DNC goes nuclear: Mobs of right-wing extremists are attacking our health-care town halls! Flashback: Obama tells cultists to “get in their faces”
posted at 7:25 pm on August 4, 2009 by Allahpundit
Fortuitously timed, coming as it does just one day after we revisited some of the left’s greatest hits in demonizing Bush, McCain, Palin, etc. They’re like the proverbial guy in spectacles who sucker-punches you and then shrieks when you move to retaliate about not hitting a man wearing glasses. Such delicate flowers they are:
Statement from DNC Communications Director Brad Woodhouse on the Republican Party and Allied Groups’ Mob Rule: The Republicans and their allied groups – desperate after losing two consecutive elections and every major policy fight on Capitol Hill – are inciting angry mobs of a small number of rabid right wing extremists funded by K Street Lobbyists to disrupt thoughtful discussions about the future of health care in America taking place in Congressional Districts across the country.
However, much like we saw at the McCain-Palin rallies last year where crowds were baited with cries of ‘socialist,’ ‘communist,’ and where the birthers movement was born – these mobs of extremists are not interested in having a thoughtful discussion about the issues – but like some Republican leaders have said – they are interested in ‘breaking’ the President and destroying his Presidency.
These mobs are bussed in by well funded, highly organized groups run by Republican operatives and funded by the special interests who are desperately trying to stop the agenda for change the President was elected to bring to Washington. Despite the headline grabbing nature of these angry mobs and their disruptions of events, they are not reflective of where the American people are on the issues – or the hundreds of thousands of thoughtful discussions taking place around kitchen tables, water coolers and in homes.
The right wing extremists’ use of things like devil horns on pictures of our elected officials, hanging members of Congress in effigy, breathlessly questioning the President’s citizenship and the use of Nazi SS symbols [Heaven forbid. -- ed.] and the like just shows how outside of the mainstream the Republican Party and their allies are. This type of anger and discord did not serve Republicans well in 2008 – and it is bound to backfire again.
I added the boldface in case the media’s unclear on which words the DNC wants them to emphasize when they’re reading this release on air. Needless to say, this is the left’s pitiful — and ironic, given the lip service paid above to “thoughtful discussion” — strategy to win the ObamaCare debate by framing the GOP as stone-cold nuts before its own message machine gets rolling during the recess this month. Already today, we’ve had Axelrod whining on MSNBC about “fearmongering” (more irony!), Boxer fretting about people in suits “storming” the town halls, and smilin’ Dick Durbin lamenting that “tea baggers” are trying to turn the meetings into “free for alls.” Isn’t that what the left did for years in public meetings about the war, asked Jake Tapper of Gibbs earlier today. You’ll find the answer below. But before you watch, courtesy of Greenroom all-star Karl, a few talking points for the left to use as their “thoughtful discussion” goes forward:
* People who want Congress to take more time debating healthcare are shutting down debate.
* Pres. Obama says the time for talk on healthcare is over, but his critics are trying to shut down debate.
* Harassing and threatening the families of AIG employees is awesome; razzing Representatives and Senators is totally bogus!
* Asking Representatives and Senators to read bills before voting on them is killing democracy.
* Sen. Specter saying “we have to make judgments very fast” is awesome. Booing him for saying so is shutting off debate.
* Healthcare protesters are thugs shutting off debate; antiwar protesters are “rowdy.”
Not “thugs,” Karl. “Mobs” and “extremists.”
Update: I can’t believe I forgot this golden oldie from the campaign trail last September. Thanks to Omri Ceren for reminding me.
The feistier, more sarcastic tone came as worried Democrats urged Obama to get tougher and show more passion. Obama has tried to assure donors and voters that he’s been schooled by Chicago politics…
In Elko, Obama tried to anticipate his critics and called on the crowd of about 1,500 to sharpen their elbows, too.
“I need you to go out and talk to your friends and talk to your neighbors. I want you to talk to them whether they are independent or whether they are Republican. I want you to argue with them and get in their face,” he said.
“And if they tell you that, ‘Well, we’re not sure where he stands on guns.’ I want you to say, ‘He believes in the Second Amendment.’ If they tell you, ‘Well, he’s going to raise your taxes,’ you say, ‘No, he’s not, he’s going lower them.’ You are my ambassadors. You guys are the ones who can make the case.”

Well said – the telling part in all this is that Democrats now find themselves in the position of FORCING their policies on the American people.
And quite frankly – I LOVE IT! We could have gone for years with this “triangulation” crap where neither party did anything but work on the fringe.
But now it looks like we may actually get down to brass tacks here – and everyone will put all their cards on the table. In the end – someone is going to be permanently damaged and I don’t think it will be the side that has the American people’s support.
The Dems are playing a deadly game with their future – LOL – I pray they keep playing it!

