Oh my: New WSJ poll shows support for ObamaCare tanking; Update: “This is a president who needs a vacation”

Granted, the NYT poll that’s also out tonight shows him considerably stronger on the issue, but even there you’ve got massive majorities saying they’re concerned that the cost of care will go up (59 percent) and the quality of care will go down (69 percent). And like I say, that’s the “good” poll.

Here’s the one we’re concerned with.

In mid-June, the public was evenly divided when asked whether it thought Mr. Obama’s health plan was a good idea or bad idea. The new poll, conducted July 24-27, found 42% calling it a bad idea versus 36% who said it was a good idea. Among those with insurance, the portion calling the plan a bad idea rose to 47% from 37%…

On health care, there was another worrisome sign for the president: Only two in 10 people predicted the quality of their own care would improve under the Obama plan, and just 15% of those with private insurance thought it would. Twice as many overall, and three times as many with private coverage, predicted their own care would get worse.

Not only is he now in net negative territory on the subject…

…but note the swing among from April to July between those who don’t have an opinion to those who expect care will deteriorate. All the more reason to cherish the August recess as a chance to further educate the public about the plan.

Here’s an especially amazing shift. Look how many people have reoriented towards worries about rationing in just the past month.

I know it’s uncharacteristic, but I’m actually feeling a frisson of … optimism, dare I say it. The whole survey’s almost unvarnished good news. Almost:

Update: A runner-up for quote of the day from one of the pollsters who conducted this survey:

“This is a president who needs a vacation,” says Democratic pollster Peter D. Hart, who conducted the survey with Republican pollster Bill McInturff. “His job rating is … certainly an acceptable mark. But if you look at it over time, it has [gone] south without a doubt.”…

But the poll, McInturff says, makes it clear that Obama — who had been gliding above the partisan fray — has come back down to earth. Conservatives and Republicans have moved away from him, while his numbers in the South and Midwest have declined.

“The question I asked back in February was: When does political gravity take hold?” he said. “The answer is in this survey. It is happening right now.”

Once an organizer always an organizer. This man does not have any respect for the office. He only lives for the power that comes along with it. This is the reason he could never have a successful presidency.

HoustonRight on July 29, 2009 at 9:12 PM

LOL … I just watched Karl Rove hold up his infamous White Board.

It says that 67.4 Billion of the 787 Billion allocated by the Spendulus has actually been spent. If the economy’s recovered – we made it there on 67.4 Billion (a huge miscalculation by the Dems).

What the Republicans should do is this …

We have spent only 8 percent of the money in the Spendulous. We can re-coup that money for our kids and grand kids if we REPEAL the stimulus and reclaim the un-spent funds. This is the key to victory next year. You want your money back America? Vote in a veto-proof Republican majority.

HondaV65 on July 29, 2009 at 9:12 PM

i am not suggesting a third party but….there’s a big difference between perot and palin.

SHARPTOOTH on July 29, 2009 at 9:01 PM

On many levels…..

I’d still vote for Perot. He does not lie. He says things that are uncomfortable, and that makes him sound like a political Pop-Eye. Smart, savvy, and he knows how to play hardball. I like the guy. I voted for him in ‘92.

Palin, OTH, is smart, charismatic, and reflects a great deal of how people see and think of themselves. A true “girl next door”, and I mean that in the most “Mrs. Cleaver” kind of way. I did vote for her (and by default, her partner).

Can we say Perot/Palin or Palin/Perot?

Nah….

BobMbx on July 29, 2009 at 9:12 PM

At the town hall today, Obama said “we have got to get past the idea that washington can’t do anything right”

Obama bashed washington all through the campaign, while out promoting his stimulus, etc.

Now, Obama thinks washington can ‘get it right’? He’s just saying that so people will trust congress and get his healthcare bill passed!

His polls will contienue to decline as people wake up to the fact that Hope & Change hustled them out of their vote.

If insurance companies are so evil and charging so much, then people should just self insure. They can save the money they would use to buy insurance and pay the doctor CASH when they need it. Pay CASH for their expensive medicine when they need it.

