Video: Chris Matthews can’t get enough of the sweet, sweet birth certificate Trutherism
posted at 8:06 pm on July 22, 2009 by Allahpundit
A “Hardball” reprise of yesterday’s topic du jour. Per Blankley’s comments, I’m wondering: Who was the last president whom both sides agreed was completely legitimate? You have to go back to Bush 41, no? Clinton never won a majority of the vote; Bush 43 lost the popular vote in 2000 and then, according to nutroots lore, won in 2004 because Diebold rigged the vote in Ohio or whatever. And now we’ve got The One, whose sinister plot to falsely establish citizenship evidently extends to planting fake birth announcements in Hawaiian newspapers in 1961. If Palin wins in 2012, it’ll be fun to see what conspiratorial delegitimizing detail the left comes up with. No doubt Andrew Sullivan is already on the case.
The fact that Matthews has run with this two nights in a row means, I guess, that MSNBC has finally replaced “Rush Limbaugh is the head of the GOP” as its chief line of attack against Republicans.

Or it means that so damned many people are asking to see his birth certificate, (you know, like oh the State of California’s Supreme court, the Head of the US Joint Chief of Staff), that MSNBC no longer feels they can completely ignore the question.

Its like this AP, you came in second place to win several million dollars…you just found out that the winner may have pulled a fast one but no one really cares and if proven, you are the actual winner of several million dollars….do you pursue it or do you just shrug it off because you fear being labled a sore loser if you end up being wrong? Phuck no! You are going to fight tooth and nail to make sure you did everything you could to get your hands on that cold hard cash!
Now imagine this scenario but for larger stakes? What about this seems so crazy to people?
javamartini on July 22, 2009 at 8:20 PM
Oh Come on! There didn’t have to be a sinister plot to cause the announcement to be false. Growing up, I saw a birth announcement for the child of the “good” Catholic girl who lived next door. Utter fiction.

This issue has a racial component to it. The woman who was screaming at the townhall said “I want my country back”.
Looks to me she is pissed because a black man is elected president. Bigots will still not let go.

Oh hush up you damned ignorant unwashed nirther, Obama himself showed Allapundit his birth certificate and swore on a Oxford Dictionary that it was genuine and really issued by the doctor who delivered Obama.

Chris Matthews is nothing more than a lowbrow political hack. He only does this crap to gin up the democrat base of hardcore lefties. Their attention gives him a leg tingle something akin to what he gets what Obama steps up to the teleprompter. The legislation in Congress has nothing to do with Barack Obama or his birth certificate or the 2008 elections and Matthews knows it. He’s just trying to get people stirred up so that he can break back into the ratings game. I know, it’s a pipe dream for him but still….
t.ferg on July 22, 2009 at 8:23 PM
It’s entirely a different scenario here.

We heard references to GWB being a coke head for 8 years. You know if there’s been one person that could be bought off to verify it, he’d have his own TV show right now.

They can tell you what Obama’s campaign told them and that’s all.

NeoKong on July 22, 2009 at 8:28 PM
Fake birth announcements never appear in newspapers, and if you think that they do, then you are just like the 9/11 truthers
Mr. ThrillGoingUpMyLeg is on his own on this one. Last thing obama and his acolytes want is more people hearing about and discussing obama’s certificate of live birth

Matthew is trying to keep it alive to make the GOP look like idiots, that’s usually his motive. Even if the guy doesn’t have a legitimate birth certificate it makes the party look bad. It’s a no win situation. It’s just like the people (my boss being one of them) who say to this day that it sure is fishy that a governor named Bush was in charge of the Florida votes and voila, his brother gets re-elected.
scalleywag on July 22, 2009 at 8:30 PM
The more they label those asking for documentation as “crazy”, the more I tend to believe there is something to cover up. The birth announcement in the newspaper does NOT say Obama was born in Hawaii. It says that he was born to parents who lived in Hawaii (and incorrectly says he was born to Mr. and Mrs. Barack H. Obama, and Obama admits that his parents were not then married). It is not uncommon for relatives to place a birth announcment in the local newspaper where a parent lives, even if the baby was born elsewhere. The newspaper announcements (at least those I have seen) just don’t prove that he was born in Hawaii.

Maybe Barack is really… an alien?
My God, I think I’ve stumbled onto something. All this time, the birthers were RIGHT! Just off the mark a little. He is really an alien from outer space!
The greatest trick our alien overlords ever pulled was making the American public think Obama was human.

The problem with your incredible ignorant assertion here is… Second hand testimony is not accepted in a court of law as verification of the veracity of a document. The document itself has to be produced. Hawaii’s governor said she saw the document and that it was genuine, she also refused to produce the document invalidating her own testimony. She further muddled the issue by sealing the document so that it could not be examined to verify that the information on it unequivocally verified that Obama was born at a specific hospital in Hawaii and delivered by a specific doctor and not simply registered as a live birth to a minor whose parents were residents of Hawaii who had very recently returned to Hawaii from Kenya Africa.
doriangrey on July 22, 2009 at 8:59 PM
He has already released documents on his birth.
You state that these are forged, that IS A CONSPIRACY. Simple as that.
The rest of the stuff seems irrelevant (or made up). As someone who believes in privacy, Obama should have the right. Some may disagree, but really, “OMG he is hiding his grades! He flunked LAW SCHOOL! Ramble ramble ramble!” Unless you believe something sinister, then I can’t help you.
I again bring up the outer space alien theory, which is WAY more appealing.

