Obamateurism of the Day

posted at 8:05 am on July 24, 2009 by Ed Morrissey

By now, Barack Obama’s already realizing what a mess he made of his big prime-time presser by allowing Lynn Sweet to draw him out on the arrest of Henry Gates in Cambridge.  He wanted America talking about health-care reform after pre-empting their favorite programs, although his presser was so lackluster that the big story otherwise would have been his flop, both critically and in ratings.  Ironically, had he heeded his own advice from March, he might have avoided all the trouble:

Remember, Mr. President: if you have to start off a sentence with “I wasn’t there and I don’t have all the facts,” the only correct conclusion to it is “so I have nothing to say about it at the moment.”

Addendum: Normally I’d put a link to Chris Muir’s Day by Day site here, but today I want to do more than that. Chris has a fundraising drive to keep his excellent cartoon alive.  Be sure to drop a few dollars in his collection to keep one of the Rightosphere’s most talented warriors in the fight!

Affirmitive Action isn’t enough-BHO really wants total and complete reparations-payback for slavery and oppression- a bigger leg up. It’s obvious- all his programs are geared to helping his 99.5% black constituency. Understandable??? maybe.

David Axelrod is the most dangerous man in America.

At least Obama is being consistent – he’s never let his ignorance of an issue stop him from taking a public stance on it.

If Prof. Gates is obnoxious, racist, its where Obama comes from.

To paraphrase Reagan: It isn’t that Bury is ignorant, it’s just that he knows so much that isn’t true.

Independent Doctors have diagnosed Obama’s problem:

FGS- or: Flapping Gums Syndromeusually associated with inflamed tonsils.

He was just going by what his buddy Rahm says, “Never let a serious crisis go to waste.” This attitude plays well in Chicago, but not the rest of the country.

Keep it up Barry, you’ve got quite a list growing of who you’re against:

Small Town America
Main Street America
Corporate America
Small Business America
Gun Owners America
Religious America

From Mark Knoller,CBS radio WH corresp.

Gibbs says that whole Gate’s thing is a “distraction” and that people are “obsessed with it.”

LMAO!

markknoller Does Obama regret his Gates/police remarks? Gibbs: I think he wud if he “realized how much of an overall distraction & obsession it wud be.”

markknoller Gibbs tells reporters that Obama “would probably regret distracting you gusy with obsessions.” (about Gates/police incident)

Rightosphere

It’s “dextrosphere”. To truly appreciate why it’s such a good word for it, consider what the opposing half of the sphere must be called.

(For those of you who don’t know your Latin etymology, that would be “sinistrosphere”.

The greatness of CrockObama is he believes he is an expert on every subject even though he knows nothing about said subject…. and he can’t throw a baseball…and he is a terrible “leader”.

Nothing new in the presser. Just Barry finally displaying that he shoots his mouth off about a lot of things that he knows nothing about.

GarandFan on July 24, 2009 at 11:16 AM

Does he hate me too?

JiangxiDad on July 24, 2009 at 8:26 AM

Probably. Definitely, if you’re White, a Christian and a Conservative. Most definitely if you also own a gun. God forbid if you’ve attended a “Tea Party” in the last six months…that’ll make you right-wing extremist and a potential terrorist too.

I wouldn’t lose any sleep over it…I sure don’t.

Barb Dwyer on July 24, 2009 at 11:17 AM

The conventional (and completely wrong) wisdom is that only whites can be racists.

The misleading campaign theme was that Barack Obama was the “post-racial” and “post-partisan” candidate.

The left obsesses over the “racism” of conservatives, but they are the only ones who seem to be obsessed with talking about it.

Barbara Boxer is a prime illustration of the true, condescending racism of the left.

By the end of Obama’s term, racism will be a much bigger problem than it is today

I think this was about class, not race and Obama came across as another IVY league elitist defending his buddy.

rob verdi on July 24, 2009 at 8:08 AM

It was most definitely primarily about race. Class, perhaps, but a distant secondary matter in Obama’s warped and hate-filled mind.

JiangxiDad on July 24, 2009 at 12:05 PM

Obama failed to mention that police in upscale neighborhoods like Cambridge are used to affirmation action idiots like Obama and Gates in their neighborhoods, used to making adjustments for their street inspired bad manners and used to treating them the same as they would treat a rich, nutso white or Asian guy.

snaggletoothie on July 24, 2009 at 12:09 PM

Like almost every other subject, Messiah has no grasp of the “reach” of the presidency. The fact that he expresses surprise at the reaction to his remarks on a regular basis speaks volumes. He is like a child with a loaded gun, who cannot understand why those around him duck for cover as he waves it around.

n0doz on July 24, 2009 at 12:19 PM

BHO is a racist. To have sit in that church for twenty years……well eough said. He has set back race relations in America forty years.

I watch the FoodTV channel a lot, and I refused to watch two shows, specifically because they were black…tired of the race baiting of Obama: Cooking for Real and Down Home with the Neely’s.

I finally gave in and watched them, desperate for something that wasn’t political to get me angry all over again…I came to really like both shows only recently…Sunny and the Neely’s are really nice people and NOT angry like Michelle and Obama! Their recipes are pretty good too.

Obamateurisms is the first page I turn to on Hot Air each day. It’s always entertaining, but the Obamateurisms themselves can’t always be attributed to the president’s inexperience and unpreparedness for the job. This one, though, fits that bill perfectly.

In that instant, Sweet gave Obama enough room to implode, and Obama naively obliged. –Hot Air

The racist community organizer cannot stay silent. That persona is too dominant and must push through to the surface.

SKYFOX on July 24, 2009 at 1:42 PM

Obama knows everything about being a cop, a doctor and a banker. He knows how to run a car company. Brilliant!

Unfortunately, he has no idea how to be president.

He did EXACTLY what someone does who believes they are smarter than everybody else.

singlemalt_18 on July 24, 2009 at 8:33 AM

No offense to those on this blog who are attorneys, but isn’t it general knowledge that lawyers are smarter then everyone else? Come on guys, get with the program!

Obama can’t help himself, he has a law degree!

Susanboo on July 24, 2009 at 1:45 PM

Don’t know how to nominate something for Obamateurism of the Day, but I think this qualifies:

“I’m always worried about using the word ‘victory,’ because, you know, it invokes this notion of Emperor Hirohito coming down and signing a surrender to MacArthur,” Obama told ABC News.

Student of history, huh? If one of my students tried to place HIrohito at the surrender, I would flunk him or her.

Or refer them to the East Asia vs. Eurasia wars in Nineteen Eight-Four. History belongs to those in power and the majority-rarely is it an accurate portrayal of reality.

Dr. ZhivBlago on July 24, 2009 at 2:50 PM

Well, of course! When it’s a matter of race, there’s no need to wait on facts.

Rev. Wright taught him that for 20 years.

RedNewEnglander on July 24, 2009 at 3:59 PM

Basic things Obama never taught:
When you point at someone, there’s three fingers pointing back at you.
and
When you “assume”, you make an ass of u and me.
