Reps. Bilbray, Mack find answers on Honduras trip

Mack told The Hill that he found Hondurans to be in “disbelief” at the Obama administration’s reaction to the ouster of Zelaya.

This article in spanish states:

El depuesto presidente de Honduras, Manuel Zelaya, pidió hoy a Estados Unidos embargar las cuentas bancarias en esa nación a los “golpistas” y continuar “apretando” al nuevo Gobierno de su país, que preside Roberto Micheletti.

Desde Nicaragua, donde permanece y organiza un movimiento de “resistencia” con miras a regresar a Honduras, Zelaya reconoció ante periodistas que la decisión del presidente Barack Obama de revocar el visado a cuatro funcionarios del Gobierno de Micheletti significa una “señal y un gesto que no acepta los golpes de Estado”.

Sin embargo, demandó a Obama “continuar apretando a los golpistas con sus cuentas, embargar sus dineros”.

The gist of the quote is that Zelaya is asking the United States to freeze bank accounts of those who ousted him. While mentioning to reporters that President Obama’s decision to revoke Visas to 4 Honduran officials was a good sign that he does not support the “coup”, Zelaya is demanding that Obama continues to pressure them by locking their funds.

Lets see if Obama submits to Zelayas demands.

It did happen. There was at least one congressman who visited with them and I believe Obama’s name was mentioned on the laptop data. This was during the campaign and I had hopes it would do him in but it seems to have been muted. I don’t have a link but HA poster elduende who seems to have a pretty good background on this stuff confirmed the identity of the congressman on another thread. Believe he was from the east coast.

I wonder if he meant that Colombia helped expose Obama by capturing the FARC laptops which contained info on a couple of our lefty congresscritters making overtures to FARC.

I have this scary thought that Obama is setting the stage for his own take over when we the people vote him out in 2012 – could it happen here?

Sure. If he doesn’t respect the Constitution of Honduras there is no reason he should respect our’s. I never thought that would be a possibility here, but he’s convinced me.

Your major point…Obama is really going to bat for a drug runner (Zelaya) has a lot of merit and demands a further look see.

Zelaya’s call for legalizing drugs fits right into Obama’s long held belief that drug use should be legal. The drug producers are paying a huge amount to transport their products…some figures cite well over half of their would be profits are eaten up by pay-offs, losses due to seizures and having to skirt DEA, Coast Guard and other agencies trying to interdict them.

If legalized, there’s a ton of “legal” money to be made by those who have the means to produce already. Not going to be an easy market to break into unless you are already in it.

Point taken and conceded.

If Noriega’s only beef with Bush, Sr., was merely drug running…

There were other far more acute immediate reasons for toppling Noriega.

But, it was a federal indictment for drug running that enabled us to nail Noriega without it looking like it was merely just a leadership swap.

If this drug running were going on, presumably for a long time, with the approval of at least *someone* pretty high up in Honduras, and the DEA knew it, wouldn’t Bush have taken some action about it? After all, his father busted Noriega for less. It would be interesting, and perhaps horrifying, to know exactly what and how much has been going on.

I’m no attorney, but that’s what seems to be the clear inference from in the articles. I found both very interesting and certainly the historical precedent that Hillary was driving home during Watergate. Not that the House in its present configuration would go for it, but I thought others might want to see how the phrase has been interpreted.

From this past April…drug use should be treated as a disease…not a crime…

“Harm Reduction” is the new meme around the call, similar to both Obama and Zelaya to decriminalize/legalize drugs.

O.K.

The Hondurans’ allegations are certainly provocative. If Obama is really going to bat for a drug runner (Zelaya) that truly would be an impeachable offense. No matter the facts, however, an impeachment would never happen in the current US Senate. More to the point, under the Obama administration it is highly unlikely that the facts would ever see daylight.
