We were sure ahead of the game with our recommendation and idea why Sarah should not run for re-election. I love it when when vindication rules the day.
Thank God that Sarah was not a mossback conservative but an unorthodox conservative like we are.
Where did you go Bradky? Run out things to say. All I want to know from you is if you have another name for 2012 give it up but just remember no windsocks.
I don’t think money will be a problem for her. She seems to have a knack of tapping into the American pulse and she resonates. It’s natural for her.
And with her exposure in the lower 48 for her book and campaigning and I’m sure tv appearances…well, I think she could play a big role for 2010 which in turn could translate into even more political capital for 2012 if we’re successful in asking/cajoling/begging/shanghaiing her into running.
If you’re a Republican, it’s okay to love her. She can be a conservative / Republican icon for you for many years to come. But as a contender for President, she’s far too damaged, and she’s NOT going to be able to turn it around in the next three years.
Vyce on July 23, 2009 at 11:05 PM
Damaged goods? Not hardly.
Supposedly Reagan was “an actor” and “unserious” all the way until the ‘there you go again’ debate with carter in 1980.
Supposedly JFK was too young and inexperienced until his tv debate with the sitting VP nixon in 1960.
Face it, Obamanomics will lead to 10%+ unemployment for the next three years, including massive inflation, a horrible stagnation as whatever manufacturing still exists dries up, and a bloated welfare-like budget as less workers=less workers pumping money into entitlement programs.
The end result?
In 2012, the ultra-RINO, gay, ex-Mormon/atheist, born-in-Nairobi, NPR-listening, wine-sipping, philosophy-degree-at-Vassar, pro-choice love child of Mel Martinez & Olympia Snowe could beat Obama with room to spare.

Wow, what happened to Bradky? Was he on vacation or something?
Bradky,
Sarah is going to defeat the man-child.
By the way, like Sarah, I don’t read newspapers and magazines either. I get my news from the net, and I read books.
Newspapers and magazines are for losers.
Except the Time magazine at the airport with Sarah’s photo. I bought it and ripped the page off and handed the rest right back to the cashier. Nailed up the photo on the wall next to the calendar.
I guess they are good sometimes for something I suppose.
Bradky on July 24, 2009 at 1:12 AM
Hey Bradky where is your scorched earth rhetoric now? I’ll give a tip since you have run out things to say. Stay off Palin threads in the future if you can’t contribute anything positive to the conversation. If you choose to rejoin us here, all I want to know from you is if you have another name for 2012 presidential race. Give it up to us & remember no windsocks.
What if Sarah does like Cheney’s Daughter? Just helps others?
Would you all be disappointed?
I am curious.
upinak on July 24, 2009 at 1:40 AM
I think I would be pretty bummed.
I mean sure, the focus right now is defeat this administration’s leftist agenda, then take the house and senate away from them…
But if after that she didn’t go on, I don’t know…I think I’d be disappointed because I feel she wouldn’t be living up to her fullest potential and I think personally that she is one of the only ones who has a chance to defeat Obama.
I don’t know if I’d be all that thrilled if she wasted her gifts trying to drag a RINO like Romney across the finish lines. I’d much prefer her work to take back the GOP from the mushy middle…the ones who are scared that DeMint’s “Waterloo” quote sets a bad tone…and then goes to work for the American people undoing the damage this administration is doing.
What if Sarah does like Cheney’s Daughter? Just helps others?
Would you all be disappointed?
I am curious.
upinak on July 24, 2009 at 1:40 AM
Hell yes!
They should be running as a team. And when the hell is the Liz Cheney calendar coming out? I’ve got another space on the wall for her calendar.
Between Sarah and that shotgun photo and Liz bitchslappin Carville yesterday, I know who the real fighters in the GOP are.
Newt? Mitt? Bobby? Yah right. Gutless. Bobby is a nice guy but such a complete total nerd. When you see him go into geek mode you just want to garbage can him and roll him down the hill.
What if Sarah does like Cheney’s Daughter? Just helps others?
Would you all be disappointed?
I am curious.
upinak on July 24, 2009 at 1:40 AM
Disappointed, yes, because I think she’s the best choice at this point. But she could do a lot of good just helping others, and the 2010 Congressional races are really more crucial now than the 2012 presidential race.

