Obama: Greedy doctors are coming after your tonsils or something
posted at 10:06 pm on July 22, 2009 by Allahpundit
Gee, I’m really sorry I decided to skip this for “Ghost Hunters.” Watching The One explain how the medical industry has designs on your body parts would have been much better in hindsight. To think: The day is coming when instead of forcing you to take unnecessary tests, doctors will force you not to take necessary ones because they no longer have the resources to process them. Take that, profit motive.
This is what happens when you take health advice from a guy with a lifelong smoking habit. Exit question: Any truth to the rumor that Obama’s going to impose a new surtax on fatties? “But let me be clear: The time has come to put away the fudge.”

dhunter on July 22, 2009 at 11:23 PM
No I don’t think so Bishop. This was calculated, semi-scripted, he had to think about it, recall the details.
Part of the strategy they use is to pit one group against another – rich verses poor, one race verses another, doctor verses patient…. the only authority that can save us all from the aggressor is the government. In this case the Doctor who abuses you… because you are a victim. It was intentional.
batterup on July 22, 2009 at 11:23 PM
Hey, if you got a doctor or dentist going through a divorce you’d worry about these things too. But I don’t see how Obama’s plan would change that. It wouldn’t, there’s really no way to prevent that short of government managed yearly salaries, at which point I’d be going to another country for medical care.
LevStrauss on July 22, 2009 at 11:27 PM
The insurance company screws you by makin money the doctor by removing your tonsils and doing unneeded tests and the Government under the Pinnochio President is going to make it all better by nationalizing both!
His dumbass followers must be eatin it up. Their all victims of The MaN and Pinnochio is gonna fix it!
He’s gonna start a riot, already, hopefully on Sept 12 march on D.C. to take our country back.

Didn’t Michelle run a hospital or get paid for it or something? Did they remove tonsils for no reason in Michelles hospital.
Maybe they did if medicaid paid and she got a cut! Sue em!
dhunter on July 22, 2009 at 11:37 PM
As someone who gets paid by insurance companies and Medicare, I can’t say I’ve ever done a procedure based solely on a fee schedule.
I CAN say that I’ve had to deny patient’s care or am unable provide what I feel the patient really needs based upon Medicare’s fee schedule and lack of coverage. If the patient can’t afford what Medicare won’t cover then they usually don’t get the care they need.
That happens 10x’s more often with Medicare than with any private insurance company.

jana on July 22, 2009 at 11:44 PM
Agreed. I think that physicians DO have an ethical code that nearly all abide by. Nearly all. And quite a higher percentage than politicians would abide by. I do know a surgeon who is an ex-friend who rather than doing 2 procedures at the same time would split it up into 2 separate procedures for double payment. It happens, and I don’t refer patients to him anymore.
Marcus on July 22, 2009 at 11:45 PM
I don’t know about tonsils, but I do know that she (and I do mean *she* personally) implemented a patient dumping plan to get rid of the poor folks that came to her hospital.
It’s been talked about for years here in the Chicago area.

The fun thing is going to be watching how fast the big media outlets try to flush this press conference down the memory hole. A few sound bites on Thursday morning’s shows and then bye, bye, if they have their way.
The only problem is, thanks to that last question that was supposed to be a softball, Obama is now entangled with Dr. Gates’ war on the Cambridge Police Department, which — given the story’s racial angle — means it’s going to stay in the news for days, especially if the usual suspects like Reverend Al make the trip up to Boston to join in on the fun (and possibly score a few $$$ off the City of Cambridge just to go away).

