The fact is that you are wildly overreacting to this.

Yep, and if Kimmel had been able to put out some decent patrols the Arizona might have been scrapped after the war for razor blades, and not ended up as a tomb for a 1000+ Americans.

I can't overreact to anything. Last I checked, I don't have control of a single Orion, Carrier, Sub or helo.. However, as I stated earlier, having a "Community organizer" in charge makes me leery of him getting maneuvered into a "fools Mate" by old KGB Putin. The only thing saving us would be that Putin would be laughing his arse off.

I would love for a chance to interview our jugears in chief as to the capabilities of the Akula and it's weapons systems and the capabilities we have that are public knowledge. The lamestream media made a big deal out of a setup interview with Palin. I would love to see how Jugears would fare except that it would just give Putin, the gargoyle and achmarhidinan too much confidence.

A major threat to America has been largely ignored by those who could prevent it. An electromagnetic pulse (EMP) attack could wreak havoc on the nation’s electronic systems—shutting down power grids, sources, and supply mechanisms. An EMP attack on the United States could irreparably cripple the coun try. It could simultaneously inflict large-scale damage and critically limit our recovery abilities. Congress and the new Administration must recognize the significance of the EMP threat and take the necessary steps to protect against it.

izoneguy on August 5, 2009 at 10:32 AM

EMP would kill at least 50 percent of the country either immediately or over time. We'd be f***cked sideways if that was the case.

You can also forget about worrying about that sorta thing while Obama and the Democrats are in charge.

It wouldn't take much to prepare for an EMP attack... but congress is sitting on it's a** in that regard.

I miss the old federalist slogan: Millions for defense, not a penny for tribute. Now it's 'Trillions for Stimulus but pennies for defense'.

It would be pretty simple in point. You could take academic measures that would cost a few billion. Sounds like a bit much, but seeing that we're spending trillions on bailouts and stimuli it wouldn't be much, and it would actually provide actual shovel ready jobs.

But seeing that we can't cough up 120 some odd million dollars to fund the F22 production lines... yeah, we're screwed.

bullseye,

Take off the tinfoil hat and put on your thinking cap. If they were serious about a disabling strike, they could simply unload cargo from a commercial flight at any number of airports. There are no other indications of raised security levels for the Russians.

What does Russian human rights have to do with this? Completely unrelated.

The fact is that you are wildly overreacting to this.

Ohh, noooo. Commie subs off Georgia's coast? WOW. I need to drive over there (4 miles) and look out to sea and see if I can see the hammer and sickle. Hmmm. Maybe Obama'll invite the captain and crew ashore so he can talk to them and persuade them to give up their mean nasty submarine too.

Canadians have had experience with this for ages. It's an old tactic and one that is serious. The Russians want to seize control of whatever territory they can. Yes, Canada forced the Russians out from their northern seas. The Russians now know what technology we have and just how much it is linked with the US for detecting them. They've been controlling those waters for years before we noticed. They're doing the same thing with the US. If they can seize control, they will. However, they do have a need for machoism. Better hope that's all it is. The fact that they were seen seems to indicate that they wanted to be detected.

quote
That’s right, bullseye. And Russian airliners fly into D.C., New York, Los Angeles every day. So if they are going to attack us, why do it with subs?
endquote

ok lets look at that assumption

an airline scenario has a couple of problems

1 it would be a suicide mission which the russkies aren't real big on

2 if you just stuck a nuke on a plane with an unsuspecting pilot you can't target very well for a decapiating strike. ..unless you think the airports are located at 1600 pennsylvania ave.. or unless you go say 5 to 10 mts in an airburst

quote
The proximity to our coast reduces response time — We probably wouldn’t get a shot off to stop the first salvo if our Los Angeles were right behind them — which they are.
endquote

it would take a heck of a torp to catch an akula once it steps on the gas assuming a stern shot.we have some torps in that class but you would have to be real close. it is like the man and ferrarri race

Minor nitpick, but none of those airliners are made with the sole purpose of destruction. Attack subs...are.

Just curious, do you think that the moon landing actually happened?

Terry: out in international water we don't call home for the need to shoot. This is an escalation of tensions. Look back at the Sosus tapes of the U.S. Scorpion sinking. Some experts believe the Soviets sank her in response to their belief we sank their Kilo class sub off Hawaii. You know the one the Glomar Explorer later tried to, or in fact, did raise from the ocean floor. There evidently was, either, a circular run of one of our own torpedoes or a Soviet sub killed her while tailing their fleet.

Thank you, that was going to be my second point. You spoke of somebody entering your supermarket. Now that is a direct threat similar to entering someones coastal waters. This was nothing like that, which makes your point retarded. So again, shut the F up.

So, if I stand on the public sidewalk like that, you won't be wetting your thong when you drive into the parking lot in your prius??

Explain to me, idiot, how would you respond to another countries sub that never entered your waters. God, if it was up to somebody like you everything would be a provocation worthy of a military response. Thank God that isn’t the case.

Terry Silver on August 5, 2009 at 3:15 PM

Dunno if you are talking to yourself or not here.

Anyway, do you understand that one of the great national pastimes of the Russians is..... Chess??

This is a case of moving that little horsie guy in front of the pawn in front of the king and seeing what we do.

Of course, with the jugeared jackass moving our pieces, I wouldn't be surprised if they pulled off a 'fools checkmate".. How many moves does that take??

Why is this news? Boy, anything to attack Obama huh? Did they enter U.S. waters? No. Did they pose any threat? No. What should we do, sink em?

Terry Silver on August 5, 2009 at 2:43 PM

Uh, yeah, I guess you're right Terry. Major Russian sub maneuvers off our coast, which they rarely have done in recent history, really aren't news.

Did anyone hear what Bo the dog is up too today...digging in the garden?!?!

Bullseye,
That analogy is wildly inaccurate. Russian subs steaming well off our coast is not a threat in the same manner as you walking through the super market heavily armed.

Oh yeah, never mind, the fact that if they offload their torps, they can carry 40 plus tube launched missiles means they are no threat. What would that be?? no more than 20 megatons total.. If they were low yield tactical, then it's a mere 200KT or so total.

They are undoubtably in international waters. .. Just like we were in the Gulf of Libyia when Hank Kleeman bagged his mig.

I also caught a news article that the Sovs.. er Russians were doing some surface ship exercises in our backyard.

I'm just glad we have a guy at the helm with experience. .. You know trading mansions for control of a hospital board, community organizing, voting present etc.

I just hope someone is briefing the teletubbies properly.

Turd Sliver

The proximity to our coast reduces response time --- We probably wouldn't get a shot off to stop the first salvo if our Los Angeles were right behind them --- which they are.

They are just doing a little elint, chasing our boomers, testing our defenses, or, practicing launch exercises on their way to joint manoeuvers with our new brothers in Cuba and Venezuela. By the way, other parts of their fleet are exercising with Iran right now.

I'm not worried about it. But, just to let you know: SSBN suppresed trajectory launch at that range 6 minutes to Armageddon. Akula's with high speed cruise missiles at that range: you will have time to take that last drink and get a smoke in as you chant Hope and Change!

The ultimate meaning of all this: We don't know. Allah raised possibilities. I say #4. We are just counting possibilities after years with no known Ruskie SSN's off our coast.

Repeat after me: They are doing world wide simultaneous exercises with a lot of our enemies who Obama thinks are peachy keen.

By military response, I meant attacking the Russians, and I didn't see anyone here suggesting that.
