White House to Dems on town halls: “If you get hit, we will punch back twice as hard”
posted at 6:39 pm on August 6, 2009 by Allahpundit
Let me remind you again: They can pass any bill they want any time they want. Conservatives can scream their heads off at these things and there’s not an ounce of good it’ll do if Democrats are united. This whole partisan “war” Obama and Axelrod have concocted is kabuki theater against an enemy they’ve already (momentarily) defeated; it’s the Blue Dogs’ fear that they’ll be thrown out of office if they vote for this travesty that’s put the left in the predicament they’re in. The cowardice they’re showing in not wanting to face their constituents is actually obscuring the deeper cowardice of the the party stalling on a landmark bill they finally have the numbers to pass for no better reason than that doing so will jeopardize their hold on power next year. They want ObamaCare and they want their permanent majority, and if the only way they can get both is by calling conservatives Nazis then that’s what they’re a-gonna do.
Top White House aides gave Senate Democrats a recess battle plan on Thursday, arming the lawmakers with tips for avoiding disastrous town hall meetings while showing them polling on popular aspects of the reform effort…
They showed video clips of the confrontational town halls that have dominated the media coverage, and told senators to do more prep work than usual for their public meetings by making sure their own supporters turn out, senators and aides said.
And they screened TV ads and reviewed the various campaigns by critics of the Democratic plan.
“If you get hit, we will punch back twice as hard,” Messina said, according to an official who attended the meeting…
“They are just helping us understand the fringe that is trying to mess up our meetings,” said Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.).
What does Reid mean by “fringe”? It’s come to this:
Instead of appearing in person, where “extremists” would have “the chance to shout and make YouTube videos,” Baird said Wednesday, he’s holding what he calls “telephone town halls” instead.
Baird said he’s using the new system because he fears his political opponents may be planning “an ambush” to disrupt his meetings, using methods Baird compared to Nazism.
“What we’re seeing right now is close to Brown Shirt tactics,” Baird, D-Vancouver, said in a phone interview. “I mean that very seriously.”…
Pam Benson of Larch Mountain, 62, said she realizes Baird disagrees with her on health care reform…
“He’s supposed to be our representative,” said Benson, a purchasing manager for Portland Cascade Architecture and Engineering in Portland. “He’s supposed to listen to us, whether he’s on our side or not.”…
“We are not nut cases that disagree with this issue,” she said. “There are a lot of very well-informed people that are against this health care thing.”
Luckily she won’t have a chance to face down Baird and then be “punched back twice as hard.” Exit quotation: “Despite the legitimacy of the public’s concern, demonizing democracy has become pretty common these days for the left… By dismissing the anger of conservatives, moderates, libertarians, conservative democrats and independents the administration looks out of touch and appallingly arrogant. In fact, it will hurt them even more because Obama promised to listen to the concerns of the citizens, not operate with a tin ear.”

The only thing more powerful than the incompetence of the GOP is the corruption and incompetence of the Democrats.
This is the response of teh bestes politician evahh!!!!!?
It’s astonishing how the Obama administrations actions of late show an obvious and utter abandonment of all the principles he espoused on the campaign trail of post partisanship and his abilities as a leader. I didn’t buy it when he said it then but even those he did fool can’t help but see him for who he really is now…even the media is starting to question him on it. Of course if Bush had said and done the same things it would be the topic of conversation 24/7. Fortunately we have idiot Democrats to bring it up in press conferences who show their naked contempt for the voters who won’t fall in line.

Another cowardly member of congress who is willing to play the nazi/scare tactic card to divide his constituents against each other.
We were taught by the Obama lapdog media that Barack was the candidate of unity and “a different type of politics” and was going to change all of this? Silly those who bought the hype…I mean hope that a guy who has never lead anything except a legal rag could truly unify and change, when it’s never been something he’s about.

I think one of the best things he can do for us is to keep talking.
I remember the night of the last debate. I was watching it with my 10-year-old on the HA chat room. O was talking and all of a sudden, the screen filled up with “Lie.” “Lie.” “That’s a LIE!” “He’s lying!” My 10-year-old freaked out, wondering why they were saying he was lying. I told her that he was saying he was not for abortion but he had voted not to restrict even really horrible abortion practices (putting babies in closets to die). She said, “Well, how do all these people know that?” I told her that, “They have been paying attention and reading more than just what the news on TV tells them, so they know that what he’s saying isn’t true.” She then said, “Well, he lies really good because I couldn’t even tell.” (Now she just says, “Let me guess, he’s lying again.”)
I have replayed that conversation and that moment over and over since then. It is as true now as it was then. Obama tells the people in front of them what they want to hear, believing that they have never heard him say anything contradictory and will never check it out.
People are now getting wise to that little game. They, like my 10-year-old, are asking, “How can he lie so easily when I know that’s not the truth?”
The best thing he can do is keep talking because the more he does, the more he shows people what he really is. And believe it or not, people do NOT like to be lied to… even my 10-year-old knows that.

… and that outrage is recorded and posted on YouTube for the viewing pleasure of millions of people… and then shown endlessly on Fox News…
… If they ever dare to do that and the American people watch… The Democrats’ goose is cooked, and Obama becomes a one-termer. And no charming words coming from that snake are going to bring him back to Americans’ good graces.
Mark my words.

whatever the future brings all any of us can do is be true to our core beliefs. I was told once a long long time ago that all a person has in this world that truly has value is their honor and their beliefs. hundreds of thousands of our fellow citizens gave their lives on battlefields foreign and domestic so that we each could express our beliefs. No one not even the government can deny us that right unless we allow it. Is there a price to pay, yes but I choose to pay any price to stay true to myself. So if someone one wants to punch me all I can do is steal a line from The Rock and say “Just Bring It”

My wife just returned from a visit with a friend of hers, a kind, frail, little 79-year old lady who is an avowed democrat from the old school. Never mind that today’s democrat party is nothing like the party she remembers; she still votes democrat, always has, and reveres anyone with a “D” after their name.
My wife has been really frustrated with her and her support of of Zer0 since the election. Just last week this lady insisted that even with 0′s health plan, she would be able to keep her “very good” individual plan she’s had forever (and uses a lot), so she wasn’t worried in the least bit.
Today, my wife tells me this lady has decided that the current inhabitant of the Oval Office is not the person she voted for, and that she would take back the vote if she could. I hesitate to assume too much, but this lady is having buyer’s remorse, after her intense support for 0 and all the dems she’s voted for all these years. Could this be some evidence of an even greater awakening of the public than we’ve dared to hope for? I don’t know, but it might mean we’re in for some really entertaining times ahead.
I hope so.
