Report: Palin “testing the waters” for a radio deal

posted at 6:30 pm on July 28, 2009 by Allahpundit

What’s to “test”? She’ll draw the entire conservative base and a goodly chunk of the left as they tune in to channel the hate. Pay her whatever she wants and sign the deal.

Alaska’s now former Governor is coy about her future political plans, but radio is at least one option she’s leaving on the table. While not exactly shopping the GOP’s 2008 vice presidential candidate, sources say Palin representatives have been quietly testing the waters to see how much interest radio syndicators have for her.

Sources say Palin hasn’t committed to radio either, but rather it could be a possible next step for her.

I’m assuming this would mean short scripted commentaries, a la what Fred Thompson used to do when he subbed for Paul Harvey. A live show, especially if she took calls, would be … mind-boggling, and riveting. I’d honestly pay to listen. Plus, think how good she’d be in interviews after a few months of trial by fire fielding calls from deranged Palin-haters. “Line one, we have Andrew from Provincetown. Andrew, I understand you want to know who really carried my son Trig to term.”

The one downside of a live show: Lots of “whining” about the media. Lots.

Blowback

“Line one, we have Andrew from Provincetown. Andrew, I understand you want to know who really carried my son Trig to term.”

Indeed.

amerpundit on July 28, 2009 at 6:34 PM

No – I think this would be a mistake. The Dems would lump her in with Sean, Rush, etc.

She needs to be out there, giving speeches, campaigning.

stenwin77 on July 28, 2009 at 6:34 PM

Oh, come on. You’re not deranged .. much.

If Palin does a call in radio show she is going to need the industry’s very best call screener.

myrenovations on July 28, 2009 at 6:34 PM

jgapinoy on July 28, 2009 at 6:34 PM

Hopefully she’ll learn to drop the annoying tone (up an down as if she’s talking to a two-year-old) she gets into when delivering speeches. That’d go quite a ways to helping her prepare for a campaign.

amerpundit on July 28, 2009 at 6:35 PM

A live show could go a long way toward giving her some credibility as someone beyond the airheaded talking points-spouting ventriloquist’s dummy that the left likes to think of her as. You’ve got to think on your feet in talk radio.

Sign of the Dollar on July 28, 2009 at 6:35 PM

Palin had been great on the radio in the past. If she had her format, she would be a voice for conservatives and do well.

Here she is on the Michael Duke show with special call in from the detroit madman himself.

is there a problem with that? Seriously… her “g’s”?

You do realize 1/3rd of the population drops them.. right.

upinak on July 28, 2009 at 6:36 PM

The callers would be crazier than when Art Bell did open lines. I really hope it’s just radio commentaries like Reagan did in the late 70s.

Mark1971 on July 28, 2009 at 6:37 PM

Rush should start getting worried… and rightly so. When I heard that Palin was quitting, I thought that she was done with elected office and wanted to make money and this just confirms it.

Illinidiva on July 28, 2009 at 6:37 PM

She’d probably do better then Fred. As much as I like Mr Thompson he wasn’t meant to have a radio show (other than those Fred Thompson reports he did on ABC radio which were small little quips) His wife is a little better at talk radio than he is.

Mark1971 on July 28, 2009 at 6:40 PM

I so disagree w/those on “the panel”. What Sarah needs to do is connect and form a bond w/the Base. Better understand what they want. Their concerns. I do agree w/one thing that Krauthammer said, and that is its not going to help Sarah to go back and forth w/the MSM, sniping at each other. What she needs to do is completely ignore them. Be very selective who she gives interviews to, etc. The MSM has lost all their cred’s and it’ll be totally legit for Sarah to tune them out, brush them aside. She has a unique situation that priors haven’t enjoyed. The msm has shot themselves in both feet. DD

Kickin’, scratchin’, skippin’, hootin’, hollerin’, laughin’, cryin’, Palinpaloosa.

I’d rather she take the speaking tour route, but face it, that route will be ignored by the media. Palin on commuters radio waves, on the other hand, will leave liberal heads rolling along curbs all across America.

Limerick on July 28, 2009 at 6:45 PM

The best radio hosts have something in common. They had an interesting life for several years before they ever got near a national radio microphone. They have interesting tales to tell. I admire Palin as a conservative, as a politician, but I don’t think she has enough interesting tales to tell on a slow news day.

Who knows, she has the “it” factor on the podium, but I don’t know about radio.
