Report: Palin “testing the waters” for a radio deal
posted at 6:30 pm on July 28, 2009 by Allahpundit
What’s to “test”? She’ll draw the entire conservative base and a goodly chunk of the left as they tune in to channel the hate. Pay her whatever she wants and sign the deal.
Alaska’s now former Governor is coy about her future political plans, but radio is at least one option she’s leaving on the table. While not exactly shopping the GOP’s 2008 vice presidential candidate, sources say Palin representatives have been quietly testing the waters to see how much interest radio syndicators have for her.
Sources say Palin hasn’t committed to radio either, but rather it could be a possible next step for her.
I’m assuming this would mean short scripted commentaries, a la what Fred Thompson used to do when he subbed for Paul Harvey. A live show, especially if she took calls, would be … mind-boggling, and riveting. I’d honestly pay to listen. Plus, think how good she’d be in interviews after a few months of trial by fire fielding calls from deranged Palin-haters. “Line one, we have Andrew from Provincetown. Andrew, I understand you want to know who really carried my son Trig to term.”
The one downside of a live show: Lots of “whining” about the media. Lots.

Good grief. I hope this isn’t true – seems a bit tacky at this point.
KickandSwimMom on July 28, 2009 at 7:12 PM
I’d say certainly, if she’s contemplating a presidential run at any time in the future. And yes, if she really wants to have an impact on the platform of a rebuilding Republican party.
ProfessorMiao on July 28, 2009 at 7:13 PM
I think Palin could do a lot of things. Maybe be a female Rush if she wanted to be.

BetseyRoss on July 28, 2009 at 7:15 PM
Seriously? You don’t think she needs to dive deeply into some major policy issues if she wants to have a real impact in politics? That being a figurehead is enough?

A radio show would be fun, but not nearly as fun as watching her on some (undoubtedly) Fox News show. The train wreck factor of the show would certainly provide astronomical ratings.
dcwvu on July 28, 2009 at 7:21 PM
IS SHE GOING TO STEP UP? OR STEP DOWN?
It’s ALL ABOUT POLICY OR PALIN IS JUST GOING BE A B RATED Celebrity.
TimeTraveler on July 28, 2009 at 7:21 PM
Your president is a one termer and the biggest train wreck this country has seen since Carter….
Why isn’t he getting great ratings during his press conferences?
TimeTraveler on July 28, 2009 at 7:22 PM
Yet he still destroyed Miss Alaska in November. That’s not a great defense for your Messiahess.
dcwvu on July 28, 2009 at 7:25 PM
If she does the radio thing, she would follow Ronald Reagan’s footsteps exactly. He did the same thing after losing the GOP primary in 1976.
Regardless, no matter what she does (book, TV, radio, etc), she will be a huge success.
Norwegian on July 28, 2009 at 7:26 PM
I rather hear her do what Ronald Reagan/ Fred Thompson did, give a weekly commentary of the issue of the week.
jencab on July 28, 2009 at 7:27 PM
Maybe Palin just wants to have fun or do what she wants to do. If there is one thing you can say for certain about Palin, it is that she is no typical politician. If she wants to run for President, probably the wrong way to go, but who knows for sure. But maybe she just wants to have her voice heard and speak out to a national audience to affect change. If so, this could be great! Needless to say, I’ll back her whatever her decision

Me too.
XWing5 on July 28, 2009 at 7:28 PM
Didn’t she do that Miss Alaska crap a few decades ago for scholarship money? Wasn’t Obama doing some coke a few decades ago?
So it’s fair for me to call the president a f*** cokehead?
TimeTraveler on July 28, 2009 at 7:30 PM
If it makes you feel less intimidated by him, fine. I like how you don’t actually defend Sarah..you just insult the President. Makes it look like there is no excuse for her, so you just attack someone else. Very telling.
dcwvu on July 28, 2009 at 7:33 PM
I was thinking blogger. We could use more common sense conservatives on our side. Offer her a Green Room spot AP. Just kidding. Not feeling the radio show. I hope she writes her book, and delivers devastating speeches in front of electric crowds. Then when it’s time for book tour, and 2010 election, everyone will have a better idea how bright this star is going to be.

Yet when Rush Limbaugh points out the unfairness of the MSM media (which he does everyday for a living) it’s all fine and dandy.
So according to you Allah, if Sarah Palin does the same thing… she’s “whining”.
The only reason you would listen to her show is for blogging content.