upinak on July 24, 2009 at 1:40 AM]…
I would be disappointed, but I don’t belive Palin will disappoint.
Past behavior is the best predictor of future behavior.
I believe she will answer the call to service, as she always has before.
….does she endorse MARCO RUBIO for the 2010 Florida Senate primary? it’s pretty late, in august, so she has a chance to throw her weight behind him in early 2010 and back ‘true conservatives’.
that would be huge if rubio could knock off crist. in all the grassroots polls, county gop parties, etc., crist is creamed… lee county rubio won the party heads like 79-11 or something…. if rubio could get some $ and momentum, it would be really really good for conservatives
Oops, I read your comment & responded to fast. I will only add that if Palin wants to just help others like Liz Cheney then that would be okay. I want Sarah Palin to do what is best for her family first and everything after that is a bonus for Alaska and the rest people of America. There are few people that I truly care about and even fewer people that I would I trust outside my own family. I will just put it to you simply — I trust Sarah Palin.
I admit I am pretty sad she is going. But I am supporting her no matter where she goes.
If she sits it out.. I don’t blame her in the least. It would be wise to watch what is going on concerning the voting process (as we all know) and the to watch the money trails. She could actually shut that down … depending on what news would want to broadcast it.
But as everyone knows… people like and live on negativity.
of those still up and reading, who would be UNACCEPTABLE to you from the gop in 2012?
I pretty much think most any republican has a good shot of taking down obama in 2012 (assuming the economy will still be a train wreck for reasons above).
Various ‘assumed’ possibles from the media, etc. for 2012:
….but as for me i’d be happy with any of them EXCEPT: huckabee, rino, or ronpaul. I think newt is brilliant but i think him running is a waste. He doesn’t draw crowds like palin (or even crazy ron paul). I dont really trust romney but i think he’s possibly a strong candidate. And rudy can be as pro-choice as hillary, and as long as he takes names and kicks jihadi butt i’m happy.
Ok guys… there is obviously a difference. Some say she is good to go and other says they would be disappointed.
Now.. with what you guys are thinking.
Are you more worried that she won’t run because of Obama and the issues with the Dems?
or
Are you worried she will just sit it out?
upinak on July 24, 2009 at 2:03 AM
Palin is not worried Obama or the issues with the Democrats because that is not how a conservative rolls. I’m not worried about her sitting out either. Palin’s possible work down in the lower 48 will establish the conservative/republican platform for 2010. What happens after that is to be seen. If she decides to to sit it out then all eyes will be on who Palin comes out to endorse for 2012. The base and or the grassroots will heed her advice one way or the other. The elites of the republican party would be making a grevious error for the GOP if they can’t recognize that Palin is the new standard for political conservatism. Without the conservatives in the republican party there is no future for GOP.
What if Sarah does like Cheney’s Daughter? Just helps others?
Would you all be disappointed?

