I think she deliberately tries to sabotoge the threads, she may be a liberal loon, but I think her goal is to disrupt the discussion, not to share her misguided opinions. I’m convinced that she does hit and run comments to avoid defended her craziness and I believe she zips around to multiple sites to spew.

However, Colombia will not do a thing against Venezuela, this Honduran situation is not their fight and they have a commitment against the FARC.

elduende on July 19, 2009 at 12:56 AM

I hope Columbia hasn’t entirely abandoned Honduras. They’re both allies of ours, (historically, at least). If Columbia can’t get up off their asses enough to at least give Chavez with some doubt, I’d be very disappointed.

Obama may not expect anything from Columbia, he’s probably directed them to stay out of it, but Obama’s term is finite and when he’s gone, if Honduras has succumbed to tyranny because of Columbia’s inaction, they may have a price to pay. But that’s just me…. but the next president, which will be conservative, may feel likewise.

I hope I’m not feeding the troll here, as my intent is only to find something positive in her redundant posts. I think that her futile posts are a useful reminder of the narrow thought process that 52% of Americans have. I try to read her posts with a sense of pity. I also remain optimistic that she will someday read and understand The Constitution of the United States of America. I believe we should appreciate Annie and the other trolls as an opportunity to understand the enemy. I also believe that Annie should work on her spelling.

The Murtha money trail is far from fully explored …Taxpayers should press the question of what all this has to do with Mr. Murtha (who has also used his gavel to create a luxury supermart of defense contractors in his Pennsylvania district).

Beyond the criminal investigation, a full-scale ethics inquiry should be pressed by House Democrats and Speaker Nancy Pelosi. If not, the Murtha money trail could lead them back to the minority.

There are no counterweights to Venezuela, not even Colombia. The only thing Colombia can do is dissuade Venezuela from an outright invasion of Colombia. They can’t even stop Venezuela from hosting clandestine FARC bases on Venezuelan territory nor stop Chavez from providing arms to the rebels.

The US is the only nation that has a moral duty to help Honduras. Everyone in Latin America knows this. When a nation like Colombia, that is dependent on US aid to begin with, sees the hegemon in the region shirking its duty, and since Obama has been in power, actively in cahoots with our adversaries, then I’d be surprised to find anybody willing to lift a finger for Honduras.

We’ll see what happens…tmmw is going to be an interesting day in Tegucigalpa.

Yeah, it was a shame that Reagan had Alzheimer’s so late
in life. Too bad current president shows signs so early in his life. What is he, in his forties?? Muddles through everything, can’t get facts straight worth a damn, hell, can’t even remember where he met his wife. When he makes a famous proclamation, turns around and dismisses it, sometimes in same statement. Yeah, he’s all there mentally.

Someone put something in the NY Times water ?

They are also running a story that the DREAD CIA ASASSINATION PROGRAM never even went forward. No one was even targeted.

That its much to do about nothing.

William Amos on July 19, 2009 at 1:52 AM

I am second to none in my love for Reagan, but the biggest mistake he made was not picking a true conservative as his running mate. The unintended consequences of picking George H.W. Bush were made all too apparent in every presidential election since 1988:

1. Bush was never a Reaganite and did not govern as a conservative. Breaking his “no new taxes” pledge proved that his instincts and philosophy were the same as when he called Reagan’s fiscal policy “voodoo economics” ten years earlier. A conservative heir to Reagan would not have raised taxes and the 1992 re-election environment would have been quite different.

2. If Bush had not been the incumbent in 1992, Ross Perot would not have run as a third party candidate fueled by his grudge against Bush. Without Ross Perot and Bush’s other baggage, a conservative Republican incumbent likely would have run much stronger against a weak Democrat field.

3. During the 1992 campaign, Clinton’s team immediately began to revise recent history, shamelessly pretending that the 1980s economy was the worst since the Great Depression. Bush did not defend Reagan’s record because he did not agree with it and the lies became the conventional wisdom. With a strong conservative opponent in 1992, the historical record would have been defended properly and Clinton might never have been elected.

4. Without Presidents Bush the elder and Clinton, David Souter would not have been on the Supreme Court, nor would Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Stephen Breyer. The Court would likely have had a clear conservative majority independent of Justice Kennedy’s whims.

5. A like-minded successor to Reagan would have staffed his administration with more conservatives than Bush did — perpetuating a farm system to grow the conservative movement for election cycles to come. Instead, we’ve been stuck with compromise choices like Bob Dole, George W. Bush, John McCain and Mitt Romney who support big government solutions antithetical to conservatism.

