What was the Obamateurism of the week?

posted at 10:37 am on July 19, 2009 by Ed Morrissey

It’s time for our weekly look back at the foibles of our President, but don’t take that literally, or you might wind up tripping over the threshold.   Really, we consider this a salute of sorts each week, even if it seems kind of a snub.  Let me be clear about this — no one’s talking about taking away your choice of Obamateurism any time soon.  Unlike Barack Obama, I won’t even tell you which one will win.

Previous “winners”:

  • Obama jokes about Alaska sale with Russians
  • Obama uses union and DNC plants at health-care town hall
  • Obama plants a question on Iran with HuffPo
  • Change in Iran coming because “Obviously, after the speech I made in Cairo…”
  • Flashing his soles to the camera while talking to Netanyahu
  • “If you actually took the number of Muslim Americans, we’d be one of the largest Muslim countries in the world.”
  • “We can no longer afford to spend as if deficits do not matter and waste is not our problem.”
  • Siccing Tim Geithner and Charlie Rangel on tax cheats
  • Phony Churchill quote on torture throws Grandpa under the bus
  • Torture probe flip-flop
  • Obama covers up IHS while quoting Jesus
  • Austrian is a language?
  • Obama bows to the Saudi king
  • 1908 Model T got better gas mileage than today’s SUVs

Addendum: Normally I’d put a link to Chris Muir’s Day by Day site here, but today I want to do more than that. Chris has a fundraising drive to keep his excellent cartoon alive.  Be sure to drop a few dollars in his collection to keep one of the Rightosphere’s most talented warriors in the fight!

Forgetting his latest caveat on keeping your health insurance.

“Forgetting?” As in unintentional? Like he really intended to keep any campaign promise? Surely you jest.

As Geraghty reminds us, “All of Barack Obama’s statements come with expiration dates. All of them.”

When you don’t tell the truth every time you end up with a corrupt, inept, controlling, liberty hating, POS for a President who makes these mistakes every day. Somtimes more than one a day. These are the mistakes that are caught on film. There have to be more that we don’t even know about and will be costly to us as a nation in the future.

BetseyRoss on July 19, 2009 at 10:54 AM

Cindy Munford on July 19, 2009 at 10:57 AM

I wonder if Ed intends to publish a book on Obama’s goofs and gaffes during his term?

I bet it will be a bestseller!

The only “worry” is that the compilation may run to thousands of pages — unless Obama gets impeached before his term is up.

(Am I supposed to type sarcasm off?)

Forgetting his latest caveat on keeping your health insurance

Of course, he is demonstrating a well known trait among your typical garden variety Chicago Democratic Machine politician-types, namely the convenience of forgetting the things you may have previously promised.

Another trait that he is also very good at is talking out of both sides of his mouth and lying through his teeth at the same time; another well-known trait among Chicago-bred politicians.

Ed, geez…

Tripping over the transom would mean THE ONE flew over the entire door frame somehow. A transom is the little (usually) window thingy above the door.

He tripped over the threshold.

William Amos on July 19, 2009 at 11:30 AM

Ed, Allah, I’ve got some bad news for you two: The “Obamateurisms” and “Quotes of the Day” are really, really lame. Sure, Obama does stupid things virtually every day, but reporting them the way you do makes you look childish. Some days, the “Obamateurisms” aren’t even worth mentioning. And Allah, if you’re going to quote someone, don’t you think it would be a good idea to give attribution, so your readers don’t have to wonder who said it, or spend their time searching for who said it? Personally, I’m not going to waste my time doing so, so your quotes have virtually zero value to me.

glockman on July 19, 2009 at 11:37 AM

Oh, the dreaded weekly vote. I discovered that I’m spending way too much time thinking about this. Many of the proffered Obamateurisms may seem like the mistakes of a buffoon but I think it is much more insidious. Of course he never meant we would still be able to keep our existing health care – this was a campaign promise, meaning “meaningless”, not a mistake. We would be the amateurs if we didn’t catch it. Everyone trips at some point, even the “athletically gifted”. Regarding physical ability, I think a more fitting choice might have been the lob that didn’t make it over the plate! Psyche is a good option but not as startling as the saluting the wrong flag. This is number 2 for me as it illustrates his consistent undying loyalty to no nation whatsoever, just to theories.

So I went with “Angie, baby, it’s in the bag.” This perfectly exhibits his “I want it therefore it will happen” narcissism created by the sycophants that have surrounded him. He is seriously mentally ill, so ill our allies (?) are seeing it. And he is genuinely completely unaware of it – only an amateur would reveal such telling and disturbing information about themselves.