upinak on July 24, 2009 at 1:40 AM
She needs to keep us guessing, and possibly keep herself guessing, for as long as possible to maximize her power/value. Depending on how things go, she might come under pressure relatively early to put her cards on the table in order to let the GOP coalesce around someone else if necessary, or to give alternative candidates attractive to her base a better shot. It’s still hard to see why she would make her decision, or maker decision known, before 2011.
IMHO, the polls and constant media attention over the next 16 months will keep Sarah in the game. Her supporters will never desert her unless she does not run for POTUS in 2012.
as a contender for President, she’s far too damaged, and she’s NOT going to be able to turn it around in the next three years.
Vyce on July 23, 2009 at 11:05 PM
Well, this is all just speculation, so let’s speculate some more.
1. Palin right now can energize more of the Republican base than any five other candidates put together. If Palin was schedule to speak at almost any venue in the lower 48, the audience will be bursting at the seams. If Romney or Huckabee are scheduled to speak you could fit their audience in a restaurant backroom and still have space for the USC football team.
2. Events make a President. If Palin runs and wins the nomination (no sure thing despite her popularity, but we’re just speculating here) then she’s running against Obama’s record. If Obama is trying to defend double-digit unemployment, slow or negative growth, and an expanding deficit and overreaching federal government, well, let’s just say a campaign slogan of: “I inherited all of this” will not excite the masses.
In fact, after four years of central planning by “brilliant” Ivy League professors with big degrees and little common sense or real world experience, the pendulum will swing to a candidate that has actually done something and is interested in giving power back to the people rather than running their lives.
The pundits wrote off Reagan in ’76 after he lost to Ford in the primaries. He was too old, too conservative, and – so the punditry whispered – too dumb.
I’d say Palin is still a long shot, but events make the President. They always have and they always will. We can only wait and see how events unfold over the next three years.
1)charisma and drawing power
2)to ability to raise as much money as she needs
3)the cogent eloquence to enlarge her tent and attract moderates Republicans, independents and Reagan Democrats
I agree with those, though #3 is perhaps a bit iffy. I think though you miss
4) Solid and extensive grassroots organization run by a competent/brilliant campaign manager.
Reagan and Palin have 1) through 3), but Reagan also had 4). Romney and Huckabee are far ahead of Palin in that regards. You might scoff that 4) doesn’t matter, but it does when you’re in Iowa and you have to make sure that your people get to the caucauses on time and ready to fight.
The only thing I disagree with is when you deem Sarah Palin a long shot. When a superstar competes in earnest against an opponent who he considers his #1 nemesis, he or she is never a long shot.
The only thing I disagree with is when you deem Sarah Palin a long shot.
technopeasant on July 24, 2009 at 2:35 AM
From where I’m sitting right now, I’d deem any of the Republican candidates a long shot to unseat Obama. The President has a lot of built-in advantages that will make it difficult to beat him. Given what a piss-poor job he’s done so far, the fact that he’s still getting decent approval ratings (though dropping) is a concern. If the economy ticks up even the smallest amount in the next three years, the MSM will hail it as the greatest recovery since Moses parted the Red Sea. Sad, but I fear true.
I will leave you a line uttered by Fred Thompson a few weeks agon on Fox News.
“Whenever Sarah calls there will be hundreds of political consultants ready and willing to fly up to Alaska at a moment’s notice.”
technopeasant on July 24, 2009 at 2:39 AM
I don’t doubt it. But to use the Reagan example, he had a team that he built up over the course of 10 years with some very solid campaign experience. They knew him and he knew them. It’s harder to do on the fly and consultants grabbed “off the shelf”.
I’m not discounting what you’re saying, I’m just tempering it.
Palin will ultimately be a big fail. She never wants to do the hard work in government like policy analysis….
It’s about soundbites and campaigning and nothing about actually work.
It’s up to Palin…. She should stick to being a celebrity who is loved and hated….. or she should go become a politician that’s represented by the masses with a decent chance of becoming president some day
“battleoflepanto1571 on July 24, 2009 at 2:10 AM”

I’ve never met Sarah Louise Heath Palin, am not beholden to her, nor she to me. not a single person can blame her if she were to write, fish, hunt, cuddle trig, snuggle with Todd, and do NOTHING else. would i be disappointed if she never sits in the oval office? yeah. would i be disappointed if she never even runs for it? a little. but will i survive and move on to other candidates to support? hell yeah.

