Good news: Conservative “mobs” to be confronted by law-abiding, highly ethical … unions
posted at 2:34 pm on August 6, 2009 by Allahpundit
Sounds good. A guy from Chicago with shady connections needs some muscle, so he calls in organized labor.
What could go wrong?
Every American has the inalienable right to participate in our democratic process. Our politics is passionate, heartfelt and often loud — as was the founding of our nation. But that is not what the corporate-funded mobs are engaging in when they show up to disrupt town halls held by members of Congress.
Major health care reform is closer than ever to passage and it is no secret that special interests want to weaken or block it. These mobs are not there to participate. As their own strategy memo states, they have been sent by their corporate and lobbyist bankrollers to disrupt, heckle and block meaningful debate. This is a desperation move, meant to slow the momentum for change.
Mob rule is not democracy. People have a democratic right to express themselves and our elected leaders have a right to hear from their constituents — not organized thugs whose sole purpose is to shut down the conversation and attempt to scare our leaders into inaction
We call on the insurance companies, the lobbyists and the Republican leaders who are cheering them on to halt these ‘Brooks Brothers Riot’ tactics. Health care is a crucial issue and everyone – on all sides of the issue – deserves to be heard.
I’m dying to know: Which “strategy memo” are they referring to? They can’t possibly mean … this, can they? Exit question via Ace: Does this qualify as astroturfing too or, like racism, is that sin now wholly the province of the right?

Democrats have always been about projection justification. They make themselves believe that Republicans and Conservatives are doing something ill and nefarious, so that makes it okay that they can do it.

I really believe that the left is grossly underestimating the backlash that’s coming. Yes, there have been right wing extremist, operatives, etc. But, what they have done is awaken the everyday working man and woman to a call to arms. Never in my lifetime (40 some odd yrs) have I seen emotions from everyday citizens run so high, from either side of the aisle.

joe, the left side does have many whom violence is a way of life, but you forget they are not used to be challenged by those out of uniform that are not forced to respond with their hands tied behind their backs or fear of using “excessive force.” That is about to change.

Two reasons:
1) Eventual single-payer government health care = 2 million health care workers becoming union members and paying union dues. SEIU will become the biggest and most powerful union in U.S. history. This is a HUGE power trip for Andy Stern.
2) It’s being sold to the rank and file union members as a make-or-break for Obama, if the unions want Card Check they had better get behind him on health care.

HondaV65 on August 6, 2009 at 3:45 PM
Don’t worry about the Unions.
SEIU is the only one that will play – and they won’t be a big factor at all. ACORN is under investigation by everyone – and the whole kit and kaboodle is being torn into by the Louisiana Attorney General. They’re occupied.
What you’re left with is the UAW and the like – the blue collar working guys – and to tell the truth – they don’t like what’s going on anymore than we do. Yeah their bosses may tell them to get in the streets – but they wont.
HondaV65 on August 6, 2009 at 3:47 PM
For the time being, buddy. Do you really think the background-check information you give when you buy a firearm isn’t sitting in a Federal database somewhere?
I know the state of California definitely maintains that information. Even when you move to CA and bring your guns with you, you’re required to report them to the state DOJ: failure to do so is a felony.
Are we willing, individually, to engage in firefights on our doorsteps?
We’d better start thinking of a strategy…

In CA, farmers are going broke and over 80,000 jobs have been lost due to a court-mandated shut-off of water to the most productive farms in America – in order to protect a tiny species of non-native fish.
When the farmworkers appealed to politicians and the United Farmworker’s Union, they were told they would get no support unless they would allow themselves to be organized to agitate on behalf of Card Check.

I’m guessing the left keeps accusing concerned citizens of thuggish tactics b/c that is their playbook. Their assumption must be “if we (the extreme left) do this, then they (everyone else) must do this as well.” Either that, or they just cannot believe that anyone would honestly disagree with their ideals to make everyone wholly dependent on the federal government.

