Cult leader to followers: Get out there and get in people’s faces on health care

posted at 4:37 pm on August 5, 2009 by Allahpundit

A new e-mail from Mt. Olympus via the boss. “Get in their faces” is a paraphrase in this case, but of course he’s been known to use those exact words in the past when mobilizing the faithful to do battle with the barbarian right-wing hordes. I’m sure they’re capable of reading between the lines.

Savor the nuance of a guy with his own online army worrying about astroturfing and political “mobs.”

There are those who profit from the status quo, or see this debate as a political game, and they will stop at nothing to block reform. They are filling the airwaves and the internet with outrageous falsehoods to scare people into opposing change. And some people, not surprisingly, are getting pretty nervous. So we’ve got to get out there, fight lies with truth, and set the record straight.

That’s why Organizing for America is putting together thousands of events this month where you can reach out to neighbors, show your support, and make certain your members of Congress know that you’re counting on them to act.

But these canvasses, town halls, and gatherings only make a difference if you turn up to knock on doors, share your views, and show your support. So here’s what I need from you:

Can you commit to join at least one event in your community this month?

What does “joining” an event mean? Verum Serum offers a few highlights from the townhall playbook developed by lefty outfit Health Care for America Now. Sample: “It is important that you take away right-wingers opportunities to talk to reporters by making sure that your staff or leaders are in constant contact with the media who attend.” Never did I dream I’d find the left panicked about losing the media on health care, but there you have it, in spectacularly creepy fashion. Be sure to follow VS’s link and read the full playbook at Talking Points Memo or else you’ll miss many important insights into the conservative mindset, such as our willingness to use “abusive language, arrests, props and physical violence” to earn a little camera time. In the meantime, though, a trip down memory lane back to last September…

Many folks on the somewhat more cerebral blogs like HA and the Townhall folks try to separate themselves from Jim Robinson and the Freepers. Don’t be associated with fringe types. Frepers are paranoid, conspiratorial. Can anyone objectively look at what is coming out of the WhiteHouse, the DNC, and Obama’s permanent campaign orgs and not believe that not only are Freepers not paranoid, they’ve probably undrestimated the threat to Liberty.

It’s a rating system for the level of awesomeness one’s comment possesses.

“+1″ is the usual response, and carries a time-honored connotation of respect.

but for effect, the rater will give the score exponential value increases (though it’s not needed for general connotation to be understood), just b/c a comment is soooooo awesome that it leaves all others at the moment dead in their tracks.

Who does this quote remind anyone of?

Experience teaches us to be most on our guard to protect liberty when the government’s purpose is beneficent. Men born to freedom are naturally alert to repel invasion of their liberty by evil-minded rulers. The greatest dangers to liberty lurk in insidious encroachment by men of zeal, well-meaning but without understanding. -Louis Dembitz Brandeis, lawyer, judge, and writer (1856-1941)

Republicans played a trick on Democrats today by redirecting angry telephone calls coming into their switchboard to the Democratic National Committee, CNN reports.

Earlier this morning, the DNC released a web video accusing the GOP of inciting mob activity.

“At the end of the video, the DNC instructs people to call the Republican National Committee to express outrage. Callers who dial the RNC’s main number to voice their concern about the DNC’s charges are told to press 1, which sends them to the DNC’s main switchboard.”

One piece of advice, guys. BYOM – Bring Your Own Media.

Bring your own camcorders, your tape recorders, your interviewers, etc. Show plenty of strength in numbers and knowledge.

Record EVERYTHING that moves – legs, hands, or mouth. When done, put it all on the Internet.

Who needs the Democrat Media? They will NEVER be fair to us, anyway. At least, we can fight back and show them for a change!

Right on, Newton. As a conservative broadcast journalist I can tell you that traditional, local and national TV news has long been going the way of local and national print journalism…down the toilet. Much more attention is given to producing web specific stories because that’s where the advertizing bucks are now, not the nightly newscasts. Reporters and producers are expected to use their cell phones to capture video and still pics when they don’t have a photographer with them to post to the web, and also write web content in addition to their buck-ten, superficial packages that run in various time slots. The best way to combat the MSM is to fight fire with fire and shoot, edit, write, and post your material in places like this, youtube, and your own personal blogs.

From Redstate:

I have confirmed from multiple Republican congressional offices that, despite Democrat attempts to portray American citizens as “Nazi-like” and “a mob” for questioning members of Congress on healthcare, the DNC is coordinating activity to target swing district Republican congressmen in their offices.