PackerBronco on July 24, 2009 at 2:41 AM
You give Obama too much credit. What “built-in” advantages are you talking about? He’s now a liability, and his approval rating is at 51% with Rasmussen. That’s dismal for a new President at this juncture. He’s lost his mojo. People are tired of seeing him; he is out of touch and incoherent; and they are all waking up to the fact that the emperor wears no clothes.
Haven’t you noticed that he’s on the defense? The GOP is starting to gain momentum. They are outpolling the Dems in the economy for the first time in years.
The tide is turning. I can sense it, and so do many others. Even locally I’ve noticed that the Obamabots are silent and embarassed.
He’s finished, unless he parts the Red Sea in the next 3 years, i.e., brings back the economy; and you know he is ignorant of sound economic principles, so that’s not going to happen.
Mark my words, If Palin doesn’t change her ways she won’t go anywhere in politics.
She will be one of those right wing celebrities that no one talks about.
I hope Sarah proves me wrong!… TIME TO STUDY UP SALLY BEFORE IT”S TOO LATE.
TimeTraveler on July 24, 2009 at 2:59 AM
Whenever I see someone write or say “MARK MY WORDS” it reminds me of the all the losers I’ve heard or read about. They also like to say things like famous last words, take it or leave it, heed my warnings and so on… Spare us your self-described fortune telling and get some sleep because your writings here are becoming very tiresome.

atheling on July 24, 2009 at 2:53 AM
The tide is always turning in a Democracy. It’s totalitarians regimes that have placid waters (at least on the surface.) Obama’s approval ratings should be much lower given what a screw-up he is. The fact that they’re not should give you pause.
Why can’t u tell sarah to earn her policy stripes? It will only help her in the long run if she does….
I don;t undstand why u attacking me.
TimeTraveler on July 24, 2009 at 3:31 AM
My apologies to you Time Traveler. Sarah Palin will do what Sarah Pain will do. You’re silliness is just that, silly. Charles Krauthammer has already given her that advice to study up on all the issues. You’re late to the party and I am only teasing you. Get some well deserved rest good friend and in the immediate future focus your energies on stopping this Obama/Chicago machine that is trying to destroy our country.
Good night folks, this is my last comment for this thread.
Palin will ultimately be a big fail. She never wants to do the hard work in government like policy analysis….
What are you talking about?
“Policy analysis” is for wonks.
Being governor is about action.
Gov. Palin ran the state with actions, backed by her Conservative policies.
It’s about soundbites and campaigning and nothing about actually work.
TimeTraveler on July 24, 2009 at 2:47 AM
‘Scuse me, but Gov. Palin worked her a$$ off as Governor!
Check out her record as to what she accomplished, then compare it to either Bill Clinton’s as governor of Arkansas or Ahnuld’s as CA governor.
They could only dream of doing as well as she did!
Our media is nothing more than Pravda West and has no credibility what-so-ever.
The media’s over the top adoration of our Amatuer and Chief is only helping Palin. The public knows that the MSM is largely responsible for propping up a failed community organizer into the Presidency who has instituted failed policy after failed policy and helping smear a strong, accomplished woman like Palin.
Their cut-and-paste smears will not have the same effect this time and Palin will not be held back by the incompetence of the McCain campaign.
Palin’s GOP convention speech is proving to be more insightful and accurate by each passing day while the media has exposed for all the Nation to see how out of touch and ignorant they are.
If the GOP(elites) are smart, they will support Palin 100%.
So we got a Ras poll saying shes within 6 points, with out doing anything.
Now we got a new poll showing her support falling.
I see on the Beast they desperately want her to run because “she’ll lose and destroy the republican party”.
Yeah, these guys are so smart…Obama is doing everything the Beast wants him to do, all liberals are so happy with his aggressive agenda, and his numbers are sinking like the titanic.
I can certainly trust what a bunch of out-of-touch libs have to say about what she should do.
We have 3 and a half years to deal with this guy; yeah NO doubt, if she runs he wins another 4 years.

