Quote of the day

posted at 10:40 pm on August 6, 2009 by Allahpundit

“Thomas Jefferson, that revolutionary patriot who advocated rebellion every 20 years or so in order to remind the government that a spirit of resistance flourished among the people, must be turning over in his grave.

After all, the people who fomented the American Revolution did so using the same tactics as those protesting Obama’s health care plan and the nation’s mounting debt. They spoke out at rallies, distributed critical pamphlets, wrote scathing editorials and took to the streets in protest. They were rebelling against a government they saw as being excessive in its taxation and spending. For their efforts, they, too, were demonized and painted as an angry mob, extremists akin to terrorists, by the ruler of the day, King George III.

It’s a sad statement on the political bias of many within the civil liberties arena that few outside conservative circles have spoken out against these overt attempts to quell constitutionally protected speech. Had it been George Bush attempting something similar, the outcry among liberals would have been tremendous…

This is democracy in action, and it’s about time.”

I dunno about shooting govt officials on my front porch for demanding XYZ. Should I send the wife and kids to her mother’s first?

Younger adults – This movement is going to take people like blantantblue and FontanaConservative to lead the way. It takes a lot of guts to go to college and everyone else attending and teaching are Liberals.

You are quite correct.

Its no picnic for those of us conservatives that work at a university, either. There is a double standard. There was (and is still) pro-0bama signage up in faculty and staff office, but I had to take my McCain/Palin postcard size sign down from by bulletin board (it is not visible from the outside) in my private office because a flaming liberal professor who came in my office to ask a computer question saw it and complained. There are still faculty members that have stuff that compares Ashcroft to a fascist still plastered on the outside of their doors.

My husband and I are friends to a Republican college professor who is afraid to tell his fellow professors which party he belongs to, because of the pressure. When primary and election time roll around, Liberal professors blanket their yards with Democrat signs and make sure people know who they are for.

When I was in college, Vietnam was over and we didn’t have the pressure that you do now. You, like blatantblue and FontanaConservative are my heros!! All three of you are very brave.