Multiple Republican offices have received calls from the Democratic National Committee in their district offices asking for the office hours of the office, when the Congressman is expected to be in the office, etc. Staffers in the offices are confident the data will be compiled by the DNC to send activists to Republicans’ offices to push the healthcare agenda.

In other words — while the Democrats are accusing the Republicans of orchestrating protestors at open townhalls, the Democrats are going to push activists straight into congressional offices to cause scenes fit for the local newscasts.

BakerAllie on August 5, 2009 at 5:13 PM

I hope everyone is getting involved in this. This is what my personal letter looked like. I apologize for the length of this comment, but I’d love to see what others are writing to these clowns:

Dear Mr. President,

First, let me say, it is truly an honor to send an email to you. I never thought I’d see the day I’d be called upon to inform on myself or my fellow Americans, but I guess this is another example of that there “change” you were telling us you’d bring to the White House?

As a citizen of this country who suffers from not only fibromyalgia, but Parkinson’s Disease and a deteriorating spine, I’d like to thank you for your plans to change the healthcare system. After all, there’s nothing more I want to do more than worry about what is going to happen to me should my diseases continue to be “untreatable.” Your plan is just nifty for folks like me, who will find ourselves farmed out by doctors who are scared they’re going to lose their incomes if they can’t treat us and street us fast enough. Just to let you know, people like myself, with difficult disorders that sometimes take YEARS to diagnose, will be the first to get the boot when our doctors have to prove they’re getting somewhere with our treatment in order to be paid. For five years I made very little progress (in fact, I’ve deteriorated since first having problems) and it’s not looking all that good for my “cure” in the future. But thanks to your new plans, I’m sure you’ll have all sorts of new ideas for how to get me out of the way so those who have “hope” can be treated. Just bear in mind, I ain’t done here yet and any plans you might have to “help” me move on to … whatever … might be met with some, how shall I put this, difficulty?

But I digress. After all, this email was supposed to be one of those you and yours have asked for. It’s supposed to be an email outing those who don’t agree with your plans. So let me be blunt. My name is Monica M. Brown and I do NOT agree with your plan. Be sure and spell that right when you put it on whatever database your advisers will need. In fact, I and my family think it stinks to high heaven, right along with most of the things you’re doing to our country. And while you’re at it, be sure and add this: I am NOT a “Brooks Brothers” protester nor am I part of the “astro turf” movement. As a matter of fact, Mr. President, I am one of those “little guys” you claim to be concerned about. I and my family are among those you claim to be assisting with your plans to “not” raise taxes on the middle class. At 40K a year, we’re as middle class as you can get with a little “lower class” added in since I can’t work and it takes YEARS to get Social Security disability unless you’re a junkie or someone who doesn’t really need it.

At some point you, Mr. President, and all those who work with you are going to have to come to terms with the fact that there are MANY of us out here who disagree with your policies. Instead of dismissing us as Republican shills, when are you going to give us the respect those in YOUR party demanded when they were protesting during the previous presidency? I find it strange that whenever someone disagrees with you or your policies or government they are immediately dismissed as wingnut republicans, when just a few years ago, it was considered the height of patriotic duty to scream and rage and act like spoiled children who had just lost their favorite toys all in the name of “disagreement and dissent.”

So, name submitted. Dissent admitted. As I said before, make sure you get it right. There are a whole lot of people out there with the name “Brown.” I’d hate for someone else to get put on the list in place of me because I’m proud as hell to stand up and say “KEEP YOUR HANDS OFF OUR HEALTHCARE!”

And while you’re at it, why don’t you guys quit stickin’ yer noses into business and other aspects of private, non-government life? After all, it seems like ya’ll (Yep, I’m a country gal, and yes, I cling to my religion and other things very strongly.) could better spend the time and money you’re putting out on this and your other ill-advised programs into fixing relations with the allies you’ve alienated in your first few months as the Head Dude. Or maybe you could get someone to school you on proper protocol and etiquette so you don’t embarrass yourself and the rest of us when you’re out and about among the other leaders of the world or our military men and women anymore than you have to. Just a thought.

Once again, thanks for everything Mr. President. Your efforts have validated everything I believed about you before, during and after the election.

