Fox News poll: Plurality thinks best job for Palin would be … homemaker?

Not as partisan an outcome as you might think. Of the six options given — president, VP, talk-show host, college professor, homemaker, and “other” — homemaker was the top pick by far of Democrats and independents and the second choice of Republicans behind VP. Perhaps my definition of “best” is more nuanced than most of America’s, but is a woman who’s capable of making untold millions delivering speeches really “best” served by being a full-time mom?
Intriguing footnote: The strongest support for “college professor” comes from Democrats.

Elsewhere, some corroboration for WaPo’s poll last Friday showing her net favorable rating at -13. Fox got the same number despite a more forgiving partisan sample — D40/R34/I24 compared to WaPo’s D33/R22/I41. Note the trend since January:

If you’re wondering how the moron whom she lost to stacks up, his net approval rating’s momentarily at +22. Amazingly, despite only 12 percent of Republicans saying the presidency would be the “best job” for Palin, she’s actually gained ground in the 2012 horse race since May, up four points to 17 percent while Huck’s lost a point to settle at 20. (Romney also jumped four points and leads with 22.) Exit question: What explains the drop off in her favorable rating since April? Is it all resignation backlash or did l’affaire Letterman have something to do with it too? While you ponder, here’s round two of Coulter vs. Frum on Palin from this morning’s Early Show. Given these numbers, Frum picked the right day to push his nevah evah meme — but note Coulter’s excellent point about the media’s excuse for laying off John Edwards last year about the baby rumors. I have a feeling we’re about to find out that some “private citizens” are more equal than others.

To state it quite simply, most of the pundits are ivory-tower snotheads who think they know better than the bucktoothed hicks in the flyover states, shills for same, or useful idiots used by same.

A. They really don’t want any Republican ideas in the healthcare debate until the bill passes.
B. If it can damage him, it’ll be more useful later in the cycle.

The difference between Palin and ANY Democrat woman always reminds me of Palin’s values of life, and this song.

great thread, I hope Palin wins the nomination going away in 2012. By the way, whose that man with the horse face?
greataunty on July 27, 2009 at 9:47 PM
So when they hate Sarah Palin, they are in effect hating any ambition people like her might have to keep say, their FREEDOMS!
exdeadhead on July 27, 2009 at 10:27 PM
David Frum is a loquacious dolt. He is a living, breathing irony, in that, if Sarah Palin were to retire to a quiet, private life, David Frum would be looking for work at the local men’s clothing store.
But here’s my exit question David dahling:
If she were to run, and if she were to win, would you then become her biggest cheerleader? After all, that would mean she would have resurrected the GOP, and that is your main concern, right dahling?

Interesting name, do you care to share with us when you had the epiphany?
Saltysam on July 27, 2009 at 10:33 PM
They’ve been picking our candidates for us for years and years…why would we think they’re going to stop now?
Frum’s a snot. Palin didn’t raise taxes on the oil companies. The oil reserves are the property of the State of Alaska thus belong to the people of Alaska. The people of Alaska have received disbursements from oil revenues long before Sarah Palin got into office.
Now, if you’re a company that say, mines minerals from Federal lands they’ll be able to do it for next to nothing.
Dr. ZhivBlago on July 27, 2009 at 11:05 PM
What I meant to say, these were not ‘taxes’ as such. They are charges for the minerals that belong to the state of Alaska.
Dr. ZhivBlago on July 27, 2009 at 11:07 PM
You know, I forget who said it, but on FOX(?) today, someone said they thought she might do a speaking tour a la Reagan for General electric. i think that might be the perfect way for her to work on her chops.

What’s “devisive” is having to listen to a brain dead gap-toothed Pepto-Bismol sucking RINO troll like Frum “On this Network” , in order to to get a couple of quality minutes with Ann Coulter. . .