I work in VA and listen to a lot of radio news during the day. I’m very surprised that Deeds-D is doing so poorly. Isn’t he a relatively moderate Democrat from a rural area of the Commonwealth? If so, it’s an encouraging surprise that the Republican is so far ahead of him. I have been worried that the Dem would pull a lot of independents and middle of the road voters if he was perceived as a moderate type. Can you comment on this… Why do you think O’Donnell-R is so far ahead? Is it just the Obama factor? Blowback on the DEMS in general for multiple policy initiatives they’ve pushed through?

About 15 years ago I went to a pro gun rally on our capitol steps. There were about 10,000 of us and about half were legally armed. That is almost a half a division’s worth of firepower (I know not the same effect but say a couple of companies worth at least.) It was a peaceful protest and most of us were having friendly discussions with the cops.
On the way home the bombastic news music came on
There was a big protest in harrisburg today
(us – yeah)
25 people were in senator snotface’s office protesting the plight of the homeless
(us -WTF??? WTF??? maybe we’re next))
In other news, the Phillies are 0 and 8.
(WTF WTF WTFF WTF??????)
In the paper the pic of the 25 dirtball homeless protestors was on the front page above the fold. The 10, 0000 pro gubn people – on page c8 1/16th of the page and half of that was devoted to the brady bunch.
HOWEVER, things have changed. If you go to an event and you have a third gen phone, live blog the sucker.

Hearing these comments reminds me of the recent ‘protests’ near the homes of targeted AIG execs where people were in fact bussed in to ‘protest’. It appears that this latest spin from the DNC is a case of projection.

Gibbs is correct. I was all for socialized, rationed medicine that works soooo well in England. Then K street special interests knocked on my door, got me all riled up and gave me a voucher for a new gun and Bible, now I’ve turned crazy against The One’s plan for unicorn doctors and rainbow hospitals. How did they figure it out.
Laura in Maryland on August 4, 2009 at 10:57 PM
Let’s put this in perspective. The media completely missed the importance of the anti-war movement too. Same could also be said for the civil rights movement.
My point is that despite their claims of being ahead of the news, the media is historically not good at analyzing the bigger story. It can run from the absurd where the reporters covering the Space Shuttle Columbia landing in 2003 were suggesting the craft was simply in a hold pattern over the Kennedy Space Center. To the understandable confusion in the immediate aftermath of the 9/11/01 atrocities where they had to fill the air time with something when little was known which led to all sorts of erroneous speculation. To the truly evil ways the media became so partisan that they ignored the truth in order to support a political agenda (the rat bastard traitor filty liar in the White House is a result of this third example).
highhopes on August 4, 2009 at 10:57 PM
It’s not always going to be that way. The way things are headed – the Democrats seem completely willing to continue this drive toward a train wreck by placing their party at odds with the popular will of the people. I mean – they are out there denying that we’re even here – the media is helping.
At some point – this all boils over and someone wins and someone loses. I’m betting the American people will win – just like I’m betting that the Iranian people will eventually win out against their tyrants.
When that happens for us – journalists will be ignored – except the ones that come back to the side of the people.
We are in for some tough times ahead – but we may have an opportunity here to do something spectacular – and it’s all because the Liberals are so hard headed.
More people need to attend these rallys!

An angry mob of “dissenting naysayers” spoiled Rep. Russ Carnahan’s (D. Missouri) self-congratulatory news conference today in St. Louis where he talked about Cash for Clunkers. [The "dissenting naysayers" quote came from Russ himself.]
I was part of the rabid right-wing mob that shouted “Can Carnahan” while the TV cameras inside tried to film his little speech. The car dealership where he spoke wouldn’t let us in (“this is a business, private property”–they actually told us that). Carnahan had his staff lie to the cops and tell them that he would go outside to answer questions when the news conference was finished. Instead, he ran out the back door like a little girl, driving away in his black Suburban SUV. I think if someone had gotten in his way, he would have run them down.
It was another hilarious performance by this tool. July was a bad month for him; we promise a worse August. He’s toast in 2010.

Sounds familiar doesn’t it? All we have to do is look at the fate of Venezuela to see our future folks. We’ve seen this movie before, we know how it ends, the Marxist incrementalism soon overwhelms the nation that does not fight.
Chavez demonizes anyone who criticizes or opposes him by calling them “pitiyanquis” (little wannabe yankees) and keeps the rest of the nation terrorized with his street thugs. Kinda like Obama and his thugs demonizing the nation that opposes him.
This weekend Chavez shut down 34 private radio stations that did not tow the line and sent his goons to physically attack the last independent TV station left (Globovision).
When Obama says “get in their faces” we need to be ready to make them fear us.

