Video: The gun giveaway truck promotion
posted at 8:05 am on August 6, 2009 by Ed Morrissey
I first heard the audio in this clip when I was on Hugh Hewitt’s show yesterday, but I didn’t see the video until later in the evening. The obvious discomfort of the CNN host here will make viewers laugh. Mark Muller has no reservations defending his sales promotion that gives away a voucher for an AK-47 with every new pickup truck sold. Instead of defending himself, Muller pushes back against the questioning, using the home-invasion murder of a husband and wife to explain that people need to consider self-defense rather than wait for someone else to rescue them. Muller’s motto seems to get the reporter the most flustered:
Hosts should make sure they have the motto correct before attempting to criticize it, especially to act offended at the juxtaposition of “God” and “guns”. She trots out a weak version of “What would Jesus do?” in an attempt to embarrass Muller, but instead Muller points out that (a) there were no guns in Jesus’ time, and (b) He wouldn’t need one anyway. Muller also exposes his opponent as a rube on religion by quoting Luke 22:36: [Jesus] said to them, “But now if you have a purse, take it, and also a bag; and if you don’t have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one.["]
Perhaps it’s not such a surprise that Muller could dissect CNN’s interviewer so handily. It turns out that Muller is the older brother of radio personality Mancow, a fact that Hugh discovered in his interview of the car dealer. Be sure to listen to the podcast. My part of the show can be heard in this podcast.

Is AK47 that cheap?
sram on August 6, 2009 at 8:10 AM
This is your Lefty Infobabe conducting a slow motion
ambush at attempting tp portray the auto dealer, his
friends and customers as wacko’s,extremists if you will!!
Americans have the right to bear arms, period!!
canopfor on August 6, 2009 at 8:11 AM
Depends on how you define cheap? How cheap is your life?
doriangrey on August 6, 2009 at 8:13 AM
Not to mention the right to arm bears… :P
doriangrey on August 6, 2009 at 8:14 AM
Right now I don’t think there are any cheap guns.

Wow, guns, crappy cars, Jesus AND being afeared of home invasions all in one segment! All that was missing was a Kenyan birth certificate and Sarah Palin!
simplesimon on August 6, 2009 at 8:14 AM
Depends on what brand of AK. If it’s Chinese then the deal isn’t so hot, Russian or Bulgarian you’re looking at 500-600 bucks.
Bishop on August 6, 2009 at 8:14 AM
This lady is clearly a troll

They can be. Depends all on which country the parts came from. What Bishop said.
blatantblue on August 6, 2009 at 8:15 AM
I’d take the free AK and re-sell it to put money towards a new AR.
blatantblue on August 6, 2009 at 8:16 AM
I saw this a couple weeks ago. This guy does a good job sticking up for himself and giving a good reason why people around his area of MO should be armed.
The right to bear arms is a right that will not be infringed.
Smear it all you want lefties, a gun is an inanimate object, just like a pencil. We don’t denigrate pencils when handwriting is bad. Similarly, we don’t denigrate guns when people use them wrongly. You’ve been more protected by a gun than you’ve been threatened. That’s a fact.
Facts are stubborn things.

Per the FBI, less than 2% of all homicides are done w assault rifles, and more than half of all homicides are done w illegal guns. This guy is allowing people to get legal assault rifles which account for less than 1% of all homicides. Why is she giving him a hard time? More people get killed by kitchen knives and baseball bats than by legal assault rifles.

That guy is in an area of Missouri that is surrounded by Mark Twain National Park which is notorious for meth labs. The cops can’t be everywhere and they are outnumbered.
I’m going to have to go visit this guy. He’s about 90 miles or less from me and I would buy a truck from him not just for the AK47 but to support his business. I need another vehicle anyway.
Vince on August 6, 2009 at 8:25 AM
Should be “Mark Twain National Forest“
Vince on August 6, 2009 at 8:26 AM
AK’s are crap, but they’re cheap and ammo’s relatively available these days. I’d rather have an AR.
NickelAndDime on August 6, 2009 at 8:26 AM
I agree with the car dealer
Where I live, cops will take a while to get here. My town is pretty safe, but what happens when a Category four or five comes and cuts us off from the rest of long island? What if we can’t get help for days, and some trouble makers decided to take advantage of the situation? What if a nuke get’s lit off in NYC, and immediately turns my area into chaos?
what happens if some criminals attack the car dealer on his huge property? he’s gonna ask nicely?