When did repeating facts become insulting?
bill30097 on July 28, 2009 at 7:37 PM
I vote NO on a live show, too. I think Huckster’s decision to do the Fox show is a big reason why I wouldn’t consider him a realistic candidate anymore (even if I didn’t hate his guts). I dunno . . . I think it just kind of think there’s a pretty defined line between radio personality and political leader. OTOH, Al Franken did it and Sarah has certainly proved that she can buck the norm and still come out on top, so who knows? But I’d rather if she’s going to do radio or anything else that it be these pre-taped commentaries like Reagan used to do (or for that matter, like Huck does — she’d be way better at it than he is).
Actually, I think terryannonline’s suggestion of YouTube commentaries is even better. Talk radio is kind of preaching to the choir, but YouTube would allow her to reach a different — and younger — audience.
NoLeftTurn on July 28, 2009 at 7:37 PM
Dude. You need to dial it down.
The Front Street Fuhrer beat an ancient and deeply washed up John McCain. That’s like beating Himmler in a race for for Mayor of Tel Aviv. That’s like beating Paul Tibbets in a race for Mayor of Hiroshima. As a result, Democrats have been talking as if they were hung like John Holmes or something.
That’s actually NOTHING. Now that they have power, they have to defend their overweening ambition. Too bad Barack Obama doesn’t even measure up to Ron Jeremy.
victor82 on July 28, 2009 at 7:38 PM
He beat McCain in November, remember? Do you even know who was at the top of the ticket?
But we’ll hopefully have an opportunity in 2012 to test your little theory about whom destroys whom.
yogi41 on July 28, 2009 at 7:39 PM
I am actually defending her because I mentioned that the brief pageant stint was for scholarship money. So since you want to degrade her for doing this than it’s only fair to mention that Obama was doing some good coke back in the days.
No, I am stating thatfact that you mentioned the Governor’s brief pageant stint that was a few decades ago,
so i just thought that Obama’s cokehead days were fair game then right?

Nah. She’s not going to have a radio “show”. She’s going to come out swinging and call this stinking federal government what it is. A corrupt, stinking, rotting, maggot infested corpse.
She’s going to remind us all about what makes America and Americans exceptional.
She’s going to drive the liberals absolutely nutbag insane (predict anti-Palin protests). They cannot avoid her. The more they attack her, the stronger she’ll get.
I don’t see her running for POTUS. That’s beneath her. She’s just going to unite the country and once that’s done the Country will exterminate the progressive movement.
Pretty simple. Very bold. Very doable. And she’s the only one with a pair big enough to pull it off.

Ronald Reagan did radio. He did certain spots that allowed him to hone his message. If Palin did the same, it would be well-worth her time. A “Live” radio gig would be fantastic and yes, it would allow her to hone her skills in fending off the frivolous callers. Great experience for her!

Because she is anti-socialist. she is one of the only national leaders standing in the way of the big brother dream of the elites. she represents what jefferson, washington, fraklin did to the english crown. I am not comparing her to those people but she is that idea of individual freedom to Obama’s and the left’s King george.
If they defeat her they feel no one else will rise up to take her place. Then we will have dems and dems lite which makes socialism a sure thing sooner or later..

She’s not going to write a book, or do a radio show or do a television show. Get it through your heads, folks.
This woman wants to be the voice of the silent and shackled majority. We have a 1/2 black precedent. Who can criticize a 1/2 black man? Nobody. Now, racism is alive and well thanks to Re-rend Wright and now Skippydoodle Gates, but it’s backfiring.
I think that Palin sees her Country in peril as many of us do, but she’s strong enough to speak out and try to do something about it. This is why the left attacks her so vehemently. And, if the left has a half a brain? They’ll realize that if they attack her as a private citizen exercising the 1st Amendment Rights, they will pay a very heavy price.
This woman will not back down. The left has met its match.

She needs to make a record of her words that can not be taken out of context. radio and tV can be too easily made to say what they want you to say. Look how the media tried to cut up her speech and leave the contect out about the press having a responsibility to report the facts.

I wouldn’t count on it though, she needs the money (remember all those legal bills she quit being the governor for?).