Sincerely,

Monica M. Brown
Proud American Conservative

(… and surely, publicly assaulting a congresscritter, in broad daylight, would be all sorts of newsworthy…) ;)

Just a quick heads-up, as I expect this is meant to go viral.

Kent18 on August 5, 2009 at 4:39 PM

It’s on the Huffington Post now. They have a article headlined “Dems See “Backlash” In Violent Town Hall Protests”

No mention of any violence until the last paragraph…

“While no congressman has felt the need to go to the Democratic leadership for help handling the protests, Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-Va.) said that one freshman has been physically assaulted. Rep. Tim Bishop (D-N.Y.) had to be escorted to his car by police after a a June 22 event.”

Sounds like heresay to me, to them it is worthy headline material.

If Linda Douglass shows up in her next YouTube video dressed like Ilsa, She Wolf of the SS, then we know things have gotten out of hand.

I do not care… And I think many do not also, just pointing out how quickly it will come out that any disagreement with this administration, will result in being branded a racist.

The White House would probably be surprised how many Democrats and Independents are in these crowds booing the member of Congress that supports Obamacare.

I’m sure they know, that’s why Obama is getting his goons squads ready. He wants to silence their voices and intimidate people into staying home and shutting up.

I dare say that if his goons squads show up and try to shut people up there will probably be some fists a’ flyin’.

DNC – The party of Projection

Chainsaw56 on August 5, 2009 at 5:21 PM

I’ll go one better. DNC- The party of corruption!

capejasmine on August 5, 2009 at 5:23 PM

You say Corruption! I say Projection, Let’s call the whole thing off.

I’m still waiting for the first scandal– it’ll probably be a dozy

Chainsaw56 on August 5, 2009 at 5:44 PM

Savor the nuance of a guy with his own online army worrying about astroturfing and political “mobs.”

Yeah, we’ve all encountered his little zombies on the ‘net, posting like they’re getting paid by the word…but don’t dare let grandma go to a townhall meeting and say she’s afraid of his socialized medicine.

Don’t want to look unhinged, after all.

The more this unfolds, the more dangerous I think these leftists are.

capitalist piglet on August 5, 2009 at 5:46 PM

The way I see it this isn’t so much about reforming health care as it is about power. If it were really about reforming health care they would listen to the CBO and the GOP and take their time to try and get this right. If it isn’t right, (and we all know from what we’ve seen that it isn’t), the walls will crumble. They smell defeat and they’re desperate. And, if they know people don’t want this and they vote it through anyway? It’s a lose lose situation for them. They’re not smart enough to fix the health care problems. Nor were they smart enough to fix the economy. Or run the banks and the auto companies.

What’s scary is we don’t know how far he’ll go. He’s not used to not getting his own way. He’s been built up by others his whole life. This guy has made a living feeding off the misery of others.

I wish Obama would treat his domestic enemies the same as our foreign enemies. Then, at best, we’d get lots of money. At worst, we’d get a memo.

Yeah… I could stand to be “relocated” to Bermuda. Those former Gitmo detainees are probably having the time of their lives, romping around in the surf.

So a group of pro-health was walking by a tennis tournament, sponsored by several corporations.
Their shirts read “No need for Corporate Greed”, and some signs stating the same and similar.
They stop for water and fruit we had for the players (not for them), we said they could have some but it was corporately sponsored, be sure and support them. No problem was their statement.
They had a total disconnect between what they were doing and saying…behind them was their “organizer” chanting, and we chided him for dipping into the corporate well.
It didn’t matter…all they want is to cause problems, not solve them.

That’s what they want you to do. Then they’ll call out their army of lawyers and sue you blind … just to show everyone what will happen to them if they dare do it.

Don’t ever do anything against them unless someone is video taping and they strike first.

If this “reform” is so wonderful and needed then why don’t we already have it?

Short Answer: because it’s crapola.

thevastlane on August 5, 2009 at 5:56 PM

No, but this is no ordinary president, with no ordinary “followers”.

Presidents don’t usually attack private citizens from the stump, but this one has. They don’t ordinarily refer to the White House as their own, either.

This guy is in a class by himself. And it’s not at all comforting that he seems inclined not to challenge bad guys all around the world.

Americans have made a big mistake this time. I hope we make it.

I wonder if my Senator, Ma’am Boxer, will have a “townhall”. If so, ya think I can get in looking like a bum living on the street in Hollywood? I’d hate for her to think that I am being paid off by some health care symposium….
