NoKo testing bio-chem weapons on disabled children

posted at 4:05 pm on July 24, 2009 by Ed Morrissey

The actors in tyrannies may change for different places and times, but the script remains shockingly consistent.  A high-ranking defector from North Korea has told the media that Kim Jong-Il’s regime routinely used mentally and physically handicapped children to test its biological and chemical weapons, a tale reminiscent of the Nazis and Josef Mengele.  It focuses attention on the DPRK’s other weapons of mass destruction, nearly forgotten in the conflict over their nuclear capabilities:

But among the accounts they carried with them is one of the most shocking yet to emerge — namely the use of humans, specifically mentally or physically handicapped children, to test North Korea’s biological and chemical weapons.

“If you are born mentally or physically deficient, says Im, the government says your best contribution to society… is as a guinea pig for biological and chemical weapons testing.” …

The former military captain says it was in the early 1990s, that he watched his then commander wrestle with giving up his 12-year-old daughter who was mentally ill.

The commander, he says, initially resisted, but after mounting pressure from his military superiors, he gave in.

Im watched as the girl was taken away. She was never seen again.

One of Im’s own men later gave him an eyewitness account of human-testing.

McKittrick at Closing Velocity notes that this corroborates an allegation repeated by Popular Mechanics in 2007 of political prisoners being put to the same use.  McKittrick normally focuses on missile defense, but explains that this is relevant to that issue:

While many defense analysts are fixated on North Korea’s pusuit of nuclear warhead miniaturization, less attention has been given to their other WMDs — namely chemical and biological weapons. Tipping their intermediate-range ballistic missiles (IRBMs) with nukes is a significant challenge (one report claims they have already achieved this feat). But swapping a standard high explosive SCUD warhead with a cannister of toxins? Easy …

So while it can certainly be more sensational to talk about a nuclear ICBM bearing down on Hawaii, the more immediate — and fully developed and operational — threat is the potential for toxic missile attacks on the extremely dense population centers in South Korea and Japan.

The barbarity of this is breathtaking, and McKittrick is right to link this to missile defense.  If Pyongyang has continued their bio-chem program — given their intransigence on nukes, they’d be unlikely to have stopped — then those weapons probably represent a greater threat to the region than nukes, at least for the moment.  The biggest threat for those would be terrorism, though, rather than overt warfare, and not just fron Pyongyang.  They could be selling these to any number of groups around the world in exchange for hard currency and the opportunity to take the focus of non-proliferation away from the Korean peninsula.

The US and the other nations remain committed to a negotiated settlement with North Korea, and that door should not be closed.  However, a regime capable of this barbarity cannot be trusted to honor agreements without a boot on its neck and a gun to its temple.

Update: The Irish Spy has more thoughts.

But honestly…..is this all that much different than the crap Saddam Hussein and his sons were doing in Iraq? Look how that has turned out, politically, here.

I have a very good, close friend who was in the Army. He did a couple tours in Iraq and he saw first hand the pits dug in the desert where political dissidents and prisoners were mass executed and buried there. Not a few children.

Back in 1991, Ko Young-hwan, a North Korean diplomat who defected while in the Congo, told me of the very same thing in detail. Ko served at various times as a translator for Kim Il-sung was highly educated, spoke several languages well, and had access to a wide number of not only foreign diplomats in North Korea, but many of the elites, in the party and in the military. Hiu entire family back in North Korea was killed on orders from the Operations Bureau of the Korean Workers Party shortly after his defection.

Handicapped people are anathema to Kim’s perfect workers Paradise. If you get to P’yongyang, other than a handicapped war veteran once in a while, you will not see any people in a population of nearly 5 million residents who are handicapped. Handicapped kids are killed in vivo or shortly after birth or sent out to the provinces where they are shunned by the locals…and most die of starvation.

Using them for chem/bio war experiments is merely using a commodity…a cheap one…and doing so rids the perfect Workers Paradise of a blight, from the North Korean viewpoint.

The North Korean gulag is rife with incidents of this type. Sometimes entire families are used for weapons experiments, merely because one family member chose to speak out against the regime, or just ask for more food.