Vyce on July 23, 2009 at 11:05 PM
Who do you have in mind?
Americannodash on July 23, 2009 at 11:15 PM
Late to responding to this, but….
If the economy continues to tank, and I think it will, my choice would be Romney. Because if nothing else, he does have a good history of governance when it comes to economics, both as governor of MA and as a private businessman. If the economy is crap in 2012, then I think people will look at someone who has a proven record on economic matters as the alternative to the idiot who wrecked things in four years far worse than he claimed Bush did in 8.
I’m not a huge Romney person, though I suppose I have some respect for the guy (insofar as I can have respect for any modern politician).
I have nothing against Sarah…..she was the only thing that got me excited about old man McCain’s campaign last year. But I think a lot of people in the conservative circles are deluding themselves about Sarah. I think she’s got the same cult-of-personality thing that Obama has, and I just don’t think she could win against him, even if he’s weak in 2012, because he’ll have the game stacked in his favor (with being an incumbent, with the media once again doing a full-court-press to get him re-elected, etc.).
I’m glad I’m a guy, because after the world found out about Sarah, found out about her strength, the things she’s done. There’s GOT to be a LOT of women who thought they were strong second guessing themselves.
I just read the on line Washington (com)Post and their headline was about Palin’s favorable rating dropping to 40%. The world and the country is speeding down the sewer (Iran, Korea, Afghanistan, socialist health care, political attacks on our police officers, crooked mayors and rabbis) and this left wing electronic rag is obsessed with Palin’s poll numbers. It appears that the main stream media are panicking and are finding it difficult to impossible to prop up and defend their socialist messiah.
I kind of agree with the cult-of-personality thing about Palin. But I don’t think she couldn’t win against him.
I personally think that a Romney/Palin ticket would be tremendous. I think Romney is a phony, but he’s got the chops, and Palin has the charisma.
Her being the VP candidate takes the uncertainty out of the equation to some extent.
If things keep going like they are now, Obama will be a 1 termer.
Liberals disagree? I’ll be darned. In the land of rainbows, unicorns, and Utopia, everything is fine, thank you.
The House and Senate both need to be replaced. If anyone in this country votes for any incumbment regardless of party your are an idiot. I’m just saying.
the culture of corruption extends a lot further south then just NJ.
You know, if some of you kids have a point to make, you can either SHOUT LIKE YOU FORGOT TO TAKE YOUR RITALIN, or you can hit the “strong” button right above the message box and make it look like this. You can even hit the “emphasis” button to make it look even more different.
Hey that was fun.
I love Sarah. I’m upset because she quit, and I just can’t stand being a quitter. (You know, quitting at being governor.) I also believe that conservatism should be about ideas, like Bobby Jindal says, not cults of personalities. But I’m gonna give her the benefit of the doubt, knowing that she is taking a great political risk.
Just wait until Sarah starts to speak her mind. Her UF will go down and her F will go up. Not many have taken on O directly yet well that is about to change. The MSM is an accomplice to O and will be exposed as such. Sarah will question the media as to why they have not done their jobs. The public has no idea what O has really done but once they do he is sunk and Sarah will be there to pick up the pieces.
Sarah is on the verge to change history if she whats to. Very few have been in Sarah’s position to make real history.
One last thought Sarah whats O’s hide on her political wall.
I have tweeted this before but got some criticism back about this ticket being too right winged and that “we need someone that can attract independents”:
BOEHNER/PALIN 2012
I cannot fathom Boehner bowing down, lying, and is a bona fide 100% genuine American. Ha, I even think he’s a teenagers’ worst nightmare.
Those two? Have balls! I don’t care about independent votes b/c they don’t support O as per polls, nor Democrats care about attracting independent votes (look at what happened and what is going on right now).
These two have guts, gills, teeth and tell it like they see it and will tell it to anyone’s face. Dunno if two A-type personalities do well together, but on this case I don’t think so.
Is no one looking at the polls? The public doesn’t care for Palin, and no one thinks she’s qualified outside of die hard Palin people.
By the way- NO ONE is scared of Sarah Palin. Anyone who runs against her can simply check the polling data to see that most people just don’t care for her, and after that- why would you be scared at all?
They must be pro-life at a minimum since all other isues are contingent on it.
They must be for picking interpretationists for all judicial positions too. This would increase the chance of Roe vs. Wade being overturned so the abortion issue can rightfully be moved to the state level.
At the national level, the Congress would handle it if they choose, which they won’t because it is so hot.
The polling is showing that Sarah would easily get the GOP nomination. The polling is also showing that she is closing the gap on Obama without even trying.
Now that she will be free at the national level, she can work full-time.
I would wait another year and see if her numbers improve. I suspect they will.
The real Sarah is a very good person and a very likable common sense populist of the libertarian/conservative variety.
Yes, they attack her because she is dangerous to the statist hegemony.
Lynn Cheney has said that she might be interested in running for office. So far Lynn Cheney & Dad and Sarah Palin are the only folks outside of DC that are actually not whimped out about Barack Obama. They are the only ones that have stood against that fraud. The attacks on Palin are constant and shrill. Yet she answers them all. These two ladies are the only ones that are doing the job and are taking the fire. There aren’t any Republicans standing up politically. Don’t hear anything from Romney. Huckabee? Not much from him either. He is held down by his TV show.
So far in the House John Boehner is the only one with a voice and he appears to be the Lone Ranger. Jim DeMint in the Senate is doing Mitch McConnell’s job for him. If no one has started standing up to be counted by now considering what we have been through in the last 6 months then they aren’t going to stand a chance.
If Sarah decided not to run in 2012 I would be very disappointed. However, she has to do what is right for her. I don’t think that is the case. If I had her talents for politics I would do it. She has a great family support system so they have her covered. Her family is behind her 100% and her country needs her. She drives the Dems crazy. Who else can do that?
Is no one looking at the polls? The public doesn’t care for Palin, and no one thinks she’s qualified outside of die hard Palin people.
By the way- NO ONE is scared of Sarah Palin. Anyone who runs against her can simply check the polling data to see that most people just don’t care for her, and after that- why would you be scared at all?