It didn’t take all that many people to spoil Russ Carnahan’s day. We had about 50 show up (10:00 a.m. on a weekday)–not bad, since no one heard about this until the day before. We had signs and many, many cars going by honked in support. On the local news video of Carnahan’s speech, you could hear people yelling in the background. It was great. One of the reporters actually asked him how he would respond to the people outside. Essentially his reply was, “If you would stop talking, I’d answer your question” and then he went on with his self-love happytalk.
My point is, it only took a few people to throw this guy off of his game. He was visibly irritated when answering legitimate questions from the reporters, and they saw how he scurried out the back door. This is all good. Never think that only a few people can’t make a difference.

Rick Scott was a founder and CEO of Columbia/HCA, a hospital company.
He is the founder of Conservatives for Patient’s Rights, which opposes OgabeCare.
He was outsted by the board of Columbia HCA when the Feds began an investigation into medicare fraud.
Columbia HCA eventually paid $1.7 billion to the Feds to settle civil charges.
Gibbs is lying about conservatives being bussed in to townhalls. It’s a reflexive lie – that’s what the Left has been doing for 50 years – gathering up inner-city agitators, feeding them lunch, giving them t-shirts and buttons, getting them all fired up.
It’s what community organizers do.

Well, to be honest, I wish that the most prominent organization opposing OgabeCare wasn’t run by a guy like Rick Scott. He’s not in this just for alrtuistic reasons, he still has a lot of financial holdings in healthcare, so it’s easy to demonize grassroots opponents by saying we’re his puppets.
Not true, of course. None of us ever heard of the guy before this, none of us take a nickel or a marching order from him. But for the dumb left and the dumb middle, it’s Halliburton! Halliburton! all over again.

Deeds is indeed a moderate, 2nd amendment Dem. However, he’s waffled on whether he supports Cap’n Trade and his views on healthcare. McDonnell has been pretty clear on both issues which he stridently opposes.
On the Lt. Gov side, Bolling is a pretty popular pol here in Va. The competition is not strong (Jody Wagner), and unless he has a George Allen “macaca” moment, he’ll win hands down.
Of course, November is a long way off, and anything can happen. My money’s on the GOP to sweep the Gov/Lt. Gov races, and also see Cuccinelli win the Atty General office.
Deeds has to be careful, coal is big in southwest Va as well as farming in central to west. He won’t make any friends with a position favoring Cap’n Trade, and will lose the base if he opposes it.

It is another world. The 3rd world. 25% of voters in 2008 were minorities – half of whom the Dems imported over the past several decades.
Add to them the single moms, old Lefties, chronic moochers, government workers, union members, gays, radical feminists and guess what?
A permanent majority.
And a country you don’t even recognize.
guntotinglibertarian on August 4, 2009 at 11:48 PM
Exactly. Polls show that most people oppose ObamaCare. So when the Dems take this line, they are personally attacking the majority of voters.
This is disenfranchisement-squared. The Dems will become vindictive and use citizens opposition as a reason to shove it down our throat. Of course, if they go that road, the GOP better figure out they have a golden issue for 2010 – the need to repeal ObamaCare before it does any more damage.

I’m hoping that Deeds will be stuck between those two realities, and won’t be able to play it one way with his rural base and then say something totaly different up here in Northern Virginia. Plus, I’d really like to see Palin come campaign for Deeds in selected areas with more balanced media. The Shenandoah Valley, Southern and Central Virginia come to mind immediately.
Do you see former Governor Allen as an asset to help Deeds campaign? My guess is he’d be very helpful with fundraising if nothing else.

How quickly dissent has become UN-patriotic!!!
So much for this:

Unless their is a democrat in the White House
It is not the GOP that is “forgetting” about dissent,it is the liberals that want to shut down debate and demonize their opponents because the facts are not on their side.

The left is attempting to quell political dissent and they will say and do anything to accomplish that end.

They ignored us, and we show up in larger numbers.
They demonized us, and we show up in larger numbers.
They start arresting dissidents, and we meet them with a hail of bullets.