Obama thinks doctors pull tonsils just because they’re in the insurance policy rate scale?
Maybe he should stop basing his ideas on how doctors do their job on the way his wife ran her hospital.
Socratease on July 22, 2009 at 11:53 PM
Bambi was just pulling some random thoughts out of his ***, just like he did when riffing on how we can save all of this oil by inflating our tires.
Believe me, this was not calculated. To sell this plan, he need doctors on board. He doesn’t do himself any favors when he tells the AMA that their membership is full of crooks.
PackerBronco on July 22, 2009 at 11:56 PM
The NAACP should be picketing in the streets, this so-called healthbill is designed to enslave the poor and keep them dependent on government. With policies like this the black race will never evolve.
workingforpigs on July 22, 2009 at 11:59 PM
May have been covered earlier (didn’t read all the comments) but the “tonsils” comment was preceded by a totally uninformed comment about “evidence-based medicine.” Don’t have the transcript in front of me, but it was something about doctors making decisions based on the fee schedule and not by evidence-based practice.
Been around hospitals a while, and “evidence-based medicine” has been the buzzword phrase for several years. It’s already incorporated into practice, and becoming better integrated over time. It’s why medical professionals do research, write journal articles, read journal articles, and apply research findings to treatment options.
Evidence-based medicine ain’t gonna come from a government insurance program, it’s already here. Try to keep up, Mr. President.

Terrye,
Medicaid, Medicare…. either way you end up limiting their health care more so than a person on private insurance. Our clinic stopped accepting Medicaid because by the time we performed the service, did the billing and received the payment we were losing money.
We’re a small business also. We have to pay our employees. We’re worried that this plan will pass and end up like Medicare/aid and we’ll have to let go some of our employees or not hire the ones we need.

Does anyone know if the woman from Colorado who keeps writing him is Donna Smith?
Could it be Donna Smith, the Colorado woman from the movie SickO?
Could it be the same Donna Smith who was one of the “random” people at Obama’s infomerchial? The one with the uterine cancer?
I’d like to know, are we really going to change our health care system because of one nut case?
Who is this person, Donna Smith?
.
Donna Smith is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate.
legislative advocate for the California Nurses Association
Journalist for NEWSWEEK magazine.
Since 2007, she has co-chaired the Progressive Democrats of America’s national “Healthcare Not Warfare”.
Donna Smith is best known for her major role in Michael Moore’s 2007. “SiCKO”

Biggest problem with the One is he’s under the false illusion that insurance is high because of greed. The truth lies in all the regulations they have to follow, all the mandatory territories that they are isolated in thanks to his friends, the lobbyists, the John Edwards type lawyers suing the doctors and then finally the people that really don’t care about the costs because hey someone else is picking up the tab. The One truly believes that his plan takes care of all of this. I tell you friends, the man is plain ignorant is why I cannot bring myself to call him my president. W may have butchered the language but he wasn’t making a concerted effort to butcher the country.
larvcom on July 23, 2009 at 12:31 AM
Why *did* the AMA buy into this nonsense, anyway, and will they not spit him out of their mouth after his sick indictment of doctors as considering fees rather than patient needs?
As IBD pointed out today,http://www.ibdeditorials.com/IBDArticles.aspx?id=333066661999894, there will no longer be a market for health insurance. Period.

And for those of you who are having difficulty locating the Gates police report, here it is: http://www.thebostonchannel.com/download/2009/0720/20120754.pdf
Poor widdle Obammy couldn’t take half a minute to read it before calling the police “stupid.” Well, this is good, actually, because just think of the numbers of people who now know Obammy’s a creep who doesn’t think before he calls police stupid and doctors immoral and unethical.
How on earth did this disgusting man get elected? He is such an embarassment.
Also, what has he got against the word “an” before a noun or adjective beginning with a vowel?
tanarg on July 23, 2009 at 12:56 AM
Consider it marked, because I think you’re going to eat those words, or run away from them.
So, measured how? At similar points in their administrations? Oops, Obama’s already lost then, since Bush’s approval rating was higher 6 months in.
Maybe measured by all-time lows? After all, you said he would never be lower than Bush. So if at any point Obama’s approval ratings are lower than Bush’s worst, you lose?
ThereGoesTheNeighborhood on July 23, 2009 at 1:04 AM
I’m sure there are a few doctors who would do such a thing, but I think it’s extremely rare. When a doctor’s making good money at his specialty, he rarely feels the need to engage in fraud for a few extra bucks.
ThereGoesTheNeighborhood on July 23, 2009 at 1:06 AM
You think this is a fact, but we’ll never really know. You see, in spite of Gore saying ti over and over, we never really count every vote in any presidential election. Once it’s clear which candidate gets the electoral votes for a state or district, they stop counting. There were states that never bothered counting their absentee ballots, because the margin of victory was overwhelming enough that the absentee ballots couldn’t have changed the outcome. Since absentee ballots tend Republican, and since the margin of victory in the popular vote was so hair-thin close, it’s entirely possible that Bush actually won the popular vote.
We’ll never know, because they never counted all the popular votes. And they never counted all the popular votes, because the popular vote margin doesn’t matter.
Except, apparently, when someone wants to make a rhetorical moot point.
(Now why do I bother teaching logical thinking to a lefty troll?)
ThereGoesTheNeighborhood on July 23, 2009 at 1:17 AM
So,
Obama managed to bad-mouth doctors by implying that they are just yanking tonsils to get paid.
He bad-mouthed cops by basically saying that, even though he doesn’t know all the facts, the Cambridge police acted stupidly and then did a little race-baiting to boot.
This was supposed to be his big push for healthcare reform. Swing and a miss.
JohnInCA on July 23, 2009 at 1:17 AM
Actually, Michelle did more than create the patient dumping scheme. She got a raise from $121,00/year to something like $350,00 a year right after Dear Leader made Senator. But she was what we call around here a “rainmaker”. I’m sure it is only a coincidence that Dear Leader immediately began to steer hundreds of thousand of dollars in gubmint pork to the hospital; I think he tried to steer a couple of million but I don’t recall at the moment exactly how much he actually managed to deliver. It was way more than the hospital paid Michelle. In the meantime, Michelle steered a truckload of hospital money to a political supporter while saving the hospital millions with the scheme to dump poor patients on other hospitals.
Beauty, eh?
It’s the Chicago Way.

