Palin Truther-in-chief oddly skeptical of Birtherism
posted at 8:49 pm on July 28, 2009 by Allahpundit
Mary Katharine does the honors but this post was bound to emerge somewhere in the blogosphere sooner or later. Like Kaus says, it’s fish in a barrel. The only person who won’t grasp the irony and hypocrisy instantly is Sullivan himself, who used to have as his tagline this line from Orwell: “To see what is in front of one’s nose needs a constant struggle.” Little did he know how constant.
It doesn’t happen terribly often, but I’m with Andrew Sullivan on the need to lay Obama birther-ism to rest— a subject on which he’s been blogging with some energy over the last day.
Indeed, it’s almost as if birthers have allowed an intense and sometimes irrational dislike of a political figure to lead them to conspiracy theories while rationalizing the indulgence with concerns about the vetting process and rants about the failed responsibilities of a complicit media. It’s almost like they continue to ignore evidence to the contrary of such theories in order to preserve their favored narrative long after the question (and election) is settled, even when induced to abandon it by friends, adversaries, and Occam’s Razor alike.
My only knock on MK is that she limits herself to Sully’s Trig-related conspiracy theories. In fact, his nuttiness goes way beyond that, or at least it did before I quit reading him two years ago. See this post from May 2007 for a few of his greatest anti-”neocon” hits. That was occasioned by him having the gall to accuse Michelle of 9/11 Trutherism, yet another instance of his bizarre blind spot to his own paranoia leaving him exposed as a hypocrite. Ed’s catalogued other examples. Oh, and he’s evidently still a believer in Trig Truth even though he now apparently claims to be agnostic about it: See Ace’s latest for details of that. Exit question from that post: He’s not seriously onto Willow as the prime suspect in Trig’s mysterious birth, is he?

But the press was awfully uncurious, and if everything was great about the man, they’d have trumpeted his history at Columbia, with ACORN, in Indonesia….etc

As opposed to what?
Someone who’s not working for Obama or the Democrats? Would that be alright?

At least Sully is candid & honest to a certain extent about the origins of his sexuality.

Here a conservative Christian group cites him repeatedly.

Anyway, any one else amused that the blue dye in M&Ms shows more promise for assisting patients with spinal injuries than say fetal stem cells?

You’re the only one with continual comprehension problems when reading my posts. Most of the rest don’t seem to be similarly afflicted. So, yes, it’s me.
Fair enough, but that doesn’t make what the MSM does or doesn’t do right.

Thanks for the insight into your world.
Wishing someone dead because you disagree with them pretty much makes you scum. Your uncle was unfortunate to have you for a nephew. AIDS can be medically explained. What’s the cause of your disease?

Jim Treacher on July 28, 2009 at 10:52 PM
The media should perform the same microscopic exam on ALL candidates, get their histories down pat, find their records, their theses, their associations. Instead they said Palin burned books and Obama was pure as the wind-driven snow (but pure because of what they hid not what they revealed)
clnurnberg on July 28, 2009 at 10:52 PM
Well, either seeing the birth certificate will placate the birthers, or it won’t. There’s no middle ground there…there’s no “it will help”…It’ll either put this finally to rest with you guys, or you’ll continue on about it.
So this doctor, and the governor of Hawaii (who’s a Republican), work for the Democrats?
JetBoy on July 28, 2009 at 10:52 PM
The funniest part about all of this arrived in the mail today. My daughter’s been in the same public school since she was age 5, and now that she’s about to enter 3rd grade, the school told us that the certificate of birth they have on file isn’t good enough. They need a copy of the original birth certificate.
I guess a school can demand a copy to let my daughter learn math, science and how to hug a tree without getting splinters, but it’s just WAY OUT THERE to ask the president of the US to stop spending a lot of money to keep classified a document that there should be no reason to hide if there’s, you know, nothing to hide.
And let the name calling commence…
DrAllecon on July 28, 2009 at 10:53 PM
You make it sound like “The Birthers” is some sort of hivemind. Some will, some won’t. I can speak only for myself.
Has she shown it to us? Or just said, “Yeah, I saw it”?

In light of his socialist policies and his disastrous preference for dictators of all stripes, I just wish the press had investigated this man instead of just having stood there looking dreamy eyed.
They can get GWB’s allegedly confidential academic records but not Kerry’s or Gore’s or Bama’s.
If the media had done anything approximating an “investigation” of Obama people would trust their judgement. They don’t. They know they were fed a lot of crap and are responding with mistrust.
clnurnberg on July 28, 2009 at 11:03 PM
She doesn’t have the authority to make it public. You won’t believe a Democrat…or a Republican either. So it’s apparent you won’t believe anyone.
According to yourself, seeing the birth certificate would only “help” put this to rest. But again, either it will, or it won’t. I haven’t seen a recent pic of the gold in Fort Knox, but I’m willing to bet it’s there.
JetBoy on July 28, 2009 at 11:04 PM
LOL! I almost felt like writing them back, “I’ll show you hers when the President shows us his.” But I don’t want to cause that kind of trouble for my kid. They can always hurt us more.
DrAllecon on July 28, 2009 at 11:04 PM
Let’s put Dan Rather and Mary Mapes on the document verification hunt.
That is their specialty after all, and it takes courage. Courage. Courage.
Brian1972 on July 28, 2009 at 11:04 PM
And the “undocumented” aliens are welcomed with open arms, while you must get a “real” birth certificate.
clnurnberg on July 28, 2009 at 11:08 PM
There’s a leap of logic. They don’t have the authority to make it public, so I wouldn’t believe them if they did make it public. I think you’re being a bit silly.
So: Using the word “help” means I’m lying, and also Fort Knox. Wow, you’re good at this.
Jim Treacher on July 28, 2009 at 11:09 PM
Very true, and I even get the pleasure of paying (through my taxes) for the privelege of treating them at work, as well as for their children’s education.

