Rasmussen: Obama 45, Romney 45; Obama 48, Palin 42
posted at 2:11 pm on July 20, 2009 by Allahpundit
This says more about the downturn in The One’s approval ratings than it does about Mitt or Sarahcuda, but you know the Hot Air policy: You can never have too many 2012 polls.
Just 21% of voters nationwide say Palin should run as an independent if she loses the Republican presidential nomination in 2012. Sixty-three percent (63%) say the 2008 GOP vice presidential nominee should not run as an independent. Sixteen percent (16%) are not sure.
If Romney secured the GOP nomination and Palin chose to run as an independent candidate, Obama would win the resulting three-way race with 44% of the vote. Romney is the choice of 33% of the voters under that scenario, with Palin a distant third with 16% support. Three percent (3%) like some other candidate, and four percent (4%) are undecided…
When Romney is the Republican nominee, he beats Obama among unaffiliated voters 48% to 41%. But when Palin is the GOP candidate, unaffiliated voters prefer Obama by a 47% to 41% margin…
In a three-way race, Palin hurts Romney by drawing 28% Republican support. Romney captures 52% of the GOP vote in that scenario.
Lest anyone doubt how overwhelming Palin’s support is among the HA readership, compare those boldfaced numbers to the results of our own poll last Monday. We love you guys, but in case it wasn’t clear from last year’s primaries, a mirror image of Republican voters you ain’t.
Question: Why didn’t Rasmussen poll Obama vs. Huckabee? Public Policy Polling has its own set of 2012 hypothetical match-ups out today and Huck fares best among the big three, trailing The One by six points — the fourth time in as many PPP polls that he’s been Obama’s toughest challenge. Palin trails by eight and Romney by nine (despite doing relatively well with black voters). The most interesting detail comes from another PPP poll taken last week, though: Contrary to expectations, Palin is viewed favorably by 86 percent of Republican voters in the northeast, fully 10 points higher than she is in the south. I’m not sure what explains that — maybe the Republican base in New England has now shrunk to a Hot-Air-ish molten red core so that, paradoxically, “true conservatives” fare better up there than RINOs (see, e.g., Toomey and Specter in Pennsylvania) — but needless to say, it could mean trouble for Romney. If Palin does run, it’s easy to imagine her leveraging evangelicals to squeak through in Iowa; an upset in New Hampshire immediately after that would make her the prohibitive favorite. Expect Team Mitt to work quietly behind the scenes between now and then to make sure as many GOP primaries as possible are open ones.

I don’t know where all this Romney hatred comes from. Didn’t we all want him instead of McCain as the nominee in 2008? What has he done since then to turn so many against him? The health care thing is a load of crap since that was instituted well before last year.
Do I want Palin as our nominee in 2012? Right now, I’d say yes. I think she’d fare better than Romney in the general election, regardless of what the so-called experts in the media insist.
But Romney’s no slouch. He’s a skilled communicator. He’s got a history of turning around struggling companies which will no doubt be of paramount importance come 2012 the way Obama’s going. And he’s from the northeast which is an area where the GOP desperately needs to do better.
If these are our top 2 choices in 3 years, what the hell are we getting all worked up about?! I’d say we’re in much better shape than the media would like us to believe.

Two possibilities:
One the left-leaning media knows that the reactionary GOP base will coalesce around Palin if attacked. Leading to self-marginalization and national derision.
Or…
Because she’s a dipshit.

Okay, what else is new…but if you think Romney can take Palin on on one, sorry, Romney needs to get a charisma transplant.

changer1701 on July 20, 2009 at 2:57 PM
Why is funding one’s own campaign such a bad thing? Isn’t that a positive? The less money he takes from special interests, the fewer favors he owes once he’s elected.
Doughboy on July 20, 2009 at 2:57 PM
I have my reservations about both but either would be infinitely better than the “0″. I voted against Obama when I pulled the lever for McCain this election cycle.
You should get your money back from the psychic school you attended. You also should sue which ever schools you attended for failure to teach you any logic. The fact that I think Romney is a Democrat in Conservative Clothing does not logically lead to me being a RP supporter. So if you want to play like a KOS baby go post their.
chemman on July 20, 2009 at 2:57 PM
You’re crazy around here, I can tell that much.
Palin seems to make certain number of you (you’re one, DaveS is another, there’s some on other threads) sound incredibly insane and certainly barbaric with and about nearly everyone else.
It encourages a bad impression ABOUT PALIN. Your bad behavior does nothing to encourage support for Palin nor does it compliment her (or you). It just turns people off.
So what you accomplish with your crude behaviors is, you discourage a consensus and minimize if not attempt to shred the accomplishments of other candidates who are credible.
I like Romney, always have but I’m not insane about him. I’ve also long held out that I like Palin and will vote for her should she be the nominee.
The one thing that’ll lose my vote for any candidate is supporters shredding everyone else just like you try to do. Or you may not be trying, it just may be you’re a nincompoop creep who doesn’t understand how to be civil with others. Doesn’t matter, same result: you minimize the credibility of Palin.
Paulers did exactly the same thing and look what happened.
So your behavior as with others makes me start to wonder about Palin. Is that your objective? You WANT to ruin her popularity? Keep on being a creep with others and you’ll accomplish it…

After 4 years of Obama the world is going to be in a bigger mess than even we will. It’s a dangerous world made even more dangerous by Obama.
We’re going to need a conservative candidate with foreign policy credentials. Somebody who is not afraid to take a stand.