Captivating. What happened then?
Jim Treacher on July 22, 2009 at 9:00 PM
I guess I’m a birther. I’ve tried not to be.
I do not question whether or not Barack Obama was born in Hawaii. I believe that he was. I do question why he won’t just release his birth certificate and end this foolishness. Is it a Saul Alinsky tactic? Or, is he who he says he is?
Wouldn’t it be something if we found out that he’s another man’s son? That would mean that he has an entirely different last name. It would be a hoot if the first black president of the U.S. shared last names with the first (and only) president of the Confederacy?
I question his status in Indonesia more than his birth certificate. How did he get a visa to go to Pakistan in 1981?
The media can deride “birthers” all they want, but it’s because of they’re horrible lack of reporting that these questions exist. They’ve never delved into his years in Indonesia or the relationship he had with his mother’s husband at that time. No one has looked into his relationship with Frank Marshall Davis or into Davis’ background.
President Obama has a duty to produce his real birth certificate because if we had a true national crisis, his legitimacy could be called into question.
Don’t blame the birthers. Blame the media for leaving so many holes in our current president’s story.
The announcement in the paper? I’m sure there’s never been a case in which a woman has lied to her husband about the father of a newborn.

Has anyone on this board ever lived in Hawaii or been there in the late 50s, early 60s. I have and except for Honolulu, it was a pretty back water place. If your child wasn’t born in a hospital, you were required to present proof, evidence or just persuade an official that your child was born in the Islands. Along with this requirement was to publish a notice in the paper so all good citizens might have the opportunity to step forward with any objections. This leaves a lot of loopholes.
Obama might also have had dual citizenship, perhaps a disqualifying status. And that might be evident on his school records.
In any case, the dude is certainly not the ONE™ as he has had many names through his life: Barry Soetoro, Barry Dunham, and Barack Hussein Obama. Should be known as MUCH™…or something.
Of what I have read of Obama’s flakey non parents, they seem like system gamers and wouldn’t think twice about a little, paper scam.
We want to see the freakin’ long form.
PC14 on July 22, 2009 at 9:11 PM
Why does Obama, the “most transparent” president evah!, have more privacy than say, George Bush? The left demanded, and got, every piece of documentation from him, down to and including the macaroni art he made in kindergarten. Even then they had to make some up. Why does the left get everything they want, but somehow their guys get to play by different rules, Kerry doesn’t have to show his full military records, Obama doesn’t have to show anything? Bull.
And that “certification of live birth” on the web has been shown to be a forgery. Add that Obama has spent big money on the unprecedented sealing of his original birth certificate, the question becomes very legitimate indeed.

I don’t know for sure where Obama was born, Grandma Obama says Mombassa, Kenya is where she attended the birth of Barack Hussein Obama Jr. I know this, I have a birth certificate with my little feet prints on it. Dated 1946. Seems the years inbetween 46 and 61 they lost the ability to produce birth certificates. A certificate of live birth seem redundant considering he is breathing. I want to see a certificate with feetprints on it. Would be nice if Obama’s name and place of birth were also there. Why is that so difficult?

Now I don’t believe myself to be a man with all the answers….but I’ll give it a shot.
1. Ayers was brought up by McCain, a televised debate even, yet it didn’t gain any traction.
2. The Rev. Wright attack, no matter how much it complicated with Obama’s image, was political suicide and McCain knew it. Any criticism about Obama’s pastor would be portrayed, no matter how false, as racist. Is that fair? No. Would it have won McCain the election? No. Enough information was out there by the media already (this was during the primaries, Clinton benefited a little I think, not much).
3. The middle name controversy is due to the fact that the name Hussein is emphasized in some cases, which gives the appearance of xenophobia (and hint: Bitherism, alleged foreigner, etc.).

With his background (Alinsky, Acorn, Weather Underground, Black Liberation Theology, etc.), I would welcome an investigation on anything he did. Exposure is the only way to get the coackroaches out of the walls so you can give em the Black Flag!

I’ve been hearing some rumors about a one-night strike against cops….literally kill every cop you can.
I think this is some attempt to underpin a revolt against Obama’s fascism.
Anyone else heard anything?

But even Bush 41 was an illegtimate president since he became Vice President after Regan made the “secret hostage deal” (the so-called “October Surprise”) with the Iranians.
Tongue in cheek, now.
Hell, we haven’t had a legitimate president since… gulp.. Jimmy Carter?
Please tell me I didn’t type that sentence.

if Hardnut thinks all these people are crazy, then why don’t he report the whole story. He keeps saying what he is showing is the BC, it’s not. He may have a real BC in Hawaii but that is not what he released. The question is not, “Is he a citizen?” Its, “Is he a Natural Born Citizen?” Matthew is not reporting all the stuff brought up about the issue. He is a hack, and nothing more.