WOW, spoken like a true Liberal or RINO no difference!
How to respond to such ignorance?
Sarah Palin has taken more slings, arrows and outright creepy personal attacks than any politician ever and still remains a front runner in any polls.
She has yet to respond or run. Wait another week when she is not shackled by constraints of the office of Governor, where evry thing she says or does is met with a frivolous lawsuit.
Upinak, I for one will be disappointed if she does not run for POTUS and if she does not run as an independent to clean up the two party corruptocrat system we now have.
After the batch of corrupt, lying, tax dodging, bribe taking and giving, philandering, A$$hat Siocialists we now have running this country and the place we will be as a result of their takeover of the free market, the country will welcome a reformer not afraid to run the Dems and Rinos out of D.C. and many of us will gladly follow her with pitchforks and torches lit!
You ain’t seen nothin yet!
They poked the bear or in this case (Cuda) and soon she will respond free of the shackles of Juan McGoodOldBoyIts MyTurnNowRino McCain or the Governorship.
The prey will soon become the predator, the target the marksman and Liberals and I hope RINO’s will will feel the bite of she who was previously limited in ability to respond.
Heartache: Palin got dumped on in some WaPo poll out this morning.
Sigh. We’ll see how the O is looking in the next few weeks. I don’t see how he can get this healthcare jenie back in the bottle.
BuckeyeSam on July 24, 2009 at 6:26 AM
There’s a Rasmussen poll out today showing Obama’s approval rating at 49%–the first day it was below 50%. Any guess what his approval rating might be in 2012? Maybe in the vicinity of his comrade from the Land of Lincoln, Rod Blagojevich?
Except for the fact this destrucuction of the healthcare industry is written to take effect in 2013 thus he saves his A$$ by saying he passed a grand reform and the effects are not felt by the sheeple until after he runs again.
Same thing with Simupaloosa. Doesn’t most of it take effect in 2012 just in time for the midterm run so’s the porksters can go back to their states and run on all the money they confiscated form the American people and gave to their union buddies, non working porch sitters, wealthy bankrollers and ACORN?
This town needs reformed Term Limits would eliminate a lot of this kind of pandering and giveaway of taxpayer funds to buy votes!
Both Parties are guilty thats’ why Sarah needs to run as an independent REFORMER and tear their playhouse down!
Blowback

I don’t think money will be a problem for her. She seems to have a knack of tapping into the American pulse and she resonates. It’s natural for her.
And with her exposure in the lower 48 for her book and campaigning and I’m sure tv appearances…well, I think she could play a big role for 2010 which in turn could translate into even more political capital for 2012 if we’re successful in asking/cajoling/begging/shanghaiing her into running.

