Video: “Obama in Mom Jeans”

posted at 11:41 am on July 26, 2009 by Ed Morrissey

Via Justin Higgins, comedian Greg Morton offers a musical tribute to both Barack Obama and our own Allahpundit, whose Twitter post set off a national phenomenon. On WGN’s Bob and Tom show, Morton sings a paean to Obama’s fashion sense, set to the music of Neil Diamond’s “Forever in Blue Jeans.” Not only are the lyrics hilarious, but Morton does a good job in singing it, too. Maybe something else for all two of the Hip-Hop Republicans to promote? I sense a winner!

Well, it’ll be interesting to see if “I Won” sics Rahm on the radio station. Maybe explain that they have this “License To Operate” and it’s be a shame, you know, if it wasn’t renewed… hint hint hint.

After all, that’s the way what passes for government works in Chicago. :)

AW1 Tim on July 26, 2009 at 12:03 PM

Pretty darn funny. The guy has a good voice as well as a sense of humor. “Pantywaist”… lol. Hopefully the comedians gloves will soon come off. I highly doubt Obama has a sense of humor when he is the subject. Others yeah. He definitely laughs at others.

One thing that has always made me laugh hysterically is when a witty person would comically change the lyrics around in a song. I have a few friends who are masters at this. Greg Morton is one of the best at it. His lyrics are hilarious and he has a great singing voice.

A big win for AP!

Do not underestimate the impact of stuff like this; when a politician becomes the butt of jokes routinely, it actually manages to degrade their power.

Dusty on July 26, 2009 at 12:43 PM

Again Greg Morton nails it, his lyrics right on.

As to jeans, where I’m from, the former Republic of Texas, real men wear Wranglers and occasionally Levis. And even our girlie boys don’t wear Mom Jeans. Hell, even most of our women wouldn’t ne caught dead in ‘em.

TXUS on July 26, 2009 at 12:44 PM

This is SO clever!

This is more than a joke–it’s DERISION.

On a more somber note, if Mr. Morton weren’t black, would some people be screaming that this parody is racist?

Great stuff! I love song parodies when they’re well-written like this one.

Who knew there were hip-hop Republicans?

My sisters and I like to get together and sing, and we make up a lot of the lyrics for the words we can’t remember. We get to laughing so hard we about wet our pants.

At least he’s black. Otherwise the whole thing would be termed racist with declarations that blacks just naturally have bigger backsides. Al Sharpton would be demanding the radio hosts be fired. Etc. There is a formula to these things.

This depends (pun) on your point of view (bad pun). Remember the early jokes about his build? Why the Washing Post later went ga ga over his pecs on a photo of him coming out of the water like Neptune. His noodle arms were forgotten. I wonder if we shall hear any jokes about this on Letterman?

D’OH, oops…!

rockbend on July 26, 2009 at 2:00 PM

As I’ve posited before, ridicule and scorn perhaps deprive leaders political capital faster and more effectively than most anything else. Which is why authoritarians fear it most, ie; Pres. Zadari’s reaction to jokes about him in Pakistan…..

http://news.sky.com/skynews/Home/World-News/Pakistan-President-Asif-Ali-Zardari-Bans-All-Jokes-About-Himself/Article/200907415343904

Whatever it says about us humans, comedy has the ability to cement a meme in the public conciousness that once established, is all but impossible to eradicate.

Perhaps Chevy Chase’s depiction of Gerald Ford as supreme clutz best demonstrated this phenomenon, this despite Ford’s being a star player on the perennial powerhouse Michigan Wolverines’ and taking two national championships at the time. This innacurate impression of Ford carries on to this day.

Therefore IMHO, if the GOP truly wishes to regain prominence it would seriously and concertedly devote sometime and effort in this genre.

BTW speaking of sex appeal — I had community college type libs kibitz that The One’s wife was better looking that Ann Coulter, Laura Ingraham and several others on FOX. The real shock came when a few worthies on a fighting venue told me that Michelle was better looking than former Governor Palin. The fashion media seems to agree. Palin gets lambasted for the price of her stuff while Michelle gets lionized. Some fairness.

IlikedAUH2O on July 26, 2009 at 2:06 PM

All star game . .
you don’t play baseball but you took good aim,
and now I’m wondering how could this be?
I’m shocked to see . . .
Obama in mom jeans.

Mr President:
do you think that your money was well spent?
It looks to me just like you didn’t care,
you went to ladies’ wear . . .
to pick up some mom jeans.

Baby tonight . . .
We can go shop ’til we drop
at the mall you and I;
We’ll go ask the chap at the Gap:
does my butt look too wide?

Be a man,
those mom jeans need some kind of bailout plan;
I watched you wind up and throw out the first pitch,
you looked like a bitch . . .
wearing those mom jeans.

Pantywaist:
it looks just like your manhood’s been misplaced,
and now I’m asking you,
I’ve got one thing to say:
Shop at Target (Tar-jay), get rid of those mom jeans.
