Harry Alford nukes Boxer again: “She loves black folks in their place”

posted at 5:14 pm on July 21, 2009 by Allahpundit

Not as spectacular as his confrontation with her during his Senate testimony but the sheer contempt he displays is delicious as only raw red meat can be. Even so, it’s frustrating to find him and Bill O not quite putting their finger on what Boxer was trying to do. By challenging him with the environmental viewpoint of a black liberal, she was trying to call his racial authenticity into question. Per leftist identity politics, as a minority, he’s presumptively entitled to Absolute Moral Authority unless and until a fellow minority can impeach his progressive credibility. Having been duly impeached, he can then be subjected to blackface photoshops or whatever nasty racist invective is in vogue on the left these days for those who don’t toe the line. Anyway, if you’re pressed for time, the last 90 seconds are pure gold.

Harry Alford nukes Boxer again: “She loves black folks in their place”

Indeed. She likes black people as long as they toe the party line. Suddenly they’re ripe for attacking and degrading when they speak their own mind or become conservatives.

I’ve been frustrated by this guy’s seeming inability to articulate precisely what Boxer was doing, though this comes closer than I’ve seen. He’s so angry — and I totally get why — that he sometimes loses focus in explaining why he’s so angry in such a way that your typical racist liberal will understand. Boxer was scolding him for going off the “black guy” reservation. She was basically calling him an inauthentic black guy for opposing her cap and trade legislation, cuz all the other cool black guys are in favor of it. She was trying to marginalize him as being less of a black guy than all the other black guys because he has a different point of view. She was telling him to go back to black guy school, cuz he missed the lesson on being a liberal. Barbara Boxer is a straight-up racist. She thinks blacks all look alike, and should think alike — and if they don’t they should damn well be called out on it by their white betters in the liberal community. She called him “boy” with a snotty California democrat twist — and anyone who watches that exchange knows it.

Hey! Stop this. Right Now!

Sen. Boxer knows the plight of coloreds in this country….she has seen “Gone With The Wind” many times…why, she’s practically an expert on being black.

BobMbx on July 21, 2009 at 5:28 PM

Quit nitpicking, Allah. I saw this last night, and I thought it was hilarious. I lost bladder control when O’Reilly asked him whether he believes Boxer loves black people, and Alford, dripping with contempt for Boxer, responded, “Yeah, right.”

Alford then went on to mention Boxer’s involvement in the Clarence Thomas confirmation hearings, Condoleeza Rice’s confirmation hearings, and accusations against Ken Blackwell. Alford destroyed her. Alford isn’t a black American; he’s an American, and he just happens to be black.

BuckeyeSam on July 21, 2009 at 5:28 PM

Even so, it’s frustrating to find him and Bill O not quite putting their finger on what Boxer was trying to do. By challenging him with the environmental viewpoint of a black liberal, she was trying to call his racial authenticity into question.

Spot on. I think the whole strategy behind her quoting African American individuals was to either make him feel “guilty” for not supporting something she claims a lot of OTHER AA’s support or, as you said, to try and call his racial authenticity into question so that his viewpoint is not taken seriously (specifically in the black community).

In any event, his “cap-and-trade hustle” line was funny.

LiquidH2O on July 21, 2009 at 5:28 PM

Forget Joe the Plumber (please!). Alford needs to become one of the new faces of conservatism. The way he brought up Thomas, Blackwell, and Hill was BEEE-U-TIFUL.

guntotinglibertarian on July 21, 2009 at 5:35 PM

I think O’Reilly did a good job last night – even commented to the wife how he didn’t make the accusations – but let Alford tell the tale and his feelings were pretty evident.

Had O’Reilly trumped up the accusation himself – it wouldn’t have “cred”, being O’Reilly is a white guy.

I am pretty confident Alford made his point, several times during the give and take, but sometimes the questioner just needs to ask questions and let the answerer answer.

I have many conservative black friends who feel they have no platform at all or voice to the masses – perhaps this is the defining moment.

She was trying to marginalize him as being less of a black guy than all the other black guys because he has a different point of view.

I don’t think you’re correct. He came to that hearing as a professional who happened to be black and he thought he would be questioned based on his credentials. For Boxer to quote some other black guys in response was to say to him: “You’re a black guy who just happens to be a professional. But the most important thing is that you’re a black guy. Now here’s some other black guys who disagree with you ..” and then she quotes the NAACP, who have no special qualifications to cite on this issue, as somehow balancing his viewpoint.

That’s what was condescending. It wasn’t that he wasn’t toeing the party line (though he wasn’t) it was that he was trying to make a point w/out reference to his blackness.

In the Boxer world, indeed the entire world of the statists, there are basically two types of Americans of African descent: those allowed in the house (“House N’s” — Sharpton, Jackson, NAACP leaders, etc.) and those who are not (“Field N’s” — Clarence Thomas, Condi, Thomas Sowell, etc.). And a few allowed on the porch, like Colin Powell.

Thanks, Mr. Alford, for coming out of the field and breaking down their damn door, and standing up for all whom they would relegate to the cotton and the corn.

TXUS on July 21, 2009 at 6:06 PM

Doesn’t Alford know what happens to blacks who disagree with dimocrats? I think he is a leader regardless of race and for him to be undermined by the MSM media because of independent thinking shows how open the left is to debate. If Obama was one tenth the person Alford is, we would be in so much better shape. Another black leader breaking the chains of slavery that the dims have kept secure under the guise of looking out for their “best interests”.

Go Alford go! Another biatch slapping!

Allah – the point I felt was missed is that the discussion Alford presented was the impact of the Bill on Black business and employment. His position gives him this unique perspective.

Using the NAACP in this discussion is inappropriate.

The best part of this entire incident is how Boxer just kept digging a deeper hole rather than apologize. I am sure she has a great relationship with be African American Maid and feels she is beyond reproach.

You may also have noticed that Alford called her Ma’am several times at the hearing and Boxer seemed unruffled.

Looks like Alford will be the new Joe the Plumber! /sarc

Wrong. She was just pointing out that the head of the Black American Chamber of Commerce doesnt speak for all black businessmen.

That’s just it. It doesn’t matter who proposes to speak for some or all black businessmen. Mr. Alford was speaking for his organization concerning Cap and Trade. Why were other specifically black organizations brought into the argument? Why couldn’t Boxer defend her own positions instead of resorting to what some other organizations believe about Cap and Trade?

jimmy2shoes on July 21, 2009 at 6:53 PM

O’Reilly’s a tool, and all too frequently fails to see a situation as it really is. Anytime a black conservative is trashed by the left you can bet your bottom dollar it’s a racial thing–not an ideological difference of opinion. Plain and simple.
