Quote of the day

posted at 10:40 pm on August 6, 2009 by Allahpundit

“Thomas Jefferson, that revolutionary patriot who advocated rebellion every 20 years or so in order to remind the government that a spirit of resistance flourished among the people, must be turning over in his grave.

After all, the people who fomented the American Revolution did so using the same tactics as those protesting Obama’s health care plan and the nation’s mounting debt. They spoke out at rallies, distributed critical pamphlets, wrote scathing editorials and took to the streets in protest. They were rebelling against a government they saw as being excessive in its taxation and spending. For their efforts, they, too, were demonized and painted as an angry mob, extremists akin to terrorists, by the ruler of the day, King George III.

It’s a sad statement on the political bias of many within the civil liberties arena that few outside conservative circles have spoken out against these overt attempts to quell constitutionally protected speech. Had it been George Bush attempting something similar, the outcry among liberals would have been tremendous…

This is democracy in action, and it’s about time.”

I’m not such a big Palin fan, as a leader, but she directly addressed this basic issue as one of the main points in both of her last two speeches. People didn’t really understand her resignation announcement, but she was very clear about her issues and pointed out federal encroachment on the states to be of primary concern. Then she did the same in her last speech. Forgetting style, those two speeches had a lot of meat to them. I liked them both, content-wise.

I’m sure she’ll have more to say about the specifics, but she’s already been out ahead on this, to my thinking.

Actually, this is exactly the sort of thing on which Sarah could really shine. I can understand if she is keeping a low profile while she develops her wonk-fu on foreign affairs. But on matters of fiscal conservatism, individual liberty, and limited government, she is truly in her element.

Plus, the inevitable ridicule she would endure from the Left would get the attention of those who support these protests, but may not have escaped the stain of the anti-Sarah Kool-aid themselves. I can’t help but think that speaking out about this would ultimately raise her stock.

I hereby urge the president to bestow a party favor on the nation that elected him: a verifying look at the original “long-form” version of his birth certificate.

It’s important to grasp the weird fact that this simple request, requiring nothing more than a nod of the presidential head, ranks as fightin’ words to American journalists. Right wing, left wing, these ladies and gentlemen of the Fourth Estate seem to want nothing less than to gain access to the one piece of evidence that could lay the “natural born” issue to rest once and for all.

The media have made their aversion to proof perversely clear: Whatever Obama does, their jarringly unified message is that he certainly should not direct the state of Hawaii to make public his original, long-form birth certificate.

Even though such a presidential directive would instantly dispense with the divisive question of whether President Obama’s still-secret, long-form birth certificate contains compromising information, it’s unlikely we’ll get a peak. The entire controversy would disappear forever if there were nothing more sensational on that document than the name of the Hawaiian hospital where baby Barack came into the world. Such mundane info is the kind of thing that’s missing from what We the People have been provided to date: brave-new-world-like Internet images of the short-form Certification of Live Birth (COLB) that the Obama campaign made available in 2008 online.

I emphasize the web-projected, liquid-crystal display nature of the imagery that the mainstream media (MSM) have unquestioningly relied on, even as they have imperiously dismissed all questions regarding its veracity and provenance as “Internet-fueled rumor.” In MSM eyes, the Obama campaign document becomes the rock-solid truth, while questions about it amount to “Internet-fueled rumor.”

To be sure, there is COLB-corroborating evidence available — contemporaneous announcements of baby Barack’s arrival in local Hawaiian papers are usually cited as the clincher — but none of it is definitive. The president’s maternal grandparents could have been the ones who placed the birth announcement in the papers, regardless of whether their first grandchild was in state residence. Even the oracles of the Hawaiian health department, periodically trotted out to pronounce that all is as should be with the president’s top secret birth papers, leave us with nothing concrete. Why won’t the president just give us a look at the thing and be done with it?

Six people, including P-D reporter, arrested at Carnahan meeting

By Leah Thorsen
ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH
08/06/2009

Kenneth Gladney, a 38-year-old conservative activist from St. Louis, said he was attacked by some of those arrested as he handed out yellow flags with “Don’t tread on me” printed on them. He spoke to the Post-Dispatch from the emergency room of the St. John’s Mercy Medical Center, where he said he was waiting to be treated for injuries to his knee, back, elbow, shoulder and face that he suffered in the attack. Gladney, who is black, said one of his attackers, also a black man, used a racial slur against him before the attack started.

“It just seems there’s no freedom of speech without being attacked,” he said.

Mr. hope and change has got Americans fighting each other in the streets over his socialist policies.

What a disaster this President is turning out to be so quickly.