On a related note, thanks to “smart diplomacy” North Korea has vowed they will not return to the six-party talks. They will instead attempt to peel off each nation involved in a one-on-one to satisfy their needs and to force the US to seek one-on-one talks as well, which will gut the entire UN mandate which brought us to Korea in the first place and is the sole legitimacy of our having troops and air force members in South Korea. Take away that UN mandate…the United Nations Command…and one can easily see our reason for being there nullified by a simple General Assembly vote.

North Korea scores yet again.

“Smart diplomacy?” Not on our part.

right2bright on July 24, 2009 at 4:40 PM

Without trying to be obnoxious, facetious, or cynical, I wonder how many Dem supporters of Obamacare are looking at this with genuine consideration of ‘possibilities’.

After all, fetal stem cell research requires a lot of abortions and, though Dems won’t admit it, they push for that but from the side of fetal stem cell research; the truth they hold is anathema to most Americans. It’s a boondoggle that has accomplished nothing, but the MSM won’t tell America and the world about it. Adult stem cell procedures work, not those from fetuses.

We have gone from abortion to assisted suicide, and now to Obamacare. Hitler did the same thing, using basically the same reasoning: for the good of the people.

If Hitler wasn’t a ‘practice’ antichrist, then he set a standard some have been trying to match for a century. Margaret Sangler, the founder of Planned Parenthood, was a eugenicist. So was Hitler. And so, it seems, are lib Democrats who smile to see images of North Korea’s leaders.

Anyone detect a pattern here?

Until I was a teen in the 70s, the idea of letting your ailing mom commit suicide was unthinkable. Now it’s pressed that such a thing is an option. Not only an option, but it’s also hinted that to oppose her ‘wish’ is somehow cruel.

It’s also considered heartless in some circles to ‘allow’ a Down’s baby to be born. Not just in China or NK, but here in America, too.

North Korea is only doing according to what all tyrannies eventually become. If Obamahusseincare is passed, expect the same thing here in 25 years or less.

Seven Percent Solution on July 24, 2009 at 4:13 PM

I believe some extreme liberals do see the truth…but it’s their truth. Look how Trigg Palin was treated. Look at the health care bill. Those with special needs do not fit into it. What happens, when a family is forced to pay out of pocket, to care for their special needs child. What happens when that financial burden becomes to much, and they can no longer do it? What becomes of the child then? Ward of the state, or the feds? Then what?

The evil is here, now. The problem is, not enough see it for what it is. Because the truth of this, hasn’t been implemented yet. Why don’t they see the truth? Perhaps they do, but agree with it!

The commander, he says, initially resisted, but after mounting pressure from his military superiors, he gave in.

One of the most disturbing quotes I have ever read…it shows you how cult leadership can take anything from you.
Parents have given up their children to “cultists” from the beginning of time, always for the “betterment” of society, better for the “purpose”, better for eternity…and people fall for it.
Religious leaders taking children as brides, politicians taking children as harems, gangs taking children as killers, politicians and “leaders” for whatever reason they dream up, and can convince their “followers” how much better it is for them to make that sacrifice.
And it happened right here, not of “experiments” but for the good of “whatever they can sell”, usually under the guise of religion.

right2bright on July 24, 2009 at 4:55 PM

Keep in mind that less than 1% of the population of all of North Korea controls over 99% of the rest of the population. Fear and intimidation, and total control over the media can easily accomplish that sort of thing.

Thus, those 99% are nothing more than commoddities to be used by the less than 1%.

Staying within that 1% is a lifetime task. Getting into that 1% is nearly impossible other than through birth to a standing member.

Visit Google Earth when you get the chance.

Compare the housing for the masses in P’yongyang with the housing of the elites. Then compare both to the housing afforded the rest of the nation.

In the late 1990′s Kim Chong-il authored a book on getting back to nature for good health and provided recipes for meals from grass and tree bark…calling on the starving population to emulate the legends of the anti-Japanese patriots who allegedly subsisted on such. He never mentioned that he was born and raised in the Soviet Union, and he never had to eat grass and tree bark…nor did any member of that top 1%, and while Kim Chong-il exhorted the populace to eat grass and tree bark, he was eating quite well, as all UN food shipments to North Korea went to a Korean Workers party warehouse outside of P’yongyang for distribution to the elites and the military. When the UN food relief folks wanted to set up centers across the nation to distribute food to starving North Koreans, Kim said simply “No.”

