Can we put on a full court press for the early/timely release of the midyear budget numbers??? Is that info not the property and data belonging to the citizens of the USA? We should demand the NOW release of the data. He has NO right to squelch such information. Release it NOW, get it all over the congress, before they go on their vacations. Release it now.

I wonder what kind of payoff Obama gave the AMA for their shilling. The AMA does not represent the majority of health care providers and they certainly don't represent the public.

Things that me make me run out to the shop to check the status of my ammo lockers.

This administration isn’t used to being told “NO” and have been depending on Ogabe’s popularity numbers to get polices rammed through; they will get desperate as things unravel.

The Obama Administration will nto release budget data until next month....after Congress goes into summer recess.

Originally scheduled for mid-July relase, the most transparent Administration ever has postponed the release of mid-year budget info to the public.

A Washington Post-ABC News survey released Monday shows approval of Obama's handling of health-care reform slipping below 50 percent for the first time. The poll also found support eroding on how Obama is dealing with other issues that are important to Americans right now - the economy, unemployment and the swelling budget deficit.

The Democratic-controlled Congress is reeling from last week's testimony by the head of the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office, Douglas Elmendorf, that the main health care proposals Congress is considering would not reduce costs - as Obama has insisted - but "significantly expand" the federal financial responsibility for health care.

"Experience should teach us to be most on our guard to protect liberty when the Government's purposes are beneficent. Men born to freedom are naturally alert to repel invasion of their liberty by evilminded rulers. The greatest dangers to liberty lurk in insidious encroachment by men of zeal, well meaning but without understanding."
— Justice Louis D. Brandeis dissenting,Olmstead v. United States

50% of all health care dollars now is spent by Government.
We need Health care reform alright- we need to get government out of the business of health care. This counseling to seniors about end of life health care is scary stuff. What will we tell them "your time is up and we cannot afford you anymore pops" This will slide down to euthanasia or the equivalent of it by withholding medical care. An alternative of assisted suicide for the old will be offered.
When 85% are happy with their health insurance, I hope it is political suicide what Democrats are doing. Health Care reform dose need to happen but unlike the liberals jump over the cliff standard solutions, some simple changes would make a big difference. True Health care reform needs to be done, not socializing and destroying it. No single payer ever!
Good health care reform should include-
Choice- We should have freedom to choose among many insurance plans, not just what we are offered by our employer. This way we could choose options and pay different amounts depending on our needs. This would cause competition among insurance companies and lower costs.
Portability- When we move between jobs or states, we should be able to take our insurance with us.
Unemployment protection- part of the insurance should have provision to keep our insurance between jobs and not be so expensive we have to drop it or eat. If we are unemployed so long that it stops then we should be able to start it up again with out waiting period when we find a new job or other income to pay for it.
Retirement provision- take it to our later years when we retire and eliminate Medicare.
Modernization- computerized medical record that we own not the government or insurance companies.
We already pay for those who don't pay for medical services. Hospitals cannot refuse anyone regardless or ability to pay. This needs some reform and a system to help the truly needy, while not causing a rush to free health care, with a reimbursement system run by private insurance.

ericdijon on July 19, 2009 at 9:56 PM

Well, at a family reunion you really don't expect all the relatives to get along, do you? :-)

The main point is that the Right has been too accommodating over the past two decades. Our "leadership" (if you can call it that) has gone out of their way to reach across the aisle, and even when all they got was a chewed off hand or forearm, they still persist in trying to be "nice."

Looking back at Bob Taft ("Mr. Republican" of the early Cold War years) and Barry Goldwater (Mr. Conservative of the same period) both knew where they stood, and their supporters knew precisely where they stood as well.

The most basic fundamentals that enabled this Nation to be born, to grow, to thrive, have been watered down over the past two decades to such an extent that, well, you've heard it, we at times were no more than Democrat Lite.

Now, that the Dems hold all the cards in this game, they can now dictate terms. The Dems chose our candidate in the last Presidential election...seriously. He was "nice" even though they hated him...and his running mate, whom they still hate with a passion. He reached across the aisle so many times it is hard to believe he has either hand anymore.

So, unless we can call it as we see it, and be unafraid in doing so, and use those basic fundamentals to bolster our stand, and demand our "leadership" do the same...well, we might as well give them the entire ballpark, and let them make the rules as they see fit.

Any GOP member of Congress who crosses the aisle now, and aids the Dems in destroying our economy, our way of life, we should make sure they carry the mark of Cain and never cast another vote for them...ever.

We are better, we can do better, and we should not be afraid to do so.

Well, at a family reunion you really don’t expect all the relatives to get along, do you? :-)

The main point is that the Right has been too accommodating over the past two decades. Our “leadership” (if you can call it that) has gone out of their way to reach across the aisle, and even when all they got was a chewed off hand or forearm, they still persist in trying to be “nice.”

