Three videos show why ObamaCare is in trouble

If anyone questioned why Barack Obama and Nancy Pelosi wanted to get a health-care reform bill passed before the August recess, the following videos will explain it clearly.  In three town-hall meetings with Democratic denizens of Capitol Hill, crowds reacted angrily to a government takeover of health care.  In the first, Rep. Keith Ellison moves through the crowd in his very liberal district taking comments — but not answering any of his constituents’ questions (via Janet at SCSU Scholars):

The reaction in this clip is almost universally negative, and downright hostile. When one man reads a prepared question asking Ellison whether he’d put forego his “Cadillac plan” as a Congressman and put his family on ObamaCare, Ellison plays emcee rather than answer it — and another constituent loudly demands his response.

Rep. Lloyd Doggett’s crowd was even more hostile in his Blue Dog district of Texas (via Power Line and John Lott):

Back in Central Texas while Congress is on a month-long recess, U.S. Rep. Lloyd Doggett faced an angry audience at a town hall meeting at an Austin Randalls grocery store Saturday.

Doggett, D-Austin, spoke at the store at Brodie and Slaughter lanes. A video of the event on YouTube shows that many in the crowd had signs denouncing President Barack Obama’s proposed health care plan.

Witnesses said that when Doggett was asked whether he would support the plan even if he found that his constituents opposed it, Doggett said he would. People then began chanting “just say no” and overwhelmed the congressman as he moved through the crowd and into the parking lot.

Meanwhile, back in Pennsylvania, newly-minted Democrat Arlen Specter finds out that Pennsylvanians don’t much care for the rush to have government pass bills that their representatives don’t read. HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius doesn’t help much when she tries to defend the honor of people like John Conyers (via Michelle):

The administration knew that supporters of ObamaCare would encounter not just opposition, but outright anger once they returned to face their constituents. They wanted to ram ObamaCare through Congress before constituents had a chance to have their say. Specter and Doggett would have expected to hear resistance among their constituents, but Ellison perhaps was the most surprised. MN-05 is as safely Democratic and liberal as any seat in Congress (which is why Ellison, an acolyte of Louis Farrakhan, won the seat in the first place). If a Democrat gets a hostile reception in MN-05, it’s just about akin to Nancy Pelosi getting booed in San Francisco.

If Pelosi and Obama had a tough time holding the Blue Dogs before the recess, they will have a lot more headaches when Congress returns in September — and hopefully a lot more skeptics as well.

The jerk walked around that hall like he was a reporter listening to the public complaining about the conduct of a legislative body that he wasn’t a part of. After hearing one guy rip into the health care plan Ellison supports, Ellsion says “Thank you” and moves on to the next complaint.

They think we are fools and they treat us like fools.

Surprise. Surprise. Add VA’s senators to those hiding from their constituents. Sen. Webb won’t return calls re: town halls (not that he ever really did) and Sen. Warner will be “vacationing w/ family” or has a “very busy schedule”. However, the little intern did not know what was on the schedule, but he will be busy doing it. To kelley in virginia: did you see the polls for the Governor’s race? I have renewed hope for our state.

That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness

And yes, I know you were being sarcastic, but any chance to quote the Declaration of Independence is a good thing. BTW, have you looked at the facts provided by the founding fathers for rebellion from Britain? You could apply most of them to the 0bama administration.

We have fourteen months to rebuild Conservatism in America.

Make these next fourteen months count. Let your Congress critter know exactly what you believe, what you will tolerate and what you will never tolerate. Let them know this week and next week, next month and often from now till election day 2010. Campaign for those who are willing to answer that call for level-headed Conservatism, and campaign against those who, like the Congress critters in the videos, couldn’t care less about what their constituents demand.

2010 is our best shot at stopping the Obamanation.

Blow this one and 2012 will be a lot worse for all of us…except for those who are depending on Obama paying their mortgage, or taking what is yours and making it theirs.