Frankly, we’ve gotten to the point in my family where we buy more of them, and more ammunition just to SPITE the lefties.

Ed Rendel was on the talk show circuit yesterday discussing that gym shooting that happened in his state. He admitted that there was nothing illegal about the way the shooter got the guns but then launched into this whole diatribe about further limiting the Second Amendment by proscribing the number and types of guns a citizen can buy.

Man, i wish i lived in Missouri… hopefully some enterprising dealer in the DFW area saw this and takes it up.
AK47 knock offs tend to be cheaper then their AR15 counterparts, sometimes by half.
I saw some of these at a gun show a few months back and $450-500 was fairly accurate.
The AR-15′s tend to get a little more romanticized because they look like what our are forces use, plus the AK’s are generally made overseas if i understand it correctly.

Wow, nice multi-layered hit piece attempt, reporter lady.
I’ve traveled all over this great country for business, spending extended periods with local folks all over. What amazes me the most is when I’m back home in the northeast. There are way too many people running around that want to impose their daily reality, their culture on people in other parts of the country where it simply wouldn’t translate.
That is the inherent problem with expanded federal government power, one size does not fit all in America.
My favorite example, I’m fond of telling friends that down in New Mexico where I worked, virtually everybody I worked with carried a 3-4 inch folding knife. Wallet, keys, watch, knife. People here in MA stare at me, frightened I imagine.

This about says it all Lox. I might add that the first and second amendments have never been closer to being under assault in our lifetimes. Where’s the civil rights advocates–or the pathetic ACLU—when YOUR government, (straight from the WHITEHOUSE) creates a collection center, flag@whitehouse.GOV, for any dissent or redress of YOUR government??? This country’s gone completely insane! Muller should be selling armored cars and bazookas if this keeps up.

The closest I have ever come to a gun was if a cop passed me on the sidewalk. I know nothing about them but there is no better place to get an education in fire arms than Hot Air! I love reading these threads.
As painful as it was to watch that silly woman try to conduct that interview, Mr. Muller made a compelling argument in less than five minutes why homeowners would be best served to arm themselves and protect their family and property. CNN fails at reporting and now they are even failing at criticism.

I tell intelligent people this: “Educate yourself.” You don’t have to embrace ownership, but fear and ignorance go hand-in-hand (not an insult).
You’d be surprised how much fun it can be to shoot and learn something new. And let’s say that, you need to pick up a gun…whether wrestling it away from an intruder, or even finding one somewhere it shouldn’t be and you need to secure it. Wouldn’t you want to know how?

I got a stainless steel Bauer 25 which looks identical to your Phoenix one. Mine is engraved with lots of scroll work so I removed the barrel and have it displayed on my wall. I believe both are copies of the Baby Browning .25 auto. I understand that the Browning was a fine handgun but my Bauer is a real piece of crap. It’s hard to hit something 10 ft away and that’s if it manages to fire. Thankfully it was given to me so I didn’t waste any money on it except for one box of ammo that I only used 15 or so rounds of.

I’m going to go out on a limb here and kind of defend her. I don’t think her heart was in it because as she said she grew up with guns. If that is true then she has first hand knowledge of firearms and most likely has handled them. She also acknowledged Jesus as God and I believe a belief in God. So she was doing her job and reading the questions from a paper and that was all. She didn’t push much not because she was being out classed but because she agreed with the guy.
Well that’s my opinion anyway. As a disclaimer I admit to never having seen this woman or guy before so I may just be full of it but hey, that’s why my eyes are brown.

As for me, the little bitch will be introduced to a sweet 9MM Tec-9, fully automatic, and they’ll be carrying him out the door with the 6 or 7 rounds that entered his chest in a blink of an eye.
Then I’ll put on some coffee, find some rags, and clean up the mess. Oh, and I’ll reload, of course.
TXUS on August 6, 2009 at 9:40 AM
Hope you do take one of your friends up on the offer. It will be intimidating at first, take it slow. Handle the gun with no ammo in it to attempt get a measure of comfort with it (to a degree, you must always respect firearms), and know the the core gun rules, you’ll be fine.
Oh, and have fun.
