Birthermania: House Democrat to introduce resolution on Obama being born in Hawaii

posted at 6:04 pm on July 27, 2009 by Allahpundit

Another time-wasting resolution in the House, but unlike McCotter’s, this one’s at least smart politics. How many Republicans will choke on it?

The measure Abercrombie will introduce commemorates the 50th anniversary of Hawaii’s statehood. But here’s the rub, his spokesman tells me: It describes Hawaii as Barack Obama’s birthplace.

“In the language of the resolution, there is a statement that Hawaii is the birthplace of the 44th President of the United States,” Abercrombie spokesman Dave Helfert confirms.

That confronts House GOPers with a choice: They can vote for the measure, and endorse the idea that Obama was born in Hawaii, which could earn the wrath of birthers. Or they can vote against commemorating the 50th state’s joining of our blessed Union. Or GOPers can skip the vote, but that could look nutty.

“Far be it from us to try to stir things up,” Helfert said puckishly.

Dude, what if Ron Paul votes yes? Would that mean Birtherism’s too kooky even for the rEVOLution? Exit question: There’s going to be a full-fledged “Produce the Birth Certificate” third party once 2012 rolls around, isn’t there? And when they’re not allowed to participate in any of the televised debates, they’re going to whine forever.

not a chance in hell he does that. Though he does like Obama and the Dems more than the GOP so who knows.

actually every GOP should vote yes and pretty much that will undercut the stupidity of the media elites who failed to paint all opposition to the President as racist, un-American, or neo-nazi’s.

rob verdi on July 27, 2009 at 6:09 PM

Great. The GOP can vote on it when Obama shows an AG the long-form vault copy of his birth certificate.

Based on the Dem resolution, the Republicans should turn around and resolve that Hawaii must be in Kenya, obviously.

Expose his lying, racist ways. Or, he can produce evidence that he is a natural born citizen. Not a big deal, except if evidence is not readily available. Or he is lying. There are numerous examples of his deceit, and racism. Why trust him ?

frizzbee on July 27, 2009 at 6:11 PM

Ron Paul won’t vote yes, not because he is a birther but because he doesn’t vote yes on stupid commemorative legislation that does nothing but waste time.

thphilli on July 27, 2009 at 6:11 PM

SEEN THE BEAUTY OF THE ANCIENT DANCE
LOVELY HANDS THAT TELL A THRILLING STORY

LOVELY HULA HANDS
GRACEFUL AS A BIRD IN MOTION
GLIDING LIKE THE GULLS

LOVELY HULA HANDS

WHITE HAWAII SANDS
NOTHING IN THIS TROPIC SPLENDOR,

LOVELY HULA HANDS

WHEN OUR FINGERTIPS ARE MEETING,
GENTLY THEY CONVEY
MORE THAN WORDS CAN SAY;
AND MY HEART SO MADLY BEATING,
GLADLY UNDERSTANDS
ALL THE TENDER MEANING
OF YOUR HULA HANDS
FINGERTIPS THAT SAY “ALOHA”
SAY TO ME AGAIN “I LOVE YOU”

Just because they pass a resolution stating that hawaii is his birthplace..doesn’t mean that it actually happened there.

This is what a real birth certificate is for.

Just produce the birth certificate and shut up about it(or be removed from office)..depending on the results.

you’re right… RP will almost certainly vote against it, and will likely be the only “No” vote. Which will certainly place the birther clowns in an interesting position of being in agreement with him, and in disagreement with the entire rest of the Congressional party.

As far as the cost… look at it this way:

If all the House of Representatives did, all day, every day, was pass non-binding resolutions, think how much money they wouldn’t waste by actually passing legislation, and how much freer a people we would be as a result.

AS A BIRTHER– can I say something? I am not so interested in seeing Certificates of Live Birth, because I’m already convinced he’s illegit, as he is not a Natural Born Citizen by Constitutional wording. Gibbs keeps repeating that Hussein is a “citizen,” and he may be. But he’s NOT a NBC, which makes a big difference. His father was Kenyan.

If this gets to a vote on the House floor, hurray– the movement has hit a nerve. But it won’t, as it puts Hussein squarely on the spot about it. He needs to make it disappear, not get a vote on the House floor. So all you nervous nellies, wringing your hands over those “I’m a Birther, and I Vote” types, CHILL OUT.

Besides, the legal challenges started with a Democrat, Philp Berg.

Can they then pass a resolution that ice is cold? That ice is hot? One is true and neither change the essential characteristics of ice. I tend to think that this issue is a loser for Republicans, but I don’t know where Obama was born any more then the various congresscritters who will vote on this resolution. Saying it doesn’t make it so – and it doesn’t make it more so if it is already so.

Obama’s best argument is that a majority of the voting public thought it unimportant and voted for him anyway. No matter what the birthers do, Obama will just filibuster – it is not like John Kerry ever turned over his complete military records.

holdfast on July 27, 2009 at 6:31 PM

I’ve no idea whether Obama is really a US citizen or not, but the thought of him stepping down and handing the Oval Office to Joe Biden, and thereby putting Pelosi a heartbeat away from the Presidency is just too awful to contemplate.