They can’t even stop Venezuela from hosting clandestine FARC bases on Venezuelan territory nor stop Chavez from providing arms to the rebels.

elduende on July 19, 2009 at 1:46 AM

I don’t know anything about their tactical considerations, but what if some significant portion of Valenzuela’s military was in the process of invading Honduras? Might that change the calculus and give Columbia an opening against Venezuela/FARC? Or is it simply a matter of their not being able to locate the FARC bases? Could Columbia use the opportunity to weaken FARC in other ways, making it easier for them to operate against them in the future, for example, by taking out the Chavez regime that is supporting FARC? If Chavez and his regime were gone, it’s replacement may not ally itself with FARC. Other Chavez allies may also fall.

If Columbia is prepared for this, they may be able to take advantage of the situation in the event that Venezuela moves on Honduras. This fact alone may stay Chavez’s hand, it seems to me.

Well what some certain presidents would have done … cough, cough… is that they would have sent a carrier down there and parked it off the coast of Honduras for a while. Right now, though, the responsibility of resolving this conundrum is largely up to Honduras, Venezuela, and Columbia. Honestly, I have almost NO knowledge of the political considerations going on down there so I’m hoping for the best while not ruling out the worst.

By the way, I think AnninCA has been hitting the sauce, or else she is witless altogether. She’s sort of slurring her typing.

I do commend her. Hardly anyone else has dared to challenge this site. No matter how illogical her arguments,
she does keep pace (sometimes all day, when I’ve left for hours and hours and she’s still here. Almost amazing.)

But, I get the impression that all she really cares about is some government assistance to cover her health issues.
That’s what she wails about the most. Does she have major health issues that she can no longer afford?? What gives?

I do suspect another motive behind her endorsement of
Obamacare. She’ll be at work, and still have the time to
post her opinions. What sort of job is this?? Does she own the place, and cares more about what she can obtain from the promises of the government??? WTF???

When I went on Crenshaw Blvd today (South Central LA) to get my hair cut, there were some white persons spreading out some banners on some grass in the area. (I only mentioned that they were white to stress why they caught my attention. There aren’t many white persons, not-cops in the area.)

I read the banner but they were pretty cryptic. So I asked one of the women what the banners meant and she whipped out this newspaper that had some other lofty-sounding but meaningless statement on the front and ‘Communist Party USA’ at the bottom. “Communist Party USA?” I said. “No thanks.” And I walked away while she was trying to explain. Before I got out of earshot I turned and said “I fought you guys for twenty years. Why would I join you?” She didn’t appear to hear.

What I wish I had said: “One of yours is in the White House now. You can stop trying to gain converts–especially around here.”

It could have been Gerald Ford as VP. Even Rumsfeld got a vote for VP in 1980 at the convetion.

Vice-presidential nomination

Reagan initially negotiated with Gerald Ford to be his running mate; when the complex plan fell through (Ford reportedly insisted Henry Kissinger and Alan Greenspan be offered cabinet positions), Reagan chose Bush as the Republican vice presidential candidate.

Vice Presidential tally[3]:

Former CIA Director George H. W. Bush of Texas – 1,832 (93.33%)
Senator Jesse Helms of North Carolina – 54 (2.75%)
Congressman Jack Kemp of New York – 42 (2.14%)
Congressman Phil Crane of Illinois – 23 (1.17%)
Governor James R. Thompson of Illinois – 5 (0.26%)
Congressman John M. Ashbrook of Ohio – 1 (0.05%)
Senate Minority Leader Howard Baker of Tennessee – 1 (0.05)

There will be no significant portion of Venezuela’s armed forces invading Honduras.

That said, there has already been an invasion of Honduras by Chavez-backed thugs from Venezuela’s Bolivarian Alliance for the People of Our America…Alianza Bolivariana para los Pueblos de Nuestra América. And more are to be introduced into Honduras if the Chavez plan gets rolling.

Think ACORN with molotov cocktails and guns.

Columbia could weaken FARC…if only the press would accept the documentation that Columbia has captured/retrieved from FARC computers…along with the most recent info from Zelaya’s computers. But, the current official meme is that Zelaya was illegally removed from office…and Washington seems to be a major proponent of this lie.

Columbia needs a free trade agreement withthe US…and Obama may/will hold this hostage unless Columbia gets on board with the lie that Zelaya was illegally removed from office.

