Oh my: New WSJ poll shows support for ObamaCare tanking; Update: “This is a president who needs a vacation”
posted at 8:22 pm on July 29, 2009 by Allahpundit
Granted, the NYT poll that’s also out tonight shows him considerably stronger on the issue, but even there you’ve got massive majorities saying they’re concerned that the cost of care will go up (59 percent) and the quality of care will go down (69 percent). And like I say, that’s the “good” poll.
Here’s the one we’re concerned with.
In mid-June, the public was evenly divided when asked whether it thought Mr. Obama’s health plan was a good idea or bad idea. The new poll, conducted July 24-27, found 42% calling it a bad idea versus 36% who said it was a good idea. Among those with insurance, the portion calling the plan a bad idea rose to 47% from 37%…
On health care, there was another worrisome sign for the president: Only two in 10 people predicted the quality of their own care would improve under the Obama plan, and just 15% of those with private insurance thought it would. Twice as many overall, and three times as many with private coverage, predicted their own care would get worse.
Not only is he now in net negative territory on the subject…

…but note the swing among from April to July between those who don’t have an opinion to those who expect care will deteriorate. All the more reason to cherish the August recess as a chance to further educate the public about the plan.

Here’s an especially amazing shift. Look how many people have reoriented towards worries about rationing in just the past month.

I know it’s uncharacteristic, but I’m actually feeling a frisson of … optimism, dare I say it. The whole survey’s almost unvarnished good news. Almost:

Update: A runner-up for quote of the day from one of the pollsters who conducted this survey:
“This is a president who needs a vacation,” says Democratic pollster Peter D. Hart, who conducted the survey with Republican pollster Bill McInturff. “His job rating is … certainly an acceptable mark. But if you look at it over time, it has [gone] south without a doubt.”…
But the poll, McInturff says, makes it clear that Obama — who had been gliding above the partisan fray — has come back down to earth. Conservatives and Republicans have moved away from him, while his numbers in the South and Midwest have declined.
“The question I asked back in February was: When does political gravity take hold?” he said. “The answer is in this survey. It is happening right now.”

This is utterly historic. Never has so much political capital been so egregiously spent upon more diddly squat than I have ever seen, nor has history ever seen. This is a lonely man in sheer denial of the face of reality. It is no wonder he wants to try and build a totalitarian regime–he cannot handle opposition, he cannot handle bad news and he cannot handle the truth.
Political capital is the currency of the President. It is stunningly hilarious to see that he spends his political capital like he is spending our money. Unfortunately for him, I can make more money–but he sure ain’t going to make more capital. Once it’s gone, it’s gone there….champ.

Polls can say one thing, but congress does another. No one supports cap and tax, yet it passed the House and will likely pass the senate.
This health care crap will also pass.
WSJ/NBC poll is garbage. Rasmussen is the guy to trust in polls.

100% of the house and senate are happy with their health care.

Bishop on July 29, 2009 at 8:32 PM
All of his proposals are lies. He’s saying that you are going to have better coverage for less money.
If an insurance agent sold policies like that, they would lose their license in a second.
He’s mandating coverage and saying that will lower costs. Costs are high in New York because they have so much mandated coverage. Drop the mandates and costs drop. You need to put more emphasis on the consumer taking responsibility for their health costs instead of using the insurance policy to pay for everything for them.
Of course, lowering costs isn’t really Obama’s plan because he can’t make a single proposal which would actually impact costs in a downward fashion.

If insurance companies are so evil and charging so much, then people should just self insure. They can save the money they would use to buy insurance and pay the doctor CASH when they need it. Pay CASH for their expensive medicine when they need it.
After all, the evil insurance companies are wasting everyone’s money. Notice the story of Obama’s mother worrying. She shouldn’t have because Obama doesn’t say that the insurance didn’t pay their bill. If insurance didn’t pay for his mama, do you think he’d be using that in his story?
Insurance DOES pay or you sue. They are regulated already more than anyone. . . and their rates are approved by the departments of insurances in EVERY state EVERY year.

In just the last week the line by line dissection that first appeared on Twitter has now been read by probably millions. The actual details are so shocking/Orwellian that even if you entered into the proceedings supporting universal care the end product is not what you had in mind.
It is not a stretch to suggest, that for this very reason, the plan was to pass a unread bill and sign it into law before the August recess.
Right now they are trying to deflect our reading of the bill by saying the “blue dogs” are fighting for savings! The truth of the matter is, the money is chump change. In the end the blue dogs want this horrific bill. Very disturbing.

Obamacare will fail – it already has. What you have now is the Democrats retreating wildly – with a few attempting to “rally” to save face. They are not supermen – and they cannot withstand the condemnation of the American people.
The Democrats can’t even hold town hall meetings without being clobbered by their constituents. The more the dig in on this issue – the more ridiculous they look. We have 1,000 pages of liberal nightmares bound up in the House’s Health Care Legislation – and you can be damned sure that Conservatives will be extracting those nightmares and holding them up to the American people.
Add to that – the fact that Liberals are even angry at ObamaCare at this point. It’s ugly on the left folks.
Will there be a bill passed? Oh yeah – but it will not contain a government owned public option. When President Sarah Palin is sworn in – she can sell that crap off to the highest bidder in the private sector. Low hanging fruit.
This should be good news to most of you. Not to me. I’d actually like to see Democrats piss off Americans EVEN MORE. Because I’d like to see a historic extermination of Democrats in the House and Senate next year. If the Blue Dogs keep injecting sense into the Democratic Party – it might not happen the way I want it to go down.
Which is …
HARD.
