Quote of the day

posted at 9:30 pm on July 19, 2009 by Allahpundit

“As for soon-to-be departing Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, Paul dismisses her supporters as ‘more establishment, conventional Country-Club type of Republicans.’

‘I wonder whether she’s energizing the 15-20 year olds,’ Paul muses. ‘That would be a question I would have. Because she doesn’t talk about the Federal Reserve and some of these issues. She doesn’t talk too much about personal liberties, civil liberties, getting rid of drug laws, attacking the war on drugs, punishing people who torture.’

Worse still, he adds, Palinites are partisans: ‘If Obama was the only one who was guilty, they would be on his case all the time, but there is a lot of partisanship and I am probably less partisan and therefore she is going to appeal to partisan Republicans better.’”

What a joke… Palin is part of the Country Club GOP? That is laughable. I think ol Ron is becoming a bit senile these days…

davek70 on July 19, 2009 at 9:37 PM

Sure Ron. The country club types love people who shop at Wal Mart and say “You betcha”. Those down to earth, grounded, Ron Paul supporting Republicans are the ones who think that Bush is this Machiavellian evil genius who is slick enough to have planned and executed 9/11, and yet simultaneously a bumbling buffoon who can’t pull of planting WMD in Iraq to justify his entire premise for going to war.

By the way, does anyone else think it’s ironic that a guy who can magically see conspiracies swirling around 91/1 couldn’t tell that Borat was about to drop his drawers in that hotel room?

From Gateway Pundit:

Country-Clubber Ron Paul Says Moose Hunter Sarah Palin Is Country-Club Republican

Libertarian Republican reports there is no evidence of Palin ever being a member of a country club.

However, Ron Paul and his wife Carol are lifetime members of the Lake Jackson Country Club– “The Riverside Country Club of Lake Jackson.” It is located on Highway 332 in between Lake Jackson and Brazoria.

Actually Ron may be right. If Palin is the one that will be headlining Reagan dinners and the various versions that they have throughout the states she most definitely has the “country club Republican” base, the ones that have the dinners, the ones that keep voting for the same losers and care about the social activity more than the issues, thus the candidates.

LevStrauss on July 19, 2009 at 9:48 PM

Psh yeah. It’s not as if Palin was elevated to the national stage by conservative elites.

Every major politician is supported by the elites. Dem or Rep. I bet even a Ron Paul (although his candidacy went nowhere) had some rich and elite people supporting him. What is your point?

terryannonline on July 19, 2009 at 9:48 PM

Ron Paul = candidate with the most “excitable” internet base, stayed in for months, and, the end result was………….
………………….he won about a dozen counties.

1 in iowa, 1 in maine, a few in minnesota, and he won some of the quasi-rigged caucus counties out west where the voters were basically libertarians and anti-establishment.

Huckabee, by comparison, had zero money, but won several STATES (8 to be exact).

To the former Paulbots who have come to hotair…

…tell the “Doctor” to win a SINGLE COUNTY in his HOME STATE OF TEXAS before telling the republican party how to act.

Here’s an article on Huffington Post that you can actually read from start to finish: a Democratic governor who was thought to have been on the VP short list and who was apparently a big hit at the DNC – “throwing water” on Messiah’s health care plan. I enjoyed it more than reading about Kooky Ron Paul:

LevStrauss on July 19, 2009 at 9:48 PM

That misses the primary lesson the GOP should have learned from the 2008 elections. Having the hearts and minds of the country club Republicans isn’t enough. John McCain had that vote locked up and found that he needed the social and fiscal conservatives he hates with a passion. Paul peeled away the truly insane but couldn’t get traction with voters NOT living in their mom’s basement after graduating from high school.

Bottom line, Palin is smart to add to her base by not ignoring the John McCain type of Republican.

Wow. So much nutiness, in just the 3 excerped paragraphs;

“As for soon-to-be departing Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, Paul dismisses her supporters as ‘more establishment, conventional Country-Club type of Republicans.’

No, Ron, the establishment types are the cowardly “un-named McCain staffers” and “insiders” who rip her up (without attribution) in hatchet-job articles.

Again, the mythical young voter. Rarely seen, they’ve never been a decisive component in a political victory. And, talking to a 15-18 year old about the federal reserve? Sheesh! 15-18 year olds want to know about cheap gas, jobs, and college funding.

Worse still, he adds, Palinites are partisans: ‘If Obama was the only one who was guilty, they would be on his case all the time, but there is a lot of partisanship and I am probably less partisan and therefore she is going to appeal to partisan Republicans better.’”

Gibberish. If Obama is partisan, we should not be? He probably means what so called “moderate” republicans mean by bi-partisan ship; “I surrender!”

I feel pretty certain I would have known if she came to my state. Last time she was here was during the election.

Will she be doing fundraisers? Sure. From what I understand, that was considered a main benefit of her resigning. But does that at all mean she’s been embraced by the elites of the party?

Come on, Terry. Do you actually believe she has been? As it is, her current fundraising is composed primarily of those giving less than $200. Maybe this will change, but everything I read tells me otherwise. Regular people like her because they think she’s just like them. “County club” Republicans known she isn’t and are more likely to focus on her negatives.

They’ll use anyone they think is scary, or who has made any kind of mis-step.