Red State State of Mind on July 19, 2009 at 12:53 PM

Hey Ed, how about this: When yet another challenge to Obama’s legitamacy went to court (this time by a soldier who volunteered to go into combat and was days from deployment to Afganistan) Obama once again ducked for cover.
The U.S. Army REVOKED this Major’s deployment TO REMOVE HIS STANDING. Since when does the U.S. Army BACK DOWN TO A SOLDIER WHO REFUSES AN ORDER?? (“Ok, nevermind, we don’t really need you in the war anyway?”) THIS THUG Commander-In-Thief had the army back off rather than let this challenge to uncover his documentS proceed? WTF??
.
Major Stephan Frederick Cook, a U.S. Army reserve soldier (assigned to an active component unit consisting of active duty soldiers instead of a reserve unit) & NOW 2 MORE JOINED THE SUIT: that retired Maj. Gen. Carol Dean Childers and active U.S. Air Force reservist Lt. Col. David Earl Graeff “because it is a matter of unparalleled public interest and importance and because it is clearly a matter arising from issues of a recurring nature that will escape review unless the Court exercises its discretionary jurisdiction.”.
.
To the 2 HOTAIR posters who said the other day:

He has very little legal ground to stand upon, if any.
This fella hasn’t won a thing. The other shoe will drop–mark my words.

ted c on July 15, 2009 at 1:12 PM.

Exactly. Let’s remember the part about protecting and defending the Constitution from all enemies foreign and domestic. Even with a valid birth certificate, I would consider the filthy liar in the White House a domestic enemy. That Major can’t refuse to deploy on the basis that the POTUS isn’t a valid leader without wondering why he didn’t do something to defend the US from an illegitimate leader.

highhopes on July 15, 2009 at 1:17 PM ,

“Wait for the other shoe to drop on this soldier.”, where’s the other shoe? The Army would just “doubledown” and sweat this soldier for disobeying a direct order… BUT NOOOOO- instead they just surrendered like “Fwance”!
.
But Maj. Cook was then PROMPTLY FIRED his PRIVATE SECTOR JOB (Simtech Inc, which contracts with the DoD) The CEO, Grice called him 4 times and told him things there were “crazy and nutty” over it and not to hold out much hope about getting a job elsewhere since his SECURITY CLEARANCE would likely be pulled also. (No Whistleblower status either under Komrade Obama)
.
Shouldn’t you include ANY of this on HotAir? Like I KEEP SAYING: please give this its own thread with a clear & searchable title (& not a disappearing headline).
.
My last post took 2 hours and 10 minutes of MODERATION before it appeared. I hope this one makes it in a more timely fashion.

LiquidH2O on July 19, 2009 at 2:38 PM

For the national anthem its either stand at P.O.A. (position of attention), saluting (if you are in uniform), or hand over heart. I haven’t seen “stand there however you feel like” anywhere in any sort of protocol. He then remembered what he was supposed to do for the U.S. national anthem but did it instead with the Ghana national anthem. In THAT case, it’s simply “stand respectfully”. I think this is what irritates me the most.

Rightwingguy on July 19, 2009 at 2:38 PM

I don’t care a wit about the birth cerificate, per se. As I’ve said before, even if he was born in the White House Rose Garden, he is not Constitutionally eligible.
.
I fully expect he will produce a long form b/c & announce “CASE CLOSED” & all the idiots will nod & say “we told you so!” IT IS NOT ABOUT THE BIRTH CERTIFICATE. So for the love of god, STOP FOCUSING ON IT.
.
***Why do you supposeObama’s State Department Manual Ed. 7 FAM 1131.6-2 Eligibility for Presidency(TL:CON-68; 04-01-1998)

“It has never been determined definitively by a court whether a person who acquired U.S. citizenship by birth abroad to U.S. citizens is a natural born citizen within the meaning of Article II of the Constitution and, therefore, eligible for the Presidency

and Senate Res. 511 CO-SPONSORED BY OBAMA require two (2) US citizen parents to attain natural born citizen status?
.
As Leo Donofrio says on his website “Natural Born Citizen”
“What is so important and relevant to natural born citizen status that both parents must be citizens if the child is born abroad? How would Obama, who co-sponsored Senate Resolution 511, answer this question? This is the question you need to now ask your Senators who agreed unanimously to Senate Resolution 511. Get a quote on the record answering this question.
.
I’m trying to imagine their answers in light of the Obama dual nationality issue and the arguments which claim he is not eligible according to the framer’s intent and Vattel’s definition of natural born citizen. They would have no other reason to argue both parents be citizens other than the safety of the nation and the framers intent.
.
Ask them specifically how they have determined their level of concern requiring two US citizen parents. It will not be easy for them to craft a response which doesn’t also acknowledge the very same concerns for person’s born on US soil to a parent who was never a US citizen.”