As for taking out Chavez. When a Venezuelan newspaper ran an article this past week, to include an interview with Hillary, they were attacked by Chavez…and the usual thugs showed up at their door. Chavez owns Venezuela, and has a large segment of his population indebted to him as he is providing for all their needs and wants from the pockets of every business he nationalizes and every newspaper he shuts down…and anything that looks like a US connection is heralded as the evil Americans meddling in peace loving Venezuela’s business.

If we had a White House more concerned with doing what is right than seeking approval from thugs, things could easily be a lot different. But Obama loves Chavez and all the so-called progressive leaders in Latin America…the “authentic” voice of the Latin American people a lot more than he would entertain taking a stand on the Founder’s Principles.

He is one of them, make no mistake about that.

So, any Latin American nation, especially after Zelaya was tossed out for violating his own nation’s Constitution, knows full well that the US is not going to back them up unless they have a “progressive” leader and Leftist policies.

Reagan would be appalled and angered were he alive today.

Had a very small Communist demonstration at the local university a few weeks ago. Most on campus never heard about it except for a small mention in the campus paper. A few of their banners referenced President Bush. He’s not the President anymore, is he?

coldwarrior on July 19, 2009 at 2:14 AM

“Even Rumsfeld got a vote for VP in 1980 at the convetion.”

HOW AWESOME would that have been?!

Buckaroo on July 19, 2009 at 2:15 AM

Im sure the Communists still believe Reagan is President. Its not like they arent living in the past.

Venezuela can’t “invade” Honduras in a conventional sense. The Venezuelan military has no projection capability. They have always been and for the foresseable future will remain an internal security focused force. They were built that way. Although Chavez is working to change that getting there is going to take time and money (which is now scare thanks to the cheap oil).

To get a sense of how bad the Venezuelan military is just think that Chavez lost a lot of credibility when he threatend war with Colombia in March of last year and couldn’t muster a credible threat against a neighbor he shares a contigous and porous border with.

I’m pretty sure Colombia knows where these bases are located they just can’t hit them without condemnation from all the moral busybodies. Just think what Obama and Pelosi would do if Colombia bombed FARC bases in Venezuela tmmw?

The danger from Chavez for Honduras comes from irregular Venezuelan, Nicaraguan, and Cuban forces. Guerrillas, saboteurs, community activists, and their money can be used to bribe Honduran politicians and military officers.

I hear the Honduran military has intelligence that a Venezuelan Navy captain is going to be leading the efforts to destabilize and collapse the Honduran government.

hang on there’s a ton of news over there tonite…

We don’t get commies on the campus out here, we get the uhmm….think it’s called the “World Socialist Party” or something. Haven’t seen them around lately, but they were entertaining.

Rightwingguy on July 19, 2009 at 2:17 AM

Even time I have faith in the MSM they let me down. Time magazine is now stating that Zacarias Moussaoui deserves a retrial because his conviciton was “Unjust”.

We all love a Don Quixote.

I love it!!! And I am laughing. Of course it’s only

Imagine that, ya’ll are talkin’ to the future.

I wish you’d comment more often, (if you have the time). I always appreciate your opinions.

Congratulations to Allah for having the first Quote of the Day that he wasn’t told his opinion was stupid or that he is a plagiarist.

I love Ronald Reagan.

I’ve stopped imagining. All of my scariest thoughts have come true since Jan. 20th.

I was flying with a friend from Guam to George Bush International and I tried to convince him that we would be flying into the future. He was a stick-in-the-mud and didn’t believe it.

Only 1281 days until a new President is sworn in….or sooner, depending.

Yep, evah! During Iran-Contra I remember a President who spoke directly to us and clearly explained a complicated situation. I heard him accept responsibility. I don’t remember a man who claimed perfection and then constantly lied, shifted blame, or disgraced America. I remember a man who loved America, understood the importance of freedom for ALL people, and tried consistently to take this Nation on an amazing journey to be the best it could be in this imperfect world. I miss him.

I’ve actually overheard conversations along the lines of that sun rises in the east unless you go west far enough…similar to that scene from City Slickers…and this from federal government officials.

coldwarrior on July 19, 2009 at 2:29 AM

Maybe Hillary will see the light and write another book…about her experiences in the Obama Administration?

It takes a Village Idiot is the tentative title.

The ironic thing is that I was thinking Hillary as president would have been the worse of the two choices the Dem’s had. Silly me.

Another thing I like about him is that he had so many witty, intelligent, and funny quotes. I honestly can’t think of any other president before or since who had his ability for conversation.
