I'm reminded of the following exchange from "Serenity":

The Operative: I believe in something greater than myself. A better world. A world without sin.

Mal: So me and mine gotta lay down and die so you can live in your better world?

The Operative: I'm not going to live there. There's no place for me there, any more than there is for you. Malcolm... I'm a monster. What I do is evil. I have no illusions about it, but it must be done.

(Of course, the one incongruity in the comparison is the notion of O actually believing in something greater than himself. If you can get past that, I think it's a rather eerie match.)

They are the Obama-fellating, state-run media for a reason. Don't expect any serious questions from any but a token few...maybe one.

[...] Ed Morrissey, who is much more refined that me, sums it up nicely as well: Remember when Obama scoffed at the notion that he was an elitist during the campaign? I wrote at the time that Obama was deliberately confusing “elites” and “elitism”, and that having a sitting US Senator attempting to deny his elite status was a little odd anyway. This is a perfect display of elitism — someone telling people that they don’t know how to calculate their own self-interest and declaring that a few people in Washington can figure that out for them better than they can themselves. It’s patronizing, condescending, and in fact is the very kind of attitude that created the impulse for our separation from the paternalistic monarchy that refused to allow for the notion that the colonies should have a say in their own governance. You begin to get the idea that, underneath all his efforts to talk to people like adults, he thinks there are really just two camps: Courageous progressives, e.g. himself and people who agree with him, and backward bumpkins who huddle around failure because they’re too afraid to be more like…him.
I still don't know how he can go around talking about his plan without every single person he meets demanding to know why he wants to foist Obamacare on them when he's already admitted he wouldn't use it himself.

Oh, and isn't Congress exempting themselves from it to? They get to keep their elite medical care while pushing this monstrosity onto the rest of America.

Good job your watchdog press is on the ball, eh?

The first time I heard Rush do this, I must have missed the explanation because I thought there was something wrong with my radio - I unplugged it, plugged it in again, fiddled with the antenna. Then I got it, and I laughed until I couldn't stand up anymore.

addendum to above...

This happens to be the exact opposite of the attitude of most of our Founding Fathers, who saw self-reliance and religion as primary and government as a necessary evil to help protect a man's right to practice them.

His first comment still blows my mind.

It comes from the perspective that government is the de facto source of happiness, contentment and purpose for all of humanity and that only when government fails to take care of people do they "cling to" self-reliance and religion.

Pg 354 Sec 1177 - Govt will RESTRICT enrollment of Special needs ppl! WTF. My sis has down syndrome!!

I have two kids who were born with diaphragmatic hernias. Immediately after birth, they needed surgery to move the internal organs from their chest cavities to their abdomens where they belong. We were told that our daughter had a 80% chance of living through surgery and a 20% chance of living a week after that.

18 years later she was the salutatorian of her high school and is going to engineering school in the fall. The genetic counselors told us there is more chance of being struck by lightning than having another child with the same thing. 4 years later when her brother "Sparkey" was born we were told he had a 20% chance of living through surgery and 0% chance to live a week after that. He just graduated 8th grade and plans to be an engineer too.

What do you suppose the chances are either one of them would have been allowed to have those surgeries under Obamacare?
Anyone? Bueller?

This bill is clearly about a whole lot of issues that have nothing to do with Health care. Health care is just the vehicle. Some of these provisions are frightening.
