I think the country’s divisions are less state by state and more urban versus rural (with the suburbs deciding which way politics tilts)
The blue states do have conservatives, but I believe they are more concentrated in rural and lightly suburban areas and there aren’t enough of these geographic pockets to outweigh the influence of the cities. With the red states, it is often the opposite. When you look at a county by county map of the USA’s voting patterns, doesn’t it resemble a population density map? Blue is urban, Red is rural.
One question that needs to be answered politically is how we balance the perceived needs and wants of each constituency.
