Video: Glenn Beck wearing lederhosen now for some reason
posted at 6:50 pm on July 24, 2009 by Allahpundit
Such are my expectations of GB that it didn’t occur to me until five minutes after watching this to wonder why he was wearing it. Beck being Beck, I just figured he woke up this morning and decided he was going to wear lederhosen to work today. Because that’s what the Founding Fathers would have wanted.
Is that it? Or is he making some … Nazi analogy here? Dude, if you’re going to launch an attack as ugly as that, at least own it. Skip the cutesy Bavarian beer hall costume and put on a red armband with the “O” logo on it. Double down.

Blowback

I detect jealousy.
Fletch54 on July 24, 2009 at 6:51 PM
He should’ve had a swastika armband for the full and complete effect.
9.5 out of 10.
J.J. Sefton on July 24, 2009 at 6:52 PM
I’m jealous. I always wanted a pair of lederhosen. They’re very cool.
Blake on July 24, 2009 at 6:53 PM
Yikes. He’s like a Hummel figurine come to life.
I’ve had nightmares like that.
Slublog on July 24, 2009 at 6:53 PM
GB is hilarious. It’s one of the only radio shows that makes me laugh out loud quite often.
Dr. Manhattan on July 24, 2009 at 6:53 PM
Allahpundit if your butt is too fat to wear them, the leather will stretch. So, there is really no reason for you to disparage them.
Blake on July 24, 2009 at 6:54 PM
LOL
I LOL!!
blatantblue on July 24, 2009 at 6:55 PM
Ugh.
Not even going to click on that video.
Not now, not EVAH!

Allah.. oh come ON! Could you pull have pulled it off? You got good legs?
upinak on July 24, 2009 at 6:55 PM
I like the scary Halliburton music he plays.
Blake on July 24, 2009 at 6:55 PM
At least he has nice legs.

blatantblue on July 24, 2009 at 6:56 PM
Beck is pretty crazy. I essentially like him but sometimes I feel like throttling him.
As far as AmeriCorps goes, yeah, some scary implications taken with what we know about Obama and what he said on the campaign about having a huge, well funded security force.
But this…..and there wasn’t anything all that zany in the pledge.

Knucklehead on July 24, 2009 at 6:56 PM
You want lederhosen? My friend is going to Munich this weekend. I can hook you up.
upinak on July 24, 2009 at 6:56 PM
Glenn Beck interviewing “fatty ignorant slob Glenn Beck” later in the show made me LMAO. You chose the wrong clip.
Marcus on July 24, 2009 at 6:57 PM
It looks like he’s been working out a little bit.
Oh, and I think it’s a Nazi Youth reference to be exact.
toliver on July 24, 2009 at 6:57 PM
Beck looks a little light on his feet. I was hoping he was going to start dancing.
NeoKong on July 24, 2009 at 6:57 PM
If it’s supposed to be a Nazi analogy, it’s very, very strained. I think he was just mocking Americorps, which seems to have been effective, since we certainly appear to view lederhosen with mockery.
MadisonConservative on July 24, 2009 at 6:57 PM
GB is Allahs new Rosie
offroadaz on July 24, 2009 at 6:58 PM
Awesome! Beck is too cool for words.
Best show on Fox News.
jencab on July 24, 2009 at 6:58 PM
On Beck’s radio program this morning, he said he’d address a major controversy that’s been dogging him for some time on the TV show?
Anyone?
toliver on July 24, 2009 at 6:59 PM
Admit it: You were shocked that he looked that good in lederhosen. Dude’s got the legs for it.
amerpundit on July 24, 2009 at 6:59 PM
Say what you want I thought it was hysterical. No matter how bad things are you can always count on Glenn to make you laugh.
milwife88 on July 24, 2009 at 6:59 PM
Allah, call Chubby McCain and ask her out for God’s sake! Hard enough to fight barry, nancy, waxman, reid, blah blah blah.. we don’t need “internal struggles”! :)
WhatsRight on July 24, 2009 at 6:59 PM
I’m a huge Beck fan, but I have no idea what was going on there.
BadgerHawk on July 24, 2009 at 6:59 PM
If it doesn’t make GB look bad, it won’t play here .. lederhosen envy, or something.
redrock on July 24, 2009 at 7:00 PM
I dont like GB on the radio, but on t.v. the dude is hilarious. And any recovered addict is a hero in my book (I know many – I love them all)
Ris4victory on July 24, 2009 at 7:00 PM
And bless you, AP, for posting a video that’s sure to draw lots of fire.
BadgerHawk on July 24, 2009 at 7:00 PM
His blasting that woman who called in to insult him. He laughed it off and interviewed himself in a split-screen.
amerpundit on July 24, 2009 at 7:00 PM
Thread Winner!
Knucklehead on July 24, 2009 at 7:01 PM
Maybe he is just looking ahead to his future job with AC-DC.
Dirty deeds done dirt cheap.
Bicyea on July 24, 2009 at 7:01 PM
As soon as i saw this today I knew AP would have the video posted within 2 hours.
Mark1971 on July 24, 2009 at 7:01 PM
eh, he has a great message, but undermines his credibility with his “crazy” schtick.
marklmail on July 24, 2009 at 7:01 PM
Attracting the youth, to a pretty much partisan group, that uses said volunteers to wash the cars of mayors in California, that support Obama? Nah. No connection…just some light hearted levity. LOL
capejasmine on July 24, 2009 at 7:01 PM
Beck’s bringing SEXY back
Upstater85 on July 24, 2009 at 7:02 PM
I’m a relative fan of GB, but it wasn’t really worth posting. Besides, it included video of him in the studio reliving the controversial reaction.
amerpundit on July 24, 2009 at 7:02 PM
Good lord…I like Glenn, but sometimes his schtick is too much. Clearly I think this is one of those times.
sDs61678 on July 24, 2009 at 7:02 PM
Beta on beta violence can be so brutal.
Siobhan on July 24, 2009 at 7:02 PM
Allahpundit, you’ve officially been promoted to Meggie Mac status, it seems.
DaveS on July 24, 2009 at 7:02 PM
It’s a weekly thing. Beck honors another country’s customs by wearing clothing readily identified with said country.
.
Next week Beck’s going to be wearing a mawashi.
.
What’s that?
.
It’s the belt that sumo wrestlers wears during training and competition.
.
Be afraid…be very afraid.
Carl on July 24, 2009 at 7:03 PM
Maybe AP’s jealous because Beck’s wearing more than tighty whities and cheetos in his beard…
Upstater85 on July 24, 2009 at 7:03 PM
I’m not sure but I don’t think that the brown-shirts had those armbands in the beginning.
FloatingRock on July 24, 2009 at 7:04 PM
Beck is pretty eccentric, but he is usually spot-on.
OmahaConservative on July 24, 2009 at 7:05 PM
When I saw it live I thought it was hilarious.

