Quotes of the day

posted at 10:30 pm on August 5, 2009 by Allahpundit

“At one point, U.S. Rep. Mike Ross sat with his head in his hands while the crowd shouted. He and fellow Democratic Rep. Vic Snyder told audience members at a forum at Arkansas Children’s Hospital that they wouldn’t support a completely government-run, single-payer health insurance plan.

‘But that’s what Obama wants!’ an audience member shouted, leading to more heckling…

‘I’ve said this several times but let me see if I can make it a little more clear,’ Ross said. ‘I don’t represent Speaker (Nancy) Pelosi or President Obama or (House Finance Committee Chairman) Barney Frank. I represent the people of Arkansas and I’m not voting for any bill that forces any one plan on anyone, period.’”

As a native Arkansan, That’s my state baby!

Mike Ross is about the most conservative dem imaginable. God, gays, guns, the whole thing.

Snyder is sorta liberal for Arkansas but he’s a moderate outside of the south, and a vietnam vet

Point is…. if THESE GUYS are hearing it, ANYONE can hear it.

Who gave these morons their talking points? Karl Rove? People who are concerned about O-Care — I mean, regular folks, not even the ones who show up at these meetings — are just going to love being called Nazis by implication.

So far, Blue Dog Democrats have all been yellow.

battleoflepanto1571 on August 5, 2009 at 10:33 PM

I thought Obama only needs 51 votes to pass whatever version of health care he wants, single-payer even, using the reconciliation process. I am under the impression that he has 51 votes.

So to me, the question is will he risk his entire political career on what he claims is the most important thing he will do in his entire political career?

My guess is that Obama is a destroyer, and would rather go down, than allow the US to continue as it is. I think he wants to take the whole edifice down. So I think he will get his health care plan passed come what may.

JiangxiDad on August 5, 2009 at 10:39 PM

TexasDan on August 5, 2009 at 10:41 PM

The ironic thing is that the left spent the last eight years accusing the Bush administration and Republicans of being fascists yet it is the Obama administration the DNC and the Democratic House and Senate leadership that are actually behaving like fascists.

Maybe there needs to be a new Joker poster made with Pelosi’s face on it that says “Why So Fascist?”.

I bet $1000000 if the bill gets outta committe, 2 of the 3 dems in Arkansas congress vote no and at least 1 of the 2 senators votes no, maybe both.

Jiangxi dad,

218 on the house have to pass it first

I believe GOP has 178, so assuming new orleans’ Cao stays loyal, we need 40 defectors. Arkansas will have 2, maybe 3 (but I bet snyder votes yes) alone. Add in places like the Dakotas, Idaho, Wyoming, Oklahoma, etc and you have 25 or so from “small states that lean conservative”.

So the question is, in the “big states”, are there 15 good men/women to kill it? I say yes with a high number of freshmen and sophs voting no. Sodom averted!!

Snyder is a Pelosi Liberal originally hailing from Oregon. Ross will say whatever he needs to to save his skin. Fortunately my Rep. is John Boozman who needs no heckling to do the right thing.
If the AR GOP would actually run someone against Snyder he might lose. Last year they didn’t even field a candidate.
I called them several times expressing my desire to run against him and just once they returned my call and asked for my CV. I never heard from them again. With my 8 yrs in the Navy, MBA, BSME, and 8 yrs in the private sector I think I’d have had a chance. His district did go for McCain after all.
I’ve since moved from LR to Bentonville.

i did a quick Google search and found a small number of pictures where Tea party protesters had a drawing with a reference to Obama as a Hitler like figure. That’s all I could find. it’s funny that Speaker Pelosi has found religion on this topic, since her supporters were comparing Bush to Hitler for the past 8 years. I’m guessing she asked her staff to try to dig up something embarrasing or bizarre from the tea parties, and this is what they saw and reported back to her. BTW, is anything going on with the whole Pelosi VS CIA thing ?

couldn’t agree more. I’m a HUGE fan of mike Beebe. Generally speaking, the Arkansas dems don’t bother me bc compared to pelosi they are Tom tancredo. Honestly I get more annoyed with the over the top social issues mantra of some of the Ark GOP (seems to be more in nwa). Still, I’d be happy to see anyone, the ghost of Tommy Robinson even, defeat berry Ross or snyder

on the senate, good luck. Blanche has name recognition, but that guy with no ads and a Jesus fish sign got 45% vs her in 2004. 2010 should be interesting. Pryor? Who knows. He fools me on his moderate status with his gang of 13 junk, then votes party line on EVERYTHING

Hmmm, sounds desperate but, maybe not, it sounds like they are beginning to hedge their bets for the coming implosion of their socialist agenda.

They are now positioning themselves and looking for scapegoats to hold their base (what’s left of it) next year.

Statement from DNC Communications Director Brad Woodhouse on the Republican Party and Allied Groups’ Mob Rule

The Republicans and their allied groups – desperate after losing two consecutive elections and every major policy fight on Capitol Hill – are inciting angry mobs of a small number of rabid right wing extremists funded by K Street Lobbyists to disrupt thoughtful discussions about the future of health care in America taking place in Congressional Districts across the country.

However, much like we saw at the McCain-Palin rallies last year where crowds were baited with cries of ‘socialist,’ ‘communist,’ and where the birthers movement was born – these mobs of extremists are not interested in having a thoughtful discussion about the issues – but like some Republican leaders have said – they are interested in ‘breaking’ the President and destroying his Presidency.

These mobs are bussed in by well funded, highly organized groups run by Republican operatives and funded by the special interests who are desperately trying to stop the agenda for change the President was elected to bring to Washington. Despite the headline grabbing nature of these angry mobs and their disruptions of events, they are not reflective of where the American people are on the issues – or the hundreds of thousands of thoughtful discussions taking place around kitchen tables, water coolers and in homes.

The right wing extremists’ use of things like devil horns on pictures of our elected officials, hanging members of Congress in effigy, breathlessly questioning the President’s citizenship and the use of Nazi SS symbols and the like just shows how outside of the mainstream the Republican Party and their allies are. This type of anger and discord did not serve Republicans well in 2008 – and it is bound to backfire again.”

You can smell the fear…

Let’s use their fear against them…we can own them.