Let’s stop this thing. We owe at least that much to our kids and grandkids.

i love this…but too bad it is already hardwired. Obama is not a stupid organizer. He co-opted Pharma (which is running ads with FamiliesUSA), AMA and big businesses (like Walmart) thru fear and perks, carrots and sticks.

So the business community is not there to help. The Dems have the counts, so the blue dogs will fold their hand once thery’ve extracted enough $$$$ from Pelosi/Reid.

The the public option will pass. Obama, the Left, the staterunmedia will mark this as the most historic day in 70 years. Obama will then assend to be the new FDR.

That’s an interesting word to use.

Either the implication is that the people in these townhalls were not constituents of the Reps and Senators holding the meeting. Or, your implication is that Republicans aren’t allowed to attend townhalls to talk to the people that are in Washington D.C. to represent their interests.

If the former, you should provide evidence. If the latter, you should go to a library and start studying up on a little thing we like to call “representative democracy”.

This is why the 2 VA senators are going on vacation and will not talk to their constituents. They can’t wait to vote for this thing. I know they are getting lots of grief about it. There are state petitions that are being signed and passed around to be sent to Richmond by Americans for Prosperity. The Republican candidate for Governor is way far ahead of his Dem. opponent. They don’t care. They will most likely vote for it. Talk about frustrating. It’s all about control not health care.

yep…and if Obama’s sense of justice as demonstrated by his attitude that “profits” by private business should be reigned in and the wealthy should pay penalty taxes prevails, the more you make, the more you pay will guide health care. in essence, middle income people will be forced to pay almost everything out of pocket (private health companies will not be an option despite the promises) while illegals and “chronically unemployed” (chosen lifestyle)will get the care you used to get only you will be paying for it…along with your own care.

Obama is not here to represent you or improve your life….he is here to settle scores and redistribute your hard earned dollars and future to the chosen classes. When his green policies hit at exactly the same time his taxes on the middle class begin to create a crunch on the backbone of the economy…blue collar workers and working professionals….energy will become unaffordable. But not to worry, the government will be there to subsidize your gas and electricity…..for those making $30,000 or less.

Chavez Takes Control of Venezuela’s Largest Coffee Plants

CARACAS, Venezuela — The government of President Hugo Chavez has seized control of two of Venezuela’s largest coffee processing plants and threatens to expropriate the businesses.

Commerce Minister Eduardo Saman says officials suspect that Fama de America and Madrid might be illegally smuggling coffee out of the country to sell it at higher prices.

Coffee is subject to strict government price controls in Venezuela.

If investigations reveal violations of the law, Saman says officials will “propose the expropriation” of the plants.

Authorities took control of the plants on Monday.

Hmmmmm….

I wonder who else is currently “expropriating” private businesses under the guise of corrective action?

CARACAS, Aug 1 (Reuters) – More than a dozen of 34 radio stations ordered shut by the Venezuelan government went off the air on Saturday, part of President Hugo Chavez’s drive to extend his socialist revolution to the media.
The association of radio broadcasters said 13 stations had stopped transmitting, following an announcement Friday night by government broadcasting watchdog Conatel that 34 radio outlets would be closed because they failed to comply with regulations.
Critics said the crackdown infringed on freedom of speech and that owners were not given the right to a proper defense.
“They’re closing the space for dissidents in Venezuela,” William Echeverria, head of the National Council of Journalists, told RCTV, a private cable TV station, which did not have its broadcasting license renewed in 2007.
Chavez defended the closures, calling them part of the government’s effort to democratize the airwaves.

Once again, I challenge any and all who believe that government-run healthcare is a good idea to the following simple test:

1. Make up a question on healthcare (any question will do). It is preferable to ask a serious life-and-death question which could (or has) affected your family and/or yourself personally.

2. Dial 1-800-MEDICARE and do what you must contact a live human to get an answer. Time this process from first dialing to its conclusion (hint: make sure you have access to plenty of food and water and make sure you visit the bathroom before trying this).