Not necessarily Nazism. But the Germans have always had a streak of authoritarianism in them. Sometimes lederhosen is just lederhosen.
rbj on July 24, 2009 at 7:11 PM
Later in the show he interviewed himself about that call to his radio show a few weeks ago that has gotten so much attention.

Glenn, put the scout sign down and back away from it. Don’t sully it with the Obama Youth stuff.

that’s the same thing that i was thinking when i heard about his “civilian force” or whatever it is.
thanks, glenn, for saying what needs to be said. although it seems to be many months after the fact…

It must be Hitler Youth being referenced. But I gotta agree with Ace…if that’s your message, double down and own it.
But here we are talking about it, so you gotta give GB credit for that. And ACE. Perhaps this is what beta love feels like.
I need a shower.

Beck > Allah.
Good luck with that moderate, sort-of Republican party you want, AP. You’re gonna need it.
Nominee? I hear McCain’s available. Or possibly Graham, his youthful trainee.
tsj017 on July 24, 2009 at 7:18 PM
Allahpundit, you would act that way, too, if a fairy kissed you and turned you into a real boy.
Terrie on July 24, 2009 at 7:18 PM
Ew. No need for that kind of language.
MadisonConservative on July 24, 2009 at 7:20 PM
It’s obvious he’s imitating the Hitler (I mean Obama) Youth and AfrikaKorps (I mean AmeriCorps). All we need is the song ‘Schwarzbraun ist die Haselnuss’ playing in the background.
MaiDee on July 24, 2009 at 7:20 PM
He’s just being a goofball.
TheUnrepentantGeek on July 24, 2009 at 7:21 PM
I seem to remember Allah vehemently opposing McCain in the primaries.
Allah’s just as opposed to people like Arlen Specter and Lindsey Graham as we are. He helped fight amnesty, opposes big government spending, supports the war on terrorism, fights the left, and the rest.
Just because he has a few differences or may not like the exact same candidate as you do doesn’t mean he wants a panty-waist moderate vehicle.
amerpundit on July 24, 2009 at 7:21 PM
He dam sure gets your attention.
SHARPTOOTH on July 24, 2009 at 7:21 PM
I thought he looked adorable and that any German mother would love to have him. He was making a point and I got it. I think he has lost weight over the last several weeks and he looks great. I was also surprised to see Rush last night and thought he looked wonderful. He had really ballooned up, but he sure is sliming down. I’ll watch him tonight on Greta.
Bambi on July 24, 2009 at 7:22 PM
I love Glenn Beck. He’s in the great American tradition of H.L. Mencken.
The man speaks his mind and in living rooms and cheap saloons all over the country, folks, nod their heads and say, “F**k, yeah!”
guntotinglibertarian on July 24, 2009 at 7:23 PM
Lederhosen ( leather pants ) are a Bavarian item, traditionally ( in the Old Days ) worn only in rural areas of the southernmost part of Germany–and in the Tyrol area of what is now Austria
Most Germans have always looked upon Bavarians as hillbillies: backward rural Catholics is what is now a mostly urban and secularized society.
If Beck were going for a ‘Nazi’ theme he would have worn a brown shirt. The S.A. adopted that uniform from surplus WWI Austrian army gear and made it world-famous–although the KPD ( German communist party ) also had organized uniformed street-thugs who wore a very similar uniform