I agree about filling in for Rush every once in awhile. That could be very cool.
NoLeftTurn on July 28, 2009 at 8:20 PM
Radio has several advantages: (1) She wouldn’t be tied down. A studio can be set up in her home (or nearby) if/when she doesn’t want to travel, and she could easily do the show while on the road if/when she does travel the country. (2) You can’t be seen on radio; only heard. It would be good for people to stop looking at Sarah and talking about her appearance, and to listen to what she has to say. (3) A radio show can be substantive in a way that TV usually can’t. There’s a reason Hugh Hewitt is on radio, not TV.
That said, I think a radio call-in show would not work well because too many callers would be (a) Palin lovers who would waste air time telling her she’s inspiring and comiserating with her unfair treatment by the media or (b) Palin haters trying to sneak by the call screener to insult her on-air.
Much better would be a weekly one-hour interview show in which she interviews conservative authors, politicians and business people about issues. Her image would benefit from the substantive discussions, she could learn a lot of policy while on the job, and her personality/humor could leaven the show. She would need only a small staff to line-up the issues/guests, and if she spent the week preparing for the guest, I’m sure she would be more knowledgeable than most reporters by show-time. (Example: Monday thru Friday read “Liberal Fascism,” Saturday interview Jonah Goldberg for one hour; Monday through Friday read-up on Honduran government crisis, Saturday interview Honduran ambassador; Monday through Friday read-up on medical costs, Saturday interview CEO of Blue Cross Blue Shield.) And, of course, she could also do speaking engagements and TV interviews to whatever extent she wants. And she could spend time with her family to whatever extent she wants.
If she did that, I think she could reach a very large audience, and advance issues of interest to conservatives (and promote authors and politicians that share her positions). And, if she did that for 4-8 years and then wanted to return to electoral politics, she’d have something substantive to say on hundreds of different issues and might be able to shake the cartoonish image of her that’s been created (but I suspect 2012 will be far too soon).

On top of all that, I balance two budgets (household and business), conduct continuing education seminars through my State, volunteer at a local tent city and another homeless shelter, do food drives and clothing drives for displaced women who just need a decent suit to get an interview. And, I still have time to follow the news that will affect my family, my children and grandchildren and I fight hard to keep the Liberty that my father, my husband’s father, and our grandfathers AND great grandfathers fought and died for in both theaters in WWII, Korea and Vietnam.

I know one thing.. Palin would never dishonor the seat of the president by having a “beer” with a cop. First of all she would have never made the statment Obama made and second if she did she would not act like a high school kid trying to get “everyone to get along”
This “beer” thing is the stupidest, junville, act yet of the President. For God’s sake the man is suppose to be the leader of the free world. Not your avg joe having a beer.
God Obama makes me miss bush and clinton and Bush 1. something I never thought I would say. Palin would never have a girly chat fest over drinks to settle her foot in the mouth comment. She would simply issue an apology and move along.

Think he’ll bring TOTUS to the beer meeting ?

Beer is now dishonorable for the President? Did you think the same thing when Reagan was seen drinking beer? GW couldn’t pull it off because he’s an alcoholic, but Reagan has more respectable conservative chops anyhow.

Does he plan on speaking? If so, you answered your own question….

I bet he doesn’t order an iron city beer. I mean….is this crap for real? the president meeting in a bar for a beer with a cop he said was stupid? Was Obama high when he thought of this?

Hey idiot – I never said she was dumb. I said she’s too good looking to be wasted on radio (kidding on the square). I also said it would be good for her to practice her extemporaneous speaking, which is true. Doing what Rush and Levin do is really hard – not every smart person can do it. I think she would learn, and it would be good for her.
I am also concerned that she would occasionally make mistakes which would be later exploited. If you talk enough, every day, sooner or later you will say something dumb. This is among the many reasons why you won’t see Rush, Levin or Beck running for office.

I don’t buy the money aspect of this…
She already signed on to a very profitable book deal before leaving office….
I think it had to do with the fact that the Job sucked and she wanted to get out

Screw the radio, she needs go on policy lecture tours…. that’s the only she will expand her appeal if she plans on running.

I could care less if Obama drank a beer, wine, a shot, etc. The point is that Obama is lowering the office of the president. The man has no idea of his position. this is suppose to be the leader of the free world. you as president delagate this. no wonder he says he will meet with all the world dictators. He has no idea what it means to be president