I’m not really expecting a cogent response, but, I’ll try anyway… (must be the evangelist in me – looking for a dialog based on reason and logic…)
Some of us don’t “claim otherwise;” we just question why so much of this President’s life is under seal.
Why go to the trouble and expense of hiding your birth records, academic transcripts, records of your work with the Annenberg foundation, college writings, etc.
President O’bama’s entire life is hidden from public disclosure. The birth records are simply the most eggregious example.
I know you have a reputation as a smarmy, hit-and-run troll,. so here’s your chance to answer, (with logic, and verifiable facts and citations;) why hide so much of your past away, except that it contains unsavory facts?
massrighty on July 28, 2009 at 11:33 PM
Sweet, sweet irony.

Of course they’re not going to speak out against Obama, he’s their boy. He’s a messiah to them!

Trig Trutherism was the Obama campaign’s response to how immediately most American women liked and trusted Sarah Palin. When Palin made her debut in Dayton, OH, the left collectively soiled their pants. The Obama campaign sure did. So, what did they do? They attacked her as a mother and as an American.
1. She was irresponsible for getting on that flight.
2. She faked her pregnancy and locked her daughter up in the basement so she couldn’t have an abortion.
3. Her daughter was a whore, because Palin never chained her up in the basement to keep her from having sex.
4. Palin charged women for rape kits.
5. Palin is a bad mother.
6. Todd and Sarah Palin belong to an anti-American secessionist party.
7. Sarah Palin abused her power as Governor by pursuing personal vendettas.
8. She doesn’t believe in dinosaurs, God “talks to her” and she thinks gays can cure themselves through prayer.
9. She called Obama a terrorist and incited whole crowds to scream “kill him!”
10. She can’t spell potato.
For every single one of these, you can see where Obama himself is guilty of as much if not worse. The Dems lack imagination, but you can guarantee that if they accuse their opponents of something, they’re doing it themselves. That’s the number one reason I’m a “birther” … because I was a “racist” during the election for asking questions and looking at Obama’s record. I am now being asked to blindly trust a pathological liar, and I know he’s hiding something.
The GOP needs a J. Edgar Hoover. I want all the dirt possible on our Resident, and somebody needs to undertake the digging.

MadisonConservative to Treacher:
Ummm, Nope, Treacher is not the only one who has problems with damn near everything you write. You are often wrong, snarky, and not at all well thought out.
So- Yes, it is you, MadCon.
ExTex on July 29, 2009 at 10:01 AM
While I’m not in the birther camp I do think Obama brought this on himself by refusing to release his BC when this first surfaced. He created the appearance that he had something to hide – just like he did with his education records, etc.
People looking for him to be ineligible would have had no basis for their suspicions if in the beginning he had made public the same proof most of us have to show when we get a DL or a passport.
katiejane on July 29, 2009 at 10:58 AM
This will never be laid to rest until he shows the long form of his birth certificate and all of his records. This will fester as long as you make “Birthers” a perjorative. This is a Constitutional problem and it won’t go away until it is settled.
BetseyRoss on July 29, 2009 at 11:07 AM
I was told the same thing at the DMV, when I was trying to get a California license after moving here from out of state. They wouldn’t take my birth certificate as proof of US citizenship, I needed to go home and get my passport.
Me, stupidly: “You mean the passport I used this birth certificate to get?”
DMV: “That’s right.”
So California has stricter, albeit nonsensical, requirements for issuing driver’s licenses than we have for vetting a Presidential candidate.
I’m not a “birther,” but it’s just plain dumb.

…and ask…then be told…and ask…then be told…and ask…then be told…and ask…then be told…and ask…and be told…
Riddle:
1)How many facts does it take to prove Obama was born in Hawaii?
2)How many facts does it take for a birther to believe he wasn’t born in Hawaii?

Answer, read backwards:
1)detimilnu
2)enon

While I agree that Sullivan’s Trig obsession is ridiculous and that it doesnt fit with his (far more sane) anti-Birtherism, some of your other anti-Sullivan stuff from the links seems goofy.
You criticized him for “just airing” some theories that he explicitly didnt endorse, yet you think it was horrible for him to criticize Malkin for a column about 9/11 entitled “Just Wondering“.
Maybe he’s hypocritical for that, but if so, you are too.