And the UN? They said, “OK.”

This is why a smooth transition to Kim Jung-un is vital. If there is a rift among the elites, it can easily translate to a rift across the nation. Should ordinary citizens gain access to P’yongyang, or to the KWP and military commissaries…they will not be in a mood to accept furtherance of the Kim Dynasty. There will be blood.

ted c on July 24, 2009 at 4:48 PM

He’ll turn a blind eye like Obama already has there in NK and also Iran.

If snagged by the media, which the MSM wouldn’t dare, he’ll ‘clarify’ his point or find other ways to excuse it, denying culpability; the you-quoted-me-out-of-context defense.

Or, ‘you misunderstood’

Or, ‘I never said that’

Or, ‘You’re part of the vast right wing conspiracy’

And the MSM will roll over in silence while your grandmother is denied medical care under Obama.

And another thing: It’s called Obamacare but the Dem party as a whole has to pass it. If it goes through, and when it shows itself to be the disaster it’s going to be, whose name is on it?

Seems the Dems are setting up to make the first black president take the hit on this mess for all history to come.

Just an idea on that last.

You can bet this military man, thought long and hard, and was “moved” to do what was “best”.
So, yeah, you are right, but not necessarily only liberals. To many, children are just a piece of furniture.

When the UN food relief folks wanted to set up centers across the nation to distribute food to starving North Koreans, Kim said simply “No.”

And the UN? They said, “OK.”

Well what were they supposed to say? The UN invasion of North Korea did not succeed. Kim has sovereignity over that territory.

The NORKS are also getting mighty chummy with Myanmar..Now, there’s a union made in hell.

This might be the most upsetting thing I have ever read. I have no words to describe how horrific it is.

NoKo testing bio-chem weapons on disabled children

After the tests, I imagine they would be disabled.

I’m a Bible-thumper. I won’t speak to the question you asked or the answer you received, but rather tell you what I believe.

Children are a father’s crown. Prophets come and go, and most are false as Jesus told. God Himself required Abraham to offer his son–no middle-man prophet involved. According to Scripture, God Himself spoke directly to Abraham. And Abraham believed God, and to him it was accounted as righteousness.

God didn’t take Isaac, and instead sent a goat for sacrifice.

Believing God is one thing, while bowing to an ungodly State is another. Whoever spoke those words you claim were written/said was NOT a subject of a nation controlled by mere men who know not the Creator. I won’t condemn that person, but if I ever speak with him we’ll have much to discuss.

It’s not possible to link a person who believes a national leader is somehow a god, to someone who believes in He who is greater than Man.

Enough said there.

If the State says I have to give up my child, they’ll have to kill me first.

If God wants me to sacrifice my child, the Majesty of Creation, who I believe is above all things, will have to come tell me so in Person.

God doesn’t work that way, however. God comes quietly, asking for the human heart.

Tyrannies come with guns to take your heart after they stripped you of everything else. Therein lies the difference.

The past few days have proven to me we’re one click away from doing the same thing in this country. How far-fetched is it to think a sitting POTUS wants a health plan where care is rationed to those found to be unworthy, especially the elderly? He’s always promoted stemcell research and doesn’t seem to have a moral obligation to make sure it’s on adult stemcells, not embryonic. When babies can be thrown in dumpsters with no remorse from a vast portion of the country…we’re almost there.

However, a regime capable of this barbarity cannot be trusted to honor agreements without a boot on its neck and a gun to its temple.

Reminds me of a line from the Godfather. I hope some here know what I`m referring to.”Either your brains or your signature will be on that contract.”

I like that approach.

Something for the Dems to consider in their approach to health care?

Last summer a North Korean aircraft was denied permission to overfly India on its way to Iran…from Myanmar.

We all watched the North Koreans play games with a coastal freighter last month, heading for Myanmar.

Unfortunately we have no access to Chinese domestic flight data, and the North Koreans know that the information we might have is so highly classified the American public will never hear of it. Thus, the question…is it possible for a North Korean cargo flight using a Koryo Air Il-62 or Il-76 fly from Sunan, North Korea to Shenyang, China, and then onward to Chongqing or Kunming and then onward to Myanmar? The answer? Yes.

And we’d know little about the flight, its route and cargo until well after it completed its delivery.
