LA Weekly wets itself over Obama/Joker poster: “The only thing missing is a noose”

posted at 6:57 pm on August 3, 2009 by Allahpundit

Hey, remember when it was cool to demonize the president, or even the presidential or vice-presidential nominee? Sarahcuda had been on the national stage for all of eight weeks last year before she got the rabid vampire treatment. Ah well. Change has come to America — and to the LA Weekly. Click here and be amazed at the hypocrisy of which our intellectually superior progressive betters are capable.

As for the “noose” reference, I can almost forgive that as irresistible knee-jerk leftist racial demagoguery in the age of Obama. Here was Chris Matthews pulling the same thing on Michelle on his weekend show:

CHRIS MATTHEWS: Welcome back, six months after President Obama’s inauguration, racial comments from the far right have worked their way from below the surface to open season. Take the birthers, the group that’s on the Internet and TV claiming that Barack Obama’s birth certificate is phony, that he was really born in Kenya and that week-long flap over the Harvard professor’s arrest was used by other voices on the far right as an excuse to push this stuff about the President.

(Begin clips)

GLENN BECK: This president I think that exposed himself as a guy over and over and over again who has a deep-seated hatred for white people or the white culture. I don’t know what it is.

MICHELLE MALKIN: Well I think he’s a racial opportunist, he took that moment, used a health care conference that was a debacle basically and took this story, which is really just a local parochial law enforcement story to try and insure some sort of moment of his racial authenticity.

RUSH LIMBAUGH: This is something that diminishes the office of the presidency. He, this is, it’s all about him. It’s all about him trying to say and illustrate that he can bring about the end to this racial divide when he was the one that caused all this.

(End clips)

MATTHEWS: Gene is all this dangerous? This new flappery, this nonsense talk that is coming out here?

EUGENE ROBINSON, WASHINGTON POST COLUMNIST: You know, you and I have talked in the past about dog whistle politics.

MATTHEWS: Right.

ROBINSON: This is train whistle politics.

Minor problem #1: As previously noted, Obama is a racial opportunist and not a particularly subtle one at times. Listening to Reverend Wright for 20 years will do that to a man, I guess. If Chrissy finds acknowledging that “dangerous,” there’s an easy solution: Get Obama to stop being such a jackass racial opportunist. Minor problem #2: His attack is framed in the context of Birtherism, as part of a broader “look how kooky they’ve become” lament. Did he bother to mention that Michelle expressly repudiated the Birther crap in a column last year, something which even Media Matters felt compelled to acknowledge?

But back to the poster. I think it’s stupid and was surprised to find that a bunch of other righties on Twitter agree. What’s the point, exactly? I didn’t see “Dark Knight;” was the Joker into socialism? Murder, mayhem, and deficit spending? Wasn’t his salient characteristic the fact that he was … a homicidal maniac? I realize we’re supposed to put nothing past The One but that seems a bridge too far. If people are hot for posters, why not just photoshop that “HOPE” image to make it say “BROKE”?

Wait until ZeroBama rolls out his “Youth in Asia” initiative as part of his socialist nationalized healtcare plan. Seniors will be invited on a trip to China or North Korea to reclaim their lost youth. Then BLAMMO!!

The “Joker” poster will of course be PERFECT for that initiative!

I didn’t at first, then I realized it when the Iranian election happened. Since, I’ve realized it’s a very effective way to give and receive messages – it’s like a non-stop blog with lots and lots of conservatives. It’s like a low friction FreeRepublic with a better UI when you use Tweetdeck.

It is man’s basic nature to communicate constantly and in every manner possible. That is why so very few methods have ever been truly obsoleted. Twitter is low friction communication.

What a bitter disappointment your comment is for me. The poster represents a caricature of chaos. This poster is symbolic of the quintessence of Obama. The chaos of the astroturfing misinformation to the masses with the assistance of a compliant state run media. The economic chaos of the stimulus, cap & trade, Obamascare and whatever else this anti-capitalist will propose in order to remake America into a socialistic utopia.

Americannodash on August 4, 2009 at 2:36 AM

Racist.