In Frum’s case, twas probably a traumatic infantile neurosis that prevented him from negotiating the perils of lusting after his mother, ie Oedipus complex. I suspect mommy disapproved of his wee willy waving, and David’s had issues with strong women ever since.
Interesting too, that his mummy evidently engaged in some journalistic denial viz women haters as well:
She [Barbara Frum] angered many in 1989 when she refused to acknowledge that the École Polytechnique massacre by a killer who proclaimed as he shot and stabbed women, “I hate feminists!” was an attack on women and feminism.
Well since Davey’s a US citizen now, since 2007, maybe Obamacare will provide a shrink that specializes in damaged journalistic fruit, that fell on its head from a journalisticly damaged tree?

Its gonna be her VS Hillary if anything and thats gonna stink. BO is setting Hillary up for slam dunks to make her look good in her pant-suited SOS job.
Palin is such a damn babe it hurts her I think. What has me so aggrevated is the dirty old man mentality still lingering, sort of like what CBS has. Women are so much further along that we can stop counting how many women do whatever until this dirty old man crap from the 40′ and 50’s stirs up.
Now to promote Hillary over Sarah Palin is going to be interesting because one is a cackling hag riding coattails and the other is a charming babe with some impressive brains. Now who do you think will win? right, the one who plays the dirtiest. This means Sarah Palin needs to quit being the nice clean girl. It aint workin. How the hell she’ll do it is beyond me. She gets better looking everyday. I never thought I’d see the day that that would be a bad thing. But Cackling hag Hillary will stay back in the dark corner and emerge. I think this health care thing has her fingerprints all over it though. If it succeeds, she’ll say it was all her idea. If it fails (which it will) she’ll say sorry BO, then she’ll try it again another time.
johnnyU on July 28, 2009 at 9:11 AM
The anti-Palin crowd is going to use the same argument that was used against Hillary….she’s divisive.
Except, it’s not going to work this time.
AnninCA on July 28, 2009 at 9:37 AM
Well sure … anyone going against the status quo is divisive. No one has done that for decades.

David Frum is indicative of the many “pundits” who either don’t know what they’re talking about or deliberately lie to make a point.
One of the very first interviews I watched of Sarah Palin back when she was first picked for VP was about how the Alaska Constitution is so very different from other state constitutions, especially when it comes to natural resources and energy. Per the state Constitution, the people of Alaska are the owners of all it’s natural resources. Including its oil and gas reserves.
Sarah Palin did not “give away” $1200 to the people because of politics. She did not spread the wealth by taxing the rich to “help” the poor. She made sure that the people got the rightful profit they were entitled to under the Constitution of Alaska.
Palin partnered with big business, allowed them to make their profit in accordance with their risk and capital investment, and then took the state’s part of that profit and instead of letting mix into the general fund, she had the state cut a check to the people who are the owners.
Alaska should be the model for the rest of the country. Let big oil do what it does best and reap the rewards for it. Then give the states share of the profits directly to the people.
Palin has explained this many times and I can only assume that people who don’t understand why it makes sense simply can’t understand the notion of the people as shareholders.

