On my desk: Culture of Corruption

posted at 2:41 pm on July 19, 2009 by Ed Morrissey

Ever feel like you can’t keep track of all the shady characters in the Barack Obama without a scorecard? Consider that problem resolved, courtesy of the boss. Michelle Malkin gives readers a great read — and a handy reference guide — in Culture of Corruption: Obama and His Team of Tax Cheats, Crooks, and Cronies. As David Freddoso’s The Case Against Barack Obama outlined Obama’s shady political connections and provided a history for American voters that the media mostly refused to cover, Michelle’s book gives readers the run-down on the team Obama has assembled to bring Hope and Change to the US — but whose track records indicate that we can expect Chicago-sur-le-Potomac instead.

Culture of Corruption will go on sale on July 27th, but you can place your orders now through Amazon and have it on the first day of release.

Check out the latest addition to the Obamao administration of corruption. Look at his history. Do you see a pattern?

Just ordered 100 copies for my employees, about 20 of which will be once again offended by my “plantation” style of management. Which will, of course, provide me the opportunity to explain that quite often a “wise” Filipina woman will write a better book than most white men (like me) could do.

Can’t wait for Michelle to join Levin and Beck on the NYT Best Seller list… and the cold shudder it will send down the spines of the Liberatti.

the very least you can do is when in a Barnes and Noble, etc. is take books like these and put them in front of all the positive books on obama. that’s what i do every now and then.

It’s called “Rubbing it in!” What better revenge than to have a liberal, communist-supporting rag like the NYT have to report that a conservative best-seller is at the top of their own list!

rmgraha on July 19, 2009 at 7:04 PM

I’ll read this while waiting for the Michelle Obama expose’. You just know that crooked woman has some enormous skeletons in her closet (probably hiding behind her giant clown shoes). I’m getting sick of the MSM myth about how she was a “brilliant” lawyer who gave up a lucrative career to take a “public service” job. The woman is a total fraud who, after not cutting it as a lawyer, was given a cushy political patronage job because of her Senator husband. Michelle Obama is almost as big a phony as her husband, and it’s time the public knew the truth.

SHARPTOOTH on July 19, 2009 at 7:04 PM

Going to order Michelle’s new book now.

BTW, to the above commenter about “Cons always try to trash the NY Times,” it PTTHO at the Times that the sales numbers forces them to list any conservative’s book or any book supporting taking the fight to the enemy as a best seller. Want to be angry? Read their review of Marcus Luttrell’s Lone Survivor. Here’s the text of my review of that review:

On August 9, 2007, Motoko Rich (no apparent relationship to the Frank Rich) wrote a book review about Marcus Luttrell’s Lone Survivor as it was then number one on the New York Times bestsellers’ list. In her review, Ms. Rich wrote some stunning things:

* Yet backed by strong support from military blogs and right-wing pundits like Michelle Malkin…

* Mr. Luttrell’s story, involving a failed mission to capture or kill a Taliban leader in the mountains of Afghanistan, is unusually dramatic…

* Along with the tragic story about how Mr. Luttrell lost his comrades, the book is spiked with unabashed braggadocio and patriotism, as well as several polemical passages lashing out at the “liberal media” for its role in sustaining military rules of engagement that prevent soldiers from killing unarmed civilians who may also be scouts or informers for terrorists…

* Mr. Luttrell said he would occasionally nudge Mr. Robinson toward accuracy…

* Mr. Robinson said he eventually got to be a better mimic…

Perhaps Ms. Rich had never actually read Lone Survivor for she failed to describe the actions on June 28, 2005, of Lieutenant Murphy, hell; she did not even mention his name. Surely, she knew that he had been nominated for the Medal of Honor and all three of his comrades (Luttrell, ST2 Matthew G. Axelson, and GM2 Danny P. Dietz) (also see this) had previously been awarded the Navy Cross.

Yet, most stunning of all, two months later the Times silently let a book review stand as their sole opinion of him for ten days, while every other major New York metropolitan area based newspaper immediately featured Lieutenant Murphy and wrote about him in glowing terms.

While I don’t know the man and it me costs $23 a month, I care enough not to endanger my garbageman with Times’ toxins.

dcwvu on July 19, 2009 at 6:33 PM

No one suggests that the NY Times is insignificant. To the contrary, it can still set the agenda, to some degree, for the network newscasts on the “old” big 3 networks.

What has been proven (proven, in the sense of demonstrated with supporting facts; not proven like your side claims that certain things are proven) is that the news and reviews in the NY times are permeated with bias, and an editorial slant.

As for this:

Mann Coulter does this too.

Was this a typing mistake, or are you one of these reprehensible scum that puts forth the idea that Ann is not a woman?

Yeah, kinda like the MSM’s sports polls, especially for football.

Perhaps we Conservatives are quite happy with the AP when our team is in the top 10? Or is it like people who see the big fireworks display in Washington every July 4…maybe they can’t stand the government but they do love the sparkly things going BOOM!!!

Soon we’ll be drinking beer and cheering on people we don’t even know on the ol’ gridiron and all will be well with the world.

This excerpt was sent to me today:

Logic 101

An interesting letter in the Australian Shooter Magazine this week,
which I quote: “If you consider that there has been an average of
160,000 troops in the Iraq Theater of operations during the past 22
months, and a total of 2112 deaths, that gives a firearm death rate of
60 per 100,000 soldiers.

