DNC goes nuclear: Mobs of right-wing extremists are attacking our health-care town halls! Flashback: Obama tells cultists to “get in their faces”
posted at 7:25 pm on August 4, 2009 by Allahpundit
Fortuitously timed, coming as it does just one day after we revisited some of the left’s greatest hits in demonizing Bush, McCain, Palin, etc. They’re like the proverbial guy in spectacles who sucker-punches you and then shrieks when you move to retaliate about not hitting a man wearing glasses. Such delicate flowers they are:
Statement from DNC Communications Director Brad Woodhouse on the Republican Party and Allied Groups’ Mob Rule: The Republicans and their allied groups – desperate after losing two consecutive elections and every major policy fight on Capitol Hill – are inciting angry mobs of a small number of rabid right wing extremists funded by K Street Lobbyists to disrupt thoughtful discussions about the future of health care in America taking place in Congressional Districts across the country.
However, much like we saw at the McCain-Palin rallies last year where crowds were baited with cries of ‘socialist,’ ‘communist,’ and where the birthers movement was born – these mobs of extremists are not interested in having a thoughtful discussion about the issues – but like some Republican leaders have said – they are interested in ‘breaking’ the President and destroying his Presidency.
These mobs are bussed in by well funded, highly organized groups run by Republican operatives and funded by the special interests who are desperately trying to stop the agenda for change the President was elected to bring to Washington. Despite the headline grabbing nature of these angry mobs and their disruptions of events, they are not reflective of where the American people are on the issues – or the hundreds of thousands of thoughtful discussions taking place around kitchen tables, water coolers and in homes.
The right wing extremists’ use of things like devil horns on pictures of our elected officials, hanging members of Congress in effigy, breathlessly questioning the President’s citizenship and the use of Nazi SS symbols [Heaven forbid. -- ed.] and the like just shows how outside of the mainstream the Republican Party and their allies are. This type of anger and discord did not serve Republicans well in 2008 – and it is bound to backfire again.
I added the boldface in case the media’s unclear on which words the DNC wants them to emphasize when they’re reading this release on air. Needless to say, this is the left’s pitiful — and ironic, given the lip service paid above to “thoughtful discussion” — strategy to win the ObamaCare debate by framing the GOP as stone-cold nuts before its own message machine gets rolling during the recess this month. Already today, we’ve had Axelrod whining on MSNBC about “fearmongering” (more irony!), Boxer fretting about people in suits “storming” the town halls, and smilin’ Dick Durbin lamenting that “tea baggers” are trying to turn the meetings into “free for alls.” Isn’t that what the left did for years in public meetings about the war, asked Jake Tapper of Gibbs earlier today. You’ll find the answer below. But before you watch, courtesy of Greenroom all-star Karl, a few talking points for the left to use as their “thoughtful discussion” goes forward:
* People who want Congress to take more time debating healthcare are shutting down debate.
* Pres. Obama says the time for talk on healthcare is over, but his critics are trying to shut down debate.
* Harassing and threatening the families of AIG employees is awesome; razzing Representatives and Senators is totally bogus!
* Asking Representatives and Senators to read bills before voting on them is killing democracy.
* Sen. Specter saying “we have to make judgments very fast” is awesome. Booing him for saying so is shutting off debate.
* Healthcare protesters are thugs shutting off debate; antiwar protesters are “rowdy.”
Not “thugs,” Karl. “Mobs” and “extremists.”
Update: I can’t believe I forgot this golden oldie from the campaign trail last September. Thanks to Omri Ceren for reminding me.
The feistier, more sarcastic tone came as worried Democrats urged Obama to get tougher and show more passion. Obama has tried to assure donors and voters that he’s been schooled by Chicago politics…
In Elko, Obama tried to anticipate his critics and called on the crowd of about 1,500 to sharpen their elbows, too.
“I need you to go out and talk to your friends and talk to your neighbors. I want you to talk to them whether they are independent or whether they are Republican. I want you to argue with them and get in their face,” he said.
“And if they tell you that, ‘Well, we’re not sure where he stands on guns.’ I want you to say, ‘He believes in the Second Amendment.’ If they tell you, ‘Well, he’s going to raise your taxes,’ you say, ‘No, he’s not, he’s going lower them.’ You are my ambassadors. You guys are the ones who can make the case.”

Well, I just got back from one of Gene Green’s townhalls. (I missed the bus so had to drive myself there. I guess I won’t get my check from the special interests now.) It was held in an HPD storefront that wasn’t much bigger than a double wide and had to stand outside the room he was in because it was full. No microphones so I didn’t hear much except the people around me talking. And they were talking. Except for another late comer that was adamant that she wanted Obamacare and that the billions that Bush spent on two wars could have paid for it. She said “I can see I’m outnumbered.” Oh and the Republican who is running for Green’s seat in 2010 was there handing out his cards.