Okay Abby, yesterday you and I had a conversation about women and the GOP and I accused this site of promoting a failing attitude towards women. LOOK AT THIS HEADLINE.
Now please explain to me how this site is not doing exactly what I said it was doing….
Yes I read the patronizing remarks below the headline. And then the powers that be wonder why the majority of women don’t vote GOP….
Carolina Kat on July 28, 2009 at 10:40 AM
I’d say Frum is already working for Romney or Pawlenty and just hasn’t announced it. It’s clear this is a talking point. He’s counting on people not knowing this. What’s nuts? This is actually well known.
AnninCA on July 28, 2009 at 11:03 AM
The poll itself is quite odd. What’s the point? It seems devised to elicit the same information we already have about her ratings right now.
I suggest that she’ll weather this quite nicely, and she’ll pick up steam when it’s time to do so.
First, she’s going to write her book.
AnninCA on July 28, 2009 at 11:07 AM
That’s it. I can’t take it anymore. (Guys, cover me, I’m going for it.)
I took ESL courses at college. I know what it feels like to have learned English for many years, only to be shocked when you realize that twelve years of English was not enough.
People who take these courses here have come to this country to have a better life, to better themselves and their families in this nation that has offered them that opportunity. They, like anyone in this country who want to succeed, represent what is good and great about this nation. Those are the people the Democrats want to see dependent all of their lives. The fact that many choose not to be dependent upon anyone but themselves is a REPUDIATION of everything the Democrat Socialists represent here.
As far as I know, Sarah didn’t need ESL. In fact, her grades were exceptional. Sarah’s father was a high school science teacher. (Being the child of teachers is what she and I have in common.) As a child (and everyone who knew her then can tell you) she was submerged inside books – and still is. She had to pay for college all by HERSELF – and graduated not owing a soul a penny. (How much of YOUR student loans do YOU still owe?) She went into commercial fishing with Todd, and succeeded. They lived a comfortable life before she became involved in politics. If ANYONE in this nation is a success story, it is her.
As a former ESL student, I feel free to say this to you. You are a gusano. A worm.
You have nothing useful to say or to do here, but to hurl insults at anything and anyone. For your generation, nothing is sacred – not even someone’s drive to succeed. If anything, you and your ilk want to tax that drive to succeed out of existence in this country.
What drives you to do this here, and about her, is nothing else than envy – one of the Seven Deadly Sins. Since she did what YOU could not, you want her to fail, so you can feel good about yourself. Tell me: what did YOU do to earn a six-figure income after graduating from college with not a student loan debt chained to your ankles? That’s right: you did not. That’s why you come here: to insult, denigrate and dehumanize those who do. What drives you also is your HATE of her, because she has done what you could not, and she must be destroyed because of it.
Sarah’s waaaay beyond her IHOP waitress days. She can do whatever she darned well pleases from now on, pay her debts, and be debt-free and financially set for the rest of her life. If she publishes a book, I WILL buy a copy. I can’t wait for all of us to bring that book to the No. 1 spot of the NYT Bestseller’s list – for a long time, if we can. I will help make it so, to make sure her kids are set – especially Trig, whom you seem to HATE with every fiber of your being as his mother.
I’m not going to say that you’re part of The Problem. You ARE The Problem. Your actions here are an insult to all of us here… Nah – YOU ARE the INSULT.
If you had any shame, you would slither away, back into obscurity, like a snake would. But you don’t, because you LIVE to hurt others. You would probably not be happy until the last one of us was out of this area, including Allah, Cap’n Ed, and Michelle.
I’m not going to ask them to ban you, nor demand it. If you had any shame at all, you would do so yourself. But we know that you don’t. Because you are a gusano. Maybe the best thing we can do is not to ban you, or exile you, but to stomp you and your Leftists friends like the worm that you are.
We’re working on it, and we’re patient. The poet said “Beware the Fury of a Patient Man.” When our patience is gone, you will be sorry. You can take that to your pawn shop.

Newton, you should be very proud of your achievements. You have spoken well for all of us here. I appreciate your story. You are right, I feel that the nastiness about Palin is caused by people’s jealousy. Thank you.

Is this a Freudian slip or PDS by Norah? I hear “whore” as did my wife. Whore? Really?

Let Palin be a housewife…AND LET TODD PALIN GET HIS MANHOOD BACK! So says Debbie Schlussel at least.
What do you think of that neocon trash?
BobAnthony on July 28, 2009 at 2:38 PM
Debbie Schlussel, at least based on what she says in that post about the “right reasons” for hating Palin, is your typical woman.
Women are horrible to other women. They really are.

Sad, but true.

As evidenced by your remark. Good job.
The Race Card on July 28, 2009 at 10:27 PM
I was talking with someone today. He is pretty much of an independent. When Palin came up he started with the “She’s a dunce” crap. It wasn’t a time for arguing but my thought is “Have you listened to Biden at all?”
I think the problem was that the lamestream media, SNL and the democraps pulled an effective alinsky on her. As I see it, she was muzzled by McCain and his staff, probably because of respect for him. The democraptic engines were ready for her and she didn’t have time to respond.
However, now that she is free of the governorship, she can take her own path. I’m not sure how many of the “I am really informed. I watch Hardball all the time” crowd can be enlightened.
I still get a warm fuzzy feeling when I imagine liberal heads exploding when the hear “Today the house of Representatives elected Sarah Palin as Speaker of the House”.
