Fox News poll: Plurality thinks best job for Palin would be … homemaker?
posted at 3:27 pm on July 27, 2009 by Allahpundit
Not as partisan an outcome as you might think. Of the six options given — president, VP, talk-show host, college professor, homemaker, and “other” — homemaker was the top pick by far of Democrats and independents and the second choice of Republicans behind VP. Perhaps my definition of “best” is more nuanced than most of America’s, but is a woman who’s capable of making untold millions delivering speeches really “best” served by being a full-time mom?
Intriguing footnote: The strongest support for “college professor” comes from Democrats.

Elsewhere, some corroboration for WaPo’s poll last Friday showing her net favorable rating at -13. Fox got the same number despite a more forgiving partisan sample — D40/R34/I24 compared to WaPo’s D33/R22/I41. Note the trend since January:

If you’re wondering how the moron whom she lost to stacks up, his net approval rating’s momentarily at +22. Amazingly, despite only 12 percent of Republicans saying the presidency would be the “best job” for Palin, she’s actually gained ground in the 2012 horse race since May, up four points to 17 percent while Huck’s lost a point to settle at 20. (Romney also jumped four points and leads with 22.) Exit question: What explains the drop off in her favorable rating since April? Is it all resignation backlash or did l’affaire Letterman have something to do with it too? While you ponder, here’s round two of Coulter vs. Frum on Palin from this morning’s Early Show. Given these numbers, Frum picked the right day to push his nevah evah meme — but note Coulter’s excellent point about the media’s excuse for laying off John Edwards last year about the baby rumors. I have a feeling we’re about to find out that some “private citizens” are more equal than others.

The irony is that NOW will agree with that sentiment claiming that she should be home raising her children because she shouldn’t be sacrificing their needs but Michelle Obama should be given wider control in the White House.
Skywise on July 27, 2009 at 3:30 PM
If she had received a fair shake by the press (let alone as idolizing as they gave Obama) she would be VP right now. Then the poll would be should McCain run for a second term or give way to Palin?

Considering the question was “what is the best job for Palin NOW THAT SHE HAS RESIGNED”, i’d say ‘homemaker’ too.
There isn’t an election until 2012.

her popularity problem is simple to understand:
1) the political Double Standard we know that exist
2) the power and shamelessness of the MSM
Joe Blow voter hears nothing but the ridiculous screaching(and Lies in many cases) and never the truth about Palin. Therefore to them she is a “Quitter” and “Unethical liar” because the Left/MSM told them so.

I have NEVER liked the fox poll. I think it is totally irrelevent. Just in the fact that the poll TOTALLY contradicts itself. Only 12% think president would be the best job, but 17% would vote for her. Once again she is solidly in the top 3 of the horserace.

I didn’t see it in the list…. of the list, other than leading a sort of Ron-Paul-REVOlution to overthrow the govt (and then bizzarely install herself as VICE president), the only possible choices would be:
-talk show host
-college professor
-homemaker
TV host fits the ‘stupid’ meme, professor would be odd without an advanced degree (though she could be some sort of emeritus lecturer?). Considering her family, i say homemaker makes the most sense of the three

its interesting because I got in an argument with a young Liberal Female(who claimed she was no liberal) who went nuts over the mention of Sarah Palin. I mean the venom started brewing and she literally said Palin should be at home and out of Public life for good. That Palin was a huge “Idiot”, was “Stupid” and is a “Quitter”
and also that all the Ethics complaints were valid. Went completely off the rails. So I then pointed out the new feminism must be to “Get back in the kitchen”

Hopefully I will remember that every liberal woman who dares try and play with the boys deserves being told get back to your kitchen and your kids. And if she doesn’t have children there should be serious discussion about her status as a woman- since apparently Dems think that is correct role for women. And Hillary should be spending more time pushing her daughter to pop out some grandchildren.

not sure I’d go there if i was her(it would draw attention though), that bill is mostly about populism and economic anxiety than it is substantive. They already audit the Fed as part of its charter, true they claim they want a different kind of audit but whatever. Also included in it is a dangerous attempt to place Monetary Policy making powers into the hands of Nancy Pelosi, Barney Frank and Obama defacto. I’ll take my chances with Bernanke and the Board Governors, removed from political debate.
she has to be careful what she picks and chooses to speak on for awhile.
jp on July 27, 2009 at 3:43 PM
These results make sense to me:
A good portion of Democrats look down on both Palin and homemaking and therefore, think they’re a perfect match for each other. A ‘housewife’ is someone that is dumb and needs a man to take care of her while she does stupid, menial tasks like vacuuming and raising children. The only people suited for it are women so dumb to avoid it, ergo, it’s the best job for “stupid Sarah Palin”.
On the flip side, a good portion of Republicans both respect homemaking and Sarah Palin. They consider raising a family to be a tough and rewarding job and that’s likely why you have the high numbers there.
Which is not to say that there aren’t people on the Rep side that voted for homemaker because they want SP to disappear forever because they consider her an embarrassment to the party. I just don’t think the numbers are so cut and dry as to suggest that everyone picked it for the same reasons.
As for the Coulter vs. Frum clip, I think it was a bit ridiculous that Frum implied Palin was divisive because she campaigned for one candidate over another in a Republican primary. Why is she divisive for campaigning but the candidates aren’t divisive for running? People are allowed to choose sides and candidates during primaries, last time I checked.
JadeNYU on July 27, 2009 at 3:43 PM

I always thought Puckabee would be good on Fox and Friends or discussing back to school fashions on the Today Show like her nemesis Katie Couric, that is before Katie became the astute and tough as nails interviewer who plays a game of verbal chess better than anyone else, with the political IQ to twist any politician into a pretzel whenever she wishes, at least that is what Puckabee supporters make Katie out to be now.

guntotinglibertarian on July 27, 2009 at 3:44 PM
What on earth is Frum blathering about?
The state of Alaska generates revenue from oil companies from various fees to allow access to public property (to extract oil), and Palin then – quite correctly – gives a chunk of this money to the very people it rightfully belongs to.
She did not steal money from their paychecks, then turn around and attempt to bribe them with their own hard-earned cash.
One of these things is not like the other. Distributing revenue is not the same as distributing taxes. One is economic stimulation, the other is socialist theft.

I find the smug opinions about women who choose to stay at home, and raise their children, as opposed to a day care, or sitter, or nanny raising them, offensive. There is no shame in any woman choosing to be a home maker. It’s as honest as any job that pays, and home makers do it for free, and out of love.
I believe Palin is a bright, energetic woman, who knows her way around politics, so I will say, God bless her in any venture she chooses. Be it a house wife, or professor, I support her decisions.

CARL BERNSTEIN: I think there’s a fundamental problem in the way we have viewed [Palin] perhaps too seriously since she was a candidate, when we should have viewed her seriously. She’s a demagogue. She’s ignorant. She’s a flake [said the Red Diaper Baby].
MIKA BRZEZINSKI [whose instinct is to give Palin a fair shake]: Oh boy.
BERNSTEIN: And I think there’s a kind of obeisance that the conservative movement has paid to this person. If a liberal Democrat were to be in a similar position, conservatives would run her out of town, as would sensible Democrats . . .[McCain] committed an almost unpatriotic act in picking Sarah Palin because she’s manifestly unqualified for high office
….
JONATHAN CAPEHART: I absolutely agree with Carl, 100%. I’ve been mystified and fascinated by her rise and her presence on the national stage.