My question to President Obama is does he understand that medicine is an art as well as a science …one test does not find out what is wrong in every case…most Dr’s I have ever went to usually start with the simple tests first and if they don’t provide the answer get more creative. Is there waste in the system? yes does there need to be some form of health care reform? yes but if the government cannot manage medicare, The VA or health care on the indian reservations why would we trust them to run nationalized health care.
JKotthoff on July 23, 2009 at 4:03 AM
Obama (riffing on the tonsils): … so … uh .. the doctor takes the tonsils out and then uh … he uses tainted blood and the kid gets aids … and that could’ve all been avoided with national health insurance and to make it worse the doctors tried to mollify him by giving him ice cream … and … uh .. that stuff is fattening … and … uh …
Press: Mr. President?
Obama (looks up distracted as he tries to find his lost chain of thought): uh … yeah?
Press: That’s from an episode of “South Park” called “Cartman Gets Aids”
Obama: You sure?
Press: I’m not just sure. I’m HIV positive.
Obama (laughing): Oh yeah, I remember now. Yeah … that’s some funny shit … well … uh … I think we’re just about done here … yeaaaahhhh … I think that’s it …
PackerBronco on July 23, 2009 at 4:29 AM

Mr. Grump on July 23, 2009 at 8:11 AM
I know he thinks he hit a homer with the tonsils example – it is entirely possible that “entitlement care” hands out pills rather than do a “necessary” surgery but as for the real world – those who pay for their care, this will not play well.
Here in the metro-Boston area tonsillectomies are common but you have to have a chronically ill child before you can get one. It is torture for the child, the parents, the whole family – not to mention all the antibiotics that are used to keep infections at bay. (in 1974, I had a tonsillectomy after 3 tries at ear tubes, a case of scarlet fever and chronic strep. I’m lucky my brain still works although most Liberals would argue it does not.) Eventually, the kid gets a tonsillectomy and it’s like the illnesses never happened. Moms call it the “miracle surgery”.
Obama threatened to take away this procedure and this will not go over well. Make sure everyone sees this. It will sink him even further.
gopmom on July 23, 2009 at 8:12 AM
Gosh, my pediatrician refused to take my tonsils out even though it was pretty common to do so in the ’50s. I kept them until my first semester in college, when, at 19, I started catching every bug that was going around and ran a continuous low-grade fever. My tonsils were big and nasty by then.
Then, and only then, did he send me to an ENT-type surgeon to have them removed, in the hospital. I was mighty glad he did, because I was mighty tired of being sick.
That nice old doctor also made house calls to treat us kids well into the ’60s. I miss that a lot more than I miss my tonsils.