The union will come out and try to bully, but the ordinary everyday people will win over the union…not the bosses, but the union.
When they look out and begin to see it is their neighbors, teachers, kids coaches, grocery clerk, they will begin to understand, this is a nation “under God”, not under someones thumb.
And people will have the right, and will exercise the right to demonstrate and speak.
It is time for the politicians to quit speaking to us, and begin listening to us.
The unions may not like it, but they won’t fight it…for long.

I do not qusestion your intent, but might not have a working Knowledge of the tactic of which speak. It is an oold tactic, but was perfected by the infamous Clinton “War Room”.
It goes like this, just prior to engaging in to engaging in an action that you really rather not publicized or called on, you issue a statement acusing the other side of doing what you are about to do. Thyis reduces the discourse to the childish realm “But he hit me first!” vs “Nun-ah, did not!” Causing the general public to tune out in disgust and not bother to investigate any further, There-by pre-empting anyone from digging into the action you are about take. From an Atwater-esque point view, it’s beautiful!
What the the Oborgs are doing in the “astro-turf” accusations is a slight variation on the same play. Axelrod who actually coined the phrase and developed the strategy in the rough and tumble world of Chicago politics, polished its finer points in MA in Deval Patrick’s Governor’s race. Having established, with media complicity, the meme of rightwing/Corporate thugs disrupting the will of the people in town-hall formats. He will now use this meme to justify bringing in actual thugs. Again, beautiful!
The enemy is not playing bean-bag people, and they have been refing their this particular “playbook” since Mc Governs defeat after their ’72 debacle. The polls are currently swinging in our direction, and though they are reeling in the ring at the moment, they intend to to use the “recess” as the end the round bell. They will regroup vasilene their face, slip somme washers into their gloves aand come out swinging. Do not let your guard down, round 2 is about to begin!
And yes, I am one of those operatives they warn about.

I agree WD. Lots of things look bad, but never pan out. It is best to keep your powder dry until there’s an actual fight. Right now, their intent is to intimidate those who are susceptible to intimidation and prevent them from showing up at the town halls. Chances are, if that doesn’t work, they’ll try something else. If they do try to encourage union bully-boys to start cracking heads, chances are they won’t get an enthusiastic response. If they do get an enthusiastic response, then we have something to start drawing weapons over.

Mr. Baucus and Mr. Obama are in for quite a surprise if that day ever comes. Montana is full of elderly folks, and we take damn good care of them. It would seem that Mr. Baucus doesn’t share our feelings for our elderly based on the contents of his bill; the same would hold true of Mr. Obama.

As a Michigan man I’m completely aware of how these union boys work. They don’t fight fair. I worked at an auto plant at one point in my life. After I expressed my frustration with co-workers that didn’t work, my boss told me to leave early every day and he would punch me out on the time clock. He didn’t want me getting killed in the parking lot if I got out at the same time as them. They won’t face you if you outnumber them or even have equal numbers. five or six of them will pick someone out and follow them home and then teach them the union way. During the Detroit Free Press strike we lost 3 non-union workers. One to a car bomb and two to beatings. One in his own drive way. If they come out to these meetings in force, let them know times have changed. Get them on video, write down their names if you can get them, write down their License plate numbers. let them know we can keep track too. They are the worst of the worst. They can’t win in a debate because thier average IQ is 20pts less than a republicans so they intimidate. And thier not smart enough to worry about consequences, which is exactly what makes them dangerous.

Same here. My Dad was a mill manager in Louisiana.
There was a strike. About 1am one night we heard the phone ring. Then my dad ran into our room, told us to get up, and
rushed us out to the middle of the street.
It was a bomb threat. At our home!
My twin sister and I were 6. Other girls were 9 and 8.
We were out in that cold street for 6 hours while the bomb squad checked the house.
There were other incidents…flat tires, rocks through windows. But that was the one that stuck with me the most. I was terrified….and soooo angry that they would do that to my Dad.