PALIN ISN’T RUNNING. NOBODY IS GOING TO ELECT A PRESIDENT WHO RESIGNED THEIR ONLY MAJOR POLITICAL OFFICE.
First these are two separate thoughts.
To the first Palin isn’t running. You must have been riding in your wagon too fast to cause your head to spin and become delusional. Palin is only 6 points behind the Messiah after not being involved in national politics for the last 7 and 1/2 months except for a 2 week excursion to NY State in June. We are still 39 and 1/2 months away from the Nov 2012 vote and Sarah will be unleashed after July 26th. Need I remind you Obama’s poll numbers are sinking fast.
To your 2nd point Sarah has to first gain the nomination from her party before even considering going head to head against the Messiah. Note my previous post and how much of a lead Sarah has over Mitt in Republican and conservative favorables and how that will impact the 2012 GOP primary season. And as to any future matchup between Obama and Palin in 2012-’that’s why they play the game’.

Another idiotic rididiculous nonsense bit from another Palin fanatic, I suppose.
I don’t visit psychics or anything of the sort as to the Occult. These accusations, I dunno, is there some sort of disease you people have who are attached to Palin’s ankles biting at everyone else who walks by?
You REMIND me of Paul people. Your BEHAVIOR is identical as a “mass hysteria” movement as the Paul people displayed on the internet, to and about everyone else. That’s my point about asking people if they were Paul supporters, because a number of the Palin supporters have taken on the same behaviors, same personality as a group and it turns other people off.
I now retract my kind comments about Sarah Palin. I still like HER, I just can’t stand all this brouhaha bombast from this weird group of people who are so intolerant of nearly everyone else, and particularly about Romney and Romney supporters.
I’ve NEVER read much to anything from Romney supporters, by the way, negating Palin. But all the Palin-supporter raging about Romney and sniping and griping and gossiping is just too much, you all illustrate so much that many the rest of us don’t find appealing as to politics.
I LIKE that Romney funded his own campaign, by the way, to address that other issue someone else raised, indicates serious commitment. I’m happy for the man that he could and did afford to do so.
Palin’s an interesting person, has real crowd appeal, I support some of her politics, more of them I support than I don’t.
BUT the same sort of negativity was gushed about by the McCain campaign last year and now it’s infected “the Palin people” from my experience here.
Remaining confident in her is something I’m going to do as a Conservative because you “supporters” so-called sure as heck don’t sell her as a supportable person. When are you going to get around to talking about HER and not running others down, by the way? Anything to say that doesn’t call other people names and such?
Lourdes on July 20, 2009 at 3:09 PM
I agree with the posters that say we need to concentrate on cleaning house/senate in 2010 and I believe that Palin is going to lead the fight. In the process her ratings will grow among all but the most liberal.

I voted for Romney in the 2008 primary. Why? Because when my state got to vote, my choices were limited to:
1. Romney – RINO
2 McCain – Even worse RINO
3. Huckabee – Even worse RINO/Despicable
4. Paul – Lunatic
Why would I want to have the same choice in 2012? Just because we chose Romney as a default because all other options were unthinkable, doesn’t mean we should settle for this same crap again.
That’s why I support Palin, but I would also be open for another strong conservative. Just anybody but the Huckabee/Romney/McCain/Paul crap quartet.

There’s only one option in 2012 that is any good for a Republican resurgence. That option is Obama. So join me in totally writing off the presidential election of 2012, and either abstain from voting, vote third party, or just do it – pull the lever for Obama.
Before the flames hear me out. Our GOP choices will either be between a charisma-less Ken doll or a clueless Barbie doll. The party is totally fractured with no coherent view of fiscal, domestic or foreign policy. Only the monstrous results of Obama’s policies can reform the GOP. We should focus on electing quality members of congress, while looking toward 2016.

No, I did not. That’s entirely out of that fevered Palin infected head of YOURS. It’s never been my position, nor anything I’ve ever said, that degree (as you now “perceive”) level of threat or danger.
Can’t you even see your own behaviors here? You and others here are extremely THREATENED when others raise questions or have some support for Romney. You are EXTREMELY THREATENED by such, I repeat. So you attack others, call names, it’s entirely irrational behavior.
I saw exactly the same behavior by the Ron Paul people, by the Obama people, and by the McCain people last year.
I think I speak for many Americans when I say we’re finished with the personality types and really want to hire a smart, talented, capable person for the Presidency instead of a “popular head” who drives crowds into frenzies.

The problem with Jindal is that while he’s very smart and folksy, his speech-making skills suck. That may be the problem in a head-to-head between him and Obama, especially in the debates.
Anyway, Jindal would have more experience than Romney and Palin and really Obama (on the national level anyway).

That wasn’t very nice. Not trying to get in the middle of a mud fight, but geeze oh petes, people. Let’s not eat our own. It will only give the lefties a bunch of boners.