3. Report your results back to this forum, and tell us again why you think government-run health care is a good idea.

This is how angry people have to get to get their leaders to begin to recognize it.
They have to practically riot to get them to notice and to get them to “shift” their views….not change, but shift.
So all they need to do is “water” it down, and pass it in stages.
If they do it a piece at a time, the people, like the frog in boiling water, will adapt and accept it.

The Ellison video is telling. He didn’t answer the question because he knew he didn’t have to. People just wanted to vent, so he let them and they did.

This bill will pass. 2010 will be too late.

I got about 1 sentance into that article before I wanted to scream. Schumer is vowing to pass ObamaCare without Republicans.

He’s got his 60 person super majority. He can pass it without Republicans at any moment, ASSUMING every single Democrat senator is on board.

They continue to blame Republicans for keeping things from passing when they have the majorities they need in house and senate to pass anything they please. Instead of blaming Republicans, why don’t they say what they really mean, “We’re going to pass it on the sly because the Blue Dogs won’t vote for this crap because they’d like to get reelected.”

They’re practical. None of them want to get their asses handed to them in a primary. All of them are going back with some serious self-survivial considerations to mull over.

It is about at this point that this stops being a government “Of the people, by the people and for the people”.

If they pass the Health Care Takeover Bill despite the growing anger among the populace about it and despite the complete lack of support for such a move in The Constitution of The United States of America, then they will be no better than the tyranny which our Founding Fathers fought in order to establish this great nation.

I am sure the rest of the politicians have security all around them to protect them as they stand on their stages looking down on the cattle! The thing is,, we can’t go into these politicians homes! We can’t screw with their lives the way they do with us! Who is there to protect us from them????!!
From Washington DC and from the comfort and security of their offices with a single vote they can come into our bedrooms,,, into our kitchens, into our living rooms,, they can force themselves into our bank accounts and into our doctor’s offices! They can rob and steal and call it the law!
Now they also want the power to literally deny us the health care we may need to save our lives!!!
What gives these people the right??? Who are they?? Are they not just people who won an election! Mere mortals who convinced more slobs to vote for them than did the other guy,,?? yet having won that election they act as gods! Kings and queens ordained from the heavens with wisdom beyond our understanding!!!

What a boor! How rude can you get?

I’ve have been posting about the subject of requiring the bill to include language mandating federal government participation in the “public option” since the evening of the President’s press conference.

He was specifically asked about Congress and himself at the press conference by Steven Thomma of McClatchy, by the way, and Obama slipped the question. Thomma wasn’t even supposed to be called on (Obama called out Steve Koff’s name but Steve Thomma jumped up) in that carefully orchestrated presser. Obama obviously didn’t know either one of them, and he pointed to Thomma, which is the only reason why he got to ask that question.

After the President rambled on a bit, here was Thomma’s follow up:

Q: And what about yourself and Congress? Would you abide by the same benefits package?

Still no specific response, except a joke about why it really could not apply to him as President, as he claimed he has doctors following him around everywhere.

I specifically suggested in a post that night a draft of an amendment to the healthcare legislation, requiring that all Members of Congress (as well as all officers and employees of the federal government) get the “public option” instead of the current Cadillac coverage they all have.

The language would specifically allow them to purchase any additional coverage they want, entirely at their own expense, of course. That post contained an embedded video of a town meeting held by first-term Representative Russ Carnahan (D-MO), who was moving right along citing his stats, until his constituents actually began openly laughing at some of his statements. Then some fellow in the back of the room slipped him the shiv . . . asking,

If it’s so good, why doesn’t Congress have to be on it?

Indeed! The look on Carnahan’s face and the looks on the faces of his staff tell the tale, as everyone in the room began to cheer the question!

I also posted about the fact that the stated legislative purposes of the bill (HR-3200) coordinate very nicely with such a federal requirement. Maybe the Legislators refuse to read the bill, but now that there is a public version, some of us should begin wading through its provisions.

Sunday, the Los Angeles Times did a good story which details some of the great benefits the Congress and federal officials currently have, and the costs to us!