I have to admit there are days when I truly wonder why AP is here instead of HuffPo or the DailyKos. I’m sure AP does too, possibly even more often than I do.

portlandon on July 24, 2009 at 7:28 PM
Actually it’s wonderful mockery, because the correct Obama “helper” uniform is bloused camouflage pants, dark blue shirt with the creepy omnipresent Obama circle, high top sneakers and olive drab uniform belt. Here
GunRunner on July 24, 2009 at 7:30 PM
He settled on McCain like the rest of us did. He referred to McCain as “McAmnesty”, IIRC. I don’t think he liked any of the choices.
Because he doesn’t like Beck, isn’t a fan of Palin, and doesn’t believe in conspiracy theories suddenly he should be blogging on Daily Kos? Wow.
amerpundit on July 24, 2009 at 7:31 PM
Beck was referencing the swearing-in words for Americorps “volunteers”, the only volunteers I’ve ever heard of that get PAID. He was also, obviously, referencing Hitler Jugend, or Hitler Youth, that were also sworn in to “serve the nation”.
Scarier than Beck in lederhosen is the 250,000 army of “volunteers” enlisted by Americorps. Do do exactly WHAT?
They can be members from age 18-24, after that they have to leave. Or move up? To the Chicago Dynasty perhaps? Ahh, sooo.
You haf relatifs in ze old country?
bradley11 on July 24, 2009 at 7:32 PM
I think GB is close to jumping the shark. Sometimes more is less. He is getting close to puncturing his bucket of appeal with a big draining hole.

Palin in lederhosen — now that would be a thread.
exception on July 24, 2009 at 7:35 PM
It’s pretty obvious that Americorps is just a front for Obama’s pro Nazi agenda which he quite intelligently put in place a decade before he was elected, and I think Glenn explained that all very well by dressing up in a little costume and dancing around on his desk.
Well played, Glenn.
Proud Rino on July 24, 2009 at 7:40 PM
I am sorry, but I think Beck is hot. I have vacationed in Bavaria twice in the past five years. I have threatened my husband with buying him lederhosen a few times.

No German beer for Beck.
Heartache.
Mr. Joe on July 24, 2009 at 7:49 PM
I think it’s more because he questions things that Beck does, and questions things that Palin does, and doesn’t believe in conspiracy theories.
See, you’re only supposed to question people on their side, not ours.
MadisonConservative on July 24, 2009 at 7:49 PM
She won’t date atheists. Ironically, neither will Allahpundit.
Blake on July 24, 2009 at 7:49 PM
I don’t Beck’s outfit had anything to do with Nazis. See the three fingers in the air? Hear the way he read it? See the color and style of the outfit? He meant it as a reference to the Boy Scouts of America, and either he could not get permission to use their uniform (and had to go with this) or couldn’t get a uniform.
Oneyedman on July 24, 2009 at 7:50 PM
For what it’s worth, Karl Marx was born in Trier, Prussia so you don’t have to always assume that Germans = Nazi. Germans can also = Marxist = Obama.
mizflame98 on July 24, 2009 at 7:51 PM
I think he was going for ‘it seems innocent but is it?’. There is an Americorp commercial that I saw on Fox that read the whole pledge while the followers were in formation, wearing the Americorp uniform, exercising, etc. It might as well been a Youth for Hitler commercial. I think Beck is on the money. We need to ramp up the language – attack the left with their own nuttiness – turn it on themselves. No more Mr. Nice Guy.
Besides that self interview at the end was funny.
hotdax on July 24, 2009 at 7:52 PM