Sarah has the 3 prequisites to run for POTUS:
1)charisma and drawing power
2)to ability to raise as much money as she needs
3)the cogent eloquence to enlarge her tent and attract moderates Republicans, independents and Reagan Democrats
Most politicians would be feel fortunate to excel in 2 of 3. Sarah is a ’10′ in each category. That Tiger Woods territory.

Just my tuppence.

….does she endorse MARCO RUBIO for the 2010 Florida Senate primary? it’s pretty late, in august, so she has a chance to throw her weight behind him in early 2010 and back ‘true conservatives’.
that would be huge if rubio could knock off crist. in all the grassroots polls, county gop parties, etc., crist is creamed… lee county rubio won the party heads like 79-11 or something…. if rubio could get some $ and momentum, it would be really really good for conservatives

upinak on July 24, 2009 at 2:07 AM
of those still up and reading, who would be UNACCEPTABLE to you from the gop in 2012?
I pretty much think most any republican has a good shot of taking down obama in 2012 (assuming the economy will still be a train wreck for reasons above).
Various ‘assumed’ possibles from the media, etc. for 2012:
-Romney
-Palin
-Newt
-Haley Barbour
-Huckabee
-Pawlenty
-Fred!
-Jindal
-Rudy
-dark horse true conservative (thune, rick perry, etc.)
-dark horse rino (bloomberg, john mccain!, etc.)
-dark horse deranged crank (ronpaul)
I’m sure i’m leaving some out….
So my “NO” list would be HUCK, any RINOS, PAUL

powerpro on July 24, 2009 at 2:19 AM
Americannodash on July 24, 2009 at 2:20 AM
She needs to keep us guessing, and possibly keep herself guessing, for as long as possible to maximize her power/value. Depending on how things go, she might come under pressure relatively early to put her cards on the table in order to let the GOP coalesce around someone else if necessary, or to give alternative candidates attractive to her base a better shot. It’s still hard to see why she would make her decision, or maker decision known, before 2011.

IMHO, the polls and constant media attention over the next 16 months will keep Sarah in the game. Her supporters will never desert her unless she does not run for POTUS in 2012.
technopeasant on July 24, 2009 at 2:27 AM
PackerBronco on July 24, 2009 at 2:27 AM
I agree with those, though #3 is perhaps a bit iffy. I think though you miss
4) Solid and extensive grassroots organization run by a competent/brilliant campaign manager.
Reagan and Palin have 1) through 3), but Reagan also had 4). Romney and Huckabee are far ahead of Palin in that regards. You might scoff that 4) doesn’t matter, but it does when you’re in Iowa and you have to make sure that your people get to the caucauses on time and ready to fight.

PackerBronco on July 24, 2009 at 2:33 AM
I will leave you a line uttered by Fred Thompson a few weeks agon on Fox News.
“Whenever Sarah calls there will be hundreds of political consultants ready and willing to fly up to Alaska at a moment’s notice.”
technopeasant on July 24, 2009 at 2:39 AM
From where I’m sitting right now, I’d deem any of the Republican candidates a long shot to unseat Obama. The President has a lot of built-in advantages that will make it difficult to beat him. Given what a piss-poor job he’s done so far, the fact that he’s still getting decent approval ratings (though dropping) is a concern. If the economy ticks up even the smallest amount in the next three years, the MSM will hail it as the greatest recovery since Moses parted the Red Sea. Sad, but I fear true.
PackerBronco on July 24, 2009 at 2:41 AM
I don’t doubt it. But to use the Reagan example, he had a team that he built up over the course of 10 years with some very solid campaign experience. They knew him and he knew them. It’s harder to do on the fly and consultants grabbed “off the shelf”.
I’m not discounting what you’re saying, I’m just tempering it.
PackerBronco on July 24, 2009 at 2:44 AM
Palin will ultimately be a big fail. She never wants to do the hard work in government like policy analysis….

Buckaroo on July 24, 2009 at 2:53 AM

Run, Sarah, Run!