After all, the evil insurance companies are wasting everyone’s money. Notice the story of Obama’s mother worrying. She shouldn’t have because Obama doesn’t say that the insurance didn’t pay their bill. If insurance didn’t pay for his mama, do you think he’d be using that in his story?

Insurance DOES pay or you sue. They are regulated already more than anyone. . . and their rates are approved by the departments of insurances in EVERY state EVERY year.

ThackerAgency on July 29, 2009 at 8:35 PM

Nearly all of the commentary about insurance companies from the Left is either laughably uninformed or incredibly moronic. Their vision of how a public plan would differ from private insurance is naive, at best. It’s going to be the same actuaries setting prices for coverage, only instead of the price being called a “premium”, it will be called a “tax”.

Polls can say one thing, but congress does another. No one supports cap and tax, yet it passed the House and will likely pass the senate.
This health care crap will also pass.

Let’s see if Obama and his advisers can stand not having Barack on TV for several days in a row when he goes to the Cape. My guess is Hart’s advice that the president is overexposed may actually get through to them — briefly — but Obama won’t be able to go more than 36 hours without being in the spotlight (and ironically, the big media will help compound the problem because they still think everyone should love the president as much as they do, and even if Axelrod and Emanuel wanted to curtail the coverage in order to possible stop the eroding support for Barack and his health care play, media love won’t let that happen).

Did anyone else get spammed by Ogabe today to support his healthcare boondoggle? I’ve never visited the WH webpage, and today I got an e-mail advocating for Ogabecare and entreating me to call my congresscritter to support it. I posted it here in the comments, because it struck me as quite unusual.

Only later did I realize how ridiculous this is; the President of the United States is spamming his constituents to support a craptastic bill in Congress. Think of that; what next, will Rahm be spamming me about a fortune that’s waiting for me in a Kenyan bank, if only I send him my routing number?

A national health emergency is a great way to accomplish a lot of goals in a very short time. Rush said he had a strange dream this week about Obama. I think it was on Monday. I posted early last week on some other article on HA the dream I had last week. I guess it is the season for dreams.
This was not a normal dream and for what it’s worth, I’ll share it again.
I was looking down on congress and it was all different. Everyone was working hurriedly and quietly,, yet working as one. It reminded me of how a doctor would work trying to save the life of a dying patient during surgery,, working quietly and quickly. Congress was quickly trying to fix and save the nation. Obama was gone. Not just Obama, but everyone that was associated with Obama. As I was looking down on congress, all the Senators and congressmen were working quickly and quietly to not just overturn all that Obama had done, but to erase every trace of his Presidency. Then I saw people,, crowds all over Washington. People were standing in groups with their eyes turned toward the capital waiting for word on what congress was doing, and congress was doing exactly what all these people wanted. It was all peaceful,, but very solemn. There was no cheering or happiness in anything. It was a strange dream and I woke up right after I had it.

seesalrun on July 29, 2009 at 10:30 PM

I predict an Obama manufactured crisis at the begining of August to keep everyone from calling congressmen on the heathcare debacle. This is only the second time, the first being immigration, that I am actually calling family members and writing representatives. Need to keep up the pressure guys all though the recess.

Vigilante on July 29, 2009 at 10:32 PM

I think people are afraid of the Democrats screwing things up.

Terrye on July 29, 2009 at 10:34 PM

Remember that quote from “Rules for Radicals” about “the world as it is and not as we want it to be”? I wonder when he’ll pull that one out again?

darwin-t on July 29, 2009 at 9:47 PM

Thank you for the reminder about how important that book is to these Marxists. I just went to a website and perused the 11 Rules …now I am numb with fear over just how closely the Obamas and their cronies are following Saul Alinsky’s plan to wipe out America. Power, intimidation, ridicule, and tactics involving fear and confusion…it’s all in there, and it reads exactly like every single one of his endless, major-minor speeches!

Just remind them that a Pearl Necklace is part of the look. :)

You made me laugh. I bring you this!

