Obamateurism of the Day

posted at 8:05 am on July 22, 2009 by Ed Morrissey

For the standard-issue gaffe, one normally looks to Vice President Joe Biden, but this week he’s girl-watching in Ukraine, so we’ll stick with Barack Obama for today.  Politico reports that Obama accidentally told the truth about ObamaCare in a speech at Childrens National Medical Center in Washington Monday.  In the speech, he explained that ObamaCare would work a lot like the VA and the Indian Health Service:

Would health care reform bring “greater inefficiencies” to the country’s health care system?

That’s exactly what Obama said Monday when he spoke about health care reform at the Childrens National Medical Center in Washington.

“The reforms we seek would bring greater competition, choice, savings and inefficiencies to our health care system,” Obama said in remarks after a health care roundtable with physicians, nurses and health care providers. “And greater stability and security to America’s families and businesses.”

The White House inserted a [sic] in the official transcript. I’m not sure why. It may be the most honest thing Obama has said yet about ObamaCare.

Addendum: Normally I’d put a link to Chris Muir’s Day by Day site here, but today I want to do more than that. Chris has a fundraising drive to keep his excellent cartoon alive.  Be sure to drop a few dollars in his collection to keep one of the Rightosphere’s most talented warriors in the fight!

How about in the speech he’s going to give tonight he’s going to take credit for rescuing the economy?

“White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel told The New York Times Obama intends to use the news conference as a “six-month report card,” to talk about “how we rescued the economy from the worst recession” and the legislative agenda moving forward, including health care and energy legislation.”

http://www.upi.com/Top_News/2009/07/22/Obama-goes-prime-time-to-pitch-healthcare/UPI-38611248259706/

Or perhaps this will be an option for tomorrow’s OotD.

That article tells me the filthy liar is backing down since it isn’t going to happen on his time schedule. He is deflecting what was supposed to be a talk designed to ram through Obamacare into a “look at what a good job I’m doing” campaign ad.

What most disgusts me is that the rat bastard traitor keeps doing it in primetime. I don’t care that he pre-empts America’s Got Talent but if he is going to run these propaganda messages in primetime the GOP deserves the right to go on right after the filthy liar with a rebuttal message about how this administration is wrong.

Frankly, I don’t understand this whole notion that he is someone with uncanny public speaking abilities.

Yes, he made a huge error, announcing a press conf. and then having the bill delayed. A total wasted opportunity. There are 16 days until the August recess. In that time the one House Committee still has to do their bit with the legislation and then it has to go to floor votes and come up with some agreement of the House version of the bill. The Senate has to do its bit complete with floor votes. Then it has to go to conference.

It is still possible that the filthy liar will pull it out with enough thug tactics but 16 days isn’t all that long to come up with a bill that passes muster. Particularly since I’m hoping the switchboards will melt with public outrage.

I agree. My aunt told me she voted for him because McCain was “too old” and my cousin voted for him because McCain was a “warmonger”…

I tried to tell them but they wouldn’t listen…

Bard. I’m also waiting on word from Columbia.

Ann NY on July 22, 2009 at 8:59 AM

Awesome! Congratulations on being able to apply to those institutions. At the same time, Bard is sooooo liberal (but you know that).

I think the universities should be part of the Conservative Reshaping and Resurgence Plan.

I hope you’re excited for school!

I’m seeing that also. We have a group of hippies here in Chicago who for the last four years have set up their protest booth every Saturday on a busy street with the sole intent of disparaging Bush/Cheney. They would scream about war crimes, impeachment, etc.

This past weekend I walked by them and I was shocked. Their message was “Stop Obama – He’s ruining the country”. I wandered over to talk to them and got an earful on how we must stop the healthcare plan, cap and trade, etc. My favorite line was: He’s turning out to be worse than Bush”.

Maybe they are just anti-establishment people but if they are shouting out this message, I’ll take it.

That will be $250,000,000,000. Thanks.

Don’t forget to add inflation.

As someone pointed out to me – he doesn’t have a clue what he is reading, because he didn’t even realize his gaffe.

Yeah, so will I.

If I was a speech writer for him it would be a letter of resignation. :)

similar story — me and some old veterans I know set up shop every saturday next to some hippies who have been there every weekend bemoaning bush

but now i see signs like

“afghanistan is obama’s vietnam”
blarh blah blah
they don’t like the guy AT ALL

Here’s the dirty little secret on higher education; they want adults to diversify their campuses. Both Columbia and Bard have special programs for adults returning to college that are still hard to get into, but you are not competing with the kids out of high school for spots (even though in both schools you are attending the same classes). Yale has that program as well. Harvard is a continuing education night school with a different diploma. I needed a school with a great English/Writing department and a studio arts department as well. Bard fits that perfectly and they’ve gotten rid of some of their worst professors too!

McCain was one of the problems. The GOP felt McCain was next in line and backed the worst candidate since Dole. Crinkly old white men don’t do well against charismatic narcissists as we’ve been shown with Dole vs Clinton and McCain vs Obama (and probably Nixon vs Kennedy).

I’m happy for you.

I think you’ll enjoy yourself

I hope you don’t have too many moronic professors. Just speak up and call them out whenever they mouth off about unrelated political issues and Bush bashing.

blatantblue on July 22, 2009 at 9:17 AM

Is this one of those inefficiencies Barry is going to expand?

Big Nanny Democrats want to ration health care for everyone in America — except those who break our immigration laws. Last week, the House Ways and Means Committee defeated an amendment that would have prevented illegal aliens from using the so-called “public health insurance option.” Every Democrat on the panel voted against the measure.

Obama does appear to believe he’s the exception to Lincolns’ rule – that he can fool all the people all the time…..

No, he’s proving George Carlin’s:
You can fool some of the people some of the time
And jerk the rest off.
