Obama: The Mayo Clinic is a beacon on health care; Mayo Clinic: ObamaCare stinks
posted at 5:15 pm on July 20, 2009 by Allahpundit
Even dumber than the time he claimed Caterpillar had promised to re-hire workers if the stimulus passed, only to have the CEO tell reporters about five minutes later that the stimulus wouldn’t work fast enough to let them re-hire workers.
And the Mayo shall lead us:
Although there are some positive provisions in the current House Tri-Committee bill – including insurance for all and payment reform demonstration projects – the proposed legislation misses the opportunity to help create higher-quality, more affordable health care for patients. In fact, it will do the opposite.
In general, the proposals under discussion are not patient focused or results oriented. Lawmakers have failed to use a fundamental lever – a change in Medicare payment policy – to help drive necessary improvements in American health care. Unless legislators create payment systems that pay for good patient results at reasonable costs, the promise of transformation in American health care will wither. The real losers will be the citizens of the United States.
See MKH’s post at the Standard for a few of The One’s greatest Mayo-praising hits. Presumably the problems with the House bill could be solved via negotiations if the Democrats were interested first and foremost in producing a good bill. Which, of course, they’re not. Exit question: Is the sturm und drang starting to affect Obama’s concentration? Behold your Freudian slip/Kinsleyan gaffe of the day.

Bring on the inefficiencies. And, um, the incompetencies, too. Let’s get some more of those. Oh, and could you throw in something to totally undermine quality? That would be kind of a sweet trifecta.

That clip is misleading. If you look at the full video from that incident, Obama shakes hands with the people at the far end of the room, by the flags, as the Russian President introduces them. Then they work down the line hallway / line of people, and the people here are those that came with Obama who he is introducing to the Russian President. He just has an oddball way of motioning to people with his hand–similar to the incident in Saudi Arabia where he motioned to Axelrod, looking like he was trying to shake his hand, and Axelrod ignored him.

from william krystal today…the essential truth of obamacare:
For in reality the government isn’t going simply to reward “good” and penalize “bad” admissions. It’s going to prevent insurance companies from paying for “unnecessary” admissions and procedures, if those companies want to participate in the government system. In other words, government bureaucrats are going to deem entire categories of treatment inefficient for all or certain categories of patients, and put those treatments out of bounds for doctors and hospitals.

Note the part: To qualify, for the scholarship, a student must claim foreign citizenship. This document would seem to provide the smoking gun that many of Obama’s detractors have been seeking.
Along with the evidence that he was first born in Kenya and there is no record of him ever applying for US citizenship, this is looking pretty grim.

If this monster is passed – how long will it take congress to find a way to loot the program and leave their infamous calling cards? Social Security started out voluntary, then mandatory. It also was held in a trust fund, now it’s a holding account for wish lists and looted on a regular basis. If the feds payed back to SS what is owed, it would be funded until the second coming. This proposed revamp of America’s healthcare is more like a ponzi scheme and SS is it’s poster child.
‘Bambi has said he’d absolutely do away with the Medicare Advantage Programs. This could be the very item that would allow participants the access to not only medical, but dental, some vision, and physical fitness. I went through hoops a couple of years ago to find a plan for my MIL. Most of them pay for a gym membership (you must show up a couple of times a month), $300 a year for dental maintenance, and an eye exam with a new set of glasses every couple of years, plus pays for additional monies to physicians/hospitals for medical procedures. Why they couldn’t offer this as a supplement to Medicaid is beyond me. I’m certainly no expert on this, but the revamp they’re offering is going to destroy our medical community as we know it.

It’s too much to hope for, but it’d be great if Wednesday’s press conference turns into a free-for-all. Obama is horrible under pressure. Whenever he gets put on the spot, he reminds me of Pfc. Lowden Downey in A Few Good Men when he gets caught in a lie: “Well, you see, there was this blow out. Hal? Hal?” Except in Obama’s case all he has is his teleprompter, but no Axelrod and no Emanuel. Obama won’t even have Lance Cpl. Harold Dawson to snap him out of his stupor.
Oh well, on Wednesday, I’m expecting sob stories, lob pitches, and cotton candy for all, but I can dream.