I wouldn’t mind if it took a vacation until Jan. 20, 2013.

Jim Treacher on July 29, 2009 at 10:53 PM

Yeah. I could use a vacation from this president. The whole economy could.

Gilda on July 29, 2009 at 10:55 PM

Jim Treacher on July 29, 2009 at 10:53 PM

We should poll on this.

I’m with you – the longer his vacation is, the more I can relax.

massrighty on July 29, 2009 at 10:55 PM

Update: “This is a president who needs a vacation”

Out of order!!!

I am the one who needs a vacation! The Meleagris Gallopavo in the White House needs an enema.

Think of that; what next, will Rahm be spamming me about a fortune that’s waiting for me in a Kenyan bank, if only I send him my routing number?
Fallen Sparrow on July 29, 2009

If you think that’s bad you should read the one he sent to the kids.

“Health care costs will double over the next decade, millions more will become uninsured, millions will die! Even your dog and cat will die! and state and local governments along with millions of Americans will go bankrupt and die!

The only thing that can save America is ME, the one!
We are the one we’ve been waiting for!

Now do your homework, eat your vegetables and make sure your parents know that if they don’t vote for me they will DIE!

Have a nice day!”

DSchoen on July 29, 2009 at 11:13 PM

I like the guy. I voted for him Clinton in ‘92.

FIFY.

In other news…

Remember that incident where members of the Black Panthers showed up at a polling place and tried to intimidate folks?

Washington Times in this morning’s edition is running with this.

Assistant Attorney General Loretta King recommended dropping the case, when she discussed the case with Associate Attorney General Thomas J. Perrelli, the No. 3 official in the Obama Justice Department.

“Ms. King, a career senior executive service official, had been named by President Obama in January to temporarily fill the vacant political position of assistant attorney general for civil rights while a permanent choice could be made.”

My favorite part:

The share of those who said he could be trusted to keep his word fell to 48% this month from 58% in April.

Not even half of America believes Barry anymore.

I usually listen to Rush, but I missed his telling of the dream.

I have seen cases where people’s dreams can be prescient, and I hope that Rush’s is one of them. It could mean a strong, Republican Congress that is undoing Obama’s damage to the nation… 2010? Let’s hope and pray it’s so.

atheling on July 30, 2009 at 2:14 AM

this doesn’t look like extremely good news – he’s getting better ratings than Clinton’s plan.

Phoenician on July 30, 2009 at 3:59 AM

Um, yeah…this is a president who needs a vacation from me. I have never felt more imposed upon by my government since these people took control. And, Mr Ubiquitous hasn’t and isn’t helping himself. His overexposure, immature gaffes and petty liberal low blows to the private sector should (in a normal America) turn even die hard Obots off, at least marginally. He was a celebrity running on his celebrity…and his star is fading.

Someone has already said all this, I know.

Mommypundit on July 30, 2009 at 5:22 AM

This is a (I don’t call him the “p” word) who needs an impeachment.

LtE126 on July 30, 2009 at 6:45 AM

It isn’t a Waterloo, it’s a Stalingrad. And we must be willing to get bloody to drive this monstrosity out of the picture.

chemman on July 29, 2009 at 9:08 PM

Yes, Stalingrad.

marklmail on July 30, 2009 at 7:42 AM

You want your money back America? Vote in a veto-proof Republican majority.

HondaV65 on July 29, 2009

Considering what the Republicans did during the Bush years (spending and advancing progressive ideas/power-grabbing) are you certain you want them back? In their present form, they are only marginally better than the Dems. Can we at least demand small-government conservatism from those candidates…in writing…under penalty of certain political death? No guarantee of course, but it would at least put them on notice that we are watching them like never before.

SKYFOX on July 30, 2009 at 8:39 AM

SKYFOX on July 30, 2009 at 8:39 AM

the problem with the GOP was Bush wanting desperately to “change the tone”….the main tactic was “we’ll give the libs what they want”….never understanding that the first objective of ALL donk braying is power….

so we spent our way tooblivion trying to co-opt the unco-optable.