The firearm death rate in Washington, DC is 80.6 per 100,000 for the
same period. That means you are about 25 per cent more likely to be
shot and killed in the US capital, which has some of the strictest
gun control laws in the US , than you are in Iraq.

Conclusion: The US should pull out of Washington.

Bush? Cheney? What did we NOT know about these people? Minor school records to minor surgical procedures.

I got called fringe for even bringing up the topic that Obummer has supplied no birth certificate.
Has he or hasn`t he?
If someone in here knows, please let ME know . . . .

Well, in my opinion, they “think” this because they have forced themselves to think this. In order to be able to say, that their shall we say not the prettiest friends are “gorgeous,” they (these people we speak of), convince themselves that Michelle Obama is gorgeous, Joy Behar is classic beauty, and Carrie Bradshaw is just fabulous.

So far as I know, there’s no discretion in the list. And that’s all it is–a list based on book sales. No other media outlet publishes such a list, so the NYT is really the only game in town for compiling these sales figures.

I am still finishing Catastrophy and may put it down. The superiorty of this book lies in its nonfictional aspect. Dick Morris has a great deal of talent but anyone’s attempt at prognostication rides off with a high likelihood of error, an aspect of risk for the reader who trusts the author, and a real temptation for bombast and hyperbole. The real problem is that my hedge funds for shorting the market, the dollar and T bills are in the doldrums. Luckily, I didn’t even think about cash in the matress or gold. If nothing he is predicting ever breaks, (Like the Condi/Hillary contest he apparently predicted) I shall be tempted to think of Mr. Morris as a huckster. You have to watch your predictions..

Its books like these that define a President. If Mrs. Malkin’s book becomes popular Obama could end up being seen as a Mr. Corrupt. Of course all this would matter less had he not specifically campaigned on a ‘cleaning up politics’ ticket.

Question: has he made bad decisions in his picks for the administration, or is he essentially corrupt?

Just ordered 5! It will be great reading on my 14-hour flight back to the Middle East in a couple weeks. I did Levin’s book last time….simply amazing insight!

Plan to buy mine at B&N. I love the smell of liberal heads exploding in the morning.

When I am finish reading it, it will go on the coffee table for the benefit of my liberal friends.

You rock Michelle.

The title is an excellent choice

The level of political-industrial-journalistic disgrace has begun to resemble Rome in decline.

People have to be made aware that the ratio of honour to dishonour is shifting. There have always been crooks. It is becoming difficult to locate the honest man in the crowd. For this we are in great trouble

Empires decline when the ratio reverses. The good and the bad are the ends of the spectrum but when the bad outweigh the good, the weak middle caves. Eternal vigilance means we must face our enemy to defeat it

Perhaps I’m getting too cynical — following politics and aging both have a way of doing that to you –, but I believe I’ve already foreseen the Times‘ review:

“Air head writes book. Comes with crayons.”

I don’t think the middle is weak. In fact, what I think will save this nation from the excesses of the political class and the looting that we’ve seen going on since the filthy liar took office is the middle standing up and telling the crooks in DC to back off. It is my hope that it comes with a “throw the bums out” mentality for the 2010 elections where any incumbent of either party is scrambling to re-establish their credibility with the voters and not simply paying lip service to caring about their constituents.

Question: has he made bad decisions in his picks for the administration, or is he essentially corrupt?

Answer: Yes.

So glad Michelle has written this. She is an actual journalist and cannot be written off by the Left as some paid RNC troll. I plan to visit my local lefty bookstore and ask for it. This is one of my favorite activities.

FYI, my husband was a big Obama supporter but he is nearly apoplectic about all the Chicago hoods and corrupt Clinton retreads that have come in to his Administration. Of all the things he thought Obama would really “change”, the culture of Washington was the biggest and most important to him. It’s been a pretty sad sight watching the scales fall from his eyes.

Obama himself has picked very few of the people in his Administration, because he hasn’t been around long enough to know most of these people. Valerie Jarrett, Pete Rouse, Rahm Emanuel, and David Axelrod are just about the only ones he knew personally. So it’s Rahm or someone else with a longer track record doing the picking of all these other crooks and commies. Rahm has a vast network from his years in the Clinton White House and the House of Representatives.

This is the reason I often refer to it as the Emanuel Administration. Barack Obama is a Charlie McCarthy figure, a ventriloquist’s dummy. Rahm is the one actually running the country.

Explaining his election is easy; 1 part media in the tank, 1 part GOP running a backstabbing old fart who ran a joke of a campaign at best, or at worst, threw the election. I maintain he didn’t have to throw it; he sucked so bad there was no way he was ever going to win. But, there’s your President Wet Ear Rookie. Imagine going to the Super Bowl with the Colts, and instead of Peyton Manning, you send out the 5′1 inch towel boy as your quarterback. We gave it away.

Culture of Corruption will go on sale on July 27th, but you can place your orders now through Amazon and have it on the first day of release.

Pre-orderd 5 copies this morning from Amazon. I sent copies to various family members residing in Texas, Washington state, Wyoming, etceteras. In order to DO this, I had to complete 5 separate orders (a different order for each address that I was shipping to).

My collie says:

Someone needs to tell Amazon what a “pain in the arse” this is — and how POORLY written their software is.

Good to see Michelle writing books again. She always does a great job of researching her topic, and I like her writing style WAY better than Ann Coulter’s.
