Video: Michelle discusses Obama’s “racial opportunism” on … the Today show
posted at 10:12 am on July 29, 2009 by Allahpundit
Here’s that intriguing morning appearance I teased in Monday’s Hannity post. A bunch of you thought I was talking about “The View,” which broke my heart because how awesomely awesome would that have been? Ah well. Enjoy Lauer affecting shock at the idea that a guy who tried to prove his “authenticity” by spending 20 years in Reverend Wright’s Church of the Perpetual Grievance, who once famously accused Team McCain of having a problem with the fact that he doesn’t look like the other presidents on U.S. currency, and who was known to reference “Malcolm X” while addressing black audiences on the campaign trail might possibly be guilty of racial opportunism. Although, in The One’s defense, what kind of progressive would he be if he wasn’t?
Best part: The boss lighting into Michelle Obama for her history of cronyism, much to Matt’s horror. Be sure to watch to the very end or you’ll miss the look on his face as he wraps the segment. I’m guessing she wasn’t booked at his insistence.

Yeah, it gets old. But the left has been doing it for years and years, so I think it is healthy to let off a little steam every once in while. After a while, everybody settles down and remembers that we really aren’t like the leftists and our decency gets the best of us.

You’re wrong. Read what actually happened, nitwit.

dcwvu:
If it was okay for you righteous progressives to tag Bush as the “ChimpyMcBusHitler”, it’s surely fair “equality” for the Great Speechless TOTUS to be tagged “OranguBamaLinsky”, no?
On a comparative primate-to-primate ideology basis …. No race, same species.
To all:
Per the “Human Events” weblog, our rational and articulate Michelle will be sparring with the harridans of “The View” on Monday …. that is, if they don’t retract the invite pronto after seeing the Lauer splatter on the floor.
Mojamaiko on July 29, 2009 at 12:40 PM
After seeing the interview live, I posted elsewhere (Twitter – different user name) that it was not the face he made, it was the “You can’t be serious” tone of his voice that annoyed me. It’s the same tone I hear from friends as they say, “You can’t really be a conservative.”
Michelle (and BTW why can’t the media, including Fox, pronounce Malkin correctly?) made her points forcefully without being overbearing. She came to play.`
Lauer was simply outclassed. In his defense, he did not (as many others would have) resort to trying to interrupt her or shout her down. He took his beating like a (beta) man.

Thanks for the info. I just went and read about it. Hadn’t heard it before so thanks. But you would be incorrect if you had referred to her as the ‘First Murderer’ since she caused the death accidentally. So therefore you cannot even make an honest analogy when making an argument.

Lauer felt a tingle go down his leg…unfortunately it was last nights dinner. You go MM!
David in ATL on July 29, 2009 at 12:49 PM
Yeah, not a lot about that story that implies “murder”, whereas we know for a fact that when Michelle Obama left her $300K/year job, the hospital didn’t hire anyone to replace her, making it obvious that it was a do-nothing/political payoff job.

Matt not often faces someone so much more intelligent then him. Ususally they make sure he has the “gotcha” questions, and they don’t put people like Michelle up against light weights like Matt.
She was concise, to the point, and Matt was totally confused and bewildered.
I would love to see Michelle take each of these clowns down, for a good 15 minutes, and not a few minutes.
She has to be the most feared guest.
BTW, she is identified as a “Conservative columnist”, Michelle should have quickly shot back, and being interviewed by a liberal commentator.

That was time well spent! Michelle was great! No wonder liberals hate her.