Looking back at Bob Taft (”Mr. Republican” of the early Cold War years) and Barry Goldwater (Mr. Conservative of the same period) both knew where they stood, and their supporters knew precisely where they stood as well.

The most basic fundamentals that enabled this Nation to be born, to grow, to thrive, have been watered down over the past two decades to such an extent that, well, you’ve heard it, we at times were no more than Democrat Lite.

Now, that the Dems hold all the cards in this game, they can now dictate terms. The Dems chose our candidate in the last Presidential election…seriously. He was “nice” even though they hated him…and his running mate, whom they still hate with a passion. He reached across the aisle so many times it is hard to believe he has either hand anymore.

So, unless we can call it as we see it, and be unafraid in doing so, and use those basic fundamentals to bolster our stand, and demand our “leadership” do the same…well, we might as well give them the entire ballpark, and let them make the rules as they see fit.

Any GOP member of Congress who crosses the aisle now, and aids the Dems in destroying our economy, our way of life, we should make sure they carry the mark of Cain and never cast another vote for them…ever.

We are better, we can do better, and we should not be afraid to do so.

The overwhelming amount of money from the stimulus that has been released already has not gone to the poorest states nor the hardest hit states...

And, Obama has taken his "let's love the stimulus" tour only to states that overwhelmingly voted for him...the others? Not so much.

If Obama's ongoing plan is to parcel out stimulus funds primarily to loyal states and constituencies, what should one believe Obama will do with doling out his new, improved, hopey, changey, Health Care dollars?

Ya think that a new hospital in a solidly Right district will get funding? Or better access to health care? Religious and charitable medical care facilities might as well start vacating the premises, and laying off their staffs. Being in competition with approved government facilities will drive them under sooner rather than later.

This Obamacare package, that a few in Congress are now only taking a second look at, much to the consternation of Obama, in a manner as the Stimulus is nothing else than a wholesale redistribution of wealth...from those that have to those that voted for him. There are a like number in Congress who want to add more...a lot more...to the costs of Obamacare and a lot of other programs that are being snuck into the Bill, to include making sure that the "rich" will pay through the nose for all the Obamatrons.

It is a sham. It will burden our children and grandchildren for decades, and may, in all likelihood, destroy our economy to such an extent that we will be a Third World economy, dependent on the good graces of China, India, the Euros and Russia to maintain anything resembling a viable lifestyle and economy.

Obama cannot blame Bush for any of this...he owns it, 100%.

This is not the Change even most of those who voted for this blockhead expected. Or is it? If it is, then those who voted for Obama are part and parcel to the downfall of America. And those who voted for the Stimulus and may vote for Obamacare are enemies of the state.

Perhaps we should make this clear to any and all we know who are sporting an Obama bumper sticker or were so thrilled that they voted for Obama. They may be family members, they may be long time acquaintances or co-workers...but they are no friends of the United States of America. Nor should they be accepted as friends by any who value who we are, and the Nation we have built over generations of hard work and devotion to liberty.

the sheer volume of tests and treatments they prescribe

...is done as a self-protection by doctors against frivolous malpractice suits. Their liability insurance is off the wall.

Health care costs will go down if tort reform is legislated. (But I won't hold my breath, given that trial lawyers own our legislators, and too many legislators are lawyers.

We also need to move from a system that rewards doctors for the sheer volume of tests and treatments they prescribe to one that rewards quality and positive outcomes.

So let's punish them for that patient who did not have the expensive "unnecessary" CT-scan of the head for the simple headache on that patient, who was later discovered to have an early brain tumor. Not only will we unleash the lawyers on the doctors, we won't pay them, too.

Oh, but Obama will (gladly) sign a healthcare bill that will limit care:

For Kennedy and his co-author, Bob Shrum, have let the rationing cat out of the bag. And that’s a problem for President Obama and the Democrats. Make no mistake: Beyond all the other crippling problems with the Democrats’ health care proposal--its cost at a time of massive deficits, the tax increases it requires at a time of recession, its preference for government over the private sector and for central planning over free competition--the deepest vulnerability of Obamacare is that it (intentionally) puts us on a course towards government rationing of health care.

Here’s the key paragraph from Kennedy and Shrum:

We also need to move from a system that rewards doctors for the sheer volume of tests and treatments they prescribe to one that rewards quality and positive outcomes. For example, in Medicare today, 18 percent of patients discharged from a hospital are readmitted within 30 days--at a cost of more than $15 billion in 2005. Most of these readmissions are unnecessary, but we don't reward hospitals and doctors for preventing them. By changing that, we'll save billions of dollars while improving the quality of care for patients.
