Rahm Emanuel says House will vote on ObamaCare next week
posted at 10:11 am on July 24, 2009 by Ed Morrissey
Well, that’s what he says, and it’s important to note that Rahm Emanuel is acting as a repeater station for Nancy Pelosi, who has insisted that she has the votes to pass ObamaCare right now — even though more than 50 House Democrats have publicly balked at the proposal in the lower chamber. Click on the image to listen (via Drudge):
The bills haven’t even yet come out of the various committees, so at the moment there’s nothing on which to vote. Besides, the incentive to move before the recess was all but lost when Harry Reid threw in the towel yesterday, and especially when Reid said that the process needed more deliberation than speed. Pelosi’s troops — even those inclined to support the bill — are worried that they will have to put themselves out on a limb with new taxes and benefits cuts, just to have the Senate version cut the limb out from under them.
But could they do it? It’s certainly possible, which is why it’s necessary to keep the heat on your elected representatives.

Announce the vote before a firm deal is reached?
This is a planned implosion.
Obama is freeing up resources for the race war he ignited in Cambridge.

My cousin told me that he made an offer to his 15-year old daughter:
“When the time comes, in lieu of a wedding, I’ll give you $20,000 and 2 tickets to Las Vegas.
Our health care system is heading in this same direction.
“In lieu of a MRI and Chemotherapy, ObamaCare will give you $20,000 and 2 tickets to Las Vegas.” This would be a huge savings to the Federal Government.
Who knows? If the Federal government takes over the Gambling Industry ALL of the money will come right back to the Treasury. Win-Win-Win!
SayNo2-O on July 24, 2009 at 10:51 AM
Nope, no Constitutional chrises.
The 60 vote thing is a Senate RULE, not law. It can be changed by the Senate anytime it wishes… with a simple majority vote.
The 60 votes you always hear about in the Senate is a vote to cut off debate, not the vote on the actual bill itself… (they can’t vote as long as debate is still ongoing, again, by Rule).
Longtime Senators know this rule helps protect the Minority Party… so it has traditionaly been kept in place by people who are looking looking long term… but Obama is in a hurry, and has does NOT care about Tradition… so he may very well try to bypass by the rule.

I was thinking that very thing this morning. The arrogance and ignorance in Washington is making me sick. It would take my organization months to make a change in policy, and THEN it would have to go through all kinds of levels of approval, and get sent back for revisions and then all the way to the Governor’s office before it could get approved. And then he’d probably say “this is all well and good but folks, we DON’T HAVE THE MONEY FOR IT!” Where do these people get the audacity to cobble together some bill that could affect the way Americans go about getting health care rushed through in a matter of weeks? What is this, Russia? They aren’t even listening to the people screaming they DON’T WANT THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I wouldn’t put it past these crooks to have blackmailed some votes and have a surprise vote before, or even during the recess.
Back when I used to hang out in bars and shoot pool, if I was down, and my opponent was taking a possible winning shot, I would put my stick in the rack, appearing to give up all hope and walk away. 9 times out of 10 the overconfident opponent would choke and miss the shot.
We can’t be overconfident and lose focus in this fight and ‘Cap and Trade’.
Either, or both of these bills will be the ruination of this country.

But if it’s passed it’s passed. The public can whine all it wants, but the greatest health care system in the world is still destroyed, and gerrymandering and ACORN’s $8 billion in stimulus funds ensures that only 3 or 4 dems lose their seats over it, likely to another dem who says he “would have” voted against it. By 2012, we’ve got media story after media story featuring “ordinary Americans” whose lives were saved by ObamaCare. The point is that right now is the time Obama can take the hit on this, and he knows it. They’re not afraid of backlash. The only thing they fear here is losing.

And while this is going on: Obama’s March 30th promise of government backing of Chrysler and GM warranties lasted only four months. The Detroit Free Press reports:
Ron Bloom, who heads the presidential auto task force, also said the administration had ended its program to guarantee warranties on GM and Chrysler vehicles while they were in bankruptcy, with $641 million that had been set aside for the program returned to the government with interest.
With car sales down as the economy sputters, will purchasers of new cars have enough confidence in GM and Chrysler as viable entities going forward to risk buying cars from them and possibly losing their warranties?

dieudonne on July 24, 2009 at 11:26 AM
States may well handle the district lines, but not until after the 2010 Census, because that will tell them how many districts they have. This is why Rham should not be in charge along with ACORN, because many feel they will cook the numbers to keep large numbers of electoral votes in states like NY and CA who are losing people by the thousands to southern, RED states.

So…
there are a lot of things to say. I have been calling every day. I didn’t really think I’d be in a position to defend the health insurance I finally got once moving up into the middle class. Did you all know I was a single mom once? Yeah…I had nothing. And I worked, and went back to church and met my husband. This doesn’t happen to everyone, but, my husband makes a modest income, but, just enough for me to stay home and to homeschool my kids. My son has mild autism and we are stretched beyond belief affording the organic/all natural/gfcf diet and are going to specialists. I am SO GRATEFUL for the opportunity to get good medical care for us all. And, you know what else? When I had nothing to my name, I was on medicaid for my ONE pregnancy…and I got the care I needed (AS AN AMERICAN CITIZEN) for ONE YEAR and then I went off it. I did not get WIC, I did not get other assistance. For many years I had no insurance…and I GOT CARE. I went to the health department and paid my bills. I went to the ER for a bad kidney infection and PAID MY BILLS.
Now, they want to level the middle class so we all are back where I STARTED. I AM PAYING MY DAMN DUES RIGHT NOW. I give back to my freaking community. I do what I am supposed to do and raise my children and do not bother a soul. But, this ghetto-envy mentality is going to drag my family to THE LEVEL I WAS ALREADY ON!?!???????????????????
I just want to scream and cry. I really am hating now…and I didn’t want to have that cancer in my heart…but they really do it to you, don’t they?
I’m so upset.

You know what scares me? All 52 blue dogs say “nay” and they only need 12 “republicans” to cast a “yay”. Why the hell wouldn’t they get that? Of course they would.

I hear you. That’s what is so evil about this (stimulus also).
Wrecking the lives of others for power.

Ed, I have no idea why you’re skeptical this will come to a vote. This is exactly what they did with Cap & Trade. This vote is going to happen and it will probably pass barring a miracle.

I applaud your strength and perseverance(sp). You are exactly what makes America great.
Kudos to you!

A perfect example of the Obama socialist agenda and Chicago politics, only this time foisted on the entire country. Thugs and thuggery abound! Emmanuel is right out of the Sopranos…….. 2010 and 2012 can’t get here fast enough to save the country.

Minimum wage goes up by $.70/hr today. Look for more layoffs as the unskilled drive employers to minimize the hit to their operating budgets.

Sounds like the GOP should explore teaming up with 7 Blue Dogs to shut that committee down until it has a new chairman.

Just called Boehner’s office, and honestly, the guy who answered the phone could NOT have been less interested “We’re in the minority. There’s not much we can do. Blah, blah, blah.” It was unbelievable. He even says, “What do YOU think we should do?” I say, “How about when the vote comes up every single Republican member of the House walks out and heads to the microphones on the steps and tells the American people what is in this bill and how it’s going to destroy the finest health care system in the world.” He says, “We’ve tried that.”

They have been shutting it down. Now Waxman will let Nancy bring the bill to the floor without going through committee. Apparentely she can, as she did that with Crap and Trade.
