Obama promises: I won’t sign any health-care bill that adds to the deficit
posted at 12:55 pm on July 18, 2009 by Allahpundit
That’s how the Times is spinning it, but read the fine print. What he actually says is he won’t sign any bill that adds to our deficits over the next decade. The One knows this is a sinkhole in the long run even if it isn’t in the short run — which, per the CBO, it almost certainly is. No worries, though: “I don’t believe that government can or should run health care,” he assures us, ignoring the fact that he once famously said he doesn’t want to run the auto companies … a month after he forced the chairman of GM into early retirement. No wonder some prominent Democrats now want to, um, run the auto companies.
Oh, and he’s still lying about letting you keep your current insurance if you like it, oblivious to the reality of what’ll happen to private insurers forced to compete with a program backed by the Treasury Department’s printing presses. But then, as he candidly says here, “I … don’t think insurance companies should have free reign to do as they please.” That’s Obamanomics in a nutshell. Make sure to read Betsy McCaughey’s rejoinder in today’s New York Post about the difference between your current health plan, the “qualified plan” you’ll be forced to choose under ObamaCare, and the penalties you’ll pay if you prefer not to “qualify.” Should be a fun presser on Wednesday night.
Update: Looking on the bright side, at least we know now what his next bald-faced revisionist lie about his record will be. How many months or years before he treats us to this: “But let me be clear. We have never denied that health-care reform might temporarily add to our deficits.”

After letting Pelosi & Co. write the stimulus, and now the same with healthcare and Cap&tax the same. No fingerprints on anything what the hell does this guy actually DO!

As others said there is a lot to be done in stopping this bill. Here is my thinking though even if worse case scenario this passes. This will take a long time to take effect. If it did pass, I think the outrage would render Obama completely lame for the rest of his term and this Congress would pay a massive price.
As uneducated as voters were in this last election, they also needed to learn the hard way what can happen when they vote on whim. I personally think the outrage over writing this garbage and bringing it to a vote is going to kill the Dems for a while. I seriously think this is their undoing.

They did. George W. has an undergraduate (bachelor’s) degree from Yale. He also has an MBA (Master of Business Administration) from Harvard.

I should add, I think the outrage if it were to pass would lead to this being repealed. I think the moderate dems got blasted from cap and trade they’re not going to vote for this unless they get a sense people support it. If we do anything right, we need to let everyone know what is in this.

Unfortunately, you’re mis-quoting. Starship Troopers (one of the top three books ever written, IMHO) did not say military veterans (or those in the military) were the only ones who could vote (actually, Heinlein called it ‘the right of franchise’). If you’ve actually read the book, active duty military did not have the right to vote. And it was not just military service, but any federation service, based on your qualifications. But the individual did not have the final say in what service they were in; that was based on federation needs and on the individual’s capabilities (this is a gross simplification — If you haven’t read the book, you don’t know what you’re missing!). Everyone had the right to earn the franchise, but you did have to earn it. TANSTAAFL (another great Heinlein phrase that I firmly believe in — and 53% of the American population does not).

Veritas Christo et Ecclesiae: Truth in Christ and the Church. Original motto of Harvard University.
Needless to say, somewhere in the last three centuries Harvard lost touch with its primary purpose, though the student body continues to include a healthy number of faithful Christians. The predominant view among most Harvardians these days, however, would be that truth is relative, and that there is no certain truth upon which to base one’s life. The idea that the pursuit of truth is for the sake of Christ and the church would considered an curious antique of a premodern (or pre-postmodern) age.

txmomof6 on July 18, 2009 at 5:07 PM

ted c on July 18, 2009 at 5:08 PM
Obama is going to ride Congress for all its worth. Those sycophants over there wrongly think he’s going to ride to their rescue and spend lots of dough in their weenie districts and help get them reelected.
Heck no. He’d sacrifice 100+ democratic congressmen and women just to get what he wants. He’s already shown that to be true. What matters is his agenda, first and foremost. If those fools don’t get reelected, who cares according to him–He Won! and he says as much.
Obama is the political equivalent of a frontal assault during the civil war. Get on line, advance and if you get mowed down, too bad, he’s still up there on his horse throwing those boys into the gap. Dems or Repubs, he could care less. He couldn’t give a gnats ass on whether those fools get reelected, because he’s President and he’ll be there for 4 years.
ted c on July 18, 2009 at 5:11 PM
The sooner that those fools in Congress wise up to this little bit of truth the sooner we could get back to common sense in this country.
ted c on July 18, 2009 at 5:13 PM
As much as Obama thinks he’s a divine being that rules the world, there’s other people that are more concerned with their political careers than they are with his visions of glory. I’m leaning towards optimism, only ever so slightly though.

It is not just a single bill to him. It is the epitome of what leftists have been striving for more than 40 years. Not to mention he wants to say to Hillary, I did what you couldn’t do. He campaigned on it before the economy melted down and is pushing it despite the meltdown. If he were reasonable, he would focus on the number one problem for Americans, the economy. Instead he twists the fear Americans have about the economy into an argument for something he wanted all along. Universal healthcare. You are assuming he is reasonable and not an idealogue.