Who is the genius in Obama’s administration that has it’s leadership calling out for their special interest groups to punch back and get in people’s faces.
Who is the genius that thinks Americans being attacked and having their free speech shut down for wanting answers to how THEIR money is being spent is going to reflect well on the leadership on the Hill.

The White House has seriously underestimated the will of the American people.

These Communists have been working for this for decades now. Can’t emphasize that enough. Carter and Clinton actually got in the way but there was nothing to could do about the electorate.

Now they have a true Marxist who unlike the Clintons isn’t going to back down and hang on for the ride/prestige.

There are many, many out there…it’s not just one guy or even a handful.

Once I started realizing 20 some years ago how many of them were really out there and what they were up to made me appreciate people like Senator McCarthy, Gordon Kahl, Bill Cooper, etc.

this may shock you but conservatives have a terrible track record on civil rights.

And here’s more shameful evidence to support your case.

sesquipedalian on August 7, 2009 at 7:53 AM

Strangely enough, I remember Democrats being the real roadblocks to things like the Civil Rights Act of ’68.

I also recall Dhimmicrats being the racial bean counters, the racial tension creators, the racial hustlers (Jackson, Shaaahpton, anyone?), etc.

I recall them being the ones who drew Blackface of Michael Steele, called Condi Rice a “House N!gga,” and Colin Powell an Uncle Tom, if I doooo soo recawwl.

If anyone has a poor record on race in recent decades, it is the left. They have kept the black community in a constant state of crisis, preventing that community from bettering itself. They, along with their race hustlers, have done their best to prohibit anyone, such as Bill Cosby, from offering advice to young black males about “doing the right thing.”

I suggest you do your homework when you want to sling accusations of failures on race relations.

blatantblue on August 7, 2009 at 8:14 AM

If anyone has a poor record on race, it is the left, who is constantly trying to construct a false illusion of racism. Everything is racist. Critique is racist. Question is racist. Concern is racist. Dislike is racist. Discontent is racist.

Joker posters are racist.

Voting McCain was racist.

blatantblue on August 7, 2009 at 8:17 AM

Being conservative is racist.

Being against affirmative action is racist.

Being against reparations is racist.

But saying, “a clean black guy,” gets you into the Vice Presidency.

yoda on August 7, 2009 at 8:20 AM

O/T kind of: Geraldo was just on Fox and Friends talking about the Town Hall Meetings, insinuating that the Right was packing the meetings and Peter, Gretchen, and Steve let him have it. Especially Peter Johnson, Jr, who cross examined him. Way to go, guys!

kingsjester on August 7, 2009 at 8:21 AM

Younger Adults, UNITE. Defeat the forces of the “Establishment” which is Obama.
Fight the establishment at every turn. Do what your parents did, but this time, unlike them, you’re on the correct side.

Do this, and you can spend years telling your kids how you defeated tyranny.

Look how much better than YOUR parents did, all they did was get stoned & ran off to Canada.

Not if you want honest moderates and honest liberals (there are a few) to read the article and be shocked at what their government is doing.

Also, I just love seeing mooonbat heads explode from the cognitive dissonance. And that wonderful smell of irony in the air.

research nations that are at least business friendly I am thinking Brazil, Argentina, or Australia would be good enclaves….

Sanford’s on it for us!

Seriously, though, this is getting scary. I’ve been remarking to friends for months that Ogabe was going to cause outbreaks of violence and they didn’t believe me; I knew something like this was coming, and yet I didn’t think it would be happening so fast.

God help us.

Fallen Sparrow on August 7, 2009 at 8:27 AM

The music’s stopped, Obama, and you’re still standing. Time to sit down and shut up.

Fallen Sparrow on August 7, 2009 at 8:29 AM

Honestly, this battle didn’t start with Obama for me. It started in 1966 when I was in sixth grade and I met my first leftist Communist hippie and I swore one day I’d strangle the traitor.

one of the fascinating aspects of reading HA is the bizarre nature of some things you appear to believe.

ditto. a false illusion of racism is how you interpret the ‘wise latina’ comment.

Younger adults – This movement is going to take people like blantantblue and FontanaConservative to lead the way. It takes a lot of guts to go to college and everyone else attending and teaching are Liberals.

yoda on August 7, 2009 at 8:40 AM

Being taught by liberals isn’t a bad thing. Where it goes wrong is when the opinions being spouted out by the aging hippies of academia are not challenged or the environment is such that the only “correct” answer is the instructors.

Nobody should be educated in an echo chamber and in this regard the left is essentially furthering the socialist indoctrination process. Think about it. If you are raised in a conservative home, you are exposed to varying opinions as you grow up. If you are a liberal, the public school system and most colleges essentially affirm the “truths” of socialism.
