White House to Dems on town halls: “If you get hit, we will punch back twice as hard”

Let me remind you again: They can pass any bill they want any time they want. Conservatives can scream their heads off at these things and there’s not an ounce of good it’ll do if Democrats are united. This whole partisan “war” Obama and Axelrod have concocted is kabuki theater against an enemy they’ve already (momentarily) defeated; it’s the Blue Dogs’ fear that they’ll be thrown out of office if they vote for this travesty that’s put the left in the predicament they’re in. The cowardice they’re showing in not wanting to face their constituents is actually obscuring the deeper cowardice of the the party stalling on a landmark bill they finally have the numbers to pass for no better reason than that doing so will jeopardize their hold on power next year. They want ObamaCare and they want their permanent majority, and if the only way they can get both is by calling conservatives Nazis then that’s what they’re a-gonna do.
Top White House aides gave Senate Democrats a recess battle plan on Thursday, arming the lawmakers with tips for avoiding disastrous town hall meetings while showing them polling on popular aspects of the reform effort…
They showed video clips of the confrontational town halls that have dominated the media coverage, and told senators to do more prep work than usual for their public meetings by making sure their own supporters turn out, senators and aides said.
And they screened TV ads and reviewed the various campaigns by critics of the Democratic plan.
“If you get hit, we will punch back twice as hard,” Messina said, according to an official who attended the meeting…
“They are just helping us understand the fringe that is trying to mess up our meetings,” said Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.).
What does Reid mean by “fringe”? It’s come to this:
Instead of appearing in person, where “extremists” would have “the chance to shout and make YouTube videos,” Baird said Wednesday, he’s holding what he calls “telephone town halls” instead.
Baird said he’s using the new system because he fears his political opponents may be planning “an ambush” to disrupt his meetings, using methods Baird compared to Nazism.
“What we’re seeing right now is close to Brown Shirt tactics,” Baird, D-Vancouver, said in a phone interview. “I mean that very seriously.”…
Pam Benson of Larch Mountain, 62, said she realizes Baird disagrees with her on health care reform…
“He’s supposed to be our representative,” said Benson, a purchasing manager for Portland Cascade Architecture and Engineering in Portland. “He’s supposed to listen to us, whether he’s on our side or not.”…
“We are not nut cases that disagree with this issue,” she said. “There are a lot of very well-informed people that are against this health care thing.”
Luckily she won’t have a chance to face down Baird and then be “punched back twice as hard.” Exit quotation: “Despite the legitimacy of the public’s concern, demonizing democracy has become pretty common these days for the left… By dismissing the anger of conservatives, moderates, libertarians, conservative democrats and independents the administration looks out of touch and appallingly arrogant. In fact, it will hurt them even more because Obama promised to listen to the concerns of the citizens, not operate with a tin ear.”

I would expect sane people from either party to denounce what’s going on regardless of who’s president and which party is in power.

The brown shirts were tasked with preventing any opposition to their political ideas from being expressed in meetings and press. The Democrats are actively trying to prevent any opposition to their political ideas from being expressed at meetings and press. Who are the “brown shirts” ? How are the people who go to the meetings anything like the brown shirts? They are not there preventing a political discussion. They are asking for one with honest answers and discussions. What they are finding is a one sided discussion that has nothing to do with their concerns, and they are angry, and rightfully so. In democratic discussions both sides are considered. In socialistic discussions, only the ruling side needs to be discussed so that the people will understand what is expected of them. In this case it is more important than anything thing else the Obama administration has to do; more important than the economy, the national debt, the crippling of our industry, or what it purports to be; nationalized one payer, one provider health care. What is at stake is the New Party Democratic goal of establishing the foundation for socialism.

And by the way, if Bush had used this kind of language to describe citizens who did not support his policies, these same hypocrites would have been demanding impeachment and public apologies.

