FYI, Ed, this post made Benny Peiser's CCNet e-letter, a good source of news on the 'climate change' front. I didn't see it because I've been spending most of my Internet time over on WattsUpWithThat (many fascinating developments).

But FWIW, I think it's too soon to pat ourselves on the back. The Dems want socialized medicine very badly, and these so-called 'health reform' bills are considered an essential step. And Obama and his eco-fascist 'science' advisor desperately don't want to go to Copenhagen in December without a 'climate change' bill. They have a lot of 'stimulus' money lying around to buy off recalcitrant Democrats (and even some Republicans?).

Keep the eggs warm, or our chickens may never hatch.

Hopefully most a majority of the Democrats will seal their political doom with their attempts to pass both of these craptastic peices of legislation and be voted out of office in the 2010 elections.

By 2011, <strike>Republicans</strike> Conservatives will have made gains in the House and Senate

FIFY.

The Republicans lost me last election. Let them die as a party.

If they don’t get back on the 2009 agenda, they’re likely dead.

From your mouth to God’s ears.
Rosmerta on August 5, 2009

If that's a prayer, I join you in it.

Every time I think of the Press covering for Obama it reminds me of Bush's quote : "The soft bigotry of low expectations"

Can the expectations of the Press get any lower?

I'm skeptical. Isn't The One meeting with a few senators over the health care plan (of which the amended form is still under wraps?)...?

What if this is settled before we even realize it and they do the same with Cap and Tax in the interim...that means they can come back and vote on both measures immediately.

I'm not sure what the passion index is of the populace over cap and tax, but if it's anywhere near like it is over ObamaCare they (the Dems) would be wise to not want to go through all of this stuff again.

darwin: I hear you! This administration came to power in part due to the malaise of the electorate, and they will exploit it in the future, too, if they sense the chance.

Cap'n: in writing about the prospects of the 112th Congress, you count too many chickens that haven't been laid yet, much less hatched. There's only one party around that could screw up an opportunity like this. . .and that, unfortunately, is today's GOP. Maybe somebody/some organization will come along to help us to the light, but for now you'd be a fool to bet on significant changes in the midterms. This activism today is driven by issues, not by party. The GOP assumes this will benefit only them at their peril.

And don't forget: the cards are stacked against the GOP in a manner that other mid-terms didn't have for the out-of-power party, which is the fact that flat-out voter fraud and voter disenfranchisement activities have essentially been approved by this administration.

"To win, you need not be better. . .just willing to do that which your opponent will not" Conservatives' electoral opponents clearly don't mind undermining the foundation of democracy to get/hold their power. A GOP candidate will have to hold an overwhelming popularity in the congressional district in order to win any election. . .until such time that someone is able to get ACORN put in their place

I worry most about cap and trade because some very big people, i.e. Al Gore and his cronies, and some very big corporations, GE prominent among them, have invested huge amounts of money in "green" energy. They'll never get the huge profits they're expecting without cap and trade being passed.
O'Reilly is on Immelt's case again. Seems GE has been fined 50M for fraud at the same time they received over 150B in bailout money. And Immelt sits on Obama's Economic Advisory Council. Where's the outrage from the MSM? Oh, that's right, Immelt is the MSM.

Card Check is dead. With the provision for throwing out the secret ballot gone, the unions won't be brought off with the rest of the legislation. So there's no gain for the Democrats to push it. With the elections coming up, few Democrats are stupid enough to vote for Crap and Tax just before facing the public. That's 2 policy initiatives shot down. The third nail will be health care via government control.

If all of Barry's grand plans fail there will be hell to pay in the future. Expect a furious narcissist to lash out in anger and extract some mob-like payback. Some will have to swim with the fishes.

Ok... that does sound kind of fishy, doesn't it.

Sigh... I'll mail myself to the snitch czar.

I actually support reform of health-insurance regulation to a degree, though I certainly do not support a Federal takeover of the business.

But as far as I'm concerned opposing carbon regulation in any form is a litmus-test issue. These people have to be stopped.

Cap and Trade is NOT DEAD--

This is the "old way" of doing things. It goes like this--get a cheap political victory, then rest on laurels.

No way, no how folks. Cap and Trade and Obamacare need to be smashed, disassembled, investigated, reported and followed all the way back to the keyboard from whence they were spawned. The guy who authored these things needs to be questioned, tried for treason then run out of town. Then his keyboard needs to be destroyed and files deleted. Then, any class or committee that he or she once sat on needs to be disassembled and these ideas must be followed back down to the end of the dark hole where they crawled from. If, and only IF, you can convince us that this apparatus is in complete disarray--only THEN--you could convince us that this was dead.

Start your march, sharpen your knife and pursue this with the ruthlessness of a Marine clearing a house.

Take it apart--congressman by congressman, district by district and line by line, tear it apart.

We don't need a majority to prevail, we simply need an irate and tireless minority, keen on lighting brushfires in the minds of men.

Go light some fires.

One of the truly sweet things about this is all those Democrats that had there arms twisted so hard to go along with it are now hung out to dry on a bad vote they didn't have to make.... all those campaign ads "pre-made" that can be used against them for zip.... zero... nada. I think this will only serve to place them in an even more sour mood on supporting nationalized health care.

Cap-and-trade dead now, too?

Nothing will ever be dead until the democrats are out of power. Come to think of it, nothing will ever be dead until the democrat party either purges it's progressives and communists or dissolves.