That would be the job where she saw her income almost double once BO became a senator, while her actual responsibilites never changed. The same job that gave rise to BO giving her employer a $1m earmark. The same job that caused MO to work with others in medicare patient dumping. Say it isn’t so……MO is part of the Culture of Corruption in Chicago? BO would throw her under the bus if he was comfident the back tires could climb over her trunk.
David in ATL on July 29, 2009 at 12:58 PM
Umm…Laura was 17 and hit another car at an intersection. It was an accident. Yes, the other driver died, but this was not murder, and she was only 17. No correlation whatsoever to the Michelle Obama mentality.
jediwebdude on July 29, 2009 at 1:00 PM
Michelle, take me with you next time and when matt makes that face at the end I’ll slap him and tell him to speak his mind if he has the cojones instead of acting like a child. These low life tv people know to always get the last shot in even if, as in this case, it is nonverbal. About a month ago Liz Cheney was on with that blonde hag whose name I can’t remember because she isn’t important enough and the woman could not give a cognizant intelligent rebuttal to anything Cheney said. But at the last second she made a smarmy condescending remark and was going to end the interview on that note but Liz did not let her. Cheney pointed out that her tactic was unfair and then tore it apart with truth and reason.
peacenprosperity on July 29, 2009 at 1:00 PM
The “boss” did an excellent job. She ran the interview, she didn’t allow Matt to push her in a corner. Although, I noticed that Matt prefered to try keep her off topic by not taking about the book until the last few minutes into the interview. He didn’t want to give Michelle too much time to expose the truth. Michelle is the picture of good journalism and she’s got it all over fakers like Lauer. She allows her morals to guide her, and isn’t paid off like the cronies at NBC or MSNBC.

Hey, lowlife. Go back and reread what you wrote and if you don’t see how sleazy and irrelevent it was it proves that you either have no brain or no principles or likely neither. A teenage girl getting in a car accident in which someone is killed is the same as graft and corruption committed by a licensed attorney? Step away from the keyboard and go back to molesting your poodle.
peacenprosperity on July 29, 2009 at 1:04 PM
I’m sure the fact that it was an “accident” made the family who buried their son feel better. Manslaughter deserves prison time. Criminals should be behind bars…minors or not.

sonnyspats1 on July 29, 2009 at 1:05 PM
The fact that they didn’t hire anyone to replace her always cracks me up. What a loser that woman is, talking about how she’s so competent and has so much drive for perfection. It’s all BS for the cameras. Behind the scenes, I’m sure she’s a lazy ingrate with a huge sense of entitlement, as we see when the mask sometimes slips. Only the most naive sort of grown-up child (like dcwvu, for example) could think she was “accomplished”.
venividivici on July 29, 2009 at 1:05 PM
Matt probably took one look at the hot Asian chick with nice legs sitting across from him and thought, “I’ve got this. She’s just another conservative bimbo.”
When the interview concluded, he probably thought, “Crap…what should I say…what do I…oh good, time to go to break.”
jediwebdude on July 29, 2009 at 1:06 PM
Sporty1946:
It’s just dcwvu aping the typical progressive’s projection/transference accusative defense.
Y’know, the disingenuous “.. we’re never so bad that you ‘Wingers aren’t worser” dodgy deal.
In this instance, a ducking of the inconvenient Chappaquiddick killing-with-intent nasty bit in their Fat-Ted Icon’s slippery history.

Michelle Malkin has done great service once again with this timely book, which I plan on buying this weekend.
“This Obama admin is full of corruption and cronyism.” I may not have it word for word, but when Michelle said that, I cheered.
Lauer is weak, and once again flustered by a Conservative guest unapologetic about her beliefs.
May God continue to Bless Michelle Malkin.

Michelle is most of the way there! YES! Obama IS a racial opportunist. And Gates made it his life study to study race.
Yes, Obama did it ON PURPOSE. The rest of the way there is that Gates did it ON PURPOSE. Now, the only thing left to figure is was this all planned and was there a motive. The answer to that is:
It could have been planned, yes. And second, a HUGE motive existed when this all happened.
I’ve commented on the motive enough, but because we are now somewhat displaced from that moment in time, let me remind you all, the House was still likely to vote on the Health Bill at that moment in time. So, the motive? Distract the press with a wonderfully salacious story on race, and therefore distract the public from writing their representatives in Congress and get this Health Bill passed.
These two back-to-back “ill considered” racial comments by Gates and Obama, two very well educated men, were coincidental? You kidding me?
It was planned. Nothing else explains it half so well.

