Video: Obama blames the media for making a big deal about Gates comment

posted at 12:15 pm on July 24, 2009 by Ed Morrissey

Well, that’s what happens when a President puts his foot in his mouth at the prime-time press conference he himself demanded.  Fox News reporter Mike Emanuel tells Megyn Kelly that the new word out from Robert Gibbs is that Barack Obama is mystified about why the media would consider it a big deal when he accuses a local police department of acting “stupidly” in a case where he admitted he didn’t have all the facts.  In other words, Obama is blaming the media for covering his remarks, even though they were televised live to over 28 million people (via Patrick Hynes):

Makes Rush Limbaugh’s comment about Obama being the media’s Waterloo even more prescient, doesn’t it?  If nothing else, this should wake up the White House press corps to Obama’s ever-present impulse to lay the blame on someone else — anyone else — for his own missteps.

The first rule of holes: stop digging.  Obama should just apologize for reaching a conclusion on national TV without having the facts, and let the matter drop entirely.  Instead, Obama will likely let the weekend news cycle bury the controversy.  Will the media let him get away with blaming them?  I predict … heartache, to quote my esteemed blogging partner.

In terms of proxies, Obama had mastered the art

When he staged his snubs of various nations, he was never called on it. Instead people debated among themselves what the reasoning might be for such snubs. Ignorance? Arrogance? Misunderstanding?

They debated whether Obama understood the gifts and actions were snubs. They debated whether Obama had bad advice.

They debated everything except the possibility of asking Obama whether he was snubbing these national leaders.

That was beyond the pale because obama, wisely, had never opened his mouth about the cheesy gifts. He did it, smiled and beat it to the first plane out.

The chameleon champion of the world until recently

It’s very simple. People want to give someone with Obama’s educational level more credit than he is due. In fact, like most minorities, he got by in school because nothing was really expected of a minority student. The courses taken by minorities are quite often “studies” courses that have no real value in real life and simply the ideas and opinions of that colleges minority professors. The fact is Obama got where he is by claiming minority status and finding ways of attacking whitey in front of his own people and like a used car salesman, endearing himself to liberal whiteys in from=nt of them. His opinion of cops and law enforcement is the same as every other anarchist. It’s his enemy.

Will the media let him get away with blaming them?
There is media and then there is the media.
The MSM will interpret the White House media statement as meaning Fox news, Rush Limbaugh, conservative tilting blogs, not the MSM.
In private to Gibbs, the MSM will say it was not them; the MSM would never want to hurt the feelings of Obama.
As a consolation, the MSM will offer the White House exclusive hour-long interviews with Obama in prime time, plus run specials on why Americans should support the Obama Health Care disaster.
Time magazine will feature Obama on the next 4 covers and do a 10-page photo feature of the fabulous hairdos of Michelle since becoming the first lady.

Hey, what happened to JohnGalt23? The last I heard from him, he was telling me how good Robert Gibbs was at his job.

“*Obama is blaming the media for covering his remarks, even though they were televised live to over 28 million people.

President Obama uncharacteristically rushed thru the second to last question to make time for the “Gates question” ????
Obama’s ’empathy’ with his friend backfired because the cop was in the right.

“*The first rule of holes: stop digging

Its an Obama ‘shovel ready project’ let him keep digging :)

Afterall, he was only following David Axelrods advise to plant a question to use the race card. I think everyone except the blind side of the MSM is beginning to see that.

I’m starting to sense a pattern here.
Iranians fighting and dying for freedom- Barry- we can’t get involved.Honduran dictator ousted- Barry- we must get him back.
Mayor of SF crooked, a friend of Barry’s- investigator fired for no reason.
Gates arrested to further investigate, friend of Barry’s. Police called stupid by Barry.

Tyranny- Barry likes it.
Freedom- Barry against it.

Something very, very wrong here.

Please, please, please release the Gates/Crowley audio tape.

I’m convinced that Obo has received information that the tape does not bode well…for Gates…hence the 10 minute rambling.

Release the tape.

“I’m always worried about using the word ‘victory,’ because, you know, it invokes this notion of Emperor Hirohito coming down and signing a surrender to MacArthur,” Obama told ABC News.
Kalapana on July 24, 2009

yep Mac Shoulda just said “I won!”

BTW didn’t Japan surrender to the Allied Powers?

True Gen. Douglas MacArthur did sign for the Allied Powers, but Emperor Hirohito did not come down the USS Missouri.

He did have a couple of Reps sign for/on behave of Emperor Hirohito, but the Emperor never came aboard the USS Missouri to surrender.

But ya really can’t ding Obama on this, there was almost no reporting on WW2, so how would he know some obscure facts like

When and where.

Was your comment “like special olympics” or something, Mr. President? Don’t be such a “bitter clinger” to your beliefs that cops are racists against “african americans and latinos.”

Black Adam on July 25, 2009 at 6:55 PM

You know really is to blame? The racist next door neighbor. Yes, really.

Good point.

The Cops responded to a call of a burglary in progress.

The Cops were given a description of the alleged burglars.

Oddly enough Gates,

who WAS trying to force the door of his house open,

fit the description of the guy trying to force Gates door open to a TEE!

Imagine that?

Lets do a little substitution.

A person calls the cops about a burglary in progress.

The description is a white man 40ish, 5’9’’ 220 lb dressed in a red tee shirt and white jeans.

Cops show up and find a man in the house that was REPORTED being burglarized.

The man is white, 40ish, 5’9’’ 220 lb dressed in a red tee shirt and white jeans.

Do you

A. Ask what are you doing, who are you.
B. Assume he must be a Harvard professor and therefore above any questioning.
C. Arrest the man then get info to find out what is what.

Me think most would pick “A” or “C”.

Gates AND Obama both picked “B”
Now who is stupid?

DSchoen on July 25, 2009 at 7:49 PM

Come on.

Like this jerk didn’t PRAY for this distraction so pelosi could threaten and cajole her slaves into passing her crap sandwich with less attention than it would have without obambo purposely boofing it.

Didn’t work anyway, blue dogs suddenly got a conscience.

Sort of.
