Wow: Black cop in Gates arrest sends letter to Obama about being called an “Uncle Tom”; Update: Lashley goes after Gates in full letter

posted at 8:29 pm on July 30, 2009 by Allahpundit

Initially I thought Crowley was a bit of a chump to join in The One’s photo op after being smeared by him. But now I think it was all worth it.

A black sergeant who was at the home of Harvard scholar Henry Louis Gates Jr. when he was arrested says he’s been maligned as an “Uncle Tom” for supporting the actions of the white arresting officer.

Cambridge Sgt. Leon Lashley gave a letter to Sgt. James Crowley to give to President Barack Obama during their so-called beer summit with Gates on Thursday night at the White House.

In the letter, which was also sent to CNN, Lashley says Gates “may have caused grave and potentially irreparable harm to the struggle for racial harmony.”

If you’re unclear on what he means by racial harmony, watch this. I checked CNN to try to find a copy of the full letter but neither they nor the AP appear to have published it (yet). Has anyone seen it? I’m curious to know which other truths were spoken to power here.

Oh, on a completely unrelated note, if you missed the clip of Michelle talking with InstaGlenn about all the racial cracks she got this week for being an Obama-criticizing race traitor, you’ll find it at PJTV.

Update: Pundit Review has video from CNN of Don Lemon reading Lashley’s full letter, which points squarely to Gates as the wrongdoer in all this. Good for him for not letting the demagoguery scare him into backing down. Click the image to watch.

Sgt. Lashley should have been invited to the beer summit. I guess that it wouldn’t have given the one any racial cover.

Don’t expect CNN to give it any prominence, if they actually do publish it. Soledad O’Brien was dumping all over Crowley when this story initially broke, saying that he “made” Gates come outside and continue talking, so that Crowley would have an excuse to arrest him, since Gates clearly hadn’t done anything wrong (other than being a black man in racist America). O’Brien didn’t even make a pretense of objectivity. Reminded me of Anderson Cooper and his snickering condescension during the Tea Party protests. CNN’s just another propaganda arm of the Obama administration.

Sgt. Lashley’s letter speaks volumes about his own character.

Unfortunately, in suggesting that Gates ask himself those questions, he should realize that Gates WANTS to perpetuate his race hustling ways, and he certainly doesn’t want to mitigate any damage done to police officers.

Obama and Gates both share the same opinion about police officers.

Looks like Gates just picked the wrong bunch of people to spew his racist hatred upon. Good. Maybe he’ll think next time before he starts in on someone else. Imagine — just imagine — the earthquake that would occur if everyone who is cavalierly called a racist by these race-hustling, money-grubbing frauds like Gates fought back with the same graceful tenacity. I think a whole bunch of them are going to feel just a little bit more comfortable saying “Oh no you didn’t” next time someone spews that epithet at them. And I think that is why Gates and Obama are so damn scared. They went too far, pushed the bounds of decency too far, and in the process drove a stake through the heart of the bogus race grievance industry from which they have profited their entire lives.

I think Sgt Crowley did the right thing. First, I believe (heard on TV) that HE was the one who suggested they get together for a beer. Even if he didn’t, it shows his respect for the Presidency that he attended, and made only brief general comments at the press conference folwing tonight’s get-together. I’d venture a guess that Crowley felt that he was going on behalf of all police officers, that he represented them on some level.

I love how the Left has fanned the flames of this whole issue (from the very top down apparently). They were probably hoping for race riots.

Haven’t bought this ‘racial equality’ stuff for years. Whites are supposed to bow down to minorities and recognize their superiority as part of the Leftist ideology that’s been gaining ground in this country, Western Europe and amongst the power elite of the U.N.

Race and ethnicity shouldn’t matter one way or another to be sure. But it’s only those of white European descent who are expected to tow the PC line, and there is no dearth of white folk who will jump on another white if they even think they’re saying something racist.

Let me clue in the white PC police-there are bigots amongst minorities and no matter how much you stick up for them and cry over them they will still hate you.

Also, if we want to further the conversation, we have to be willing to talk with those who do not want to go forward. Crowley’s actions demonstrate racial harmony, as do the actions of his colleagues. They realize MLK’s dream of character, not skin color. As Obama would say, “We are the ones the racial conversation has been waiting for.” ;-)

Actually, Crowley delivering Lashey’s letter to Obama goes a long way towards explaining why press secretary Robert Gibbs was so restrained in his comments after the meeting. I think most people were expecting the spin to be something on the line of this meeting being the equivalent of Obama bringing world peace, but obviously the White House knew that Crowley had not allowed himself to be used as just a photo op, and the story was going to continue after the meeting was over.

For what…being called an Uncle Tom? Give me a break. he should cry me a river.

I want to know how Gates is responsible for him being called an Uncle Tom.

By accusing Crowley of racism, Lashley looks like an “uncle tom” by denying the alleged racism and defending Crowley.
