an election coming up next year.

For those of us angry about the direction of the nation, the utter evil of this administration and the corrupt officials running it, and heartbroken that this once great nation has fallen into the hands of socialists….

I say get out there and fight for change in 2010. Do it now. Victory is only going to come through leaving no Congressional race unchallenged. Grassroots activism will turn the tide and perhaps even send some of the “safe” politicians home.

Obama and Dems are falling in polls
Obama and Dems are losing independents and centrists (people who are not partisan and do not take marching orders or follow a party blindly)
Obama and Dems response is to attack that which makes those people unique by describing them as NAZIs, as Republican plants/operatives, as professional protesters (irony alert), as mindless lemmings or zombies, as thugs, as tools, and to call upon the American people to literally turn you in to the White House if you oppose Healthcare reform efforts by having the audacity to read the bills or ask a question.

Brilliant.

The sheer hatred for average Americans by elected democrats and their left wing allies is the most galling aspect of the distorted worldview they live with.

rob verdi on August 6, 2009 at 8:54 AM

I’d disagree. The most galling aspect is the way the political class doesn’t even put up a pretense that they’ve read the legislation they vote for. Something like nationalizing healthcare personally effects every single American and yet you have legislators up there proudly defending the fact that they don’t have time to read the bill?

That shows more than hatred for average Americans, it shows a complete disassociation between the political class and the rest of us. They live in their happy little insulated world where all the “mean” e-mails and phone calls get filtered out so they can concentrate on the very serious business of raising cash for their next election. It’s time they come down from their lofty position on Capitol Hill and live with the rest of us. That voters are attending town halls better informed than their elected representatives shows us that change is needed and needed now. Let’s see if Barney Frank or Barbara Boxer can live without all the perqs of office. Let’s see how Pelosi likes flying business class. Let’s even see how an arrogant racist street thug from Chicago handles life after the glare of the media spotlight isn’t so bright.

Liberalism is a mental disorder. The obvious attack on those that the liberals consider as inferior to the point that any dissent is not acceptable. Liberals must divide the people in order to keep their feelings of superiority at the level where they maintain the control that they are “entitled” to.

jeanneb on August 6, 2009 at 9:18 AM

Superbly written, and you nail it to the core, Doc. Thanks for verbalizing so well what so many of us want to be screaming from the mountain tops.

The problem is that the Libs/Progs/Dems are relentless in their pursuit of power, and they really don’t care what we think or feel. They’re convinced they have some ill-perceived moral high ground, and therefore know better than we know ourselves what’s in our best interest.

But your brilliant essay should be passed around via e-mail to everyone in my e-mail address book, and hopefully if enough of us do it this masterpiece will go viral. I still firmly believe that we Conservatives are the great “Silent Majority” so infamously spoken of at every election, and too many simply haven’t had time in their busy lives to pay attention to politics and government.

The time has come, though, to get their attention and get them involved, before we lose the very country where we’ve had the freedom to do just that, go about our busy lives without worrying about someone changing the dynamics and destroying our freedoms.

KendraWilder on August 6, 2009 at 9:21 AM

I’m going to another town hall meeting here in St. Louis tonight where Russ Carnahan will speak about the “elderly” and ObamaCare. I’ll be there, with prepared questions, referenced to specific pages of the House bill.

We have been reminded, in a comment by Major Garret, in an after-the-show internet remark: It is the White House strategy to get the so-called “mob” to stray off message by attacking the mob specifically. The goal is to change the story from specifics about health care to the behavior of the so-called mobs.

That’s a tactic straight from Saul Alinsky. Keep focused. Keep rattling their cage, but remember to keep the main thing the main thing.

Seriously, the political class still doesn’t clearly understand the true anger in America right now. Even after Congressmen are all but weeping at meetings that were supposed to be nice little get togethers where people can express concern about social security or getting federal money for a new park, they soldier on as if nothing is amiss. They call the exercise of free speech “mob-like” behavior both to distract and also to try and make themselves into some sort of victim.

This is the reason why the filthy liar in the White House wanted raiding healthcare to be a done deal by August recess. The real question is if Schumer is right that the Dems will push through the plan by a process that doesn’t require a 60 vote majority. If the political class think they are seeing anger now, I dare Schumer to try this tactic.

OT, but since you brough it up:

http://pajamasmedia.com/ejectejecteject/2009/05/19/the-truth-about-the-atomic-bombs-print-version/

Leaflet dropped on 33 Japanese cities by US Army Air Force

“Read this carefully as it may save your life or the life of a relative or friend. In the next few days, some or all of the cities named on the reverse side will be destroyed by American bombs. These cities contain military installations and workshops or factories which produce military goods. We are determined to destroy all of the tools of the military clique which they are using to prolong this useless war. But, unfortunately, bombs have no eyes. So, in accordance with America’s humanitarian policies, the American Air Force, which does not wish to injure innocent people, now gives you warning to evacuate the cities named and save your lives. America is not fighting the Japanese people but is fighting the military clique which has enslaved the Japanese people. The peace which America will bring will free the people from the oppression of the military clique and mean the emergence of a new and better Japan. You can restore peace by demanding new and good leaders who will end the war. We cannot promise that only these cities will be among those attacked but some or all of them will be, so heed this warning and evacuate these cities immediately.”

Maybe oday Obooba will apologize for bombing Hiroshima. He will fail to mention that we risked our own lives and assets to warn the potential civilian victims.

Ed/Allah, you should do a Hiroshima thread!

KWAAANG!–Great hit Doctor Zero. I hope you will keep up the good work socking it to the enemies of our freedom.
***
I attended my first political rally in 1948 at age 7–saw President Harry Truman in his railway campaign stop with my Dad–both a few of the few good democrats. Then I saw Adlai Stevenson in 1952.
***
Then a hiatus of many years–the April 15 tax protest TEAPARTY in El Paso, TX. and the protest in Las Cruces, NM. in July. The interesting thing is that the crowds looked like the ones I saw long ago–average decent Americans–no kooks–they looked a lot like this 68 year old American.

I’m going to send this my state’s congressional representation. Joe Lieberman might get 10% of it, but I know it’s completely over Chris Dodd’s head.

It’s official, Doctor Zero is a racist. Why don’t you want our historic first Black president to succeed? Hmmmm???

Also, FLAGed. Sorry, but you seem fishy.

Then, when it comes to our fishy comments here, please remember our motto:

I hear nothing, I see nothing, I know nothing!

The tide is turning.

rockmom on August 6, 2009 at 9:52 AM

Turning but not yet turned. This is a signature issue for the administration and Democrat party. They need something that they can call “reform” in order to save face. They are the ones who made this a “crisis” issue that had to be solved before the August recess because so many were suffering. We need to be vigilent but there definitely is hope that the filthy liar in the White House has been thwarted for the time being.

Too depressing. All that effort, lives lost…. just so a racist street thug from Chicago can destroy America within a year of taking office.