Mr Purple on August 4, 2009 at 6:40 AM

There is nothing in my comment or in this poster that is based on racial intolerance. My comment correlates to the concept of chaos which is representive in this poster and Obama’s strategy to overwhelm every aspect of the American system. Being called “racist” by you is a fallacy whereas, the term “chaos” relates to the extreme confusion and disorder inflicted by someone who continues to saturate the airwaves with the “us versus them” inductive argument. It is by these types of inferences Obama tries to find and identify a villain. In every instance [stimulus, government take over of the banks, car makers, C&T & Obamascare] or fabricated crisis Obama damages the private sector and increases the size of government.

——————————-

You should not go through life trying to find the victim or by playing the victim card. You should not go through life trying to find the villain behind every circumstance when in most cases there never was a villain. The likelyhood of making the wrong choices in your life is no ones fault but your own. It is what freedom is all about so….be an adult, take ownership for your decisions & resposibilty of your actions.

Begin your life afresh and start that life with the premise of judging a person by the merits & actions of their character and not the color of their skin.

Americannodash on August 4, 2009 at 11:18 AM

anyone who cringes at this poster doesn’t have the stones for the fight to come. The poster bites because it has truth in it. Allah can’t see it because he hasn’t watched the movie. And he tweets. I can’t think of two more damning self-condemnations in a single post. Allah help himself.

Immolate on August 4, 2009 at 7:42 AM

You’re dead on but by condemning a technology and a network you haven’t had much experience with, you make a similar mistake. The people Allah follows and who in turn follow him, are, in large part, just like him. You know becuase it’s transparent by design. Some of the most hard-core conservatives I think I’ve ever come across are on Twitter.

TheBigOldDog on August 4, 2009 at 11:18 AM

Twitter is like FreeRepublic in its democratization of posting stories. There’s no need to send email or kiss some gatekeepers a$$ to cover a story you think fellow conservatives should know about. With Twitter, the message is across the Globe at the speed of light.

TheBigOldDog on August 4, 2009 at 11:22 AM

The joker was an anarchist intent on destroying everything that made society what it was, and therein lies the parallel to Obama. While he is not an anarchist, he is an Alinskyite, sewing discord and encouraging chaos, so he can take advantage of the crisis. He is actively trying to destroy the dominance of the private sector by refusing to enact policies that will end the uncertainty and chaos, while he transfers trillions to the public sector.

Anarchy is never an end, it is a means. It cannot exist over time, a tyranny always rises to fill the void. Obama has thus far used crisis to nationalize the banks, the auto industry, and is working on nationalizing the health care and energy industries. And he is doing so using chaos.

The analogy is spot on if you ask me.

American Elephant on August 4, 2009 at 3:14 AM

Well said. I hope your concise post, the Psychology Today Article I posted yesterday, and the other encapsulations of the character by posters have helped Allah understand.

Go rent the movie Allah. It’s agonising how the Joker uses Batman’s & Harvey Dent’s virtues against them. Dent breaks and becomes pure Randomness embodied in the character of Two-Face. His chaos is a collapse into utter insanity and total loss of humanity.

Excerpt from new edition out of “Hollywood Worldviews” by Brian Godawa(film script writer) on “The Dark Knight”

The Dark Knight is the most successful movie adaptation of a graphic novel. If Superman represents the goodness of divinity in its purity, then Batman represents the dark side of that divinity as an angst-ridden deeply flawed hero in a morally confused postmodern world. Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight also proves that superhero movies are not all light entertainment, but can be among the most soul-searching, thought-provoking metaphysical explorations into the meaning of life and morality. The Batman, a scientific crime fighter, as opposed to a supernatural superhero, seeks to maintain a moral code while fighting the ultimate agent of chaos, the Joker. But in this morally ambiguous universe, that moral task appears impossible and no one is clean, not even the Batman. He must torture a terrorist in order to save innocent lives, violate his jurisdiction by entering foreign countries to snatch criminals, and illegally wiretap an entire city to catch the Joker – all timely issues of justice that reflect the very ones debated in America’s War on Terror (an obvious metaphor of the movie). In a way, The Dark Knight subverts the superhero paradigm by asking the question whether or not so much power should be vested in the hands of individual men. It challenges our notions of our moral views of the world and our own goodness. But at the end, in a Christ-like substitutionary atonement, the Batman takes the blame for crimes he did not commit in order to protect a positive legacy of law enforcement for the people. The Batman is rejected by the very world he has saved.

