Awesomely awesome: War breaking out among Democrats over ObamaCare

posted at 8:30 pm on July 24, 2009 by Allahpundit

Ed touched on it earlier this afternoon but things seem to have deteriorated further since then. Polite disagreement over the appropriate policy ends? Not so much:

The seven Blue Dogs on the Energy and Commerce Committee stormed out of a Friday meeting with their committee chairman, Henry Waxman (D-Calif.), saying Waxman had been negotiating in bad faith over a number of provisions Blue Dogs demanded be changed in the stalled healthcare bill.

“I’ve been lied to,” Blue Dog Coalition Co-Chairman Charlie Melancon (D-La.) said on Friday. “We have not had legitimate negotiations…

If the two sides cannot reach an agreement, the only hope for passage of the bill in the House will be to go straight to the floor, an option leaders shied away from endorsing but said was an option.

But the Blue Dogs issued dire warnings to leaders contemplating that approach.

“Waxman simply does not have votes in committee and process should not be bypassed to bring the bill straight to floor,” Rep. Mike Ross (D-Ark.), the lead Blue Dog negotiator, said on Friday. “We are trying to save this bill and trying to save this party.”

Melancon claims there are 40-45 “hard no” votes right now; it’s unclear to what extent that number overlaps with the 40 potential no’s if the bill ends up with a provision funding abortion. Rather than blather on, though, I’ll hand you over to this enjoyable report from FNC about the ongoing meltdown. Pay particular attention to what James Clyburn has to say about the extent of the infighting. What a week.

No matter what form it may take to get passed, it’s no more than a raw power grab on a scale never thought possible in this nation. It will spell the absolute end of western prosperity and personal liberties, and finally trigger the collapse of our currency, starting a new civil war.

JetBoy on July 24, 2009 at 8:51 PM

When is Obama going to be truthful with the public about his plan. When will he tell them about his mandatory “end of life” counseling and the obvious drive toward senior euthanasia? When will he tell them about “Palliative” treatment, or more commonly known as we won’t give you the operation you need so take these pain pills instead? When will be tell them about the rationing that will ultimately deny them the care necessary to stay alive. When will be tell them that Democrats believe seniors are a drag on society and should be encouraged to die rather than get life saving care? When will he tell them that this plan has the same effect as gas chambers but it just isn’t as straight forward? This is a frightening and cold hearted piece of legislation and it is the anthesis of everything this country stands for. You better speak up people before you lose it all . . . and I mean that literally. Don’t let anybody deny these effects without proof. The prohibitive costs are only the tip of the iceberg. Poor and rationed care, loss of freedom and liberty and premature death are the really sad issues we will be forced to deal with. What’s next, “Soylent Green” factories?” Obama’s “Brave New World” makes “1984” look like the epitome of a participative democracy. The plan is on line in PDF format and everyone should download it, read it and keep it for reference. e.

Typical of Nostrildamus (Waxman) to be back stabbing his own committee members while nefariously giving the impression he’s on board with them.

Waxman’s such a descpicable little turd. He probably can’t help it though. I imagine it’s the result of something tantamount to PTSD. I can easily picture him being beat up for his lunch money and having his underoo’s wedgied every single day of his life when he was a kid. For Nostrildamus, his adult station is now all about payback time and underhandedly sabotaging the ‘big kids’ while feigning allegiance and camaraderie just so he can get what he wants, or get what his boss wants… just so he can ingraciate himself with the boss.

He’s such a cowardly little insect of a man.

No, the conservative platform is what it always has been. Conservatives are in search of someone to lead the party. Currently, the GOP claims to be the “conservative” party.

They are wrong. It is the GOP that is in search of platform, not conservatives.

“Our group of seven has always believed that we want to be a constructive part of the legislative process,” Ross said. “Earlier today it appeared that those negotiations had reached a standstill. The chairman has now invited us to sit back down with him again and continue those negotiations.

“Talks are back on,” Ross added.
