Poll: What was the Obamateurism of the Week?
posted at 9:17 am on July 26, 2009 by Ed Morrissey
I can probably guess which Obamateurism this week will win today’s poll, but unlike our President, I’ll avoid jumping to conclusions. I’ve found that I get fewer inefficiencies in the OOTW system, although Barack Obama seems to like them in health care. That probably won’t matter as much as the fact that Obama went through two years in Congress without realizing that his own party was in charge, although his entire tenure as a Senator amounted to a legislation-prevention program, and weren’t those the good ol’ days? For that, you can expect to not see him blaming those rotten, no-good, meanie Republicans … right?
Previous “winners”:
- Obama salutes the Ghana flag
- Obama jokes about Alaska sale with Russians
- Obama uses union and DNC plants at health-care town hall
- Obama plants a question on Iran with HuffPo
- Change in Iran coming because “Obviously, after the speech I made in Cairo…”
- Flashing his soles to the camera while talking to Netanyahu
- “If you actually took the number of Muslim Americans, we’d be one of the largest Muslim countries in the world.”
- “We can no longer afford to spend as if deficits do not matter and waste is not our problem.”
- Siccing Tim Geithner and Charlie Rangel on tax cheats
- Phony Churchill quote on torture throws Grandpa under the bus
- Torture probe flip-flop
- Obama covers up IHS while quoting Jesus
- Austrian is a language?
- Obama bows to the Saudi king
- 1908 Model T got better gas mileage than today’s SUVs
Addendum: Normally I’d put a link to Chris Muir’s Day by Day site here, but today I want to do more than that. Chris has a fundraising drive to keep his excellent cartoon alive. Be sure to drop a few dollars in his collection to keep one of the Rightosphere’s most talented warriors in the fight!

It is not just Obama, I would say that most Democrats forgot who was in control of Congress for the last two years.
Terrye on July 26, 2009 at 1:31 PM
Uh, we can all multitask.
atheling on July 26, 2009 at 1:36 PM
Obama’s main problem is that most people want to believe him. First, he said that Congress should spend $787 billion dollars without reading the bill because we are in a Depression worse than the 1930′s. So Congress did. Now he says “let’s experiment with 20 percent of the economy we have left becuase it’s the right thing to do.” No it’s not the right thing to do now, if we are in the worse economic situation since 1933. You can’t have it both ways.

“Forgetting” who ran Congress for the past 2 years should have been the top vote-getter in a normal week, but the Gates thing is just too huge. Nobody even noticed Obama claiming the Republicans controlled Congress for 8 years. Everybody is talking about the Gates fiasco.
ThereGoesTheNeighborhood on July 26, 2009 at 1:53 PM
That may all be true, but it’s still a huge gaffe because of how badly it backfired.
ThereGoesTheNeighborhood on July 26, 2009 at 1:55 PM
To say that bho did this on purpose is giving him way too much credit. He’s a very average lib in an un-average job. He shoots from the lip when totus isn’t around.
I’m thinking of Chris Farley’s “interviews” from SNL; “STUPID, STUPID, STUPID.”

Maybe I’m paying too much attention to this RACISM thing, but doesn’t it seem a bit RACIST to suggest that an Irish-American cop should meet with two African-American “intellectuals” for A BEER…
texabama on July 26, 2009 at 2:31 PM
This demonstrates not only is amateurism as a president, but as an attorney as well.
He’s not very convincing at all – he’s an awful salesman and a poor debater. I’d love to see what his grades were like. I would venture to guess that he was not a straight-A student.
UltimateBob on July 26, 2009 at 2:43 PM
texabama —
exactly right, if you mean it is all RACIST. The black (mulatto) men are the two racists. Not the white guy. Crowley is the good guy, but he’s not the proper sort of good guy. He’s male, white, and alive. And a cop.
Gates got what he wanted…a few moments of noteriety, and kid-glove treatment for himself for the rest of his racist life. Rosa Parks, he ain’t.
hbinva on July 26, 2009 at 3:16 PM
I’d tip that!
Maquis on July 26, 2009 at 3:23 PM
hbinva:
Oh, this is definitely racism on the part of our ivy-league intellectuals. They are so used to “selling” this that they are able to get by with the suggestion of meeting “for a beer” and letting us think they are just being…reasonable. Whites while trying to give benefit of the doubt fail to see the subtle undertones here of class bigotry, stereotyping Irish males and cops.

FOX 2 NEWS, St. Louis on SLATE government paid jobs to clean and mow; pay-day postponed, TBA, come back another day, come back again, and again.
“It’s a government program and it shouldn’t be like this. It really shouldn’t. They didn’t even give her the full amount,” says Henderson.

Ed,
Unless Obama does something even more ignorant, “…the Cambridge police acted…stupidly” may become the halmark of his ignoble presidency. And, by comparison, it is exteremly offensive, as Mr. Obama is. “I am not a crook,” “Read my lips, no new taxes,” “Turn down the thermostat, put on a sweater,” “I did not have sex with that woman…” All of those statements remain with their originators, but none impugned anyone (except Monica, who deserves to be ‘that woman’). Obama had to go ad hominum.
I suggest adding a scan of the Cambridge PD shield to the Obamaturism of the Day. Or make it the Obamoronity of the Day.
hbinva on July 26, 2009 at 3:35 PM
tex,
With you. Academic, intellectual, elitist racism is the most offensive sort. And most of the ‘Gates’s’ of the academy were benefitted by affirmative action. Certainly they are smart, but not necessarily the best. But it takes no guts to get a PhD, and it is easier if you are black. It is hard as hell to become a cop, unless you are a woman. And black. And even black women have to do one helluva lot more to become an officer than Gates had to do to become a faculty member. And HE screams about being treated unjustly?
It is the same as Sotomayor, you get away with lying to the cameras if you are the “proper” color or race, pat on the back, and kudos for being so brave to challenge the system.
I call BS.
hbinva on July 26, 2009 at 3:47 PM
I’d suggest saving the losing OOTW for future use (kinda like rollover minutes), but there’s no need. At this rate, there just will be so many left over.
IrishEyes on July 26, 2009 at 3:55 PM
Hands down,its the,I don’t speak,until I know all the facts!
canopfor on July 26, 2009 at 4:43 PM
We have a clear winner! And thanks, Ed, for the earlier press conference video. Really nailed it!
Christian Conservative on July 26, 2009 at 5:49 PM
Obama-nation and his fellow socialists in congress are fully aware that they controlled congress for the last two years. They do seem to be afraid that if the rank and file of their party find out there will be lynch mobs.
darktood on July 26, 2009 at 6:20 PM
A book would be very good. Ed deserves to make money from his work. Of course I don’t begrudge that. I just didn’t think about it that way. Sorry.
Loxodonta on July 26, 2009 at 6:35 PM
Dittos. Please keep that cartoon going. We need it.
Loxodonta on July 26, 2009 at 6:41 PM
What, we couldn’t have had a “Presser as a whole” option?
Blacksmith on July 27, 2009 at 1:28 AM
Ya know, we need a “rank them” poll rather than select the one and only. That would reveal secondary trends. This week was pretty much a stream of gems proving Obama is losing whatever grip on reality he may have had.

The guy is making your job too easy Ed. You could fill a book with quotes from this genius administration.

81% for Gates-gate. A rare clear-cut winner. (I was outside of the bubble on this one).
Jaibones on July 27, 2009 at 11:24 AM
At this rate, you’ll soon be changing it to Obamateurism of the Day.