THOUSANDS of the worst families in England are to be put in “sin bins” in a bid to change their bad behaviour, Ed Balls announced yesterday.

The Children’s Secretary set out £400million plans to put 20,000 problem families under 24-hour Closed Circuit TV super-vision in their own homes.

They will be monitored to ensure that children attend school, go to bed on time and eat proper meals…

A species of republicans who hover conspicuously “Above the Fray” seeking to confirm in themselves the positive character traits that many believe belong to the ones up there: detached, objective, free-thinking, cultivated…

These would be the Romney/Pawlenty type supporters. I.e. people who just want Obama to “slow down”, linguini spined Republicans.

and a species that looks at the edgy new attacks and says, as Rush said yesterday, “About Damn Time!”

Right, sure. He just questioned their competence. Sure. So why did the President of the United States decide to get involved in the arresting of a black professor? Hmmmm… do you think maybe… it had to… with RACE!?!?!?!?

Not convinced? Dude, have you even read any of Gates’ ramblings on the matter? “Waah, racial profiling, poor me, waaah,” sums it up. He certainly believes it was about race. Is it really that much of a stretch to suggest a community agitator like Obama might believe the same?

Uh huh.
In reporting on the rates at which Blacks and Whites commit interracial crime, this report divides the number of crimes by the population to determine crimes per 100,000 population. Data on Black and White U.S. populations were obtained from the 1994 U.S. Census Bureau reports. The data show there was more Black-on-White violent crime than Black-on-Black violent crime in the years examined. Of the 1,700,000 interracial crimes of violence that involved Blacks and Whites, 90 percent were committed by Blacks against Whites; Blacks were thus 250 times more likely to commit violence against Whites than Whites against Blacks. Blacks committed violent crimes at four to eight times the rate of Whites, and Hispanics committed violent crimes at approximately three times the rate of Whites. Violent crimes by Asians were one-half to three-quarters the rate of Whites. Regarding hate crimes, Blacks were twice as likely as Whites to commit them. Although the FBI’s Uniform Crime Reports distinguished Hispanics as hate-crime victims, Hispanics were not distinguished as perpetrators of hate crimes, as they were included under the racial category of “White.” As a means of emphasizing the importance of examining race as a factor in the analysis of violent crime, the report notes that Blacks are much more violent than Whites as men are more violent than women.

US Dept of Justice/National Criminal Justice Reference Service

Maybe Obooba should weigh in on these inconvenient troofs, instead of risking a race riot by interfering with a policeman doing his job.

They could really spark sales by doing a ‘Buy one, send one to the White House’ type thing…

Nice….

Blame it all on Bush; He was made up as the Joker first!

Cybergeezer on August 4, 2009 at 9:22 PM

That picture is using his DoD one. I have to see that in military buildings all the time(minus the makeup). He looks like an arrogant doofus.

I like the poster, it’s a great piece of satire. Satire is a great from of dissent. Once we eliminate satire (and subsequently dissent) then this country will be in some serious shit.

Cr4sh Dummy on August 5, 2009 at 4:59 AM

We must stamp out all dissent of Our leader. Our leader must only be pictured as god-like, loved by the masses. Contact the U.S. Dept. of Propaganda, 1600 Pennsylvania Av,Wash.D.C. if you see ant further disrespect of Our Leader.

A very good likeness!

Someone should sell posters and get rich.

they will appear everywhere.

How can you not have seen the Dark Knight AP? Jeez louise.

I agree with the burning money connection.

Perfectly legitimate discourse. I love the fact that the hippies are all in a tizzy over this while they were giggling like school kids over pics of Bush as a chimp, vampire, devil, and the joker.

It’s fantastic that it’s going viral – keep it going and get yourself a sticker: http://www.cafepress.com/PalysClown

Perfect.

What I like is how the LA Weekly did the same thing to George W Bush on their cover

Why so Srs LA weekly?

karasoth on August 5, 2009 at 1:37 PM

Great poster. Yeah, I mean, Obambi is an anarchist of sorts. He loves flaming America, that’s for sure. I think he should be as free game as “chimpy” Bush was. Call me petty, but I do believe that what goes around comes around. And that that ain’t a bad thing.