From my opinion Our Community Organizer in Chief is more divisive than anyone ever anticipated. Consider a short examination of academia. Recently, a kid from Oregon noted that only 1-2 professors out of 100+ were Republicans. Those same statistics were echoed by emailers from various universities all over the country to The Factor, with Oreilly.
Why is this? It is because over and over again–in urban areas, in academia, in the media and now in government–the statist liberal left has pushed and pushed to create an increasingly hostile and inhospitable environment for people like you and me. It’s discriminatory, it’s unAmerican.
The question is, where do we go once America looks like Berkeley, like Cambridge, like DC, and Chicago?
The answer is nowhere, we no longer surrender ground. We have to see the battlefield differently. We have to win at every level. Local government, media, academia, public education and elsewhere. It shall be only then, when they are defeated in the arena of ideas, that we will, once again, reclaim this country of our Founders. My friends, this is the calling of our time–for this has been a gathering storm and the lines are being drawn.
Develop your ideas, develop your voice, use a strong voice of rhetoric and persuasion–for those are the most powerful weapons in this fight.

It’s unfortunate that the townhall protests have gotten so far out of hand. This could have been an easy deal for the conservatives. The fact is that Congress knows pretty much where their own constituents stand. People e-mail, call, etc., in opinions. District organizers pass along the “word,” so to speak.
Turning it into angry mobs DOES make it appear to be out the fringe elements rather than about a very tough call for even some of the Dem congressmen. How will they vote? What price will have to be paid to vote with reform?
I agree. The theatrical aspects now make this easier. It may even provide cover for some Dem moderates to back reform.

I was looking at it as a “push through my agenda fast and no one will notice my Socialist agenda” scenario. After this last episode of inciting Americans to attack other Americans, I can see the following around the corner, Curfews, Rationing, Re-education camps. Entire communities being deprived of utilities and supplies until they “Toe the line” Health care and medication for followers first and the rest gets the leftovers (For a Price$$$) mandatory sterilization for non-believers.
You will see headlines from CNN and MSNBC that states unemployment has been cut by 50%. What you will not see is that the non believers will not be included in the calculations. They will not be “Employable” and so there fore are excluded. Social reform will continue, If you work you are entitled to Food, Medicine, clothing. Housing will be available for the believers. The non believers will have their homes condemned and destroyed. The Constitution will be re-written as the administration sees fit. The Judiciary will be the first to go to be replaced by executive office Tribunals.
The only ammunition manufactured will be for the government’s use. Guns and Ammunition will be illegal for the citizenry and possession of such will be grounds for immediate execution.
Then we will wake up and find out all is well, it will take a while before anyone notices the Hammer and Sickle in the space where we used to have 50 stars.

I believe that if Congress passes the health care bill, bills, or any kind of hybrid formulated in conference, then the republic is at risk. As soon as this nation started taking from one group of people and giving their earnings to others, then it was put on course for rebellion. I’ll not draw any lame parallels to history because I don’t know if there are any others.
What worries me is that the division within the republic will not be as easily definable as it was in our misnamed Civil War, which was a regional dispute. The potential divide in the United States at this time is ill-defined and completely ideological.
It could be ugly.
I have no desire to live in a socialist state, and the left can cry all they want about how their progressives and not socialists. They can deny the truth, but they are truly socialists.
Being a Southerner I’m not entirely uncomfortable with secession, but that accomplishes nothing. It’s not regional.
I’ll watch the vote in Congress very closely. I don’t have to protest my Congressman, he is vehemently opposed to socialized medicine or any kind of government takeover of health insurance or medical treatment.
He better vote against it in any form it may take.
Conservatives better be ready for incrementalism when these cowards return to Washington.

My representative, Dennis Kucinich, had a radio town hall. After listening to it for about an hour, I wondered who was my actual representative, him or his wife.
He often would take a call, then respond without letting the person comment on what he said. To his credit a few times he got into a good debate with a few opposing callers.
I couldn’t believe it when his wife said that if she had the choice between the healthcare that a Congressman and his family gets and the UK healthcare, she’d take the UK. Ridiculous.

Ask her the same question once she gets sick or injured and need it. People don’t make decisions about health care until they really have to–on the margin. Some guy called in and gave her an example of his grandfather who needed an MRI and he didn’t get it for months and all they did was prescribe pain medication. As opposed to his parents who got one within one or two days here. Her response was “All systems have faults.”

I heard a Democrat (not sure who) (Senator or Congress person) complain last night about the evil insurance companies earning 80 billion dollars. Lets see health care industry is 17 percent of the economy, so liberal democrats think that a 3 percent profit margin is too much? That is what 80 billion is out of a 2.5 trillion dollar business.