I think the angry mob is what they’re going to see when they ram this universal health care through Congress. I have never heard so many otherwise apolitical people express real rage over what Obama and the democrats are trying to do. Honestly, when Congress comes back and pushes this through, I am worried about what will follow. I think it’s going to be very nasty.

I honestly don’t know what these eggheads hope to accomplish. Referring to tax-paying VOTERS, who are already in a state of high-dudgeon, as “astro-turfed right wing extremists” is hardly a recipe for success.
But that’s okay with me. I’d like nothing better than to see Socialist Democrats out on their collective ass in 2010 and 2012. :D

Yes. For the first time in years, the GOP has a 5 point advantage in the generic Congressional ballot, according to Rasmussen Reports. And even though Obama’s overall approval remains high, opposition to many of Obama’s economic proposals, including health care, are tumbling. So, Obama and the Democrats are in bind. Either Congressional Democrats cave in an attempt to save their jobs, making Obama a loser and failure in his first year, so the joke’s on him, or they suppress opposition just enough to get these bills through Congress, and the polling numbers dive yet further for 2010, so the Joker‘s on him. In the meantime, we can continue our opposition to these economically deadly proposals and:
Hope for Change in 2010!
Yes we can!

Remember the “palm pilot riot” at the Palm Beach election commission office?
(A small, orderly group of citizens, concerned about voter fraud in the aftermath of the 2000 election, went to the election commision office to protest.
They were a “mob,” too.
Remember when the audience at a McCain/Palin rally was accused of yelling “kill him?” [refering to Obama.]
(The US Secret Service says no such thing happened.)
They were a “mob,” too.
But, the Tea Parties were reported as “small groups” of protesters…

I like the angry mobs. After being pissed off at much of the stuff that Bush did I was angrier that leftist protests are limp wristed exercises in arts and crafts. Nothing puts the fear of “god” into corrupt politicians more than paper mache and puppet shows. Oh no not the drum circles. I like the right wing protests, they’re angry like protesters should be. People should be polite to normal people but they shouldn’t be polite to politicians, its still very tame, they used to tar and feather people, nothing like that goes on today….yet sometimes I wonder if it should.
Government takeover of health care is no joke, this needs to be stopped and never tried again by any means necessary and anything that can tap into the angry sentiment is good, since even nonpolitical people are sick and tired of Washington in general. If they get this through we will have crossed a line that we could never retreat from, they never get rid of the stuff they take over, the only way it well ever go back is bankruptcy or massive loss of wealth, which isn’t totally impossible by any means.

Speedwagon82 on August 4, 2009 at 10:39 PM
Some are saying we shouldn’t shout these idiots down and we should listen to them and “engage” them in some sort of intellectual fashion.
My problem with that is this …
The Media is ignoring the biggest movement since the Anti-war protests of the Vietnam era. There has been nothing to rival this since the 60′s.
10,000 people show up at a Tea Party event – they claim it’s only 200-300. Two hundred people shout down a Congressman – they claim it’s 20 guys bussed in by insurance companies.
You don’t argue intellectually with that. If they are going to deny your existence – there is only one way to get them to hear you …
SHOUT LOUDER!

I don’t think you realize the implications here. I have a family member who needed immediate treatment for a life threatening condition. I am a person of modest means but that person was admitted immediately and the life saving treatment began immediately. That will not happen under rationed socialized obamacare. Obama voted to leave babies to die of starvation, exposure and dehyrdation when he was a state senator. When people start to lose loved ones things will heat up.
also, the other thing you lefties don’t understand. Alinsky is bullying tactics. Just like the wimpy high school bullies. Alinsky tactics don’t account for an in kind response. When I was in high school I dealt with bullies. One guy had my ring imprint clear as day on his face for a week. Another guy went through a lath wall and out the other side. One idiot tried a switchblade which I grabbed, folded and handed back to him. In all instances the bullies were cowards. The tough kids who could have cleaned my clock easily were not the bullies.
So, try Alinsky tactics on us. You had better read up on the MAD doctrine before you do. When government lackies like “Single Bullet” Sphincter and “Friend of Murtha” Murphy start attacking us for speaking our mind, we will not bend to Alinsky.

If the DNC is screaming, America is winning.
Which has a lot to do with the ugliness of the progressive agenda and just how fed up with it Americans are and very little to do with anything else.