Matt Lauer is a liberal elitest who is about as tolerant of a conservative viewpoint as he is of Tom Cruise. Michelle did a great job! We’ve even started a fan group for her on our website to talk about her books, columns and websites. We love “the boss”!

My apologies if this has already been mentioned, but it’s funny that someone commented that Lauer looked a little like he sucked on a lemon, near the end. Because, that is exactly WHO he looked liked in this clip, Don Lemon from CNN being told Africa loved George Bush just as much as his messiah.
Great job Michelle. I LOVE how she noticed Lauer’s cheap trap of “he hasn’t gotten to where he is by being a racial opportunist, has he?”. That would have been the headline of the interview, but Lauer failed at speaking to a wise conservative.
I really wish someone would mention that Republicans did not vote against a “hispanic,” they voted against a Liberal! She is a liberal activist before she is hispanic.
TampaBayBull on July 29, 2009 at 1:44 PM
name calling, no. Talking about looks. When you those here say the things they say about MO, it can tend to sound racial.
Calling someone a “tool”, for saying all kinds of ugly stuff about Laura Bush, calling her a murderer, is not the same.

Standard leftist attempt to shift the ground of discussion by the misuse of words. “Murderer” gets used when dcwvu knows that doesn’t apply in any reasonable sense. “Plowed a guy over” completely misrepresents the events by portraying Mr. Douglas as a pedestrian being run over rather than another driver being, shall we say, “plowed into.” “Wrecklessly [sic]” gets used, even though no charges were filed.
Having been pummeled on his “murder” angle, he asserts criminality on the basis of manslaughter. Our leftist is getting positively fascist now, convicting of manslaughter and advocating imprisoning minors where charges aren’t filed and without reference to the facts of the case. I’m sure dcwvu isn’t really a fascist, since somehow I suspect dcwvu is being less than honest in claiming to believe “Criminals should be behind bars… minors or not.” It’s just typical for leftists to sound like fascists when trying to assert a point about anything related to GWB.
wordsson on July 29, 2009 at 1:55 PM
It’s very hard for a smarmy schmuck like Lauer to step out of his cocoon and face the real world of criticism. If more everyday folks could be seen talking to the likes of Lauer, the population would wake up pretty quickly and the Democrat / MSM propaganda alliance would crumble. They only succeed by carefully and consistently packaging their message. It’s rare that they have to open the gates to someone like MM. But the Amazon CoC ranking shows where the true pulse of the country lies. And this scares the hell out of Lauer as it should.

Michelle is the first one to take on Michelle Obama’s past. I did not know that Michelle Obama was the daughter of a well connected member of the Daley machine. Makes Barack Obama look even more calculating in marrying her. You have to wonder about that.

DFCtomm on July 29, 2009 at 2:24 PM
Wow, I just scrolled back to see what “equality” posted. Why does the unhinged left miss take facts about someone has “hatred because he is black?” Holy smokes, that is such a stretch and a leap. No one I know dislikes Obama because he has black ethnicity. We despise him becuase he hates America and everything it stands for. We despise his policies. We don’t care that he is black. We care that he wants to destroy this country.

Very good interview. Hopefully some of Today’s audience will start wondering just how ‘wonderful’ is Zero.

It’s Janeane Garofalo syndrome. ANY displeasure with Obama or his cronies is INSTANTLY attributed to “racism, straight up”. NONE of these people have ever had an original thought in their head. They simply mimic what they see the Hollywood types say and do. It’s like monkey see, monkey do.

Rather than interview his guest, Matt tries to argue with them, yet doesn’t even do that well. The point of doing this, of course, is so that he reaffirms his liberal reputation. If he let Malkin speak, without protesting her words, he fears he might be blacklisted by the left for softballing one of their most hated icons.
The irony of course, is that interviewers are not supposed to argue with their guests, so no need to assert his liberal bonafides should be required. They are there only to interview the guest and to let them speak. That skill, however, was lost in the age of activist journalism where the journalist, an icon onto her/himself, must do battle with ideological opponents and not just let them speak, not only because he wants to express his own political views, but because he must challenge the heresy being uttered in this presence in order to continue his good standing in the liberal political world of mainstream journalism.