And how.
Seriously if that memo is not a clarion call to wake people up to the banana republic thinking going on at the highest levels of the Democrat party, I don’t know what is.
Seriously we need to stop pussyfooting around the issue and just get straight to the throwdown. We all know it’s going to come down to that, the mentalities involved here are completely incompatible.
I know the America I want to live in and it’s not the one envisioned by these leftists turds and their handlers

Are we sure this is not a typo because if you replace “Right wing” with “left wing”,then the facts support this statement:
This was during the campaign:
November 3, 2007:
One year from now, we have the chance to tell all those corporate lobbyists that the days of them setting the agenda in Washington are over. I have done more to take on lobbyists than any other candidate in this race – and I’ve won. I don’t take a dime of their money, and when I am President, they won’t find a job in my White House.
– Barack Obama
This is reality:
Nobody is on the take more with K street than the democrats:

Well at least SOMEONE is reading these BILLS.
Deliberating bills, raking in millions, standing on the steps with the democratic majority leader talking about how much business they will be doing with the Obama administration.
Democrats have taken hypocrisy to a new level in this administration.
EXCLUSIVE: Lobbyists help Dems draft climate change bill

Yes America, ignore the overwhelming facts of the democrats being on the take with special interest groups and lobbyist and focus instead on all of those EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEvil right wing extremist that don’t want government running their lives, high taxes, and to watch this country sink into a socialist failure of governance.

Deny this DNC. . . under Obama’s healthcare plan the elderly will be subjects of cost-effectiveness decisions by the government and can be denied life saving care. Not only that, neither they or their family will be allowed to personally buy the care. Isn’t this a wonderful country? We’re going to kill of our old people to save money and the families are helpless to do anything about it. Obama’s propaganda is irrelevant . . . the only thing that matters is what’s in the legislation that will ultimately become law. So no more obfuscating BS, answer the question.

Well, and indeed, we have been warned of this:
When one party or the other seeks to have government do something ‘good’ to ‘help’ establish a ‘right’, you then pay for that right not only in cash but in your liberty which is protected by the Bill of Rights in Amendments IX and X. And if you can trust such power in the hands of a ‘good’ man or party, would you trust the exact, same power in the hands of someone you don’t trust?
Getting new ‘rights’ from government is to make you beholden TO government for those ‘rights’… which are to be protected from government meddling by Amendments IX and X. Any ‘new’ rights are YOURS not to be interfered with by government. Health care is no ‘right’ but an exercise in liberty and fostering the good of society to form voluntary groups to tend to the poor and needy. When government steps in to assure such a ‘right’ it takes far more than you would ever prudently spend and then seeks to drain your cash and liberty that would normally go to charity because government is just no damned good at providing anythig ‘good’ in a responsible manner.
We did not have the poor keeling over dead in the streets before we subsidized health care via the tax code. Just the opposite: charitable institutions and physicians willing to wait on IOUs allowed the poor and less well off to actually get medical care. The sole exception was the Spanish Flu and my Uncle Ed’s observation when people bring up anything bad that ‘needs’ to be solved was to look out the window and say – ‘it can’t be that bad… no dead people in the street’. He lived through the Spanish Flu epidemic as a child, he had a very, very, very good measuring stick on what a ‘crisis’ is.
Now is the time to speak up and to prepare. Always be ready for an emergency, as you cannot prepare after the fact. Then a good set of protection starts at the Three Line realm, and there accuracy is far more important than numbers. Closer in is where amount comes into play, and 20 for practice is civilized, and 30 more so, and more than that just hard to carry. Then close in every single instance must count…plus the ever present blade that only runs out when you do.
I will see how my fellow Americans feel later in the month after the first real shipments of 45 ACP have now hit the market.
I have my orders in and shipping.
Rather one shot too many, than one too few.
And never, ever let emotions spoil your aim.
We do live in dangerous times where the powerful have grown distant and seek to rule… not govern.

do you think the Congressmen who have a long list of townhalls during the summer will stick to their schedules?
kelley in virginia on August 5, 2009 at 7:59 AM
Only certain sycophantic constituents will be invited. Those who dutifully spout talking points and propaganda of the Administration.
All others are “mobs of extremists” or “right wing haters” or somthing.
And you’d better heel, wingnutz. Otherwise, you’ll be reported to the White House.

Maybe Obambi and his Attorney General can send the black Panthers with their night sticks to town hall meetings. How do you folks who wanted change like this communist socialist state. I got a feeling there is more to come Bambi. Folks are wise to community organizers and thugs from Chicago.

The Left and the Obama administration continually ignore the fact that there were 47 million of us who voted “No You Can’t”. Obama was/is a tabula rasa that people projected onto as far as hope and dreams. Now that the smoke has cleared, many of the 53 million who voted Socialist/Communist are having buyer’s remorse, especially those whose jobs have gone up in that smoke…..
LONG LIVE THE REPUBLIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
